bracer
04-25-19, 03:40 PM
A motorbike?

Eichhörnchen
04-25-19, 04:55 PM
Is the upper part a 'spat' covering a wheel then?

Catfish
04-26-19, 01:08 AM
@bracer: A motorbike? Yes. But which one/who built it?

@Eichhörnchen: A spat? Never heard of this word other than from spitting :hmmm:
If you mean a kind of fender or mudguard, then yes ! And below it the wheel.

Hint 3: The man who built it was a german aviation pioneer who held several records before the war (WW1), if not related to motorbikes. One of the first holding a pilot's license, constructing own plane types if with varying results, forbidden to fly in the military in WW1 because being regarded as "too valuable", but teaching others tricks and how to become pilots, and flying prototypes for evaluation.
And completely forgotten..

Catfish
04-26-19, 07:36 AM
No.. he was by far not as famous as Lambert. He held a few records in flying, but this was easier to achieve at that time (1913). As said before the motorcycle came later, after the war, but before Ucrank's Vega 5.

Jimbuna

The 1913 Flying Merkel?

Catfish
04-26-19, 11:19 AM
@Aktungbby: Langfeld performed a looping in an Avro 503, right, but there had been already other german pilots who did that, close after Nesterov and Pégoud, mostly in 'Taube' monoplanes. But Langfeld is not the man we look for.
And there were dozens of german pilots getting world records in flying before the war, from longest flights, to highest, to speed. Seems this has somehow been xed out eh? :O:

@u crank: Yes, it was built in Germany.

@Jim I guess any plane of 1913 was much better aerodynamically (and maybe in anything else too) than Merkel :D

As said before the machine is a motorcycle, and it did not fly.. some say it did not drive too well either :hmmm:

Google (admittedly) is bringing it up as the Tropfen 1953 LMS :hmmm:

Catfish
04-27-19, 08:32 AM
^
@Jim well the link says Tropfen (or 'drop', for its aerodynamic form) 1953 (??), but the photo itself claims it to be from 1923, which it is. I heard some allied soldier found it after WW2 in a garage somewhere and took it with him.

Yes, that is it, built by Max Schueler (including the engine and all).
It was called the Tropfen (drop) Motorrad, and not much were built. When WW1 was over, Max Schueler wanted to fly but was forbidden by the Versailles treaty.

The photo with the LVG biplane on the photo with Schueler, Lorinser and a third pilot was taken at Netter Heide aerodrome.
He had just taken the plane from another abandoned aerodrome and flew it to his hangar, 'illegally'.

Schueler had thrown out the MG, ammunition and was able to carry two passengers, for leisure flights (and money). Soon after the control commission demanded the plane to be destroyed, so Schueler was looking for other opportunities..

His motorcycle was ok to drive, but the fairing (thanks Eichhörnchen) was always tattering and bumping against the frame, so it could be heard from quite a distance :03:.

Before the war, Schueler had held several german and international records, first with an AGO (Otto) biplane which he took up to 3500 meters, in 1913.

Over to you, Jim

Yes. Eddie's creation combined the elements of a Fender strat with the Les Paul sound. So he bought a cheap replacement Strat style body and added a Floyd Rose locking tremolo arm and a humbucking pickup from a Gibson ES-335. The rest is history. It doesn't look like much but with it Eddie changed the electric guitar world in a big way.

Rolling Stone's 100 greatest guitarists puts Eddie at #8. I would have him in the top 3.

Are the 'tracks' part of the drive train or engine? no answer. :hmmm:

by the looks of this cartoon car these so called tracks are neither part of the drive train or engine. Not even sure they could be considered tracks. More like left over plastic parts from another project the modeller glued on because he thought it looked cool, eye candy for kiddies when they watched the show.

http://i65.tinypic.com/23mlc0n.jpg

The Krupp Kugelpanzer

Very little information is available on this round, single-person armored vehicle, on display in the Kobinka Tank Musuem outside of Moscow. Kugelpanzer means "ball tank," and the one halfway-decent source of information online believes it to be a rolling reconnaissance vehicle captured in Manchuria in 1945 by the Russians, having been sent to Japan as part of a technology transfer with the Japanese.
