@Brewster: Still image taken from a video that shows the control room of a uboat as it crashdives. They dive in a very steep angle, looks like almost 45 degrees. Tho, they didnt really dive, the camera is just rotated as the depth gauge shows that they are on the surface. :oops:

Nice going there in Scapa, Stabiz. I'm curious, from the looks of it, it appears that you sunk a destroyer (I don't have the recognition manual in front of me at the moment, but it looks like a V & W to me), a coastal merchant, and a C3 cargo, all keelbusted. Did you sink anything else there?

April 10th 1940, U-27 returns from her 3rd patrol. Notice the deformed stern caused by a British destroyer which rammed the boat during the patrol. The destroyer wasnt the only threat they encountered out there. RAF harrassed the boat and it´s crew with deadly hit and run attacks. The attacks cost the life of Bootsmann Herbert Kriegel.

It is rumoured that captain of the boat, Kpt.Ltn. Adolf Bummer II declined to attend the welcoming party and that he ordered his crew to do so also. When later asked why, he said "Is it right that we go and party, when he (Kriegel) lies in the coffin waiting to be layed to his final rest?".

This was by far the most succesfull patrol of U-27, she sunk 9 enemy vessels for estimated 30,000grt and shot down a British Swordfish type aircraft.

Yap...GW. I was just north of Scapa :)...when I encountered it. It had the stock game skin, and some planes attacked us. She fired her AA's also, and we defended each other. She was also firing her deck-gun...LOL ? :D. It was a very nice moment.

Its only stock Grey Wolves! I didnt report anything either, so the planes showed up on their own. That is so cool. I was working my ass off on slow running in the harbour, when I suddenly heard explotions and shooting all around. It really freaked me out, since I couldnt see what was shooting, and why large explotions detonated around me, and sometimes a good distance away. I didnt understand before the first german aircraft smashed into the harbour in pieces.

Cool with the subnets as well. This one really essed up my paint job:

U-27 had lost her port diesel and the radio antenna was badly damaged. Also, it would take hours to pump up all the water from the torpedo room. Notice that the bow is lower in the water, because of the water pushing it down in the torp room.

No signs of surrender were seen so the DD´s opened fire and sank the uboat. 4 survivors were picked from the sea. Prior to this U-27 had participated in 4 patrols and had sunk 20 ships worth over 65,000grt.

I first did some tweaking to fade the colors a tad and then used a grain filter as well as some lighting adjustments to complete the old time look.

I was on patrol off the coast of Ireland, when i spotted something i`ve never seen before: A convoy of uboats type IIA! I use GW mod ++, but i`ve never seen anything like it..

Can someone tell me if this is a "dangerous" german wolfpack :D...? and if it is, why the H*** is it consisting of type IIA`s???

What year is that steed as i met a couple in 1940 in my VIIB and my gunner was very bad he only fired one full burst at the plane with no luck. The gun took so long to reload the plane was more or less out of effective firing range by the time he was ready to fire again.:damn:

catar M i also have GW1.1a and see lots of planes. What TC do you play with?
I find up to 128 is best if you want to see planes anything over that and you seem to miss them. Hope this helps.

If I'm close to coast 32-128 but if I have to go to US coast it's max.Maybe I'm not in right place at right time

Intresting, i try to go everywhere at 128 max.
Have seen many planes and im only in june of 1940. even saw some on my frist patrol when i went through the channel in 1939.
If you go higher than this you miss planes thats what i have learned.
All i can say is try going at 128max for one patrol and see if any pop up?

Could anyone point me in the direction of a good freeware program to play around with my screenshots. As my current program free trial has ended.
I made quite good experiences with the GNU Image Maipulation Program (http://www.gimp.org/). It's something like an "Open Source Photoshop". Unfortunately this makes it's usage a bit uncomfortable (and is best used with a dual-head monitor-setup).

If you just want to add some effects and frames to your screenshots without all the layer-stuff, the less complex PhotoFiltré (http://www.photofiltre.com/) might be your program of choice. It's the program I use for manipulating my screenshots atm.
It lets you apply basic filters, alas without much control over the result. But then again, this makes it quite easy to use. In the mean time here is one i took a while ago.

The max. allowed filesize for imagehack is 1024 kb, but SH3-screens are 2300 kb large. So after manipulating your screenshot don't click "save" (saves in same format as original -> huge .bmp), but "save as..." from the "file menu". Then choose "save as .jpg" and your pictures should become much samller.

Dann klappts auch mit den Nachbarn :D

Kleiner Tip am Rande:
The next time use "Filters>Soften>Antialias". Makes the pic look a bit more real by softening the sharp edges of the 3d-objects in the pics.

Here is a couple of my favourites.

I call this one "SURPRISE". Basically I crippled a Flower Corvette and while the destroyer in the background was busy looking for me. I then sneaked up and surfaced to the opposite side of the Corvette. Once surfaced the Destoryer started to pound the Corevette thinkin it was me :). Of course the Corvette was trying to get me but it was pointless as I was too close. Once the Corvette took a few hits from the Destoryer it returned fire at the Destroyer. I then slowly slipped beneath the water level and let them battle it out :). Of course the Destroyer won but not before the Corvette managed to disable the Destroyer. So once the Destroyer was disabled I sailed on over towards it and fired off a torpedo to finish it off. It sure was alot of fun that scenario.

This second image and scenario I call "You Can't Touch Me". Basically in this battle I came across a massive convoy. I managed to sink a few ships but the Luxury Liner I only disabled :(. Of course by this time I was out of torpeddoes and the Destroyers were desperatly trying to get me as you can see from the following image. So what I ended up doing was sailing over to the Luxury Liner and positioning myself directly under it. Once I was directly under it I went into silent running and dived to max depth. After a little while the Destroyers gave up on trying to get me and sailed off to join the rest of the convoy. Once they were out of sight I then positioned myself and sank the Luxury Liner :). Then as my luck would have it. One of the dam destroyers returned out of now where and tried to get me. But I manage to slip away again and return safely home :).

The third image and scenario I call "Taking The Sting Out Of The Flying Porcupines". Basically its just having lots of fun shooting down the Sunderland aircraft. I dont know why some people get scared of them and dive. I just set my speed to flank and keep changing course while I am attacking and shooting them down :).. Its one of the best parts of the game IMO :).

Thanks Finnbat I have many more and I also lost some real good ones too.. I had one where I had shot down a Sunderland which became a fireball and it missed my U-Boat by millimeters. It was one of my favourites but I had a HDD crash and I lost all my SH3 images so I wasnt very happy :(...

But to answer your question I always seem to get squadrons of them. In one battle I had wave after wave after wave of them.. Lucky I used the ammo mod to give me more flak gun ammumition as I shot down well over 150 of the buggers.

I think the trick is if they do come across you shoot down all of them bar one. As the one remaining will radio through for reinforcements. But if you have good guns and use the ammo mod they dont have a chance :).

Just watch out for the Catalinas though they seem to be more deadlier with their payloads :(... So you have to shoot them down first or do some fancy nancy steering to avoid them..

I usually find alot of them around the Brest area as well as around England and Ireland. But sometimes you can be in the middle of no where and they just appear. So it can be random. Usually I save the game as soon as they appear so I can go back and play the battle again :).

I once also had a group of them follow me back to port at Brest. It was also funny to see them attack the other ships in the area.
