I've tried to find an actual source for B. Franklin making that statement. Several attribute it to him, but no one ever cites an actual reference.

It's still a great saying, though, and somebody certainly said it. If I were to use it I would be tempted to subtitle it "Commonly attributed to Benjamin Franklin".

First one went up like fireworks on the 4th of July, and the second one slowed to a dead stop. Spent 25 minutes RT being depth charged before the Britischer scum moved off, and when they left, I finished off the second one.

It is simply called "Old Liner" and I think it is part of the Grey Wolves pack. Looks remarkably like the Titanic, though smoke is coming through all of the stacks so it must be loosely based.

I came across one sailing into New York and it sunk with 1 torp due to thin hull plating must be.

Lzs von swe

Yes, I ran out of torps and took some risks gunning down 2 trawlers, 1 fishing boat and 1 small coastal vessel plus even 2 small cargo with the deck gun. 30 sec reload time. I got attacked by 1 C-class dd and a some Hurricanes in the process. The C-class went down but that fishing boat got away. I got away without a scratch.

It's still worth a try with 512 MB RAM, guess it depends on the rest of your configuration. I have it running here with 512 MB RAM, 9800 Pro 128 MB and Athlon XP 2000+. Loading can be slow, but nothing horrible. Be sure to use the stock sea floor ;).

Yea, I'm using 512mb Ram, Radeon 9200 Pro, and a 2 Gig Processor, and really having no big issues with Grey Wolves. It's choppy at times in harbor, and the load times take a few, but the game play isn't really altered enough to take away from the fun :up:

In the hood photo, there is two HMS Hood's. They spawn in numbers despite there being only one!!

I took down two fiji cruisers, 1 Hood (who need's the Bismarck!), 1 King George V and 2 Armed Merchant Cruisers.

If you want to see one of my best patrols, look in the humor screenshots (some of the most recent) and have a look that I got, despite having Bernard as part of the watch crew!!

I have only 512 mb ram so I don´t think it´s any idea to try,

How come only 512Mb? Wouldn't even consider running WinXP at that, never mind a game! Memory is cheap enough, 1Gb is about £60.

I've got 2Gb in this machine - two weeks ago 1 stick went faulty so I worked for a week with 1Gb. Battlefield 2 was practically unplayable compared to how it was and I was really happy to get back to 2Gb!!

And after all the trouble modders went to make them. Rubini's Harbour Traffic mods have an option to have minefields and subnets it friendly ports. In some of them you pretty much have to follow the escorts. At the start of each patrol one of the first ships you see will be a flotengebleiter or verpostenboot, which immediately starts sailing out of the harbor. That's the escort.

To be honest, it's all about experimentation. I'm no Photoshop buff, I just added a few filters here and there, see what worked, tweaked the brightness/contrast and voila!

Here's a rough explanation of what I did:

First of all, Image > Adjustments > Desaturate;
Increased the brightness/contrast;
Added gaussian blur;
Duplicated the layer, added grain (vertical) - you need to experiment with the grain and see what works best;
Set the layer to overlay and merged with bottom layer - again, try different blending modes before merging;
Created a new transparent layer;
Rendered clouds, followed by difference clouds;
Set the transparency of the layer to +-50%, merged with bottom layer;
Created new layer, Filter > Render > Fibres. Experiment with Variance and Strength;
Set the blending mode to Soft Light, transparency of layer +- 50%, merged with bottom layer;
You can add some Film Grain if you want to;
Add some spots, black or white to the image with the brush for the final touch (grunge brushes works the best, you'll have to google for them though);The result:

http://img77.imageshack.us/img77/9239/sh3img159200613egj8.th.jpg (http://img77.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sh3img159200613egj8.jpg)

See what you're getting at. Constructive criticism?
The pic is too 'grey' and has no detail or subject, lines are too noticable.
Instead of simply binning the colour with "Desaturate", add a 'Channel Mixer' layer and tick the Greyscale box then move the sliders up & down - gives much more control.

dont worry theres nothing wrong with your sh3, these pics have sooo much stuff added on top of the original image there barely recognisable as sh3, all the particles were replaced, the lighting redone and some funky volumetric light rays added.

Depthcharge damage on a VIIc u-boat & minefield

Made specially as a nice desktop image for myself and anyone elso who has an interest in subsims.
There is an SH3 screenshot under there somewhere... as you may have noticed there is some postwork ;)

The texture came with a mod (GW i think) so i dont know its original author- sorry.
I added a few dents to the model to simulate damage from depthcharges.

Friendly fire? what are you talking about? Most part of the war Finns and Germans where allies, or more correct, they had the same enemy.

Note that the plane is not finnish made, but it's a Hawker Hurricane (probably Mk1) and most finish planes where given to them, (or sold).

Also note that Sweden sended the "Swedish Voluntary Air Force" (or F19) with 12 fighters (mostly or only J-8 Gladiators), 5 bombers and 8 different planes. IT dosn't sounds like much, but that was a third of Swedens entire air force, and played a significant part in the war.

Hehe, got a bit carried away.....:doh:

We (the Finns) flew mostly anything we could get our hands on, every single crashed Russian plane was closely examined to see if it could ever fly again, and many did...
Christ we used planes over 15 years old!!!:rotfl:

ehm mate, you were like fighting the biggest country in the world, and here is the strength differences in the first war:

Finland:
250 000 men
30(!!!!!!!) tanks
130 aircraft

U.S.S.R (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics)
1 000 000 men
3000 tanks
3800 aircraft

You had all reason to use 15 year old planes mate:up:

10-20-06, 12:47 PM
That was the Winter War 1939-1940. Back then we didn't have Germanys support. No Hurricanes back then lol!:doh:

The odds were evened out during the Continuation War (1941-1944), because we received brand new weapons, equipment and even soldiers from Germany. Also, we didn't have as tough resistance, since the USSR put all its assets against the Germans.
But in the summer of 1944 hell broke loose again...:shifty:
But that's another story...:|\\

Old biplanes from World War I, steam boats, what the Heck not. If it could fly or drive, we took it. Military wasn't #1 on the Scandinavians' budgets.

The Swedes make some incredible fighter planes today, though. And the newest Stealth MTBs from Norway and Sweden are pretty impressive. We should've had them in 1940:p.

There is Gdansk (Danzig) and Gdynia (Gotenhafen). In GW Gdansk has ships and Gotenhafen is empty, which is the opposite of the way it really was. Gdynia was the major seaport for the Gdansk area. Also Gdyinia is listed as Gotenhafen and is German from the start of the war. This is wrong; I found out about it the first time I raided Gdansk. With two DDs hot on my trail I ran to Gotenhafen, thinking there would be German ships there to help me.:oops:
