You've dredged up the wrong answer from the wrong pond. It's not a British ship, not an american ship. Think about whose home I was talking about.:03:

The coloring seems WWII German to me so complete stab in the dark some part of a Bf110. Makes me think of the cowling just before the propeller hub rear on a Messerschmidt.

But the angle seems off for that it looks upright or the photo could be from below looking up.

A cable feed for a computer or other electrical item?

TarJak
06-14-14, 09:08 AM
Not that, though there are cables involved in this items construction. Don't concentrate on the red. It's a very minor part of this item. The blue and grey are important to its operation but not the only important parts.

I think it's quite tough from this angle, just about any other angle would give it away.

Which has probably just given it away.

I'll just add that whilst watching this and it's Tiger Moth colleague would lead to no surprise as to how many WWI pilots walked, or at least hobbled, away from crashes - the speed, particularly with a mild headwind wasn't great with any stretch of the imagination.

Chopped up by the prop.

Vedeneyev M14P?
This is a Yankee desgin.

Another clue; this engine was only used in a few aircraft. One was an impovment on an existing desgin. The other magnesium alloy turn and burn.

How to provide a clue that wont easily give it away?:hmmm:

It was a production engine not a prototype. It was used by two diffrent bombers as well as two production and one prototype cargo plane.

That should help considerably.

No to both. It is a radial though. Theador Roosevelt might have liked this if he had been around. A little clue there.

He'd like everything from the Sophwith Camel to the A-10 :)

Wright 3350 duplex cyclone as used in the Boeing B29 Superfortress, the Conslidated B32 Dominator, the Constellation, & Fairchild Flying boxcar Instead of sending the Great White Fleet, Teddy R. (you GAVE it away!) could have sent the 'strategic bombers'"...the B-36 was the world's first manned bomber with an unrefueled intercontinental range." The B-29 was the progenitor of a series of Boeing-built bombers, transports, tankers, reconnaissance aircraft and trainers including the B-50 Superfortress (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_B-50_Superfortress) (the first aircraft to fly around the world non-stop (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucky_Lady_II)) which was essentially a re-engined B-29. I think Armistead gets it first though.:salute: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/d/dc/Wright_Cyclone_GR_3350_1.jpg/300px-Wright_Cyclone_GR_3350_1.jpg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Wright_Cyclone_GR_3350_1.jpg)

Betonov wins it. It is a wasp major 28 cylinder dohicky.

Armistead was very close the twin hornet was a previuos desgin.

Dont have the full photo on my phone.
I used such a close shot because the cylinder head shape and postioning is very distinctive.
