They had two external torpedo tubes mounted above the pressure hull, so it looked a little ugly with the extra tube housing. But that did mean that it had 8 bow torpedo tubes (I think:hmmm:!)

They were also refitted with a reduction of two internal bow tubes and the removal of two of the three aft-facing external tubes, leaving six bow tubes and one external after tube.

I try to mod them myself using "silent editor" since SH3 graphic engine has the abilty for shadows.
Problem is its all srewed up so the shadows are disabled in the game.

Barrage balloons....used mainly to deter low flying aircraft from carrying out bombing and straifing runs.

The basic idea was they would lose their wings on the wire....the balloon was used to keep the wires upright.

In 1938 the British Balloon Command (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAF_Balloon_Command) was established to protect cities and key targets such as industrial areas, ports and harbours. Balloons were intended to defend against dive bombers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dive_bomber) flying at heights up to 5,000 feet (1500 m), forcing them to fly higher and into the range of concentrated anti-aircraft (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-aircraft) fire—anti-aircraft guns could not traverse (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traverse_%28gunnery%29) fast enough to attack aircraft flying at low altitude and high speed. By the middle of 1940 there were 1,400 balloons, a third of them over the London area.
While dive-bombers were devastatingly effective against undefended targets, such as Guernica (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombing_of_Guernica) and Rotterdam (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rotterdam), they were very vulnerable to attack by fighter aircraft, and their use by Germany against Britain with its effective Royal Air Force (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Air_Force) was rapidly discontinued. If your referring to the Destroyer in my post, I think it was a Flower class. I just blind fired at 180 and since there was 7 Destroyers back there I was pretty sure I was gonna hit one

I really appreciate your efforts - it's nice to sink a merchant in a "Ropner" paint scheme and actually have it reflected in SH3 Commander ("Willowpool", which was in fact one of Ropner's many long bridge deck - style ships).

That's good to know. I had to dig out my working list after reading that and check whether I had found a picture or just guessed. Turns out I compared the picture and marked it as an exact match!

1. I play GWX with the following mods:

-SH5 water for SH3
-Racerboy's latest effects
-Merchant Fleet Mod Beta
-Improved Ships Mod (an unreleased cargo ship mod)
-A version of the lifeboat mod that I have created myself, with wooden lifeboats & floating survivors

2. Most of the ships are available at the following link:

3. To get rid of jagged lines you need to change the settings in your ATI or NVIDIA control panel and increase the Anti-Aliasing - at least 4X or 8X should look nice.

By the way, the Improved Ships Mini Mod will be released soon and provides new models for the following ships:

-T-2 Tanker
-Rose Castle Ore Carrier
-CAM-Ship
-Empire Freighter

Your last group is interesting. The first one is wonderful - dark, moody, almost real. The last one is not in the same class, but is very good. The Bismarck? It's a great shot, but the water looks like stock SH3. That's just odd.:sunny:

It is part of a private pack put together by BBW and myself containing 20+ ships (some of them yours) including Strasbourg, Leipzig, Pinguin etc.

Here's a dramatic yarn for you:

I was loitering off Cornwall, hoping to pick off some coastal traffic, when I got a report from BDU about large capital ships inbound. They were quite distant, but I decided to give chase. Several hours later I spotted a destroyer throught the fog ... and another ... and another! Obviously they were guarding something important.

Behind them loomed the "HMS Hood" and the "Repulse", sailing proudly in formation with some Dido class cruisers. I closed in on the surface until the Tribals got antsy - then I submerged. Two of them turned towards me and obviously knew something was up, so I didn't even get a chance to aim properly. It was "spray & pray" with a full bow salvo.

Amazingly, they were on target. "Repulse" outran the fish, "Hood" squeaked by with literally yards to spare. The light cruisers had nowhere to go and I got two strikes on one at the bow & stern - she sank within 3 minutes.

I got a pounding from the destroyers and crashed into the seabed twice, but I survived. Sadly, I didn't get credit for the kill because about an hour after my escape the universe crashed! :D

BTW, this took place in 1940 - if I'd sunk the "Hood", I think she would have gone down without blowing up & with rescue ships nearby, so I'd actually be doing her crew a favor!

Finally! Was cruising on an early January 1942 Arctic patrol and spotted these for the first time (after playing SH3 since it was released :O: ).

At one point the waves were white-capped at full thundering winds; great way to feel cooler during a hot summer's day!

...Also a good way to really fudge up your bow when you ram into one with 200m forward visibility during a foggy night...

That would be Fubar's VIIC Winter skin, just found it last month and it's great! Thanks to Jimbuna (kudos btw Jim) for collecting all of Fubar's "lost skins" and archiving them. I believe it's in the VIIC skin pack pt.2 .

For my personal setup, I edited the NSS_Uboat7c.cfg file (stormconditions = 2) so that the crew will wear their rain-gear even in the calmest seas to simulate an f'ing cold day (thought it was weird seeing the crew in summer clothes on a frozen ice boat). So all i do now is throw on this hybrid 'winter-mod' when i know it should be freezing outside. Highly recommend a nice frozen arctic patrol! :arrgh!:

PS: I hope you don't mind me asking, but do you play WWII Online? I could have sworn I was just fighting along side a Timmy41.. :)
