My younger brother's first vehicle. I had a VW Golf (1, Diesel) and we swapped every other week. The Kreidler was loud, slow, and the gear shift was somewhat sluggish. And we both loved it. Good ol times.

Catfish
09-29-20, 06:06 AM
That is it, a development of the JU 287. German engineer Mr. Baade was tasked to further develop the older Ju into a new model he called the "Brunolf Baade Junkers EF-140" for "Entwicklungsflugzeug", the 'russian' "OKB-1 140" with two Mikulin-engines type AM-1 (2 x 3.300 kp).
The JU 287 with its negative arrowed wings and a similar weight already had a higher performance than the russian IL-28 und Tu-14 jet planes of the time. Travel speed with the original WK-1 engines was hundred miles faster, also its range would have been 500 kilometers longer. Tried-out top speed of the EF-140's predeccessor had been Mach 0,92, and flight beaviour was perfectly controllable up to this. The project was soon buried..

Then please accept my apologies but I've always thought there was a clear distinction between a church and a cathedral.
Here in the UK every town etc. has at least one church but protocol has always dictated that for somewhere to be a city, there must be a cathedral within its boundaries.
Not sure if that is still the case today though (Sunderland near me having recently been declared to be a city but doesn't have a cathedral).

Catfish
10-01-20, 04:49 AM
Congratulations, yes this is it :)
The DFS-346 - DFS for "Deutsche Forschungsanstalt für Segelflug" ~ "German Institute for Sailplane Flight".
The german experimental never flew with own propulsion, it was only tested as a sail plane. It was planned to add two Walther rocket drives, intended to reach Mach 2 with it. It turned out that the wings did not work well at those speeds (to say at least), whence some modifications..
Here (after the war) it is hanging under a russian B-29 that made an emergency landing in Russia and was not returned. It was repaired and used for such purposes. (OT They then copied the B-29 and created the TU-4, almost the same but with heavier armouring)
https://i.imgur.com/8A1mYxql.jpg
Here it is standing on its 'sled'
https://i.imgur.com/aihMNS7l.jpg
This was some of the russian modifications, it was hard to steer without the wing 'fences'. Later, a lot of russian planes had those fences on the wings to control the air flow, it was another solution than the negative arrowed wings of the JU 287 that had had a similar problem

It's use is not for leisure but I don't know when this particular gizmo was invented... in fairly modern times I should think.
CLUE: I truthfully answered 'no' to Jim's specific suggestion that it's an animal transporter. However.... although it isn't used as an animal transporter there are probably times when an animal is carried off in it. That should bust it wide open now :haha:

And the corresponding website claims it was installed in Britain, but the test track was localized in Massachusetts.
I'm glad no-one asked about the number of wheels, cause those inside the construction have to be taken into account.

I wonder, in the early age of moden industrial iron/steel forging metalurgy, which also prbably contributed to the 1912 Titanic disaster, how long those nearly 45 degree canted wheels could have held up in all temperatures on that contraption, rockin' and socken' on an elevated El track monorail? :hmmm::ping::ping:
