Problem there is that Corbyn is for Brexit and he doesn't have widespread support from his MPs.

Further proposals from the UK but the EU don't appear to be in any form of agreement atm.

The UK government has set out proposals to ensure trade in goods and services can continue on the day the UK leaves the EU in March 2019.
A position paper calls for goods already on the market to be allowed to remain on sale in the UK and EU without additional restrictions.
It also calls for consumer protections to remain in place.

But European Commission spokesman Alexander Winterstein said the UK's position papers would not alter the framework for talks drawn up by chief negotiator Michel Barnier and approved by the other 27 EU member states.
"There is a very clear structure in place, set by the EU27, about how these talks should be sequenced and that is exactly what we think should be happening now," Mr Winterstein told a Brussels press conference.
"So the fact that these papers are coming out is, as such, welcome because we see this as a positive step towards now really starting the process of negotiations.
"But as Michel Barnier has said time and again, we have to have sufficient progress first on the three areas of citizens' rights, financial settlement and Ireland, and only then can we move forwards to discussing the future relationship."

This German editorial concludes that neither May nor Davies really want to execute the Brexit, and delay things in order to signal Brussels that they do not want it at all.

https://www.welt.de/debatte/kommentare/article167897861/Zu-viele-Skrupel-fuer-den-Brexit.html

Is the obvious truth hidden in plain sight, maybe? That there will be no Brexit and that it is not seriously wanted, not planned for, not mulled at all? It woudl explain why May, instead of pressing the gas pedal to the metal, just takes an even longer holiday, and that there are not serious preparations for the time after Brexit being done at all. Lets face it, the British represetnatives behave like idiots when meeting the EU so far, and are ill-prepared on every meeting, grinning wide, and wasting time.

Politicians. They should be listed as one of the biblical pests. As long as people tolerate their existenc time and again, they will get consumed by them. Would you vote for a party or candidate you do not like or respect or think of being on the wrong way, even if you saw 90 percent more advertising and TV time about it/him, than about their adversaries?

The Tories will be loving this.

Net migration has fallen to the lowest level for three years after a surge in the number of EU nationals leaving the UK since last June's Brexit vote.
Net migration - the difference between those entering and leaving the UK - fell 81,000 to 246,000 in the year to March 2017.
More than half that change is due to a decrease in net migration of EU citizens, which is down 51,000.

Never the twain shall meet.

Before the Brexit talks and politicians' soundbites come the off-the-record briefings. So, after more work to map out the UK's exit from the EU, how will the third round of talks go?
Not well, say both sides, cautioning against any big breakthroughs at the session starting on Monday.
EU officials speak of a "big gap", unlikely to be closed any time soon. The UK predicts highly technical talks, with progress coming in later sessions.
The British want to broaden the discussion to include a possible post-Brexit relationship, while the EU's chief negotiator Michel Barnier wants the focus to remain on his priority issues: citizens' rights, the UK's financial obligations and the Irish border.

From what I have picked up on Scotland's books are not balanced, so where is the money coming from?

It'll start with the letter "B". That's the Block Grant which Holyrood receives from the Treasury which is calculated via Barnett. As part of the increased powers that the Scottish Parliament gained it also has the ability to borrow money on it's own account.

The SNP largely cut or froze council funding whilst Scottish Labour controlled so many Local Authorities. Now that the SNP have a greater degree of control over them the purse strings will loosen.

TBH honest, without control of macro-economic policy and the "Stealth" taxes that go with it, Scotland is very unlikely to be able balance it's books.

Only independence or Full Fiscal Autonomy would do that.:hmmm:

It's a bit more subtle than that. There was a major stooshie last year over changes to business rates (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-38991273). As it turns out businesses in the North East and many other rural areas would be most affected by the rises, the Central Belt less so. So if he's based in the NE it's a bone of contention between the business community here and the SNP administration.

There have been dark mutterings up in this neck of the woods (Aberdeen in particular) that the SNP has deliberately set out sabotage the economy up here in order to boost that in the western central belt (i.e. the Clyde Valley and Glasgow) so they can hold on to their new ex-Labour voter base in those areas.

No doubt relations have worsened now that the Tories have made gains at the SNP's expense in this area.

BBC Scotland's Business Editor Douglas Fraser's take on the SNP Programme for Government:

Sturgeon's mid-term reboot (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-41173592)

Things haven't gone as anyone expected for the past few years. For Nicola Sturgeon, a rogue Westminster election knocked the momentum out of her party's dominance and the independence movement.
So 16 months out from her re-election to lead a minority administration, the Programme for Government (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-41147003) has the look of a reboot. She's switched off the administration, and switched it back on again, and come up with something that reads like an election manifesto.
It's pleased an impressively wide range of pressure groups: those who campaign for the planet, disabled people, against poverty, on race and gender, the business lobby, public sector unions and public transport.
And this is a manifesto that is willing to make some enemies and risk criticism; taking on the lock-em-up brigade on prisons: petrolheads and their diesel cousins: the obese, or at least those who sell fatty foods to them: and local councillors, who stand to lose powers to headteachers and local communities.
Also, Ruth Davidson has this to say about the Brexit process:

Scottish Tory leader says she is worried Brexit could damage economy permanently (http://www.newstatesman.com/politics/uk/2017/09/ruth-davidson-brexit-could-deliver-hit-we-can-t-recover)

What is her biggest concern about the impact of Brexit? She pauses. “Interesting question… My real fear is that if there’s a short-term economic hit, we don’t bounce back from it.”
Would she like a prolonged transition period during which Britain maintains access to the single market? “I’m for free trade and want to make sure that people from Scotland and the UK have access to – and the greatest ability to operate within – the single market, which I believe are the exact words the Prime Minister used in her Lancaster House speech back in January. The mechanism for how we get to that I’m less aerated about, as long as that’s where we get to.”

Almost forgot this - the GMB is calling foul over the decision to open up the contract for the new Type 31 frigates to yards across the UK rather than using the Clyde only:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-41174619

Viewed UK wide, it's a good decision and one I approve of, but from a specifically Scottish view point this is a potential hornets nest. If Glasgow gets the hump, the rest of Scotland normally suffers.

Who should lead the Tories at the next election?

Theresa May has declared her intention to lead the Conservative Party into the next General Election, scheduled for 2022, but do you think she'll get her wish? If not, then who?

Poll results as of posting this post.

Jacob Rees-Mogg 741
Ruth Davidson 566
Theresa May 454
Boris Johnson 218
David Davis 142
Philip Hammond 142
Amber Rudd 97
Andrea Leadsom 74
Sajid Javid 74
Damian Green 61
Michael Gove 59

My opinion
Jacob Rees-Mogg - Too much of a toff and reminder of Cameron
Ruth Davidson - Scottish bitter pill the country may swallow if no other option
Theresa May - weak washout but still better than Corbyn
Boris Johnson - Got flair but too much of a buffoon at times
David Davis - Safe but dry and not really leadership material
Philip Hammond - Too dry and clearly not got it
Amber Rudd - No chance
Andrea Leadsom - Better chance than Rudd but not by much
Sajid Javid - Could be the stalking horse
Damian Green - Too weak
Michael Gove - Damaged goods

Rees-Mogg would seal their fate, as said he's a toff a bigger toff than Cameron and that is a vote loser. This could result in a big down turn in the vote if Corbyn fails to get his act together. More people would stay at home.

Now things get tricky:

Holyrood: No Holyrood consent for Brexit bill 'at this time' (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-41233123)

The Scottish government will not ask Holyrood to give consent to the EU Withdrawal Bill in its current form.
Brexit minister Mike Russell told MSPs that the legislation posed a threat to the founding principles of devolution.
The Scottish government said there will be no consent motion for MSPs to vote on "at this time", and it will instead seek to amend the bill.
The UK government has insisted that Holyrood will see "significant" new powers devolved after Brexit.
Talks between the two governments over post-Brexit powers for Scotland ended in stalemate (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-40868557) in August, although more are expected to be scheduled.
Cardiff: Brexit: Carwyn Jones objects to 'hijack of devolved powers' (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-politics-41241327)

The Welsh Government has confirmed it will formally object to Theresa May's plan to transfer EU laws to the UK at the point of Brexit.
First Minister Carwyn Jones said the bill "hijacked" powers that "rightfully" belonged in Wales.
AMs will vote on a legislative consent motion (http://www.assembly.wales/laid%20documents/lcm-ld11177/lcm-ld11177-e.pdf), on the grounds that the bill will affect the assembly's competence.
Ex-Welsh Secretary David Jones (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-politics-41239423) has said there is a case for EU powers in areas such as farming to go to Westminster.
Brian Taylor's take on the matter: History and Henry VIII at Holyrood in Brexit consent debate (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-41245326)

Scotland's Brexit Minister is Mike Russell. Perhaps he might be more accurately characterised as the anti-Brexit Minister or the Minister for Mitigating Brexit.
Either way, Mr Russell is a cultured individual, a prolific author indeed. He has a keen interest in Scotland's cultural, social and political history.
So it was no surprise that Mr Russell reached for an historical analogy when delivering a statement to Holyrood on the latest Brexit developments (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-41233123).
The UK government's approach to Scotland was, he said, a modern version of the "rough wooing". Remember? The dating scheme pursued by Henry VIII?
Lacking an app or a website, Henry VIII essayed a rather different approach when seeking to hitch his young son Edward to the infant Mary Queen of Scots. Instead of chocolates and flowers, he opted for swords and gunshot.
Henry has resurfaced as a character in the current Brexit debate. That's because he decided, after careful consideration and full consultation, that the best source of law in England was himself, rather than any pesky Parliament. He took executive powers.

Looks like the DUP is going to put a knife in the government's back!

The Government is facing a symbolic defeat on public sector pay, a day after scrapping the seven-year cap on pay rises.
According to Sky sources, the Democratic Unionist Party is planning to vote with Labour during a House of Commons debate on NHS pay on Wednesday afternoon.

The Bank of England has said that higher inflation and a pick up in growth could lead to a rate hike in "the coming months".

Currency-wise, third world war has begun already years ago. That this still escapes so many people, is stunning. Dollar versus Euro versus Renminbi versus Rubel versus Pound versus centralbank-owned physical gold. Currencies get swung like weapons of war these days. Central banks are the new war ministries. Econimic Keynesian alchemists are the new Adolfs.

And I do not talk of war against cash money, which is another battle running. ( I fear in the medium term it already is deicded. Just see how much a major criminal like Kent Rogoff, who wants states to be equipped to totalitarian powers to plunder and steal, get celebrated and kneeled before. Like Keynes. That politicians ally with him, is clear, his gospel serves their interests of collecting more power, control and opportunity to plunder and hide their debt-making, but why the people still allow him to walk freely and elect people putting his calls for crime into action, is beyond me. )

George Osborne has been accused of "bitterness and bile" over his attacks on Theresa May.
Conservative backbencher Jacob Rees-Mogg hit out at the former chancellor, who is now editor of the London Evening Standard, a position he has used to launch a series of blistering attacks on the Prime Minister.

Claims that Mr Osborne, who was unceremoniously sacked by Mrs May when she took office last year, is pursuing a vendetta against the PM have been further fuelled by a recent magazine profile.
The Esquire piece said Mr Osborne is reported to have told colleagues he will not rest until Mrs May is "chopped up in bags in my freezer". (http://news.sky.com/story/george-osborne-wants-theresa-may-chopped-up-in-bags-in-my-freezer-says-magazine-11033831)

Philip Stephens, co-senior editor of the Financial Times, published a German opinion piece over here where he imo correctly points at the terrible basic mistake Londown is committed to - the assumption that is that after elections in Germany Berlin would start to support Londowns positions somewhat and push the eU towards accepting according compromises. He reasons that this reflects a traditional basic flaw in British foreign polciy towards Germany since always, and a general inability in Londown to see things from politically totally different perspectives - perspectives shared by the opponent on the other side of the table.

Merkel has very different things on mind than to help Brexit illusions and dreams by Londown to get the process running the way it wants.

I think Stephens is right there. Germany will present May, or whoever will be leader in the forseeable future, an ultra-hard crashlanding on the unforgiving grounds of reality. Londown reads too much into the high german interest in good trade relations with britain. Becasue although they are high, for the EUcrats in Berlin other things rank incredibly much higher in importance, no matter how foolish they are, than trade with the UK. This is what May and others do not understand. They overrate the UK's position and strength if not in the world, then in the EU.

And the British nuclear weapons may be important for Europe, but obviously nobody in Europe cares.

Now Macron starts to tighten the screw.

The UK must provide more clarity about its negotiating position on Brexit, the French president has said.
Emmanuel Macron said the issues of EU citizens' rights, the exit bill and the Irish border question must be settled before talks could be held on trade.
On Friday, Theresa May made suggestions including a two-year transition period after Brexit, and that the UK pay the EU for "commitments" previously made.
She hoped this offer, made in a speech in Italy, would unblock Brexit talks.
In the first response by a European leader to the speech, Mr Macron welcomed her initiative, but said the British position still needed to be fleshed out.
"Before we move forward, we wish to clarify the issue of the regulation of European citizens, the financial terms of the exit and the question of Ireland," he said.
"If those three points are not clarified, then we cannot move forward on the rest."

In Europe, it is easy.
1. The people finance and build the infrastructure, like rails, streets, powergrid, telecommunication.
(It then theoretically belongs to the "state", the people.)
2. Lobby and influence on politics have it that those accomplishments are then being sold by the state, to private companies, often for a penny.
3. The private companies use what is there for profit, while doing no upgrading, repairing, and not any maintenance.
4. All decays, until it is almost unusable anymore, companies are beginning to suffer because their bosses took out the money and left.
5. Now the companies and banks are crying for funding and being bailed out.
6. Now is the time for the state to get it all back from private hands, and repair/improve/upgrade all that has been neglected so long to fill the pockets of a few.
7. What happens in 6. is financed by – you knew it – the people.

And so on, starting from new.
British rail anyone? Seen the film "Navigators (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Navigators_(film))" ?

The joke is that while all cry how good capitalism is and works, the real backbone of infrastructure and real estate is built and financed by common people without money, so that a few can live on their back.

You mistake - once again - capitalism for monopolism. And that trend for monopolies you unfortunatekly have in just every form of society, goivernment, trading relations. Like the living being has an inbuild tendency to become old and ill and one day will die, it and nevertheless tries to fight against illness and thwe weakneing by age, we must also fight against monopolism. Its integral to ideologies as well as capitalism, and lives by the quality in man that we call greed. The remedies to counter it with, to keep it in check, are transpareny, an educating and training to freedom and self-responsibility. Only when people reject to hanhd over respoinsiubility for thmeselkves to others, they become invulnerable to these others' attempts to bribe them with luxury and promised easings of their lives. Transparency, freedom, self-responsibility - that is what is needed to fight against monopolies. And that means a population where peopel ahve a mindset of certain quality that today, in our nanny states and - in the end - socialist definitions of standards and social rules, have become extremely rare.

It starts with refusing to obediently believe that freedom can be given to you by somebody else. He cannot give you freedom, he can only forcefully take and keep freedom away from you. But if you then accept that and do not fight against this other guy, even support him, then what use is there in trying and hoping for a better world?

Servility is a pest. Freedom has its own pride, but we learn from schooldays on to defame it, to demonise it, to ridicule it, to spit on it.

Much of your criticsm I would sign in to, if only you would finally see that what you want to aim at, is not capitalism, but monopolism. The whole world seem to mistake these two today.

You mistake - once again - capitalism for monopolism. [...].

The first always ends in the latter.
Aggressive undercutting of rival firms.
Vertical integration.
The less governmental influence or regulation there is, the sooner it happens.
See Rockefeller, or the gilded age. Or see big oil, Microsoft, the car industry, now Facebook.
True, monopolies can be overcome by technological advances, as long as progress is not being hindered by the very companies who still want to sell their, and only their stuff. See: Oil and car industry.
But in the longer-lasting meantime, it is the common people who have to pay, and sometimes suffer.

Jeremy Corbyn is to tell supporters Labour is "on the threshold of power" and stands ready for government.
Addressing the party's conference in Brighton, he will say its general election showing has "put the Tories on notice", calling on ministers to "pull themselves together or make way".
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-41408150

I see it another way, clearly Mrs May was taken for a ride by her advisors at the time before they both stepped down after the bad result. But when you look at Neil Kinnock who was on course for a possible victory before that major gaff of a party which allowed the Tories to win he still did better than Jeremy Corbyn.

In the clearest indication yet that there could be a rate rise as early as November, Mark Carney suggested that it was time for the bank to "ease its foot off the accelerator".
The next opportunity for a change in interest rates is the Bank's monetary policy committee meeting on 2 November.
