@ ViperU48: Thanks for this. So, how exactly do I change the storm conditions (the original reads: "StormConditions=7,0.1;max wind speed [m/s], max rain intensity [0,1]")?

Hey Kapitän,
In your case, you only need to change the 7 in "StormConditions=7" to a smaller number, while leaving everything else unchanged. That number is the wind speed at which "rough water" mode turns on, meaning you can't use your guns and the crew puts on their rain gear (the lack of gun use could simulate a frozen/inoperable deck gun or aa gun). Be sure to make a backup of the file in case you are not making it as a mod for the mod enabler.
I havn't tried a value of zero but i'm sure it should still work. Mine is set to 2.

That would be Fubar's VIIC Winter skin, just found it last month and it's great! Thanks to Jimbuna (kudos btw Jim) for collecting all of Fubar's "lost skins" and archiving them. I believe it's in the VIIC skin pack pt.2 .
For my personal setup, I edited the NSS_Uboat7c.cfg file (stormconditions = 2) so that the crew will wear their rain-gear even in the calmest seas to simulate an f'ing cold day (thought it was weird seeing the crew in summer clothes on a frozen ice boat). So all i do now is throw on this hybrid 'winter-mod' when i know it should be freezing outside. Highly recommend a nice frozen arctic patrol! :arrgh!:
PS: I hope you don't mind me asking, but do you play WWII Online? I could have sworn I was just fighting along side a Timmy41.. :)

@Kapitän: Does the same thing happen with a career mission? I'm afraid I have never used WAC4.1 and I am currently in an early war setup, so I have not been able to use my 'winter config' in a scenario with late war sensors (or other major mods apart from GWX). Still I am surprised that this is happening...

@ ViperU48: I can't start a carreer wtih WAC4.1 - CTD. So, I really only use WAC-Single Missions to try different things out and the "Destroyed Radio Antenna" when changing the storm conditions, happens to be one of them :06:

@ BUKER: Very nice pics. I like No. 2 + 3 the best. They show two things very nice:
1. The actual stream lined bow of the IX-C/40 boat (where did you get that?)
and
2. The completly disproportional size of the bridge of the SH3-stock IX-type boat (Crew and AA-guns much too big in proportion to the rest of the boat!).

I was testing RB's SH4 Effects for SH3 and saw something cool. Twice I torpedoed ships and had the blast from a torpedo on one side rip up through the superstructure on the other side.

Well it may not be a screenshot, but it is the result of trying to get one with higher video card settings.
Suffice it to say I failed, but I have placed an order for a whole new build, I ordered an I7 980X, 12Gb 1800mhz Ram, two 480's and a Rampage III Extreme. So in around a month or two I will be back at SH3 but for now, my laptop runs to hot so I will take a break.
I will give SH5 a breif run though, to see just how bugged it is. But then I will be back.

Be careful, b/c sometimes ships without flags are legitimate neutrals. Still, if this one was sailing around the British Isles it was probably being used by the Brits. :D

For lifeboats and survivors you need one of the mods that adds them to the game.
There are at least a couple, and should be threads in the Mods Workshop Forum for them. Do a search there for "lifeboats" and it should turn up the relevant discussions.

Using Stock SH3 I was entering the command room from the bridge and found I could move around the interior of the sub using the arrow keys. This shot is from the rear quarters looking into the command room.

I guess this is why:
My favourite (for those that dont know it):
Shift + F2 while inside the sub lets you roam around just like free cam outside. (Just dont wander to far into the darkness, as this might cause CTDs.

I hit number lock and delete to get a clean screen shot and this was a mistake. By the time I was ready to hit Ctl-F11 he had come loose and disappeared....:nope:

Methinks you should speak to the kommandant of my escort, who IIRC does a good 8-10 knots while getting me safely out of the harbor.
OTOH maybe they're afraid I'll run right over them if they go any slower. I did have that tendency early on to barrel right by them at flank speed. :oops:

@ Myxale : Oh yes... I knew I wouldn't be able to escape them, when a group of 4 ships with depth charges racks start pinging you, you inevitably start to worry, LOL.
Once these destroyers got to be joined by a killer group I took extreme care to avoid their attacks/depth charges, and only got the flak damaged. It all started someday at the end of 1942 around 21:00/9:00PM... There was so much explosions around my boat that I really wanted to check how many ships were dropping their load on me. I waited until the sun came up, and when I saw via free cam that 9 destroyers and corvette were there...
I did not surface and surrender. :stare:
I just hit alt+F4. :rotfl2:
I've been depth charged for the whole night, and MAN, this night was LONG, haha.

Below the depth charges. I used the tactic from the Movie U-571. I actually went further down than the movie. @260m, rigged for silent running, deployed decoys,Gained some distance, Ship was hurt, but she held at 260m . Surfaced and a stern torpedo eliminated the target.

I do have broadband. Unfortunately it's wireless, and the provider isn't the best. Also, .pngs take up four times the bandwidth, which costs money. Pretty is wonderful when you're not paying for it.

I agree they are better than .jpg but, there are still alot of areas in the world that only have dialup, and .jpg's load alot faster for them.

Yes it does, been there myself a time or two.:yep: I wasn't complaining, just explaining. I'm on good cable broadband but, several years ago could only get 14.4 dialup where I lived at that time, so I can understand what those people go through.

That's a pitty! Do you know whether it's possible to just delete the upper wooden box without messing up the textures on the lower boxes? EDIT: Tried it myself and it works fine! Now I will probably exchange the containers with the wooden boxes (because removing the containers completely leaves Jimbuna's Q-ship guns naked :) )
BTW, beautiful pictures :up: ! What environment mod are you using?

I am using MEP - lovely mod indeed, although personally I like the effects more than the interface changes. Stock SH3 actually had an excellent interface in my opinion - except for drab-looking icons.

I keep a separate SH3 installation for my modding tests. Here's one of them. :D
Some things to keep in mind:
1) My "friend" here can move at varied depths and even surface.
2) This is not an MP match - it's a shot of an AI object.
3) He can be spawned by radio messages once you sight a convoy.
4) He has some freedom of movement, and will not move like a train on a track, as many of the current AI units do.
4) He can actually launch attacks against enemy units, and will retreat when he's out of torpedoes.
Hopefully, more developments later...

Intercepting a small cargo ship north of Cape Verde. Struck by 1 torpedo, the ship erupted in a massive inferno. According to SH3 Commander, there were four survivors from a crew of 65.

It's a Hansa-type freighter. I was hanging out about 200 kilometers west of Narvik waiting for the invasion of Norway to start when that drove by. So I powered up, matched speed with it, and started taking pictures. The skin on my Type IIA is called Flecktarn camouflage and I'm pretty sure it was made by Venatore.
And for content: I'm pretty sure this was the Warspite.

IIRC the vessel is the NKLS class and is definitely included in GWX3.0

Only a small freighter with 2228 BRT, hit by a single G7e / T-II and sunk at CG86, 270km west of Tanger at January 1st 1942, at 8:03 AM - but I think it's a nice series of screenshots :)
Too bad there was no explosions or something, she sunk quiet and slowly approx. 30 minutes after the hit.

Warspite's one the British BB's that usually only comes out with a Task Force. Have yet to find her moored in a harbor yet, or parked in a specific sector (waiting for the rest of the task force to arrive, then it leaves) so far.
Props for a picture perfect impact hit to the propulsion system. Doesn't look fore enough to have blew up the boilers but with a solid hit to the fore section BB's tend to sink like rocks when they can't use their engines anymore :up:

Have seen quite a few of them - usually at least one in the vicinity of Wilhelmshaven, and pre-war I often passed them going from the North Sea through the Channel into the Atlantic.
