It would have dwarfed the invasion of France, drowned the memory of Normandy Beach in blood.
Out near Catalina Island, in the waters off California, young George McCullough, a 19-year-old naval ensign out of Texas, was learning to sail a secret boat.
The boat, called a GIMIK, was meant to take an American pilot and two Koreans onto the shores of Japan, where the Koreans would be sent out as spies. The American pilot would take the boat back to the submarine from which it was launched. If he could.

The very one :) Effectively the US Navy's first aircraft carrier, if you are willing to stretch the definition of "aircraft", and one of the earliest balloon carriers in history.
USS George Washington Parke Custis, originally a coal barge, launched an obervation balloon on Nov 11, 1861, which was used to observe Confederate forces in the forests of Virginia.

nice one! I was looking for "balloon barges of the "Potomac flotilla" when I figured the copper containers must contain balloon hydrogenBalloons were normally inflated with city gas when it was available, as in Washington and Richmond. In the field, Thaddeus Lowe designed and the Navy Yard constructed special inflation wagons. Charged with dilute sulfuric acid and iron filings, they generated hydrogen. but came up with zilch. https://www.battlefields.org/sites/default/files/styles/wysiwyg_third/public/thumbnails/image/george_washington_parke_custis.jpg?itok=qoN87Ujv View of the George Washington Parke Custis operating a Civil War balloon from its decks. https://www.battlefields.org/learn/articles/civil-war-ballooning screw or paddlewheel(s) driven? https://www.modelshipmaster.com/products/civil_war/custis/George%20Washington%20Parke%20Custis%20ship%20repl ica.jpg< some model-makers apparently differ on the screw issue??!!:timeout: https://www.modelshipmaster.com/products/civil_war/custis/First%20balloon%20reconnaissance%20ship.jpg:arrgh! :

That is the question I was fearful of :):03:
One was built with parts produced for more, only the first one built actually flew and the others were not assembled.

I'm pretty bad with women, and have been single for quite some time now.
Jim said it was flown by the RAF, so this basically means Commonwealth nations / former colonies. It wasn't Canada and larger than South Africa, which basically leaves only India and Australia, and I knew that HAL licence-built aircraft during WWII, so I only had to look whether they actually produced own designs as well.
Anyway, a new one, and I guess it's easy:

Exactly :Kaleun_Salute:
https://i.ibb.co/xshmLLR/012u-N1w-Xv-Dma.jpg
Why this one? As a kid I had a card game of (then) modern warships, and this game was played by comparing technical data printed onto the cards. Sleipner was the worst of all the ships included (the best was a Nimitz class carrier, the fastest PHM Pegasus). So, as a little tribute to times long gone, I chose this one.
