I was wondering how some of you managed to make your shots look so aged and black and white. Is there a program i can DOWNLOAD to make the shots look like that? Or do i have to by some software. The only PHOTOshop think i have is paintshop and IFRANVIEW.. WHich isnt much. KODAK Picture Viewing isnt great either..

Dowly
04-08-06, 04:45 AM
I dont know how the infranview works.
But try this (I´m not sure if this works on infranview):

1. Turn the image to B&W
2. Blur the image alittle
3. Add noise (Just alittle bit)
4. Blur again to blend the noise to the picture
5. Make new layer and paint some scratshes and dust to it
6. blur the scratshes

I dont use this method anymore, but as you dont have photoshop, my current method wont work.

And here´s the aged photo:

I want you so much to tell me how you did that!

i use photohop and paint shop.
resize the screenshot, either use hi-spot plug in (free) to turn to b&w/sepia or image/mode/greyscale in photoshop 7.
then still in photoshop i go to filter/texture/grain and mess around with the vertical/horizontal presets.
then i use paintshop to to draw the scratches and marks(i prefer paintshop for this but doesen't matter)and select each one and use motion blur on them.
then add a little bit of noise and sometimes add blur to the whole picture.
just mess about with em'.
but that hi-spot filter is pretty cool :|\

There is an SCR file that we merged with our campaign (me and the other boat that headed there). It's a little bit bugged, though, since there are constant reports of static carriers, that might need a bit of fixing.

I can't say I saw much traffic there myself, but I never made it to the "hot" area, either :hmm:

Posted more pics there, by the way, like this one:

Thats right, bases are on the LND layer.. SCR layer.. had alot of patrolling escorts near the coastlines. The RND layer, im going to assume is some derivitave of improved convoys. I think IC pretty much left the indian ocean alone. The chanes of a contact report out there, (by default) is REALLY low. I think your chances of picking something up would be somewhere along the SW corner of austrila, or up near the suez canal. Lots of traffic comes out of that area if i remmber the RND layer correctly. I think most of what you'll see is small /coastal merchants. No C2's, C3's liberty ships or the like.

Anyway if your using a different RND layer then some version of IC (where the indian ocean is usualy the "forgotton theater" ), id love to know what your using :D I revamped it once, but made it its own campaign and certainly not realistic.

Ok, IX skippers, test your knowledge of the atlas,

Where did i take these screenshots:

U-184 moves in to reconnoiter a harbor.

http://www.ducimus.net/sh3/harbor_raid_02.jpg
And see's something MOST intresting.

http://www.ducimus.net/sh3/harbor_raid_03.jpg
A torpedo has hit his stern, which dropped his ass into the mud. But that isn't good enough for U-184!

http://www.ducimus.net/sh3/harbor_raid_04.jpg
So we send another torpedo to hit him right in the kisser!

http://www.ducimus.net/sh3/harbor_raid_05.jpg
I suppose the british weren't all too happy about that. This gentleman here had a ringsite seat to a fantastic explosion. Right after this the entire ship went up like a roman candle. The light was so intense, it would have made for a poor screenshot so i didnt take one.

Well i did it in the 40s and what i saw similar was the harbor against the Mountains, i also got the Fidji and a Southampton light Cruiser. That would be the Big Waves mod, which lets you set the wave height to 1.25, 1.5 or 2 times normal.

The easiest way to get it is to use SH3 Commander, which lets you adjust a huge variety of things with one click, as well as a host of other great functions.

I do have Photoshop. Tell me about your current method please!:D

I first use Paint.NET 2.63 and follow the info Dowly posted, and after I am happy with what I have done, save as a JPEG. Then I open up FastStone Image Viewer 2.6 Beta 4, more touch up and may be add a frame to the picture. :D

Lol, check this out. The first torpedo broke her in half, and the second one passed through the hole.

And hit Bismarck and sunk it?? :rotfl::rotfl:

A bit late I have upgraded to Type XXI. That U-Boat U441 had a Type VIIC/4 all flak, unfortunately not much action due to rotten weather in the med 1944. I got some real good under water one's to post when I dig them out, but for now here's one of the XXI on the surface and seeing action.

May 1942. U-701, after terrorrizing the small port of Hartlepool....and sinking almost everything in it... Not much though. A couple of large merchants....three small ones....a destroyer and an armed trawler. I was just beginning to have fun with the deck gun when 5 planes appeared out of nowhere and flooded me heavily.... I spent almost two hours at the bottom of the harbour after that.

Look what they did to my baby

I remember how it was a much smaller topic when I first joined, a mere 16 pages!:arrgh!:

I'd like some feedback on this one, as it is my first attempt at making something that "should" look like a real WWII screenshot.
