According to the United Nations classification it is placed partly in the European continent. While much of its territory lies in Asia, most of its people reside in Europe.
Ethically and politically it does not belong to Europe, especially recent events have made this quite clear.
Hint: Russian.

dive-bomber?
Catfish
12-30-23, 01:06 PM
Afaik it was never actually used as a bomber, but intended as such. By construction it was not intended for dive-bombing. There was also the idea to use a version of it for low-strafing runs with MGs firing down and backwards, but nothing came of it.
It was an unusual plane, very advanced and maybe too much for the time.
Hint: They say there could have been two versions but any info speaks of one plane, changed and improved over time.
Aktungbby
12-30-23, 02:12 PM
down and backwards, WELL, if you have a pilot and down and rear gunners then how is it a 2 man crew?!!
Catfish
12-30-23, 03:36 PM
WELL, if you have a pilot and down and rear gunners then how is it a 2 man crew?!!
As I said nothing came by it.
The second person would aim and release the bombs, in the other proposed version he would have operated the guns.

The statue? This one is not the most famous representation of that woman.
The woman? This is much more difficult to answer. I'd bet that everyone will immediately recognise her if he/she sees the full picture, but most of us wouldn't know her real name without resorting to google or wikipedia.

That's correct, and it needs to be narrowed down. The one I'm looking for was designed by the same sculptor as the one in New York and actually served as model for the latter.

More or less the same size, depending on the cruiser class you use as a comparison.

Ostfriese

Not a destroyer. It was larger than the destroyers of its time, but smaller than modern destroyers (Arleigh Burke class destroyers are longer and have a higher displacement).

Ostfriese
02-21-24, 10:08 AM
Frigate?
Larger than a frigate.
Additional hint, as this seems to go in the wrong direction: at first glance it clearly seems to be a certain type of warship. If you mentioned that specific type I would answer "yes, but...", because this vessel was rather unusual in several regards.

wooden hulled?
Ostfriese
02-22-24, 12:40 AM
wooden hulled?Likely not, though I'm not entirely sure.
I think it would have been mentioned if the hull had been made of wood, but none of the sources I looked at says anything about it. If the hull had been made of wood it would very likely have been one of the largest wooden-hulled ships ever, so I'd say it wasn't wooden hulled.

Nope.
Additional clarification: it strongly resembles a typical warship of WWII, only if you look closer you'll notice differences. Being unarmed is just one of them.

That's the one (classification IX-64)
One of the two training ships used to train pilots and flight deck personell (the other one was USS Sable, IX-81).
The two ships were converted from paddle-wheel steamers and thus became the only freshwater, coal-powered and paddle-wheeled aircraft carriers. Based in Chicago, the ships trained more than 17,000 carrier pilots far away from enemy mines and submarines.
