Catfish

with this it must be a heavy tank.

Smaller than the 'stomer' with such armament, and tracked.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-61482305

I do not find any such vehicle at all :haha:

Aktungbby
07-31-22, 11:46 AM
Not if its smaller than a Stormer; I've looked at Sultans, Scimitars, Spartans, & variants therof. Each is either used by more than 5 countries: has only a machine gun with top rocket carrier (5 or more) or has more than 3 crewmen...:hmmm:

Catfish
07-31-22, 12:41 PM
Any 'Warrior' version is also not smaller than a 'Stormer'
The BMP VERDI-2 never made it in production.

FV 103 Spartan?

FV120 Spartan MCT ?
Also used by UK, so.. probably not.

Now watching the rest of the Wembley football :03:

Allow me to take you back to #497

The million dollar question being "What is the vehicle"

The Wikipedia page on this vehicle only mentions four countries of use and I know for a fact a fifth country purchased a great many and unfortunately the picture I chose is from said country which just so happens to have fitted missiles whereas I'm not sure the other four countries fitted on their vehicles.

So technically, it could be argued that said vehicle is usually fitted with two offensive weapon systems.

I can assure you there was no intent to deceive but in hindsight I now wish I'd posted a picture clue of an example in original configuration.

They are a pioneer species; able to populate a new environment; and can withstand anything incl. empty space, radiation etc. that would kill most lifeforms. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/39/P-75_Eagle_at_WPAFB.jpg/1280px-P-75_Eagle_at_WPAFB.jpg INDEED! over 2 U!:salute: Powered by a V-3420-19 24-cylinder engine rated at 2,600 hp (1,900 kW) driving co-axial contra-rotating propellers, the XP-75 flew for the first time on 17 November 1943. The second XP-75 flew shortly thereafter, with all six long-range XP-75s entering the test program by the spring 1944. The test program brought up numerous teething problems, including miscalculation of the fighter's center of mass, failure of the engine to produce its expected power, inadequate engine cooling, high aileron forces at high speed, and poor spin characteristics. Redesigns were introduced into the long-range XP-75s including a modified tail assembly, new "bubble" canopy, and a V-3420-23 engine that corrected most of the deficiencies by the time the first P-75A Eagles entered flight testing in September 1944.

By this time, the Army Air Forces had decided to limit the number of combat aircraft types in production and not enter into large-scale production of new types that might not be available before the war ended. As the twin-engine Lockheed P-38 Lightning and North American P-51 Mustang demonstrated excellent long-range capabilities, the production run of the P-75A Eagle was subsequently terminated on 6 October 1944. It was decided to use the six completed production aircraft for experimental work and development of the V-3420 engine. As a result of those events, the P-75A did not complete formal performance trials due to termination of the production contract. Ultimately, only eight XP-75s and six P-75As were built.

Hmm do you mean the very small horizontal "lever" at the right side of the "arm"? This indeed seems to have been a handle to rotate the whole arm along its axis, though there should be another one to turn or direct it around the vertical axis.

Some hint:
in the early years of aviation there were several ideas taken from animals and plants to develop all kinds of things.
One e.g. was this Zanonia seed used to invent the Etrich Taube's wing, becoming one of the most stable airplanes ever built. The Zanonia copy was an austrian idea (by Mr. Etrich), then stolen by german Mr. Rumpler.
Other countries had other ideas. This is indeed a very strange one.

But you have opened a can of worms considering future quests :haha:

another hint: This "arm" as mapuc called it (located on top) can be moved for control. In one sketch this arm is shown constructed as a vane, but this most probably did not work.
The later version's "arm" we see on picture #1 is constructed with a jet nozzle outlet at the distal end.
I first thought it were hot exhaust gases (this contraption does have an engine) being sent through some kind of exhaust pipe, but most probably not.
Instead it seems air was being used.

Markus
Almost, but the definition of a gyrocopter does not fit. The 'rotor' is not passive.
Sometimes described as a helicopter but this does not fit either.

As said before, the pioneers of aviation often used nature for ideas, like Etrich did with the Zanonia seed.

Big hint: In this case the object also has nature as a guide, like a seed. But not the Zanonia one ..

Even so, the machine was wildly out of balance, and the blade repeatedly contacted the water, damaging itself and shaking up the pilot. In addition, the 80 hp Le Rhone engine used was not powerful enough; the Gyroptere had been designed to use a 100 hp (75 kW) engine which could not be obtained. It helped also that I actually used to watch sycamore seeds swirling as a kid!

The "gyropter" from Papin and Rouilly, an early monocopter,
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monocopter)
called Chrsysalide, idea based on the swinging and rotating sycamore seed.

The engine provided a strong airflow which was directed to the distal end of the big single plane and working like a jet to rotate it, a smaller tube was directed to a movable control "arm" to counter unwanted rotation and steer the thing, also with a (smaller) jet opening:

https://i.imgur.com/IK9ppTxl.jpg

The pilot stood in a circular tub at the center of the centripetal forces, which was standing on roller bearings, while at the upper side was being held by the four bigger wheels that can be seen placed around the tub.
The rest of the apparatus was circling around the tub at a planned 60 rpm.....

https://i.imgur.com/nQMTmLMl.jpg

A one hundred hp rotary LeRhône engine had been planned, and the 80 hp used proved to be too weak, it only provided 47 rpm instead of the needed 60, and the machine weighed 20 percent more than calculated.
The circular bottom part is a float, probably also used to internally distribute the airflow.

M. Papin (the gent in the french uniform seen on some of the photos) tried to start the Chrsysalide from a lake. It did not really take off (maybe saving his life), but sank.

https://i.imgur.com/j2u030hl.jpg

A model of the machine:
http://modelbox.free.fr/analyses/MS2002_10P/SCRH_Papin/index.html

It works as a small drone, electronically controlled for counterbalance.
