Rgr that:
During the Second World War the RAF took it over and it became an RAF command centre. RAF Bawtry did not have its own airfield but instead took advantage of RAF Bircotes, which was located literally next-door. Here the station based a number of communications aircraft.

You said you checked to see whether it's classed as a church and it isn't. It is part of a college but it's not the chapel. In that case I'd say it's a secular building, not ecclesiastical, correct?

Here's another hint.
I have already said that it's a similar production process to a samurai sword so it's metal. And it's a weapon and a tool which is anything from a screwdriver to a train. And it's a modern thing made with ancient techniques so it's not a relic/museum piece.

A damascus steel knife. A tool and a weapon.
Made by folding together two different kinds of steel, a softer kind to prevent shattering and a tougher one to keep an edge, and then hammering it until a blade is forged. Then just dipping into an etching solution to bring out the pattern.
A samurai sword, the Katana, is made in the same way by forging together two kinds of steel, the difference is that the Katana has a larger amount of folds.
