First world war battle ship clash in the North Sea. You can read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Jutland#Sudden_death

Several British battle cruisers exploded and sank within minutes after being hit by German shells. Poor handling of cordite is thought to play a big part in those explosions. To be able to keep up the fire rate the crews left safety doors open.
Thus, an hit on a turret sent an flash fire down the hatch to the ammunition bunker and the ship was history and so was some 1200 men.

As the chap in charge that day said... "There seems to be something wrong with our bloody ships today!"

Jutland was really the last great sea battle, of course you've got instances like the Bismark and Sharnhorst...but not anywhere near the same scale at Jutland!

These shots were taken during a TypeXXI-patrol, close to the Norwegian coast, July'44.
The Uboat in question (U-2502) was acting as an additional escort to an German convoy, which ran into a Allied Hunter-killer group, consisting of 5 destroyers of various sizes.
As we were close to the coast, a contact-report was send.

The U-2502 sank 3 destroyers with acoustic-homing torpedoes, and after surfacing again, we opened up fire on Avengers which came in from the West...destroyed 4 of those little buggers, while the other aircrafts + 2 remaining destroyers were taken care of by German aircraft that finally came in (as a response to our contact-report), and by the sole surviving German destroyer-escort.

It was a battle which I never will forget.
The only loss on our side was 1 destroyer-escort!

Yep, I survived allright, this
was after busting through Gibraltar into the Med, immediately afterwards the weather went like that....

I sank the greek Merchie that flower was escorting and thought I could get away in the murk on the surface, but that thing had radar, resulting in the chase pictured, He was only 2 knots faster than me, but that was enough to ram me as shown.

This sort of thing has happened to me before, mostly because of my carelessness, so I know what to do, turn away hard after being rammed, dive at flank speed and usually, as in this case, the DCs land far enough away to only cause minor damage to your sub.
In this instance the Flower eventually sank from self-inflicted damage and I continued on to Sardinia to get my boat patched up, I arrived there with about 60% hull integrity left

I would suggest not trying this sort of thing with real DDs they're a lot faster and do a lot more damage than a flower which only has that silly popgun on the bow :up:

Then you gotta look closer mate! :arrgh!:

In any version of GWX (unless you've further modified your interiors) thake your free camera from the control room and go up the ladder with it.

You'll pop up into the conning tower interior... and there it all is.:up:

You can also go into it using the mouse. When you are on the bridge, just click on the hatch at your feet, or from the control room, just click on the space where the ladder begins to come down.

That periscope is bugging me though :) thanx, mate! i know, i had just surfaced inside a convoy, after checking the scope for nearby escorts.. Me & my trigger-happy crew were so excited about all the beautiful tonnage, that we....hmmm..."forgot"...to lower the scope.. and the result came out like it did... But,I'll try to photoshop it away..
*EDIT* Scope removed,mate! (And yes, it looks much better! Thanx!!)

BTW: If someone is wondering...:

*To get the eerie lightning effect in PS:
-open the picture you want to edit
-duplicate the layer (into "whatever" layer copy or something)
- Go to "FILTER" on the menu
- select "BLUR"
-select "GAUSSIAN BLUR"
-set value to between 5 and 25, according to how much light there is
in your pic. (more light, higher number)
- press "OK"
-select "LAYER/LAYER STYLE/BLENDING OPTIONS"
-select "BLEND MODE"
-select "MULTIPLY"

VOILA!!

(Try to play around with other blending modes, to get different effects!:up:

haha try reading the book Iron Coffins (http://www.submarinebooks.com/IronCoffins.htm), its a great read and the author talks about a few of the attacks on convoys made by wolf packs of around 30-40 Uboats! :o

There would only be a few as well!!....Not often they could amass more than 20 :hmm:

Uh oh, my 2nd patrol with GWX 2.0 and I'm in abit of a trouble. I went to the Lerwick sub base to see what's there. Found pretty much nothing and left. Surfaced in the cover of fog as my batteries were dry and a DD jumped me from the fog. Landed quite a few hits on me, killing 3 crewmembers and wounding 2. Now, I'm laying in the bottom, leaks patched and all silent, waiting for the DD to leave me be.

I dodged a lot of regular DCs there but those hedgehogs got me....

On the up side. when I reloaded the save (testing so no DiD) I dodged that convoy and found me a group of tankers instead

Got home to Bergen with 30.000 GRT in 1945 :rock:
