Catfish
02-01-22, 02:56 PM
@Jim: not WW2 related

@Aktungbby: not by Roselius, so not this building. The Boettcherstrasse is a beautiful part of the city though.. (b.t.w. Bremen, so not in Bad Sche.. :O:)
re Roselius though OT here:
"4 Million RM was raised by Heinz Puvogel shortly after Ludwig Roselius died but when questioned after World War II by IARA, investigators lied and turned a blind eye due to a coverup about U.S. multinational ITT Corporation owning 29% of Focke-Wulf and possible future class action payouts as the U.S. government failed to nationalize the ITT Corporation after Pearl Harbor."
You can't make some things up. Catch 22 has it all true.

Hint: it has "recently" (decades) been rededicated again from its second-original.. umm purpose.

@Exocet25fr: Not the "Niedersachsenstein".
Hint: it has a a bit of a connection to WW1, but not its main idea.

It is all in the eye of the beholder, and here beauty is in his eye ..

This is it, the colonial memorial in Bremen, built 1932, but already planned during WW1:

https://i.imgur.com/bROA1Cel.jpg

to remind of the glorious colonial past, and restart interest in teh colonies, something especially trade companies in Bremen had a strong interest in ("Where trade flows, the flag follows") after all was lost after WW1.

Artist Fritz Behn designed it, here are some other sculptures of him.
http://www.artnet.com/artists/fritz-behn/
He specialised on african deer and animals, usually shot it, made plaster stone castings of the dead and then transferred that into Bronze or whatever.

After critic over the colonial past rose, it was just declared to be an "anticolonial memorial", case closed :03:

Precisely! https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/picture.php?albumid=815&pictureid=12307 It has to be the most incongruous photo you've ever seen. In the background, Hiroshima's iconic "Atomic Dome" which marks Ground Zero of the first atomic bomb dropped in anger. Cruising along the dusty road in front, circa late 1946: a Kabaya candy company Hippo sound & samples truck.

One might be forgiven for thinking the ludicrous truck is some bizarre mutant spawned by nuclear radiation, but in actual fact sound trucks like this one really did promote Kabaya (translated company website here) caramels in those difficult post-war years... and still do today! Kaba" means Hippo in Japanese and "Kabaya" translates to Hippo Store, which explains the company's choice of mascot. They're also famed for introducing a weird hippo-crow to push their wares in a long-running series of Japanese TV commercial ads.

As for the sleek, Ferrari-red sound truck that now promotes Kabaya's candy, it's is as different from its dreary gray ancestor as can be, yet it speaks of Japan's nostalgia for a simpler time full of hope for a better, sweeter future. Modern versions of the 77 year-old puzzle tend to be molded... and red! (And that is an Aktungian a red-herring hint)Over to Catfish and well done:salute:NOTE: even my red herrings are red!:O:

Oops, did we have that already? I tried google image search and it did not bring up any solution .. so could it be you just know it :hmmm: :O:

Yes this is it, the "Kommandogeraet" for the FW 190 - installed BMW 801 engine.
"This complicated box, covered with wires, tubes, and fasteners, is an electro-mechanical computer that sets the fighter’s fuel mixture, propeller pitch, boost, and magneto timing all at once. The pilot simply puts the throttle at the desired setting and the Kommandogerät does the rest, getting the most out of the 190’s powerful radial engine."

https://www.heraldnet.com/life/kommandogert-the-complicated-box-that-was-revolutionary-for-flying/

The parts inside this machine..

https://i.imgur.com/kCqKSidl.png
https://i.imgur.com/vW0hA1Kl.png

"This was the forerunner of modern engine management systems. It controlled fuel mixture, propeller pitch, manifold pressure, ignition timing and supercharger speed switching. All without an electronic computer."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8lk5E-Lq-c

While it was a very sophisticated device there was one backlash: When the machine detected too much heat near the exhausts it would automatically shut down the engine, cutting fuel and ignition. A good idea if there really was a burning engine, but it sometimes (very seldom) did this 'just so'. Bad situation during approach for a landing, or flaring out..

Well done, over to you!:salute:

Catfish

I want to say Fw159 but I think that's wrong.
Then you're wrong, because you're right :D

Designed by Kurt Tank, the FW 159 it is.
Successor of the FW 56, now with retractable gear that lead to this new type's first accident when the gear wold not extract properly.

The Focke-Wulf company designed the aircraft as one of the four entries for the Rüstungsflugzeug IV ("Armed Aircraft IV") 1934 fighter competition.
"The second 159 prototype, the V2, had a reinforced undercarriage. The general flight characteristics were good but the rate of climb and rate of turn were unsatisfactory, and the aircraft suffered greater drag than its competitors in the contest, the Arado Ar 80, Heinkel He 112 and Messerschmitt Bf 109. The competition was won by the Bf 109."

I could have swore that would be wrong because I couldn't make out the step behind the spinner, but a parasol wing seened likely if it wasn't an engine pod.

EDIT: I also couldn't make out retractable main gear doors which made me look elswhere. It did look like there was a small bit of an iron cross showing.
