Strange things at start of a patrol:
An Airplane or 'hydroplane' circling around and on fire :stare: :
The captain will court martialed for sure:
I would guess you saved in or too close to port
Causes AI unit to " lose " waypoints and basically fubar

@ TarJack--- on that last convoy shot. I'm assuming you "bronzed" it or is that one of those fleeting moments when the sky conditions became just right?
A few times at dawn or night the ol'e game can produce some almost realalistic sky shots.

A few times at dawn or night the ol'e game can produce some almost realalistic sky shots.LOL yes Google Picasa helps a lot! The first two are natural SH3 colours. The 3rd is increased glow, saturation and a touch more colour warmth, adjusted using Picasa.

Thanks PC. I try to look at the shots from a photographers point of view and think about the framing of the subject, the lighting etc. This particular shot is one I really like and have posted it unedited. I took about 5 shots with the waves tossing the boat about a bit and this was the best one as the bot dropped into a trough between two big waves.
And yes I've got the old 256mb Nvidia 7900GS tweaked using Rubini's nhancer settings optimised for SH3 & 4.

Thanks gents. The foreground shot is an old one with a few additional editing around the props to give a propwash effect and of course the dial added for dramatic effect. subtelty is the key to this one although I could perhaps notch up the gauge a little more to make it stand out better.

One problem with the title "Death of a Legend": the only reason the ship became a legend was because she died. Hardly anybody cares about the sister who was torpedoed later, and nobody at all cares about the one that survived.

But wasn't Britannic mined, not torpedoed?... Those big boats do have a penchant for running into things.
As for Olympic...hey, if you listen to some crackpot theories, then it was she who sunk in 1912, while Titanic was secretly renamed and was disguised as her.:ping: Something involving a conspiracy, an insurance scam, and probably time-traveling government agents chasing aliens.:D

One problem with the title "Death of a Legend": the only reason the ship became a legend was because she died. Hardly anybody cares about the sister who was torpedoed later, and nobody at all cares about the one that survived.
:rotfl:
Now there's some points worthy of future discussion :hmm:
Preferably over a beer in October ;)
But wasn't Britannic mined, not torpedoed?... Those big boats do have a penchant for running into things.
As for Olympic...hey, if you listen to some crackpot theories, then it was she who sunk in 1912, while Titanic was secretly renamed and was disguised as her.:ping: Something involving a conspiracy, an insurance scam, and probably time-traveling government agents chasing aliens.:D
to quote Homer Simpson: "oh it's so simple!.... wait no it's not it's needlessly complicated"

The former! It's summer 1942 and BDU have sent me over the pond for the first time since I restarted in sept/39 (after GWX 2.1 came out). They've got me patrolling US waters which are only 40m deep, but fortunatly the area seems to be inhabited by nothing more threatening than armed tankers.

Thanks Jim, good video - I like the way it lands on the ocean then sinks. I wouldn't be surprised if that required some wizardry. I don't plan to shoot it (now I know it's armed!) but out of curiosity... I noticed it vanished before it'd finished sinking... was that fixed before release or does it still do that?

I am sure, and one of the things that led to the Hindenburg disaster was the fact that the United States owned the helium market. Not as light as hydrogen, but absolutely stable. So, no boom-boom, just holey blimp and no more floaty-floaty.

BUT!!
To maintain flight it depended on it's Engines.
Much like any aircraft.
Take the engines out?
It goes down!!

I am sure, and one of the things that led to the Hindenburg disaster was the fact that the United States owned the helium market. Not as light as hydrogen, but absolutely stable. So, no boom-boom, just holey blimp and no more floaty-floaty.
I think it would run out of floaty stuff after it gets a hole in it.:D
That's what I said.
Or at least what I meant. Of course, if you hit the gondola with the deck gun it could be pretty impressive.

Deadly impressive
Reading the articles from the link posted couple of posts ago, I'd think the Submarines were mostly winning these fights.
I mean, c'mon. Its big, its slow. And it's damn easy to spot (a big buble in the middle of the sky)

@Kipparikalle, thanks. Yep edited but as well as adding colour I got rid of the colour by using focal B&W to grey out the surrounds and make the sun stand out more. Kinda the point of the composition.
This is it unedited:
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa54/TarJak/SHOT3851-1.jpg
Thought it looked a little dull without a quick edit.:D
And another unedited shot which has some nice colour and glare in it:

And whilst I'm at it here is my Subsim "album cover" shot:

Heavily edited with lots of colour saturation highlight and glow with added lens flare.

Definitivley NO. LSH3 is a so called "Super MOD" too - like GWX. But you can use single ships out of this MOD with your installation of SH3 - see also the "Community Ships", there are many ships from LSH3.

@MyXale
It was somewhere in or near AM, I forget where exactly. It was in a convoy.
@Steve
Actually it was a 90AOB shot - unusually innacurate by my standards. :smug:/:oops:
I was 2.5km away from it when I fired, but that's not a big range for such a big target. I know I got the course and speed right, so I must have miscalculated the range. At 2.5km (ish) that mast is hard to see.
But a hit is a hit.
Interestingly her entourage completely deserted her after that hit (or more specifically, she deserted them and they carried on along their course). I cought up with her that night. She was all alone, limping towards the nearest port. I put her out of her misery.
A good result, especially as my patrol up to that point had been completely disastrous. Duds, premy's, and worst of all... misses! :o
I must be out of practice. :arrgh!:

Install via JSGME...it is a unit type 11 and is only rostered to appear in a British flag.
Whenever the game engine calls for a British BB there is a % chance it will be her.

Taking nothing away from the quality of the shot  ....but your not portraying an accurate assessment unless you notify people of your system specs. (if you've done that elsewhere, fair enough....I've only seen said screenshot on this thread).
Over at GWX we have tinkered with particle density etc. on a myriad of things but only the high end spec machines are able to cope without a massive FPS drop or even in some cases a CTD.
I suspect there are many people out there with low to mid level machines.

i attacked him head on, ran 3 miles at 40knots directly in front of his nose, then shot from 800m.....he hit me two or three times.....but didn't damage any important hardware :)
maybe he thought i was the type IIA my S-100 was built upon ;)

Would look a lot better without the FPS notification. http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/pirate.gif
But without it, how would you know how much fps am I getting with the mod?
Its a purpose screenshot, to show the performance vs the visuals. I took it from my thread.
I'll get a new one, clean, for the next.

You're right. People with better machines are already getting used to SH4. The ones with bad taste, at least.
I'm getting more than 60 fps with this mod, but as I have v-sync on, it keeps locked to my monitor frequency, which is 60hz. But I think I'm getting something around 90-120 fps.
My specs are:
Core 2 duo E4700
4 GB ddr2 800 2x2 dual channel
500gb sata2
geforce 9600gt 512mb XFX.
There's a lot of people with better specs then this playing sh3. But I agree with you that the majority of people have specs close to gwx's recommended.
This mod will only take a bit more of graphics and a little more cpu.

Im getting 60+ with this mod with and without ships/convoys. The only time I get under 40 fps is when in harbor.:yep:

Great posters there IBL:up:
Are those lifeboats going to be available with your merchant mod pack?
Probably not b/c the lifeboat mod isn't my work originally. Plus I don't know how to do moving figures. However, if the creators want to develop it further that would be great. :hmm:
And lovely shots, everyone - especially mr chris. The sky looks amazing.

Thanks, but actually what you posted there was a "bug" in SH3 which I've been unable to fix! :damn:
The OLCE2 sky only looks like that in the middle of a weather transition. The other 99% of the time it looks "as intended". But if you liked it, then maybe it doesn't need "fixing" at all! ;)
