The Allies sure felt it was worth it to blow up the only drydock on the atlantic large enough for the Tirpitz :o

I know it's just a game, but this was a little poignant to watch. I've read of at least two airmen who won posthumous VC's under similar circumstances - one while bombing a bridge, and another while attacking a U-Boat (the German survivors actually recommended him for the award).

Strange thing was those flower class had me dead in there sights and failed to cause any damaged. It wasn't still after my attack run I dived to avoid the two destroyers coming at me then and only then my troubles started. :dead:

There's a video on my FF page. It's quite big. It's called Ubermod Surface Attack. Check it out.
Basically, the key is to keep a low profile (that means face the enemy, you don't necessarily have to go decks awash) and go very slow. :up:
In that video the eels all missed because the UZO marking lines were incorrect (the numbers needed to be doubled) but I fixed that problem in v1.3 of the Ubermod (just in case you decide to check that out too ;))

The crashed plane didn't do much damage. If you look carefully, though, you will see a bomb (I don't remember if the crashing plane was the one to release it). It landed in the flakship's aft magazine and blew her up.

I watched the video - hype! I love your periscope/uzo mods, and wonder what the heck you were up to with that cool dial around the periscope window. Your approach is very different to mine - not just that you do it surfaced, but that you take a variable course - i almost always come screaming in at 90 AoB and dive, and creep in along this course as best i can, figuring that it's the easiest way to close the distance. Also, I notice you have a different stadimeter - wonder how that works.... I spend all my time trying to guesstimate the convoy's speed, then i just get quick range estimates and fire off all the torps based on a 90 AoB preset. It works decent, excepting extreme ranges and/or target eccentricities.
I think there might be something to what you say about night detection in Ubermod. I've never got that close to an escort without my boys ducking, and the message 'we're under attack' popping up. But I like it - I think the detection at night _should_ be that bad, at least pre-radar. However, I watched your second vid and noticed that during the day you can come in at periscope depth with the periscope up. I GWX 2.0 you get detected doing this. Especially inside the convoy. For the time you had your peri up, I would have been detected for sure. They start shooting at the scope... Anyway, cool vids. I wonder if that cruiser you hit sunk.... makes me want to try putting event camera on again - it's a good way to cut to the chase rather than hitting F12 getting near your target, then diving the camera and listening for the torpedo whine.:)

I agree. I'm still not convinced that the colour settings have any effect on sensors, but if they do, and if my mod makes ships more blind at night, then - brilliant!!! :rock:

It was a risky attack, but again I've done that same thing many times in unmodified GWX 2.0. Early in the war, the enemy are blind and deaf.

Yes, yes, I know, it's happened many times. It wasn't a very professional attack. But early in the war it usually works, even without the OLCE (1 or 2) installed.

OK, I quickly fired up a saved night-time attack game, at the darkest time of night with the Ubermod installed, and this time I just barged in at ahead flank instead of using my usual, careful approach.
They're blind. :dead:
Totally blind, actually, at night.
I've found the problem and I'm fixing it. :oops: :oops:

The Holtenau locks on the eastern entrance to the Kiel Canal.
The Brunnsbuettal locks are on the western entrance.
If your using GWX2.1 you can do a lot worse than getting this cracking piece of kit:

I just found a convoy way out in the atlantic in 1940 being escorted by HMS Rodney...
And nothing else, not a DD or Escort to be seen.... Once I'vbe taken Rodney out, it's going to be a very very long trip to England for that Convoy....

The two sunset or sunrise ones are great.
Back from RL interfering, a couple more. Had flanked the convoy during the night and was in ideal position come dawn, ahead of the convoy's port column with the convoy between me and the sunrise. Then the convoy altered course, ruining the setup.

The sea texture is just GWX 2.1. I just happend to be a very bad storm even i had not see the sea that bad before.
All i have done to the shot is just sharpen it up a little. Other than that it is has it was.

That is a great shot :up: . You can just feel the rolling and pitching and imagine hanging over the rail (or preferably to avoid being washed overside, down below) being sick.

I am using the liferaft mod and Racerboy's effects. They look very nice together and run silk-smooth at 1x-4x time compression. However, at higher tc's the game stutters.

Wow, great shot man, but look at that debris field, what did you sink there mate....your whole Merchant-fleet?:hmm:
I am using the liferaft mod and Racerboy's effects. They look very nice together and run silk-smooth at 1x-4x time compression. However, at higher tc's the game stutters.

Singing? Interesting. A survivor of the "Lancastria" said everyone sang "There Will Always Be an England" as she went down; for the rest of his life he pretty much broke down whenever he heard the song.
