No to both. The device is so famous people make replicas of it.

DOES IT START A ROCKET MOTOR?

Part of Apollo 11 capsule control panel?

Well I was looking for the actual device name.http://thedsky.com/product/product-11/ (http://thedsky.com/product/product-11/) HE PICKED RIGHT I MERELY NAMED IT: DSKY.... MARCEL WINS!!:Kaleun_Thumbs_Up: THE 'RT' IN THE LEFT OF THE PHOTO GAVE IT AWAY: "RT": IE 'START' OR IN THIS THIS ''RESTART'' HAD TO BE ROCKET RELATED...AND IT IS THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY...:shucks:

Is it even british?
Lancaster 'cigar' mounts 'ABC' (airborne cigar)?

To jam german radar, some bombers were fitted with jamming devices, scattered over the bomber swarm. If one was hit, the rest was able to still effectively jam german radar. When the germans learned how to overcome this, there was 'corona' filling the frequencies with all kinds of voices and noises to disturb german ground radar from guiding the german night fighters. The latter also had active radar, but for closer action.

When british bombers received an active tail radar system to alarm the crew from incoming german night fighters, the latter switched off their radar and used this signal with their detection systems to find the bombers. It was a cat and mouse 'game'; later Mosquitoes equipped with night fighting instruments began to actively hunt the german night fighters.

But only 2 antennas here on the back of the fuselage, and one below the chin :hmmm:
"Blade aerial on the chin is for the 50-Watt transmissions, and the twin masts on the top of the fuselage for the 40-Watt transmitters."

B.t.w. found this very interesting, and the bomber crews did not even know what was waiting for them..

Moin.

@Buddhaid: Yes, it is a civilian experimental aircraft.

@Eisenwurst: A "sensible" aircraft :hmmm: It is not completely whacko, but sure unusual. It never got an license or permit to fly, so flights had to be done inofficially. Which is why it never flew officially, but reports tell it did, if not very well due to its weight. The inventor patented the special system, but it seems nothing much came of it.
My guess is that it would have been too complicated, too expensive, and it did not really work.

@Rockstar: not a De Lackner, civilian german invention built here.

@Eisenwurst: West-german, not a balloon, no oars.

[...] Did you take the photo of the "propellor"??
Yes. So most probably no Google picture search, but i did not try.
There are a few photos of the machine on the 'net, but hard to find if you do not exactly know what to search for.
Maybe Skybird ever heard of or saw it?

I am not sure how i shall even translate the german name or description of this thing lol.

I can add the museum is within less than 100 km of where i live.

edit: what you see on the picture is not a 'propellor' in the usual sense

Flapping, what you see is one of the outer wing tips.

They are wing tips belonging to an orinithopter "Schwan Eins" found on pdf page 3. Its in some weird language, Swahili I think. http://www.ornithopter.de/daten/herzog/schwingenflug.pdf

Rockstar yes that is it!
It is an ornithopter, but additionally the outer 'feathers' rotate back and forth along their axis while moving up and down, thus also driving the plane forward.

https://i.imgur.com/u6uZ0QMl.jpg

https://i.imgur.com/USwIsBHl.jpg

https://i.imgur.com/UVsBPVbl.jpg

Was a bit heavy due to all the mechanics, and the 4 hp engine assisting the pilot was too weak.
Anyway since it was a sailplane it flew but was not able to maintain altitude for long. Maybe with modern materials…

The inventor was Walther Filter, he patented it 1956 and the plane was called a 'Dreh-Schwing-Fluegler' since it was an improvement (ahem) to the ordinary ornithopters.

Over to you

P.S. @Rockstar:
Its in some weird language, Swahili I think.
Since it was the Germans who invented the written Kisuaheli ('Swahili') during the time when the Kilima'njaro was Germany's highest mountain, there might be some accordance :O:

OK, I'll be AFK the next couple of days (hiking in and near the Dutch mountains) and maybe my water pump puzzle was too specific, or water pumps are generally considered less sexy compared to ships, cars and planes. The closest guess came from Jim, so I would like to ask him to step in.

Anyway, take a look at this little beauty:

https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/y291/captess/0/6a55627e-a6c0-42c6-a9d6-44f9cd797f32-original.jpg?width=1920&height=1080&fit=bounds

It's a Lambach pump, a special flavor of a hydraulic ram (Impulse pump). It is driven by the works water (from a river with sufficient slope), but not by the current (= kinetic energy) but by the hydrostatic pressure (=potential energy). In case of the pump near Vossenack (A small village in the beautiful Eifel region) the works water was branched off from River Kall 28 meters above the pump.

It was used to transport drinking water from a deep well to a storage tank 180 meters above the pump. More than 208 liters per minute of works water were needed to transport 27.7 liters of drinking water per minute.

The Lambach pump, an outstanding example of hydraulic engineering, was invented in Marienheide near Cologne. Some 100 units were built. They were famous for their low-maintenance and reliability and reached a degree of efficiency of up to 90%.

And this is how it works:

https://youtu.be/ow5kS_y0hP4

Some remarks:

- In reality both gears are on the same level but the lower one (in the schematic) is not connected to the axle, the small eccentric bolt (the red triangle thingy) is.

- The fast movement of the "hammer" ensures that the inlet/outlet valves (A E E A) for the works water open/close rapidly. Otherwise the pump would come to a halt.

- The four valves in the drinking water piping are simple back-pressure valves.

- The transport pistons (Förder-Kolben) have to be much smaller than the driving pistons (Trieb-Kolben) and this ratio had to be calculated individually for each pump (hydrostatic pressure, transport hight etc.).
