No, on sea. Though it could roll out of the water under own power, with a special 'carriage'.
As mentioned before it is not a sailing boat, though it could also swim and sail.

You get: The Rohrbach Ro III was a twin-engined, all-metal flying boat built in Germany in the mid-1920s. A development of the Ro II, it could be configured either as an airliner or a reconnaissance aircraft. It was developed into the similar but more powerful Ro IIIa Rodra (Ro + dr(ei) + a), intended only as a military reconnaissance/bomber. Four Ro IIIs were bought by Japan and two Rodras by Turkey. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/5e/Bundesarchiv_Bild_102-10799%2C_Deutsches_Wasserflugzeug_in_t%C3%BCrkisch er_Marine.jpg Four Ro IIIs were delivered to Japan in 1925 as Rohrbach R-1s. Two of these had their original 270 kW (360 hp) Eagles engines replaced by 340 kW (450 hp) Hispano-Suiza or Lorraine 12E Courlis engines, and were re-designated R-2 and R-3. At least one Ro III appeared on the Japanese civil register as J-BHAE and was used by the Japan Airline Co. Mitsubishi bought a licence to build Rohrbach aircraft in Japan but it seems not to have been used.
Two Rodras were sold to the Turkish Navy and based at Smyrna. After four years of operation, they were given a lengthy examination by the German aviation authorities, who found them in good order and with no safety problems.[1]
Two Rodras were bought by and tested by the RAF at Martlesham Heath. I dyslexically miscounted there were only 8 sold; not nine. I actually saw this looking for a WWW puzzle over ten years ago; but figured if two were sold to the RAF Jimbuna would get it
too quickly. I just couldn't flash on where I'd seen one till the Turkish markings on the empennage turned up

Catfish
01-30-25, 09:52 PM
^ This is it of course :)

It was built to start and land on the high seas, and bad weather. It was tested with different engines and while it had excellent features and capabilities, there was not much interest at the time.
Two were sent to Turkey, and four to Japan.

...tends to alert someone with Ost in their :subsim: moniker!:O::Kaleun_Party::()1:

Ostfriesland (Eastern Frisia) is actually further west than Nordfriesland (Northern Frisia), and to make it even more fun Ostfriesland is actually in the very northwest of Germany.

Anyway, I read this thread even if no celestial directions are mentioned :D

Here we go with the next one:

For better viewability (is that the right word?) this picture has been enlarged, it would have been as small as a typical Jimbuna-picture otherwise :D

It's not easy to answer this question properly.

I tend to say "yes", but you'd have to really stretch the definition of "to use" here. It has, however, definitely something to do with a leisure activity, even though this also requires a bit of stretching.

Not "puppet", but "show" is not a bad direction.

Not in the original design; AFAIK, but I wouldn't be completely surprised if there were smaller copies which require batteries. Still, I'm not certain about this.

Toy versions of it have been produced, yes, and I wouldn't rule out that toy versions which require batteries have been made and sold, but as I said I don't know for sure.

Indeed, the oak processionary (Eichenprozessionsspinner in German, a language which allows unlimited connection of nouns :D) has been a plague for quite some time over here, and even in my region in the north it is fought with nets over trees and insecticides sprayed from helicopters.

If only it was that funny. My company and I have sued a certain German online portal which spews fake news, conspiracy theories, right-wing bull**** and other crap(there's a good chance you have read something from them because a certain somebody has a tendency to link their "articles" here).
That online portal has repeatedly misquoted my company's press releases as well as my scientific work, and has created a plethora of lies around these "misquotes", which have caused a lot of trouble over the past years and which have been one of the reasons why I switched projects a few years ago. Today the verdict was announced, which means it has finally come to an end and I can at least talk about this. Let's just say they have been ordered to pay quite a sum in damages, and if they have any spark of common sense left they will never mention anything regarding my company again.

Anyway, you want new fodder, and I hope I won't disappoint:
