Casa Caracol?

I don't really think it is.. Rafa Nadal tennis center?

Neither.

I'm really struggling to think of any more clues for fear of giving the answer away but I can assure you it is a 'one-off' and very unique.

That should give it away now.

While I appreciate Jimbuna's admission of stupidity, :O: there are actually several (5 at least) Casa Caracols in Mexico(I just looked it up  ) and as such, having posted a definitive photo of the correct one first...having learned the art of lurking from the Skidmeister himself:haha: I shall therefore eschew passing it over and revel in my glorious victory! A narrow consensus 51%-49% judicious opinion surely! :shucks: This will preserve the integrity of the game per the OP rules, preventing even a scintilla of collusion twixt a Dutchman and a moderator who has lived in Holland.:O: The very honor of :subsim: hangs in the balance here! Alois Alzheimer, he is is credited with identifying the first published case of "presenile dementia"

A condition than took my father-in-laws life at the age of 59. Bingo! Also afflicted both my parents and I used to guard a major 2000+ person Jewish rest-home in SF with an entire floor of 200 patients, shambling around all night in a smock and Depends; occasionally pulling the fire alarms and escaping the floor...to try to get back home!! Essentially I was living 'night of the Zombies before it was in style! On a trip home to visit my widowed mom, she asked me-her first born- "if she knew my mother??!!" and I immediately had my BBY brother and estate executor "put her where we'd had daddy." She lived till 2015: age 95. Over to U:salute: but take two Aricept and tighten up on yer Español BBY!:O::k_confused:

Something does not add up, Like Jim I read that U- 633 was rammed by civilian SS Scorton, but here it reads (Wikipedia):

"U-633 was sunk on 8 March 1943 in the North Atlantic south-west of Iceland, in position 58.21N, 31.00W, by depth charges from the US Coast Guard cutter USCGC Spencer. 43 dead (all hands lost). (Axel Niestlé, May 2005).[4]"

The Norwegian steamship Rona and U-57?Nope; U-57 was raised and refloated and then scuttled at war"s end. My 'modus operendi' depiction of the demise of the U-boat in question is accurate... a permanent farewell literally off Cape Farewell in '42.

Buddahaid
12-23-20, 05:25 PM
Only one.

U-657. Sunk on 17 May 1943 in the North Atlantic south of Cape Farewell, Greenland, in position 58.54N, 42.33W, by depth charges from the British frigate HMS Swale.

Aktungbby
12-23-20, 06:41 PM
Good eye! but the expression "southest of Cape Farwell" applies to a broad area up to 500 nautical miles by participants of the battles. In the case of the sub sunk by my particular merchant: "Northern Atlantic south-east Cape Farewell, Greenland, in position.. ..N .. ..W by 120 Squadron" Uboat.Net is hazy on this sort of stuff. A careful review of the sinking locations of the Uboat's two other sinkings that night puts it's own loss location SSE of Cape Farewell: "500 nautical miles (930 km) south east of Cape Farewell,":arrgh!:

Buddahaid
12-23-20, 06:57 PM
Must be a year earlier then.

U-132. Sunk on 4 November 1942 in the North Atlantic south-east of Cape Farewell, in approx. position 55.38N, 39.52W, when the British ammunition ship Hatimura blew up in a huge explosion. U-132 had torpedoed this ship earlier and was probably waiting nearby for her to sink when caught in the lethal radius of the explosion.

One of 8 light cruisers CL24 thru CL31 started in 1926 but upped to heavy cruiser? In 1926, construction began on a new group of light cruisers, armed with eight-inch guns instead of the six-inch or smaller weapons carried by the existing CLs. Eight of these were completed between late 1929 and early 1931 as CL-24 through CL-31. At the beginning of July 1931, these eight ships were redesignated as "heavy cruisers" (CA), based on warship classifications established by the previous year's London Naval Treaty, but their hull numbers were not changed. Buddahaid

Towed is the key word there because it has a motor and is relatively fast according to the clues. That's why I pondered if the motor was for directed fire control and the relatively fast was for fire rate. I confess I'm getting nowhere on this one.

- built in the 40s in the Southern Hemisphere, not South Africa

- wheels and tracks

Not sure what you a referring to and a google search for "hybrid vehicle" of course shows all kinds of modern cars with additional electric engines.

Another clue (and maybe a description of a "hybrid"): It has wheels and tracks, but these are not used simultaneously. That is why it has a "fast mode" on the road and a "not so fast mode" off-road.

The Schofield Tank was a unique design, some essential parts (engine, gearbox etc.) came from street car production. Only prototypes were build, the most evolved one was shipped to England and checked for suitability. The Brits didn't like it and so the whole idea was dismissed.

Um, sorry, I didn't mean to cause confusion here. The Wikipedia entry for the "Ordnance QF 2-pounder" says it is a 40mm tank (vehicle-mounted) and anti-tank gun made by Vickers. It is understood that Vickers guns with 40mm calibre come in different flavors, I just used the more generic term.
