Sailing out of Wilhemshaven, U-47 comes across a group of German Type34 destroyers, just west of Helgoland. They're headed west and look to be on a mining mission.

Left from Vigo, Bessel. So did not have any renown for reaching patrol area. Played on 94% Realism with GWX. Last torp hit, but did not sank a 22K tons Fleet Carrier.. :( Would have been a real renown harvest it would have sunk...

Damage was caused by the "hat" i used in my convoy attack... used it for taking out all escorts before surfacing and using the deck gun.

I dont get it... Does the number say BOOB or something
It says 8008. The problem is that numbers have to read the same way forward and backward, as the game reverses images from side to side.

Iambecomelife has solved the problem, but the Flower skins were made before that happened.

Given the date (late 1943) I'm guessing he spent a good deal of time traveling submerged due to the possiblity of attack by aircraft. Can't get the same top speed submerged that you can on the surface.

Or maybe just slower speed overall to conserve fuel for a particularly long voyage?

Economical reasons. Longer range with 7kts then with 10 or 15 knots. :up:

And you need some reserves for hunting convoys. Or high speed manouvers when under attack from planes.

Actually 'Lifeboats and Debris' doesn't have the long wooden lifeboats, only the rafts. I think IABL is using a beta version that was never released.

I haven't played enough since getting L&D v4 to know what all is included and what isn't.

I've been spending all my time tweaking and refining conning tower emblems. "Playing" has been reduced to saving a new .tga file, loading the game, looking at the boat in ship/external cam, and exiting again to do more tweaking.

So basically I'm too busy having the crew paint and repaint the conning tower emblem to sink any ships. It has to be JUST RIGHT, dammit. :O:

Is the small moon mod Venatore's? Cuz I think at least one of the environmental mods includes it. I know one of the ones I was playing with did, or at least the moon looked like it did, and I'd disabled the Small Moon Mod to see whether or not I would still need it.

You know the most annoying part was saving a new version of the file, reloading the game, starting a patrol, waiting for that to load, then finding out we were setting out at half past midnight when it was too damn DARK to see what anything looked like. :damn:

Last patrol got jumped by enemy destroyers while stalking a convoy....
Made it back alive..bearly.
Two of my very experienced crew dead and two wounded.
0 tons sunk.

Got hit by deadly accurate cannon fire while diving and then depth charged.
Lucy me the bottom was above crash depth so i was able to control the flooding siting there till destroyers left.
Then blew the ballast and and somehow surfaced.

I've got an ATI card too, and got the new version with the ATI sun fix - its working great for me.

I thought it looked like Rik007's water.
I am using RIK007 SH5 Water v0.9 and it looks great.
The reason I asked is because my stormy conditions do not look quite as good as in your shot HW3, so I thought you may have added another mod on top of it.
My water looks quite a bit more saturated than that.
Maybe it's because I am using an LCD?

Anyway, like I said, thanks for the feedback HW3 and Frau :up:

That ship I sunk turned out to be neutral. Damnit, the flag looked French in the dark. Belgian I guess.
I am now averaging 1 neutral large merchant sunk per patrol, first one was Norwegian. :oops:

Aside from a very few rescue ships?
Standing Orders were to sail on.
It sounds cruel.
But in times such as they were?
It was the only way to get the goods where they needed to go.

Sometimes they didn't specially in the misted of a convoy battle with a wolf pack ships were given the order to scatter and DDs did all they could to hunt down uboats. For a ship to sit still while rescuing sailors was tantamount to suicide might as well paint a bulls-eye on your hull...

Some convoys did have designated rescue ships that would bring up the rear, and, if they had the opportunity, escorts would try to pick up survivors. That said, any ship that stopped to pick people up out of the water was an easy target for a u-boat that managed to escape detection and was still close-by.

On a related note, I once torpedoed a merchant and the one behind him stopped right alongside for about five minutes. I was amazed. Recorded in my log that he was picking up survivors, and I let him go.

I've been looking at the various nodes created by the lifeboat mods & Racerboy's effects - it would be a simple matter to spawn a static rescue ship, Sunderland, or Catalina after a sinking to "rescue" the survivors. I could also make it disappear after a predetermined time. That should ease your conscience. :D It's just a matter of finding time to do these things.

Type IID the Channel, 1940. Pestered by a patrol boat, so had a pop at it with the aa gun and reported the contact, within a few minutes a couple of stukas turned up:

I just put on Thomsens water, looks good but I wan't to see if there is something better. (and hopefully in 16k)

I have Seasonal Wave Heights turned on in Commander.
Makes the rough weather look really good.

Spent my last 2 torpedoes on this Granville.
One of 'em bounced off the hull.
Had no flak ammo left, as I had used it finishing off my coastal freighter (see above).
Shadowed the bugger for 3 hours, but he just refused to go down.
I was not happy letting this one go.

Also it's interesting that TDC gauges are added to the periscope view.

Hovering over a dial enlarges it.

That damn net did a L-shaped loop, as I play without external cam I forgot that I had turned it on for pics so I rammed that net hard. I hit it at flank speed to avoid being depth charged and it surfaced the boat, but I managed to reverse-dive and save my sub from to much damage. So that damage pic was after I repaired most of the damage as I was in deep concentration :o

After I escaped I just took the most conveinient route possible with led me to another net but I was expecting it so I took a look through the obs scope and seen it just ahead. Funny thing about that was the depth was over 170m so I just dived under and then back to 20m, but then a mine field was just past but they were at least 30-40m deep so I was kind of confused:hmmm:
