Time to make not voting a crime and the sentence six months in prison. And for those people who just can not see any party to vote for the ballet paper will carry the option none of the above. Sitting on your arse bleating on without even going over to your polling station to place to X next to none of the above is no excuse and off to prison you go, if I had my way. ;)

Well, the Lib Dems lost their Scottish MEP to UKIP, so Farage's bunch now have a toehold north of the border:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-27572290

In true UKIP fashion, the new MEP has already compared Alex Salmond with Robert Mugabe:

"Ukip's main candidate, David Coburn, now an MEP, arrived at the central declaration point in Edinburgh last night and, in typically combative fashion, declared Alex Salmond to be the Robert Mugabe of Scottish politics, based on recently published land reform laws."

Lord Oakeshott's resignation letter, or part of it, and I can't say I disagree with him. Clegg has got to go and the Lib Dems have to show a bit of back-bone against the Tories if they're not going to be wiped out at the next election.
They seem to have this mistaken belief that the reason that they're being wiped out is because they're in coalition with the Tories who have made unpopular choices, this is quite wrong, it's because they have systematically betrayed every single voter that voted for them in the 2010 elections by reneging on every promise they made, not exactly surprising for the cynical amongst us, but for the student vote which was their biggest block it was a major let down.
Lynch Clegg, install someone half decent (not Cable) and start rebelling against the Tories, bring the damn government down if need be, only then would the Lib Dems stand half a chance of survival.

As it is, they're screwed. :nope:

It's a shame because Clegg had promise, I mean, I liked Kennedy but he wasn't leader material, not strong enough and Ming belonged in a Werthers Originals advert, Clegg was someone new, fresh, young and confident. Watching him in PMQs back when Brown was PM actually made me sit up and think 'Wow, the Lib Dems have someone with a backbone'...Dear God, how wrong can one be? :nope: But, I knew that this would happen as soon as it was announced that Clegg had gone with Cameron. If only Brown had offered to stand down and call for new leadership elections in the Labour Party then Clegg may have gone for Labour, and he might have managed to keep some of his voter base. Quite what the economy would be like now under a Lib/Lab coalition is a matter for long and winded debate I am sure, but I think the Lib Dems would be in slightly better shape.

BossMark
05-29-14, 02:32 AM
As a out an out Labour supporter and party member, I thought Clegg was OK and a good leader of the Lib Dems, there was no way would I have ever voted for him or his party, but my sister had that misfortune to do so in 2010 (but never again) after always voting Labour that was down to Gordon Brown being PM, I just wished that he would have stepped down and David Miliband had taken over 12 months before the 2010 general election, the result may have been a bit different, but that is also up for argument.
As for Clegg now well he as sunk lower than a snakes belly after getting into bed with the Tories and going back on all his promises just so that he had that bit of power, which will just about wipe his party out in the 2015 general election.

Looking back, Brown should have stepped down as you suggest and hopefully David Miliband could have picked up and repair the pieces....alright, I know he is a friend of mine but honestly, there is a lot more about him than what we have currently.

Currently, I look at what the leadership options are for any of the parties and I shudder at the thought.

George Osborne has just gotten a new sports car. He goes to Liverpool and runs over a little girl's puppy. A furious onlooker gets Osborne out of the car, draws a circle on the road and tells Osborne to stand in it. Then he gets out his knife and cuts up his leather seats. He turns around and sees Osborne's smiling. So he goes to his truck, takes out a baseball bat, and starts busting his windows and beating his car. He looks back to see that Osborne's laughing. He's really mad now, so he takes his knife and slices Osborne's tires. He turns around and Osborne's laughing so hard, he's about to fall down.
The man demands, "What's so funny?"
Osborne says, "Every time you weren't looking, I stepped out of the circle!"

Boris Johnson has volunteered to be blasted by one of the new water cannons he has ordered for London's riot police.

I think the problem comes with the risk of a step on a slippery slope. We've already seen kettling used more and more as a tactic against large scale protests, and that has had its risks and rewards.

I'll willingly concede there is always a risk involved but that is far outweighed by the potential harm that could be caused to life and property should a riot situation be left to escalate out of control.

Do you think the risk involved is increased by them buying a model which is available at a bargain basement price as its current owners know it is too dangerous to use anymore themselves?
The demand raised in certain quarters for these devices arose from the riots that started in London, the reports into the police response found that water cannon would have been of no use at all.

They would however be good at hosing down protest marches if you already kettle all the protesters.
Though that would probably lead to a lot of riots which would escalate out of control.
"Not fit for purpose" seems to fit these purchases doesn't it.

Surely the water cannon would only be deployed and used should the authorities believe the situation warranted it....on the the streets of the UK I mean
Yep and that is what they said about firearms CS gas Tasers......
And fair enough an 80 year old strolling along with the aid of a walking stick can be said to be carrying a weapon thus making it a situation warranting use of police toys.

Point One petrol prices have risen, granted not every month.

Point Two sections of the NHS have been privatized, I will say not sure under which government. The long term aim to bring about the end of the NHS is going to happen by a simple process starving it of the money it needs.

Point three the ONS unemployed figures are a miss reputation of the true figures. They use the Labour Force Survey, to carry out a survey! What about the real figures in the benefit offices up and down the country?

All government have fiddled the figures and this present one has made more of a effort to cover up those real figures.
