Turns out when those Q-ships sink, they sink HARD. I hit this one in the stern cargo hold, and the resulting ammunition detonations snapped the ship in half.

EDIT: D'OH! Was supposed to go into humorous thread.
So, I'm on my second patrol using GWX/SH3C and im beginning to wonder how the new weather mods will look, as my first patrol had very mild weather.
Well.......
Bernard's now puking all over the sub, and it ain't his cooking this time. 3-4 days of this so far, and just as the war starts too! Hard to find contacts when your lookouts you tied to the bridge have all drowned, and there aren't any more volunteers.
Well the boat got into a harmonic with the waves, and it would go from 15m+ down and pop up to a boat height or two above the waves.
I've been running submerged as long as possible, but i gotta get fresh air eventually. Running at flank speed only gets a few knots at best usually.

I myself saw a German trawler sink once in very bad weather. We passed it off the German coast and they seemed to be doing fine - then about an hour later, the sunk ship icon appeared on the map. Pretty eerie to know that stuff like this did (and still does) happen at sea.

The rest (ice bergs) you can find - for example - in LSH3.

Screenies are in the SH3 folder as .BMP files, firstly open them in a program that can then save them as .JPG, upload that to a photo hosting site - I use flickr with no problems - then some site allow you to grab BB code for use in forum, I usually right click the pic and select view image so it's the only thing on the page, copy the url of this into the add image box that comes up when you click Reply, and it's a yellowy square on the bottom row towards the right, above the text box.
I'm sure there is an easier way though. :D

Thats Spain right?
For full realism ,hell no. Too much of chance of spain kicking the supply ship sout of their ports if we attack her. Last thing Germany needs is Spain pissed off too.
Poor tonnage though, it sure is tempting.

Let's say an "hard" exchange of views between the Bf 110 and some extremely well trained gunners of a cargo...
The interesting thing is that,after that the aircraft has been hit while he was very close to his intended target,,he crash exactly on the bridge of the cargo ship.Unfortunately (from a point of view the crew)the cargo ship was carrying ammunitions and she explode immediatly.
I have the suspect that this could be intended as some sort of revenge by the pilot of the Bf 110...:hmmm:

Are those converted SH4 ships? How did you get them into the campaign?
Hi rowi58,

@BUKER,
yes, there is another unit at Penang, patrolling the south entrance. Both units are simple AI-Boats. You can d/l them here at "subsim" (search for "Miner1436"), but the boat is made for SH4 - so you need to convert it to SH3.
@Arael,
yes, these are converted SH4 units. You can find them on the d/l pages of "Molke2005_yamatoforever" or "Trainer1942_Nautilus42". Or scan the FTP server of "plissken04":
ftp://maikhaas.dyndns.org/Volume_1/Sharing/SH3COMMUNITYMODS/
There you'll find most of all converted SH4 units.

Feb 1940. Outside of Gibraltar, came across an ore carrier doing about 6 knots. Unarmed. Perfect deck gun target, if you're insane.
I am, so I surfaced. Note that it is broad daylight, within view of the heavy gun emplacements on shore (circled in red).

It must have had a full cargo of explodium or something, because it only took a few rounds. Which is good, seeing how I narrowly avoided getting blown out of the water myself...

My radio and FlaK were destroyed by DC's, so I headed home. The Nelson and Cyclops collier made a good haul, though.

You're fine as long as seawater still drips down in when you pop the hatch. Once on my old Type II we popped the hatch and about 35 gallons of blood poured in. No one knows where it came from, and on that patrol some of the men reported hearing a young girl's voice muttering gibberish at them in an accusing tone. Half the crew deserted after that one.

That is the case, but see, this convoy was smart. They surrounded these two innocent liners, and corralled them into the center columns, knowing that, as 42k ton a piece high value targets, they would be the first to get shot, giving them time to high-tail it out of the area.
Looks like their tactics worked! :haha:

Lol yeah, especially towards the end when the losses were just plain embarrassing. Would've been cool to see if the planes had any flak damage on if. The torpedo damage mod doesn't seem to reflect onto planes (as far as I can see so far).

Why the sad face next to 64 dead, and yet the next victim lost 409 souls? Personally I'd rather have been incinerated within seconds than set adrift with flotsam for company for days (if really unlucky), or worse - a liferaft full of slowly diminishing colleagues, until my own agonising death!
Now I'm depressed, I'll have my own sad face now... :cry:

In fact I launched the two torps and headed away to avoid them. As you can see the weather was so clear and visibility was unlimited.

I call this maneuver "Tickling the Dragon's Tail," (the name refers to fooling around with nuclear reactor cores almost ready to go critical). I do it when a destroyer or some other ASW boat is disabled but still deadly. Here, you can see the Clemson is down by the stern and dead in the water. I cannot surface for obvious reasons and I don't want to waste another torpedo... I try to trick it into depth charging the surface, damaging it more.

He's right, though. They took the flag down the minute they left friendly territory. If you had to crash dive you wouldn't have time to have somebody run back and unclip the flag, and carry it below, which would have been disrespectful. So they never flew it where there was the remotest chance of combat.

@BUKER
Nice shots
@Vendor
A very nice sum of warships tonnage here.
Were all these in one TF or more?
I have never seen two carriers together before!

Watching a BB go down is the most satisfying thing to watch (second only watch a flat top go down) and just beautiful to watch it list, drag its tail or roll over as it sinks. Fortunate for us our torpedoes work during Narvik, with so many warships around and plenty of places to hide it can be devilishly fun :arrgh!:

I cannot agree with this more. HMS Nelson? Nope, just an upturned keel going down fast.

Without even going to google translate, I'm guessing that says something like "Full speed ahead! Man the guns! Open fire at will!"
EDIT: close: "All full forward. Left full rudder. They are ready to attack!" per google.
