Yes, this is it: VT11.5 for the TEE, the Trans Europ Express.
I think it has a "Dieselpunk" - like kind of elegance :D
https://i.imgur.com/KAGRQocl.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/tJGzrYPl.jpg
Built by MAN (Maschinenfabrik Augsburg Nuernberg) and designed by architect and industrial designer Klaus Flesche. The body was made of very thin steel and aluminium, the wheel and suspension technics were derived and developed from Kruckenberg's "Schienenzeppelin" from 1930:
Kruckenberg's "Schienenzeppelin" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B16EDYMu-b0)
The VT 11.5 was Diesel driven (two driving unit fore and aft each having 1100 hp) and introduced in 1957. There were a few experiments with Lycoming gas turbines:
https://i.imgur.com/LBH8OAMl.jpg
but they consumed way too much fuel.
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/DB-Baureihe_VT_11.5
The machines were built to pull the "Trans Europ Express" which was an international project in Europe beginning in 1954 with each country building its own locomotives (an international train project still lay in the future).
The trains were expected to be able to run at 140 to 160 km/h,
be Diesel driven since a lot of european railways were not yet electrified,
to have a maximum weight of 18 tons per axle,
to "run quiet" at high speeds,
have at least 120 seats and not more than three seats per row,
have a full-equipped kitchen and diner,
rooms for pass and customs control during the trip,
had to be painted in wine-red and beige for the recognition factor.
So Aktungbby was close, but Skidman takes the cake :salute:

I just love those black and white shots of the TEE. Compare that elegance and noblesse to the neglected shower the Deutsche Bahn has become today. It's a shame.

@ Eich: From a constructor's point of view it is very similar to a VW Buggy or "Beach Beetle": A open double-seater built on a metal framework (no integral body like in most modern cars), but this one was a new original design, much faster, more extravagant, a car that made heads turn.

sort of in dire emergencies! Hint: The tail hook was more often replaced by an elongated tail wheel for improved wings' angle-of-attack for shortfield takeoffs.:know:
Fieseler Fi-167BINGO!https://subsim.com/radioroom/picture.php?albumid=815&pictureid=11537 After that they were sold to Croatia,[2] where their short-field and load-carrying abilities (under the right conditions, the aircraft could descend almost vertically) made it ideal for transporting ammunition and other supplies to besieged Croatian Army garrisons between their arrival in September 1944 and the end of the War. During one such mission, near Sisak on 10 October 1944, an Fi 167 of the Air Force of the Independent State of Croatia was attacked by five North American Mustang Mk IIIs of No. 213 Squadron RAF. The crew of the Fieseler had the distinction of shooting down one of the Mustangs before itself being shot down—possibly one of the last biplane "kills" of the war.[3]http://www.german-navy.de/kriegsmarine/aviation/carrierbased/fi167/index.html OVER 2U EICHBBY!:Kaleun_Salute:

Aktungbby
10-12-20, 03:18 PM
Stuka's didn't have an upper wing!:Kaleun_Wink: One wonders, given the success of the essentially outdated biplane Swordfish's success against the Bismark, that the Kreigsmarine's intended carrier GrafZeppelin, for which the F1 Feiseler was designed, would have made a real strategic difference...or simply been 'hunted to destruction' like the Bismark by a chubby ex "First Sea Lord". The primary air power concept of the Reich was flawed from the start: the limitations imposed at Versaiiles; and it was primarily intended as a Heer support, for a swift European continental land war and not a strategic long range affair incl. subduing the RAF. England, in terms of Operation Sealion, time over target for ME 109 fighter support to subdue the RAF was simply a "channel too far" w/o "strategic" four-engine airfleets. Hitler said it best: "At sea, I am a coward"...So England reposed fitfully behind her briney moats. Ie: if your infantry support Stuka is doing a 1 bomb flying artillery sorty whilst your Lancastrian opponent is blasting your remaining Tirpitz in a fjord and principle cities with the 'cookie" Tallboy bomb'....you ain't gonna win the war!
Catfish
10-13-20, 01:21 AM
@Aktungbby:
You are not wrong, but the allied propaganda always stresses how Hitler wanted to conquer the world. They had already said that of Kaiser William, in WW1 :03:
I guess Russia was enough, and the latter would have probably won the war against Germany alone in the long run (see Hitler-Mannerheim recordings).
re the Fieseler, i had not heard much about this Fieseler 167 carrier plane, although the "Storch" was a phantastic plane.
I also had thought of a JU 87 "Stuka" first, but tail and rear open canopy along with the biplane design did not fit..

in WIN 10 has still got me stymied; it's not a simple ''ctrl-c'' & "ctrl-v'' anymore as in WIN 7.:Kaleun_Mad: and the multi-step delay time is costly when up against Catfish and Skiman.:wah:
I have WIN 10 and I use ctrl-c(copy) and ctrl-v(Paste) on occasion without any problems.

Most internet or map searches will likely put this in a different location. Instead, visitors should rely on GPS coordinates if they want to visit.

^ Yes! The Colani "Horch Mega Roadster" from 1996. His real german name being Lutz Kulani, he changed it for a more streamligned "designer" name :D
The company "Horch" built big, representative cars like Maybach or Mercedes at the time. Later there was a fusion between Audi, DKW, Horch and the Wanderer company. The founder of Audi also had the name "Horch" but was not allowed to use it because another company named Horch already existed, so they called it latin "Audi" for "horch!" or "listen!".
The four companies then merged and gave themselves the name "Auto Union AG", later just called "Audi".
Colani's ancestors had been producers of clothing, also for military purposes. The special coats and jackets of the german Kriegsmarine were usually called Kulanis (as you can also read in "Das Boot"), or sometimes Kolanis..
Colani created quite some car designs, but few were turned into real series in Europe, but he still is a star in Japan. He died in 2019..
This 'roadster' falls into a similar category as his "Aiglon" from 1976 .. Some photos of the Mega roadster:

The 219?
Catfish
10-26-20, 08:07 AM
^ Yes, the He 219 "Uhu" (~Owl, pronounced Oo-hoo in german like the sound the bird makes)
The first "real" night fighter being built for this purpose. The story of the german night fighters seems to be a largely untold one, maybe because the allies still seem not to know why they won the war. Hint: It was not the night bombing campaigns.
Here the photo from where i copied the detail, as a US prize after the war:
https://i.imgur.com/bKRnEYYl.jpg
The unique features were the nose wheel (the 219 being the first ever german plane to be equipped with such, it had to turn/twist during retracting to fit under the cockpit), and the ejection seats for pilot and navigator. It also had a pressurized cockpit and efficient heating system.
https://i.imgur.com/809uSIll.jpg
It seems to have been quite a good plane from pilot's reports, there was almost a rebellion by night fighter pilots and their leaders, because Mr. Milch (being his usual daft egomanic self) tried to hinder the production since he favoured the BF 110 G in the night fighter role. He even tried to bribe Ernst Heinkel to stop production of the 219
The pilots that flew the 219 had a different opinion, from speed to manouverability, to armament and the rear radar.
So only around 250 have been built, they first flew in 1943 and then until the end of the war, with some types being lightened to hunt night fighter Mosquitos. As usual at the time, too little and - if not too late - hindered by the own government.
This is quite a good story about the He 219 (in english):
Part 1: http://horseformer.blogspot.com/2014/03/the-story-of-heinkel-219-uhu-i-owl-in.html
