What sort of odds on this?
PM to promise in/out referendum...but only if the Tories win the next general election.
David Cameron is to promise an in/out referendum on the EU if the Conservatives win the next election.
The Conservative leader wants to renegotiate the UK's relationship with the EU, before asking people to vote.

Is Labour's lead five points or 10? Why ICM and YouGov disagree
It all depends on how you assume those who say "don't know" will vote when the election actually happens.
Worst still while in the waiting room I read a article (No I don't recall the magazine but it was Jan 2013) saying 4 in 10 Labour voters would vote Conservative as they have no faith in Ed Milliband but would have voted Labour if David Millband was leader. Labour better get their act together and fast, time is running out and Toff Boy & Co are pulling out the stops. EU Referendum and now plow money back into the Military if re-elected.

Precisely...the problem for Labour is they caused most the reason for the austerity measures.
People don't like taking the resultant medicine but the majority know why it is necessary.
The downside for the Tories is how they go about trying to balance the books.
If Labour can come up with a convincing and workable solution I believe they would have a better than even chance at the next general election but until that happens I have serious doubts they'll get back in.
Ed is not leadership material, the party did not vote for him but it was the block union vote that got him the job. Ed is a nice guy but so far not showing the country he is up to the job. One way of showing he is, dump Ed Balls and give a real apology about Labour's over spending but also make it clear the bloody Banks contribution to the mess was bigger than what they did.
He must bring out strong manifesto now and not fall Cameron's tricks like the EU Referendum which he fell straight into.

Must admit I was bemused by the leadership election...I went against my unions recommendation and voted for David (a friend of mine) and did so again with my second vote as a Labour Party member.

David Cameron has hailed a real-terms cut in the European Union's next seven-year budget as a good deal for Britain.
The Prime Minister told the House of Commons the UK had successfully rejected proposals by Europe's "big spenders" for an increase in the budget, as he fought alongside Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden for a reduction in the EU's credit card limit.
But now...
Euro MPs prompted uproar last night by plotting to try to block the budget deal using a secret ballot so voters cannot hold them to account.
It emerged that they are planning to use a little-understood procedure to allow them to vote in private and defy the 27 EU leaders.

Mr Miliband said it was a "mistake" to get rid of it and the move would send a "clear signal" his party was on the "side of working people".

This is a disgrace, I'm sorry no I'm not buying this poor excuse. You would expect this sort of thing from a Tory council but labour! :nope:
I very much doubt a labour council in the north would ever think of a dreadful thing like this.
Camden council plans to move 761 poor families from London
Council says welfare cuts force shift of 2,816 adults and children to areas up to 200 miles away with lower housing rents
A council is planning the largest single displacement of poor people from London in the wake of the coalition government's controversial welfare reforms, singling out more than 700 families to be moved up to 200 miles away.
Camden council said that it would shortly be contacting 761 households, comprising 2,816 adults and children, because the coalition's benefit cap – which limits total welfare payments to £500 a week for families – will mean that they will be unable to afford their current accommodation or any other home in the south-east.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2013/feb/13/london-council-relocation-benefits-cap

So a couple who have never worked can stay in London if their benefits amount to less than £500, but a family with children who for some reason lose their jobs will be sent packing to the grim up north if their means tested social entitlements exceed the £500 limit.
Seems like a fair and well thought out policy.
If Camden council go ahead all they are doing is playing right into Tory hands and they will have a field day with it. Camden council can say its their fault but who is planning this move, come on Camden fight these Tory pigs that's who you should be having ago at...The Toffs!

LONDON (Reuters) - Chancellor George Osborne has limited options for pulling the economy out of its rut when he presents his fourth annual budget on March 20.
Faced with the risk of a third British recession since the 2008 financial crisis, Osborne is under growing pressure to act and he is expected to announce some measures to help investment in infrastructure, possibly offset by spending cuts elsewhere.

House building is another potential area for action. The CBI said building 50,000 affordable homes and encouraging repairs of existing houses could create more than 150,000 jobs.
Now there lies one of the best options (add schools and hospitals to said list)...there are plenty of unemployed with the necessary skills but they must be paid a fair wage.

No
The US issue was too many houses and too much cheep money being shoveled out to all and sundry
The UK at the moment has a housing shortage, but the property market is frozen as the banks require great credit ratings and a minimum 10% deposit, which is all but impossible for most first time buyers to raise,
So the UK has plenty of people who want to buy and who can afford the monthly payments and have spotless credit ratings, but are locked out of the market by the deposit they need to raise
There is nothing wrong with a 95% LTV mortgage, so long as the person doing the lending can afford the repayments

We can call it a bedroom tax if you like so the people who only read headlines can be outraged as well, but its a fact that there is a housing problem and there are a lot of people in social housing in houses bigger than they need, the problem is it hits the genuine people in need but councils have been given extra money to help them, its upto the councils to get the support to those who need it.

And hopefully the thugs and lowlifes who think its right to smash, pillage and destroy other peoples property will be dealt with by the harshest sentences available to the courts.

A well behaved protest on massive scale would be well in order and if it gets out of hand then those who caused trouble should be dealt with as the court sees fit.

So Iain Duncan Smith says he could easily live on benefits....
It's true....He'd get the highest rate for being such a bloody retard.
Spotted this interesting quote from... http://uk.news.yahoo.com/welfare-osborne-defends-benefits-shake-025256461.html#2qXyl7p
Here is the quote..
Thomas Ness
I run my own company and employ about 150 skilled and semi skilled people I took on a man that A.T.O.S said was fit for work so he did what he thought was right and applied for the vacancy, I had my doubts when I interviewed him but because the work was light I gave him the job.
On his first day all he had to do was pack bolts into a box he was doing fine for about an hour then his joints seized and we had to call an ambulance he was extremely embarrased and would not stop apologising I re-assured him and told him I would speak for him at a tribunal if he wished.
After he left in the ambulance I contacted the job centre and told them he was not fit for work after a load of speel they told me to contact A.T.O.S, which was a complete waste of time I would have had more sense from un-trained chimps.
The government have not thought this through properly, they have turned people against people who are genuine claimants and need the support of the benefit system, fortunately the man had his benefits returned to him.
So Iain Duncan Smith says he could easily live on benefits....
It's true....He'd get the highest rate for being such a bloody retard.
And he said about £53 pounds a week...right then £53 it is for one year and all you will have in the bank £5000, just watch it vanish paying off bills, renewing stuff and repairs that are needed.

Several of your politicians have tried it before to "prove" their point havn't they. All of them failed miserably.
Which raises the question. Given the proven track record of politicians failing to manage to survive for a week or even a day in "reasonable" poverty how stupid is IDS to be making such a dumb statement in public?

Iain Duncan Smith has described a petition calling on him to live on £53 a week as a 'complete stunt' and says he already knows what it is like to live on the breadline.
The Work and Pensions Secretary told the Wanstead & Woodford Guardian: "This is a complete stunt which distracts attention from the welfare reforms which are much more important and which I have been working hard to get done.
"I have been unemployed twice in my life so I have already done this (lived on the equivalent of £53 a week).
"I know what it is like to live on the breadline."

Toff boy and his other toff mates is just taking advantage of a recession created by their party donors in the financial sector. They have wanted to get rid of the Welfare State and the NHS since the Labour government first introduced them after WW2. They hated them both, even voting against the creation of the NHS, but because the UK had a post WW2 consensus on these issues they were too scared to attack them, fearing the response of the UK`s electorate. Even Mrs Thatcher wouldn`t have dared do what this current government is trying to do. Now this government has dusted down the plans and are doing what the Conservative party have dreamed of doing for years. However, its taken Toff boy and Gideon, the two bullingdon club boys who smashed up restaurants and burned £50 notes in front of the homeless with the help of that nice Mr Clegg to finally achieve their dreams.

You simply can't accept that the Brown government massively expanding the welfare state in part in order to pull as many people as possible into the welfare net through tax credits, running a large structural deficit in the good years prior to 2007 has anything to do with the mess this country is in now
As Liam Byrne said on his last day in office, theirs no money left

Not a real pointer to way people vote, traditionally local elections are used as a protest vote and come the general election they vote in a different way. Granted it will look bad on a local level for the Toffs if they take another hit.
But we have a problem the EU has more power than any UK government and the EU holds all the cards, its for the people of Europe to rid Europe of a greater monster known as the EU.

It is understood the vehicle was driven by police so can be legally parked anywhere – even without a blue badge.
This is actually true:

Chancellor George Osborne did not realise a car he was travelling in was parked in a disabled bay
Poor excuse due to these bays are clearly marked, granted the police officer was driving and they have the right of way but even so poor judgement to park there just so Osborne can nip out for some fast food.
I can not confirm this, IDS supposed have said don't have Internet to save money along with a few other things to live off £53. The Internet is used by job seekers as that is now the prime source to look for work and if he really said that then that was a dumb remark.

Did Thatcher save the UK in the 1980's?
No oil did, and on the back of that Thatcher makes a error and the result of that error, governments came after Thatcher used the proceeds. So the error started with her for making a poor decision.

UK 'missed chance to build up £450bn sovereign wealth fund'
Britain could have had one of the world's biggest sovereign wealth funds had the windfall from North Sea oil been saved rather than used to cut taxes and boost spending, according to a report out today.
A study from PricewaterhouseCoopers found that the UK could have built up a nest egg of £450bn - bigger than those of Kuwait, Russia and Qatar combined - had it put tax receipts from oil and gas fields into a long-term fund.
