Not British.

08-24-23, 01:20 PM
Afraid not but an ally.
Ostfriese
08-24-23, 11:37 PM
Looks like a Phalanx CIWS, but they are used by so many navies it'll be quite hard to determine the actual ship.
Jimbuna
08-25-23, 06:42 AM
Wasn't intended to be easy but you are the closest yet.

Aktungbby
08-25-23, 09:13 PM
frigate or corvette?
Ostfriese
08-26-23, 12:16 AM
Centurion C-RAM is land-based, so the "vessel" in question should be a truck or a trailer of sorts, but does anyone beside the US already use C-RAM? The Israelis, maybe?
Jimbuna
08-26-23, 04:14 AM
Centurion C-RAM?
Sorry Jeff, on further inspection all I can confirm is it is a 1 x 20 mm Phalanx CIWS but what precise designation I can't honestly say.
Greek?
Not Greek but you are close.
Jimbuna
08-26-23, 04:16 AM
frigate or corvette?
Two guesses there but in view of where we are currntly at....neither :)
Centurion C-RAM is land-based, so the "vessel" in question should be a truck or a trailer of sorts, but does anyone beside the US already use C-RAM? The Israelis, maybe?

This was a nice one. I thought it to be french all the time.. nice attempt for aerodynamic design and already in 1914! :o
"1914 A.L.F.A. 40/60 HP Aerodinamica Prototype. Italian Count Mario Ricotti of Milan commissioned Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Castagna to build the protoype, which resembled the airships of the era."
By a company A.L.F.A. that later added the 'Romeo' and built some of the most beautiful cars :)
Jeff-Groves
08-27-23, 02:20 PM
Yes. Interesting Car. The original one was lost I guess so in 1970 Alfa Romero reproduced one for their museum.

Crinoids have been on earth since eras, they "are marine animals belonging to the phylum Echinodermata and the class Crinoidea. They are an ancient fossil group that first appeared in the seas of the mid Cambrian, about 300 million years before dinosaurs. They flourished in the Palaeozoic and Mesozoic eras and some survive to the present day. Although sometimes different in appearance from their fossil ancestors, living forms provide clues about how fossil crinoids must have lived."

You go to Google Image, also called Google lens
https://images.google.com/
(still not sure whether this is exactly the same) and upload a picture to the site. It then uses different algorithms for comparison and displays the most likely results and 'hits'.
But of course you know that, nice try :O:

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/55/APS_underwater_rifle_REMOV.jpg A needlegun, also known as a needler, flechette gun or fletcher, is a firearm that fires small, sometimes fin-stabilized, metal darts or flechettes. Theoretically, the advantages of a needlegun over conventional projectile firearms are in its compact size, high rate of fire, and extreme muzzle velocity. The needle presents less frontal area than a bullet, producing less drag and thus more effective range (especially in water) than a wider projectile of the same mass and velocity. There have been experiments to make guided flechettes that can home in on targets. When it comes to... guided"fleshettes":yeah: :arrgh!: :Kaleun_Party:https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/picture.php?albumid=815&pictureid=10044:O:

Unfortunately , in my haste to present a new puzzle, merely asked "what is this?" without necessarily asking what specific species; and, as it is in fact "a bug", I must turn over the victory palm to Jeff, who answered correctly...first! Over to Jeff!:Kaleun_Salute:

09-10-23, 05:05 PM
Coca Cola lorry? https://www.adbranch.com/wp-content/uploads/coca_cola_delivery_truck_knoxville-610x403.png It is a Coca-Cola lorry way back when there was a little Coca plant extract in the Coca Cola(bean) formula 1908. It is described a being driven in Knoxville TN. IMHO: The tank under the lorry could be for a steam motor lorry which is what Foden built at that time, turning to petrol in the '30's. Over to Misanthrope birthday boy!:Kaleun_Salute: In response to your Foden inquirey and my re-examination of my puzzle's photo; You may be right about it being a Foden lorry although my photo's front logo is very fuzzy and my computer is giving me fits due to my Norton Security protection that stops me at every turn!:Kaleun_Mad: I think it's a Packard though?? https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSNF5sdKmVCGAuV22XfRDBjb-NFnG9pmYcxEnJFMJfV6ciswWrzdKK2yGCoDguBsNOff3Y&usqp=CAU https://live.staticflickr.com/8513/8521972072_1c3e1589be_b.jpg https://www.adbranch.com/coca-cola-old-delivery-trucks/coca-cola_delivery_truck_1908/
