Ooomph. :o
Indeed, you have it. Was this soo easy? :haha:
Well it had six wheels and a four wheel drive (the four in the quest photo)

It was to set a new speed record for propaganda purposes in 1940, targeted at 750 km/h with the 44,5 litre DB 603 which had about 3500 horse power in its last stage, but due to the war it never made an official run. Some say it was never completed, but there (if only few) are photos allegedly showing it to run under own power.

Well done, and FAST! Over to you :salute:

It was the tires that gave it away. They looked like land speed wheels and the car popped out doing a search for land speed record cars.

Jimbuna

mapuc

My brain can't decide if this is a part of some mechanical equipment on a ship or on a train.

Markus

Buddahaid
06-22-21, 09:50 AM
Are those chains, running over those two rolls shown in the picture?

Yes although the construction details are vague. It's not a train, or part of a train.

Jimbuna

Not from a train-Then it must be an old Anchor winch

Markus

Buddahaid
06-22-21, 02:45 PM
Smaller than a two storey house?

Yes, smaller that a house.

Yes, something designed for use in a harbour.

No, not a winch.

Aktungbby

Swimming conveyor belt?

No but that comes pretty close.

Not a canal related device.

Aktungbby
06-22-21, 07:11 PM

Not a dredge either :hmmm::hmmm:

Correct but not German.

Catfish
06-23-21, 04:10 PM
To do with nets, is there even a military connection? :D

Buddahaid
06-23-21, 04:24 PM

Struggling to find any meaningful info on Italian net layers.

Buddahaid
06-24-21, 08:39 AM
It's not a net layer. It's an offensive construct related to nets.

Catfish
06-24-21, 08:46 AM
A net breaker/remover, to get into enemy harbours or ships to attack them?

Jimbuna
06-24-21, 08:52 AM

Buddahaid
06-24-21, 09:47 AM
Both are the right idea but wrong method.

Aktungbby

Buddahaid

Related to nets, but nothing to do with servicing or destroying them.

Clue: WWI with more than 400 built.

Catfish
06-24-21, 01:09 PM

Yes.

Catfish
06-24-21, 01:49 PM
A "barchino saltatore" :o
Never heard or saw this .. nice riddle.
Seems it is the
"Grillo (grasshopper), a torpedo-armed electric-powered punt with chain ‘tracks’ running around the hull. These allowed it to climb over the anti-submarine and anti-torpedo nets which were laid around the battleships.

Development of the first Barchino Saltatore (jumping punts) started in 1917. The craft was a small wooden boat of about eight tonnes, 16m (52ft) long and just 3.1m (10ft) across. It was generally not considered seaworthy due to its small size and slow speed but it was suitable for operations in sheltered waters such as harbors, which was the point. It had a four-man crew and carried two 450mm (17.7”) torpedoes on davits that could be swung out over the side of the boat to allow the torpedoes to be dropped into the water."

Hillman? I don't really think so but it does look like a product of the seventies.

The more I look at this the more I think it's some type of odd conversion but the stand out feature for me is the slotted window in the B-pillar.

Catfish
06-26-21, 02:59 PM
Not a Hillman.
It is a conversion, but built in a series. The B pillar is indeed a hint ..

https://i.postimg.cc/8c5SScNn/1974-Morris-Marina-Estate-19528638810.jpg (https://postimages.org/)
There were not so much english cars over here at the time, but enough to know the different models. Why do modern cars have to look like pumped-up plastic monstrosities on steroids. This Marina is a a refreshingly neat design.

Father of a friend had an Austin Maxi, the very prototype of a multi-purpose car and well advanced in its time, perfect rear loading ability due to the low luggage compartment, very good road handling, front drive, foldable rear seats and of course the hydrolastic suspension, and a five-gear box. Some buyers managed to ruin the engine because they wanted to reach top speed without knowing there was a fifth gear (no indicator scheme on the knob), no german car of the time had this :haha:
Of course this does not bode well of the distributors here, failing to explain the car properly..
This estate does not have the split b-pillar like the convertible, so understandable you did not recognize it instantly. :salute:

First I asked if he was part of the media-Yes
Then I asked if he was a host-yes
Then I asked if he was a host in(forgot the word)-No he's not a journalist.
Then I asked if he was a host in an entertainment program like wheel of fortune-No he's not a host in a gameshow.

So he's a host, but not in a gameshow and he's not a journalist.

I looked under "unmarried show hosts" and presto! I had studied Anderson Cooper(gay) for awhile... his hooded eyelids and sparse eyebrows are similar; but he's got sea-blue eyes to the OP's brown; and a perceptible crease in the glabella above the nose whereas the OP pic is smooth. I'll have something sneaky and European shortly, just so Moonlight doesn't gripe!:O:

Drake's Dial.

Aktungbby
06-30-21, 08:18 PM
Bingo! On display at some English Maritime Museum. Known as the Cole astronomical compendium dial created by famed instrument builder Humfrey Cole.Astronomical compendium for latitudes 0°-90° North. This oval-shaped instrument has five leaves held together by small brass pegs. Engraved on leaf Ia is an image of Juno, together with three peacocks and two mythical beasts. Leaf Ib contains a lunar volvelle with an aspectarium. On leaf IIa is a perpetual calendar and on IIb a table of latitudes. Leaf III is a universal equinoctial dial on which is the maker's signature: 'Humfray . Colle . made this . diall . anno . 1569'. Leaf IVa holds a compass and a simple theodolite and on leaf IVb is a table of ports used for determing the time of high tide according to the compass direction of the moon ('establishment of port'). The upper part of this leaf hinges back to reveal the underside of the compass. Leaf Va contains an instrument for finding times of high water. Engraved on leaf Vb is a picture of Jupiter standing on an eagle, surrounded by various creatures and decorations. Humfrey 'Humfrae' Cole (circa 1520-1591) was one of the finest makers of scientific instruments in England in the time of Queen Elizabeth I. This compendium is made up of a number of different scientific instruments and has many uses, such as, as a compass, a calendar and a geometric square, from which it is possible to calculate anything from high and low tides and the phases of the moon to the height of buildings. This dial is reputed to have belonged to Sir Francis Drake and was long known 'Drake's dial', though this legend lacks any supporting evidence (see NMM X2001.029, the letters relating to the provenance of the dial). It was presented to Greenwich Hospital by King William IV. For more information regarding this dial please refer to the OUP & NMM catalogue, 'Sundials at Greenwich'.
