The Guardian's exclusive article:

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jun/17/uk-ministers-order-urgent-vitamin-d-coronavirus-review

Dr. Campbell cannot be thanked enough for bringing this issue of Vitamine D up time and again in his videos, I have collected a lot of reading about it in the past three months as well, and the burden of hints and evidence is already overwhelming, and not just regarding the positive effect in case of Covid 19.

I am a bit amazed that he enver mentins Vitmaine K2. Its important and maybe the most overlook vitamine there is.

I can only wave at the direction where the water is, going there and drinking the horse must do itself.

I supplement Dr. Campbells latest video on Vitamine D with again linking to this German site (use Google website translator)

https://www.vitamind.net/dosierung/

that has a lot of information collected on Vitamine D, the site belongs to a book publisher who is in holistic medicine and naturopathic treatment, the authors all are doctors with PhDs and are practicing, they are no dubious shady business people. Many of their articles have links to according studies in the established medical journals, check these out. Even the article on products only gives warning on what to watch out for in crooked products and lists no brands and no individual supplements, there is no advertising and no selling attempt whatever. But it warns of that many of the products you can buy especially via internet, are of inferior quality and often have jjst a part of even just a tiny fraciton of the doses printe don the packages.

If somebody knows an equivalent to this site in english, I would appreciate it if it is made known to us.

Do not trust in the conventional orthodox dose reocmmendaitons given by national nutrition advisory boards. Its dinosaurs sitting in them, their values base on one single monumental methodological fault in one highly influential study that erratically calculated some data too low by factors of 5 and 10!!! Like in the past with iron and spinach: some poor dude once copied data and accidntally moved the decimale by one position, and so spinach suddenly in scientific literature had ten times as much of iron than it actually has... A very prominent example of how human fault can mess up science data.

I am confident to say that very likely you are always on the safe side if you stay within 10 thousand units per day over many months, and do not exceed a once-in-a-lifetime entry dose of 50 thousand units to get yourself started in replensihing your body'S internal Vit D reservoir (doing so takes time, several weeks). And that are even still conservative, extremely cautious estimations. Hypercalcemia and comparable symptoms as well as symptoms of "intoxication" (idiotic term, i know, but lets keep it short) usually are agreed by doctors working with Vit-D therapies to not become an issue with daily doses not exceeding 40 thousand and rushed entry doses not exceeding 250-300 thousand units.

As usual my strong advice to always combine with Vit K2, and Magnesium.

Stupid German minster wants to ban supplement slike this alltogether, continentally. I will never tolerate that such incompetence and vulnerability to lobbyism is allowed to make it to the rank of minsters. She pishzes for it on EU level but I hope she is fired from offic ebefore she can cusseed and that the eU is distracted by having other issues on its mind currently. Stupid, stupid girly. A season's winner of the title of "Weinkönigin" from some village. if only she would have stayed there. :arrgh!:

By reading the news I get the feeling our authorities have re-opened the society to early and to fast and the citizens have forgot to keep social distance.

According to a Danish article the R0 have gone up in Germany, from 1.06 to 1.79.
The same in other countries-the R0 have increased instead of decrease.

Yes, there is a strong increase in R in Germany, mainly reflecting outbreaks in three new clusters:

- Germany's biggest slaughterhouse with more than 1000 infections and 7000 quarantined

- a tenement block in Berlin-Neukölln, almost 100 cases

- nearly 120 infections in a tenement in Göttingen

The problem with the R value as an indicator for the course of the pandemic is it is based on a statistical estimate for the last 4 (or 7) days, more precisely: It is a quotient of two testings in enumerator and denominator respectively.

A local outbreak will first lead to a rise in the denominator (R increases), then to a rise in the enumerator (R decreases). So one will notice a very strong oscillation in R. After 8 (11) days we will see a R value that allows for assessments, if a significant spreading of the virus from the cluster into the vicinity has occurred.

Was in town, shopping in the supermarket, on Saturday morning. Must say that the discipline is almost completely gone, social distancing is a rare oddity now, amongst all age groups, on the street anyway, but also at the cash desk in the supermarket. No count limit anymore of how many people get in at the same time. Stupid. In the news thew interviewed some people on the street this evening, and to listen to these stupid comments some people give, just makes me angry. "Masks were okay in the past months, but now its warm and summer, and I want to enjoy the party", said one young woman. Does the world suddenly change just because she wants to party? Another said "All these measurements are - well, I think instead of doing this distancing, people better should start thinking about it." Häh...? Meaningless babbling. Noise. The sound of empty nutshells hitting the ground.

The problem is it gets increasingly difficult to protect yourself from these strange people. You risk aggressive intermezzi if keeping them at bay and demanding them to not stand so close behind you. Was in an store for Asian foods from Japan, India and so on, some Indian-Pakistani looking sweating man almost touching me when he waited behind me at the cashdesk, that close he was, mask below his nose, when I told him to keep distance and step back, he said something in a foreign language and angry tone and I had to turn on him in full to make myself clear. That might be nice for my ego, but it does not protect me from the real danger in this situation, and that is not the idiot himself, but the virus, if he carries it.

I need a shotgun with tennis balls to load. Shopping increasingly becomes risky again. Need to knock out the bug-lovers while they still are 3 m away.

Really, not all was bad in the past months. That people were more aware of others, more polite and willing to give up their right of way, made easier eye contact , and did no longer try to rub their skin against yours at every opportunity - I like that as general social politeness. Hugging and kissing and embracing and shaking hands, I never liked all that. So juch can be done more stylishly with the eyes alone, and an nod, or an implied bow. I am not the other's towel.

In Germany, R0 had climbed to values fluctuating between 1.5 and 1.8 before a recent outbreak at meat producers with over a thosuand of known infections. Many people, foriegn workers, have fled and returned to home countries of theirs. The state government of Northrhine Westphalia, whose leader Mr. Laschet already is responsible for not having stopped the Carnival in the later pandemic starting area of Köln and Düsselforf, once again reacted too late, many other people hjave escaped quarantine internation in location and now spread what there is to be spread. R0 has jumped to 2.8, logically.

There are several other outbreaks in now isolated hotspots, severla ones in Göttingen alone, but also Berlin, and some other places. Whole blocks and tower blocks get guarded by police that is being attacked with rocks, iron rod, and such items, every day officers get injured.

Previously agreed rules and plans between national and states governments when to lock down whole regions in case of a second wave or local backslides, get ignored, instead a lot of talking to weasel around that, while since days things spin more and more toweards gbetting out of contorl again. In Berlin sinc eMarch illegal public parties with hundreds of particpants have been run secrtely in public parks. The ultra-left senate coalition passed a law discriminating the police to such ammounts that the other states have annocunced they will no longer send own police troops in case of being called for help by Berlin. The natipon interior minister also ruled out to send the federal police into Berlin anymore, due to the politically wanted discrimination.

Reminds me of a situation regarding police-generated crime stats here in LA a while back; the LAPD was touting how gang-related crime and homicides had decreased in a run up to new budget funding; the LA Times and a couple of local TV news outlets did a little digging into the LAPD claims and found a interesting fact; the LAPD was only classifying a crime as gang related only if both the perp and the victim were gang members; this meant if a gang member committed a crime and the victim wasn't a gang member, then the crime was not counted as 'gang-related'; the decrease in 'gang-related' crime the LAPD was touting was an artifice and, when the stats were corrected to accurately record the actual level of 'gang-related' crimes, there was a net increase in gang crime; ignoring the crime didn't stop it happening and never will...

It was a ridiculously stupid idea to try and manipulate the reality of the severity of a critical situation just to make the 'numbers' look good for political reasons and it backfired spectacularly; if you are going to fight something, intel is your strongest weapon; the more you know about the nature and scale of your adversary, the better equipped you are to fight and defeat it; if an enemy army is building up on your borders, ignoring it neither decreases the threat nor arms you adequately to defeat it...

I've said it before: I have very strong confidence Trump will either say or do something to torpedo his reelection, and, so far, he is not disappointing...

Covid-19 will not stop spreading, maiming or killing just because Trump, his minions, and the Trumpettes aree more concerned about his poll numbers than they are about the numbers of US citizens suffering from the outbreak and their ignorance (in all aspects of the definition of the word) only serves to worsen an already bad situation...

Most came from Brazil, followed by the US and India.

yes, I was going to post the same thing, you see the same thing in Canada.

focusing on the number of cases is the wrong metric IMHO. The whole idea behind the lockdown was preventing the health system from being overwhelmed, so the key data points are how many patients require hospitalisation and how many die.

The raw number of Covid-19 cases itself is in a sense irrelevent since apparently up to 80% of people who test positive show no symptoms.

Just for the record: such numbers are never "exact" counts, but are calculated projections. The quality depends on the model construction on which they base. Some counts go into the formula, and the projection then covering also areas where there were no or unprecise/incomplete counts. Also, time delays by reporting data distort the overall calculated result. The latter is one thign that espoecialyl the Germans are especially bad in , that is why even over here the Johns Hopkins numbers get reported mostly and in the first, whereas those from the national Robert Koch Institut - which is no researching institute but a department of the German health ministry, a state office - play a subordinate role only. The American models are better, and their data processing is faster. Still, even these are no exact counts, but calculated projections.

"Counting" and "exact" should not be taken literally in these contexts.

Just saying, for entertainment.

Martin Schröder is professor for sociology of economics and work at the Philipps University in Marburg. His research focuses on social inequality and ideas of justice, empirical gender research, capitalism variants and welfare regimes in international comparison, as well as the influence of moral arguments on economic activity.

When are we really satisfied? Marburg sociology professor Martin Schröder believes that the influence of the corona crisis on this issue is overestimated. Like so much more, by the way - at least that was shown in the evaluations of a long-term study.

FOCUS Online: Mr. Schröder, you wanted to know what makes people happy and have evaluated enormous amounts of data. How exactly can you imagine that?

Martin Schröder: The basis of my work is the so-called socio-economic panel, for which around 80,000 people have been interviewed in Germany since 1984 as part of annual surveys. At that time it was believed that it was important to keep asking the same people the same questions over and over again in order to get really meaningful results. Example unemployment: Here it is important not to focus only on groups of people who currently have no job. It is at least as exciting to take a look at how the same person is doing as long as he is in the job, when he becomes unemployed, and then again after he has returned to the job. My research work includes both: I do so-called group comparisons and I look at how the living conditions of the same person affect satisfaction over a longer period of time.

FOCUS Online: Have you already gained insights into the corona crisis in your evaluations?

Schröder: Unfortunately, the data are usually only available two years after the survey. But the German Institute for Economic Research, which currently has exclusive access to the data, has already had its first results. The data shows, for example, that concerns about one's own economic situation have largely remained the same. However, concerns about the general economic situation have risen sharply. The bottom line seems to show that general life satisfaction in Germany has not currently declined.

FOCUS Online: This is surprising. People are not more dissatisfied, even though we are experiencing the greatest crisis since the post-war period?

Schröder: Yes, and it can be explained by the fact that your own satisfaction is always compared to the outside world: around me, business goes broke, people get sick, maybe even die - then I don't feel that way in comparison bad. I used to meet my friends maybe five times a week, now we only sit together on weekends and then only when the weather is nice, because it would be too risky inside ... but that's actually not a big drama compared to the horror reports you get in listen to the media.

FOCUS Online: As long as you do not get Corona, you mean?

Schröder: According to the DIW survey, health concerns have absurdly decreased over the past few weeks. According to the motto: My knee hurts from time to time and I also have migraines sometimes, but as long as the virus is gone, everything is fine. In research, we speak of the reference standard. We use this to classify our own life satisfaction. In a way, everything in us seems to be designed to keep it stable. And as I said: Even in the current situation, we seem to be largely able to do this.

FOCUS Online: Has the lockdown less troubled people than predicted?

Schröder: It looks like it, yes. People are very adaptable. It can be seen that satisfaction levels have decreased among those who were depressed or lonely before the crisis. But it would be wrong to say that Corona makes you depressed or lonely overall. It is important to differentiate here. Possibly the said side view comes into play again: The neighbor, the buddies, everyone is sitting in the same boat. With everyone, the contacts are a bit on ice. So why should I complain? We just have to go through this together now - this feeling seems to compensate to some extent for the loss of social contacts.

FOCUS Online: Are social contacts perhaps generally overrated? Are there any findings from the long-term study?

Schröder: In fact, contacts are one of the most important factors for satisfaction. What is overrated is the importance of frequency. Simplified: Whether I meet friends once a month or three times a week, it makes no difference.

FOCUS Online: The main thing I feel fundamentally involved?

Schröder: Right. And here I found something interesting: Even in the years when people felt particularly strongly connected to Germany, the overall satisfaction points were comparatively high. Relevant phases were the turn, for example. But even if - quite banal - things happen that Germany wins in football, this has a positive effect on general satisfaction. AfD voters are happier - whoever wants to do something like this is wrong. That's not the point, not nationalism is the issue. It's a sense of community. Like now with Corona. The virus threatens us. And this threat welds us together as a community.

FOCUS Online: Were there things that particularly surprised you when evaluating the data?

Schröder: No matter how I calculated it: fathers seem to be happier when they work longer. With mothers, on the other hand, there seems to be no connection between life satisfaction and working hours. That amazed me. I was also very surprised by the importance of appearance. After the interviews, those who conducted the interview were asked: How good did the person you asked the questions look like? Those who were considered attractive by others turned out to be clearly more satisfied. Honestly: I personally would have much preferred to have been satisfied with things like a good character. But as a sociologist, I don't want to show the world how I would like it to be. But the way it is.

FOCUS Online: Can a kind of guide to a satisfied life be derived from the test results?

Schröder: In the sense of: Follow these three rules and then will it work with happiness? It is not that simple and there is nothing that is further from me than wanting to tell people how to live. You can't say: people, go out often, meet, party, then you're happy. That would be dubious. One can only say that social contact is important in itself. Exactly how this social contact is structured, whether you are married, have a large circle of friends or rather a few handpicked candidates, does not seem to matter. The only thing that we find really clear in terms of satisfaction was that little sleep goes hand in hand with fewer satisfaction points. Adequate sleep is something I now pay more attention to than I used to.

FOCUS Online: Do children make you happy?

Schröder: That was also absolutely surprising for me. In fact, I couldn't find any connection between children and my own satisfaction. Parents are no more unhappy than childless people. Again: Social contact is crucial. Whether it's the grandparents we spend time with, sons or daughters or good friends, that's secondary.

FOCUS Online: There were also surprising things when it came to leisure, wasn't it?

Schröder: Yes. Simplified: When we go to the theater, it seems more important to us to meet other people than to see an interesting play. Sport, art, going to concerts or clubs seems to make us happy above all, in so far as we meet other people.

FOCUS Online: But is not that a contradiction? On the one hand, social contacts are important and the real driving force behind many things. On the other hand, we seem to put up with the loss of social coexistence in the Corona crisis quite well. How does that fit together?

Schröder: This is where my work becomes exciting. Finally, I look at dozens of aspects, everyone has a certain influence and only all together explain satisfaction. For example, we know that people often evaluate events quite differently a few years later. For us Germans, 9/11 has not, as has been announced many times, become the epoch break. My personal assessment is that the predicted effects of the corona crisis will be dramatized and sometimes even exaggerated by the media. It's a general pattern that we think what's happening right now is totally important. In a few years we may say: Back then we just couldn't meet our friends for a while. It wasn't great, but we got on. I would go even further. I can well imagine that at some point we will come to a point where we say: the whole thing also had its good points.

FOCUS Online: To what extent will we be able to gain something positive from the corona crisis in the long term?

Schröder: As I said, satisfaction is not just about how life is de facto. But also how life is relative to the demands. It used to be normal to be able to meet your friends at any time. Then after a certain major stretch it became something special. It was special again to hug his friends again, to meet them carefree, without any ulterior motives. Maybe a bit like the first time you bite an apple after fasting. Will we value friendship differently in the future? I personally can imagine that. And in due course the evaluation of the long-term panel will surely provide us with some exciting insights.

The Trump gang has politicised a most important and natural, self-recommending measuremeant of health protection, it has turned wearing and not-wearing of masks into a political statement. By doing so, they will the death of many and the suffering of many more. For this crime alone they should be brought to court and locked away for life. There is a German expression, "jemand geht über Leichen" (direct translation is "somebody walks over dead bodies"). Well, Trump does that. Not just metaphorically, but literally.

What to do with the many stupids falling for this propaganda, I honestly do not know. They are a danger not just to themselves, but to all others. Well, in a way that answers in a way what should be considered as legal and morally right: to do what is needed to stop them from putting others willfully at risk. Because there is as much a ight to make others sick by infection like like there is a right to make others sick by putting poison in their coffee.

Longer term issues. Now these are what is my main concern with this virus. Patients that get released from hospital, but are anything but "recovered", suffering from lasting health issues for months, maybe even years - needs to be seen, and as we know for some lung-related issues like fybrosis and capacity deficits at least: the rest of their lives. There is a reason I think why some weeks ago a statistics metaanalysis study from the Imperial College London claimed that if standardizing life expectancy after Covid 19 recovery and cleaning it from effects like high age at time of infection, health conditions that preexisted and so forth, men and women surviving a serious case of Covid 19 that saw them in need to get hospitalised, suffer a loss in life expectancy after Covid 19 "recovery" of 11 and 13 years. I would say that is pretty dramatic and very strongly relativses the meaning of "recovering".

By the last what I red about how likely your chance is to suffer a severe going of the disease in case you catch the virus (you be not asymptomatic then), when you catch the virus you must throw a six-sided die, fate leaves you no choice, that die is thrown, and you have roughly almost a chance equalling throwing a "6" that you will suffer a severe going. That is not comforting a chance, you are anything but untouchable. Comfort you can take from a chance below 1%, not from chances around 16% or higher.

So, this virus commands your respect. Dont be an idiot and just laugh and do not care, like so worrying many people now do.

The CDC in the US says that by its estimations probbaly tenb times as many peope got infected in the US as so far is being announced in numbers. So far the numbers say there have been 2.3 million infections and over 121,000 patients dead. In recent testings, younger age groups showed up to be more prominent than previously thought. - More than 1 million corona aid cheques have been sent to receivers that were already dead since some time. Try to not grin - German banks over a decade ago sent billions to Lehmann when it already had delcared bancruptcy. :D At least this virus seems to be an older strain then.

More food-producing factories in Germany report new clusters. Tönnies in Northrhine Wetsphalia counts over 1500 infections, after them followed a turkey farmer, and now a Döner factory.

Some days ago it was said that they now consider air conditioning systems to be a source of mass infections. I have not yet grabbed what they mean by saying "now". I mean they cannot have seriously not taken that into account already two and three and four months ago, right?

Making snide nicknames for a very real, and deadly, disease just to amuse one's followers is not a sign of good leadership; nor is denying the existence of grave and deadly problems just because it affects one's "numbers" adversely; over 2.48 million confirmed cases, over 126 thousands deaths, and an alarming spike in new cases in the US in the last couple of weeks is not a joke and the response should not be a joke either...

I mentioned it some weeks ago already. In the uS everything seems to be taken as a competition, and Americnas seem to love to compete, but take every such competition as a life-or-death affair: the winner must take it all, the looser must etenerally, totally, completely fall. Such an life style or attotud eon life might have its reword in constructive, economic contextxs or sports, but in heated poltics like that torn apart states of America with that ammount of polarization already present, even life-or-death issues gets politicised beyond repair and get turned into anothe rmerciless competion for penultimate total domiance, and the looser has to fall into the deepest of all abysses.

Its a bit like with auto-immune diseases (which often ultimately do kill you, mind you). The immune system drives its fangs and claws into an identified enemy and gets so ferocious that it stops discriminating between friend and foe cells, but even turns against itself. The fighting must go on, for the sake of the fight.

The fanaticised basic posture of the two sides i american poltics, the behaviour of their believers, their unforgiving atttude and their uncompormised determination to not accept comprmise and comign toegther and instea dfocus on keeping the competing at maximum, remind of two sects.

What it does not remind of, not at all, is the mindset and spirit of the American founding papers.

Like an auto-immune disease means the immuen systemt urns against itself and the body, America suffers from auto competing syndrome, and competes with itself to political self destruction. Trump is not the casue of this, he is just the latest - but most prominent - symptom. The process itself already runs since I would say the change from Carter to Reagan at the latest.

20 million people in the US may actually have been infected, almost 10 times the recorded number, health officials warn.

I heard that this figure came from testing people for anti-bodies that may of had the virus and no longer have the virus and then mathematicaly figuring out how many people could be included in the total assumption.

In other words there may be huge bomb shell surge coming to America by next flu season. I love football, but can you imagine how many fans could spread THE virus to other fans and then they go home and go back to work the next day.

Cancellation of NFL football in 2020 is a very real possibility :yep:

*COVID-19 ALERT: Fraudulent Facemask Flyers*

https://www.ada.gov/covid-19_flyer_alert.html

The Department of Justice has been made aware of postings or flyers on the internet regarding the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the use of face masks due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many of which include the Department of Justice’s seal.
These postings were not issued by the Department and are not endorsed by the Department.
The Department urges the public not to rely on the information contained in these postings and to visit ADA.gov for ADA information issued by the Department.Evidently there is a group calling themselves the Freedom to Breathe Agency posting these fake ADA cards so that people can circumvent mask regulations.

Crikey, just wear a mask.

US Vice-President Mike Pence is hosting the first coronavirus briefing in nearly two months.

He says the US "flattened the curve" while admitting cases are rising in 16 states.

Florida sets another new record for daily coronavirus cases, reporting nearly 9,000 new infections.

Another hard-hit state, Texas, orders bars closed amid a surge in cases.

UK police and government warn they will clamp down if mass gatherings continue in hot summer weather.

Change my mind: Total covid-19 deaths should be roughly the total increase above averages of deaths from all normal causes for the given months? Taking into account that there might be less highway fatalities and also taking into account that there might be more deaths from other causes due to lack of treatment during the covid-19 time period?

Are there figures for that anywhere? :hmmm:

Gov. Greg Abbott orders Texas bars to close again and restaurants to reduce to 50% occupancy as coronavirus spreads
https://www.chron.com/coronavirus/article/Houston-coronavirus-updates-What-you-need-to-15368473.php

Gov. Greg Abbott on Friday took his most drastic action yet to respond to the post-reopening coronavirus surge in Texas, shutting bars back down and scaling back restaurant capacity to 50%.

He also shut down river-rafting trips, which have been blamed for a swift rise in cases in Hays County, and banned outdoor gatherings of over 100 people unless local officials approve.

“At this time, it is clear that the rise in cases is largely driven by certain types of activities, including Texans congregating in bars," Abbott said in a news release. "The actions in this executive order are essential to our mission to swiftly contain this virus and protect public health."

I do not just "believe" it, some things we simply do know for sure becasue it was anaylsed in laboratories. ;)

You are right, however. AFAI am aware of the current scientific consesus (that excludes the Trump people automatically), surgical masks have the benfit of breaking the stream of air when you breathe out. Already a hand held before the face does that, though is less efficient. You nevertheless create aerosoles, its just that the initial output stream does not flash as fast into the room before you with such a mask. Aerosoles stay in the air for hours, however, and slowly expand in clouds . Surgical masks offer mild protection for yourself, the tissue layers are not made to catch all virus, and the masks often do not fit perfectly and the person breathes in some unfiltered air from gaps at the rim of these masks. These masks are meant to protect patients from the doctor habndling them. However some study from i think Hongkong found them to be slightly more protective than was previously assumed, and they are most likely also better than just a cotton cloth mask that was nitted at home. However, I would not enter a shop with these. I have them, but consider them only if I need to pass through an area where there are many people on the street, but it is in free space, outside. NEVER IN SHOPS. So far I had not needed them at all since I avoid such situations alltogether. I bought them for 30 Euros per 100 pieces maybe 6-7 weeks ago.

FFP2 and 3 masks equal KN95 masks, offering comparable protection against virus if correctly worn . The tested filtering capacity should be 95% and 99+% for FFP2 and FFP3, means only one in twenty and one in a hundred virusses passes through the mask, with anglosaxon KN95 norm I think combining these two European standards into one. FFP3 has an increased breathing resistance, and now, in summer, and sweating face skin, I would not recommend to use them, its no fun, really, the breath gets wet within 3 minutes and it feels as if you are breathing extremely wet mist. I prefer FFP2 in summer. But these masks are the ones that offer you best protection for yourself IF WORN CORRECTLY. I prefer them to NOT have valves, because then my exhale gets not filtered when I breath out, and that obviously is not nice for the others. The virus cannot multiply in these masks and will simply deactivate if you hang them up after use for some time, I expect them to be gone after 3 days (thats the maximum survivability for Covid 19 virusses we know so far, and on paper they found it to last even just a third of that time at max), but bacteria can that you breath out, thats why these masks should be carefully stored in dry air, not, as they always recommend, in sealed tight bags, that cannot be true! Moisture, sealed bags, and bacteria thrown together? No good idea. When I leave a shop and drive home, I hang it on my belt so that it dries in the wind. I use a mask once, then hang it away for three days before using it again. Every 4-5 uses, I bake it at around 75° for half an hour. After 3-4 oven treatments I throw it away. So I get 12-20 uses out of one mask. They are available in Germany now, though almost exclusively only via internet. costa are varying from 1,50-2,80 per item. I use to buy them when I find them for 15 Euros per 10 pieces. Its still more expensive than before Corona, but acceptable. The producer of the latest pack I got writes on the box the masks are meant for repeated are can be used for a total of 36 hours, without giving any further details.

Self made cotton maks do not offer reliable virus protection , they maybe reduce the virus load if you inhale a virus load, but due to the lack of any virus-filtering layer they cannot be too good at that. They break the air stream if exhaling, which is a polite thing to do. But I see them mostly as alibi, and do not consider them seriously in any situation.

Transparent faceshields that some people wear instead of masks, offer zero protection against aerosoles - full stop. Any further discussion can stop here, its misleading. They simply should not be used, or only in combination with an additional mask, then they can serve as exe protection at least, though tight-fitting lab glasses are again the better choice.

All this is more or less known since many years already, is no magic, and sitting down and spending a minute of thougth on the problem can lead a reasonable person to similiar conclusions. I do not understand why the media and politicians make such an endlessly diverse topic for debate of it. If you want to switch on the room light - do you push the button or not? :hmmm: Does anyone debate on this? No. Everybody just pushes the button, and nobody considers to make a show act of it.

Serious, btw, if the numbers go up again, people are sweating, ventilation is running, protective glasses inside shops are no unreasonable idea. The virus can enter via the mucosa in 1. the jaw (mostly it goes this way), 2. the nose (second choice) and - 3. the eyes. Breaking aerosole air streams to the eyes or preventing your playing fingers to touch your eyes, is no bad idea. In social situations where the risk must be assumed to be signficant, I would always consider glasses, and have used them over my regular glasses in the past. Currently not - officially we have just 4 known hospitalized cases in my hometown currently. City of Münster currently is quite safe. But in the bordering district to our east they have all puppets dancing, just 30 minutes on bicycle away there is a hotspot, and the people there come to Münster for shopping. They come from far away as Holland to go shopping here, we are close to the Dutch border. Some further to the East there is the current ground zero of Corona in Germany, Tönnies facvtory. 1500 infected personnell, hooray.

Health experts in the US call for urgent action after a record number of new cases were recorded on Friday.

Top infectious disease expert Dr Anthony Fauci says there is "a serious problem" - but Vice-President Mike Pence hails "progress"

The US has more than 2.4 million confirmed infections and at least 125,000 people have died - more than any other country.

Meanwhile, the number of reported cases in India has surged to more than 500,000

Restrictions on some non-essential overseas travel will be relaxed in the UK from 6 July.

More than 9.8 cases and 494,000 deaths worldwide - Johns Hopkins University.

I'd like to see an update. I'd also like to see current year stats for those other causes of death. If there are zero deaths from cancer this year then something's rotten in Denmark.

https://www.statnews.com/2020/04/09/its-difficult-to-grasp-the-projected-deaths-from-covid-19-heres-how-they-compare-to-other-causes-of-death/

This states that regularly approximately 8,000 people die per day in the USA from all causes so whatever number more than 8,000 or so should be attributable to covid-19.

USA death clock
https://www.indexmundi.com/clocks/indicator/deaths/united-states

If you go by their data the average deaths per day in the USA from covid-19 since Jan 1st would be around 750, but few occurred in the first months. This would mean that there should be approximately 8,750 people on average dying each day in the USA from all causes for 2020 as opposed to just 8,000 in 2018 and 2019

What's the deal with the Texas Lt. Governor? It seems there's some sort of disconnect between Lt. Gov. Patrick and Gov. Abboott over the state of Covid-19 conditions in TX; I seem to recall there is/was some sort of TX state constitutional situation that gave the Lt Gov some sort of powers over the office of Gov; is this still in effect and, if so, how will it affect the ability of TX state government to protect their citizens? Just curious, since it is rather unusual to see a Gov and Lt Gov at such odds, particularly when they are from the same party... :hmmm:

For a woman "with breathing problem" she yells surprisingly loud and enthusiastically and enduring. Well, stupid is who does stupid things.

BTW, there are online supermarkets with home delivery services. Even in Germany - so how much more do I expect them to exist in the US!

However, more and more these antisocial people refusing to protect others from the risk of getting infected by themselves more and more often turn aggressive, even violent over here. Itsd not generally on the same aggression olevel everywhere, but depends on where you are. In Berlin for example I read in the city's local press that situations when people tell unmasked people in busses and subways to wear a mask, escalate pretty often and quickly now. And its always the unmasked people turning aggressive.

Reckless, anti-social. There is no freedom to injure, expose to harm, infect others. There is no such right. That would be like claiming a right to put rat poison into somebody's coffee and see whether he gets ill or not. The guy in the second vidoe has it right: "[Wearing a mask] is not a big deal. It is a big deal not to wear one."

I just read a newsflash saying that all ICUs in Arizona now are blocked, and over 90% of all ICUs in Florida. Consider that they have boosted the capacities already as much as they could in the time until here.

The US now is at the beginning of where Italy was.

Data suggests that most infections currently are in the age group teenage years to mid-40s. Also, now rural places attract many, many infections. Both is against the canon of "its only the older ones getting hit", its only in the metropoles".

In Israel, they have a similiar problem now. The younger ones get infected massively, in a second wave, they thought they were out of it, since Israel was amongst the global best performers in fighting off the first wave. Now they struggle, and schools were locked down again, since it showed that they were highly active infection hotspots. Likew the US, they reopened again too early.

The state of Bavaria offers free tests to just everybody now, symptomatic or not. I could imagine that this becomes a "service" nationwide. Whether it makes sense that then everybody runs to get one, is something different, I think one could still practice some reaosn and check the need for a test against one'S own life style and exposition risks. My own such analysis for exmaple would be that I am very, very low in risk since I live very much in retreat, and so I am not in a hurry to get tested. If I still would work and spend 8 hours a day amongst hundreds of ever new people, I would consider the risk to be high.

But people who are in doubt or want to be safe, then could get tested, and I see nothing speaking against it.

However, a clean result (no infection, no anti-bodies) is of little durability only. Theoretically you would need to get tested every day. And those who have antibodies already: its still not clear how long immunity lasts and whether or not it provides immunity against mutated forms as well.

This is the first time I have seen this story, which I would call a conspiracy

"
A CV-19 VACCINE WILL CHANGE YOUR DNA

It’s all part of their plan.

Pay attention!!
"A disturbing warning letter from German naturopath Anette Lillinger to all of her patients inquiring about the upcoming coronavirus vaccine.
"For all my patients:
I would like to urgently draw your attention to important questions concerning a forthcoming Covid-19 vaccination:
Due to the new mode of action of the future coronavirus vaccine, such cure successes will no longer be possible in the future. For the first time in the history of vaccination, the so-called latest generation mRNA vaccines intervene directly in the patient's genetic material and thus change the individual genetic material, which represents genetic manipulation - something that has been banned , even considered criminal so far.
This intervention can be compared to that of genetically manipulated foods, which is also very controversial.
Even if the media and politicians currently trivialize the issue and even call without thinking about a new type of vaccination in order to return to normalcy, such vaccination is problematic in terms of health, morals and ethics and also in terms genetic damage which, unlike damage caused by previous vaccinations, will now be irreversible and irreparable.
Dear patients, after such an unprecedented vaccination against mRNA, you will no longer be able to cure the symptoms of vaccination in a complementary manner.
You will have to live with the consequences, because they can no longer be cured simply by eliminating toxins from the human body, just as you cannot cure a person with a genetic defect such as Down's syndrome or 21, Klinefelter syndrome, Turner's syndrome, genetics heart disease, hemophilia, cystic fibrosis, Rett syndrome, etc.), because the genetic defect is once and for all present!
Clearly, this means: if you develop a symptom of vaccination after a vaccination with mRNA, neither I nor any other therapist can help you in a causal way, because the damage caused by the vaccination will be genetically irreversible.
In my opinion, these new vaccines represent a crime against humanity that has never been committed in such a broad form in history.
As Dr. Wolfgang Wodarg, an experienced doctor, said yesterday:
In reality, this "promising vaccine" for the vast majority of people is in fact prohibited genetic manipulation!"

Thanks to Caveat Emptor and Anjaliva Petersen for sharing!
"
I'm very suspicious when I read something like that and the first I do is to search for some kind of truth in this.

And I found it

A Covid-19 vaccine will cause “irreversible genetic damage” to the human body, according to a message quoting “German naturopath Anette Lillinger” that’s been widely shared on Facebook. One version claims it would be a “crime against humanity”.

^ Anette Lillinger? Here she is: https://lillinger.aquion.de/ Sells energetized "Aquion" super-dooper-wonder-water, sorry, aqua. Oh, I just saw it also has a seal: eco-ethical water. Wowh, now I am impressed.

Stupids like these who spread fear of vaccines, do so much damage: measels, for exmaple, are on the march again. Polio. Pests that werew considered to be defeated, come back. There are (or better: there can be) risks involved in vaccination, but not for stupid explanations as given by Lillinger. The problem that some virologists already saw in february with corona virusses, seems to compare to a problem known from Dengue fever: a vaccination against it can lead to antibodies that cause a paradoxical effect - and even reinforce the efficiency of the attacking virus. Soime seaosnal flu shots are under suspicion to also suffer form this. This is seen by some as an explanation why some people attract so severe symptoms of Covid-19: maybe they had contact with other corona virusses before, formed antibodies against these Coronas, and when they got hit my this new Corona virus named Covid19, their antibodies worked this paradoxically like can happen with Dengue shots. If that is true, it could delay the development of a vaccine tremendously, maybe even prevent the development of a really safe vaccine.

Back to Lillinger, the water fairy. One quesiton to her should be this: what about the irreparable damage to the lungs (as just one exmaple)? When all this began, I red a comment by a doctor who did autopsies and who said the lungs were not to be recognised as lungs anymore. The quote by him stuck to my mind: "Es sah aus als wäre ein Küchenzauberstab in den Torso gefallen." (It looked as if a kitchen magical wand had fallen into the torso) With Küchenzauberstab, kitchen magical wand, he referred to a Swiss brand (ESGE) that produces these items, once they were called "Zaubertstab" over here in advertisment:

The doctor apparently referred to something like a late cellular (thus bloody) collapsing of lung tissue after it had formed scarred fibrosis. Fibrosis are the main reason why surviving patients often suffer from signficant lung capacity deficits. They are irreparable.

The head of the World Health Organization has warned that the coronavirus pandemic is not even close to being over.

It has now been six months since the first cases of a mysterious pneumonia-like illness were reported in Wuhan, China.

At the time it was feared that we would see a repeat of the Sars outbreak of 2002 to 2004, which killed 774 people.

Now, with more than 500,000 people dead and more than 10 million confirmed cases worldwide, WHO director-general Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has said this is "a moment for all of us to reflect".

But, he warned, the "worst is yet to come" - adding that "with this kind of environment and conditions, we fear the worst".

Despite progress in some countries, he said the pandemic was speeding up and the world would need even greater stores of resilience, patience and generosity in the months ahead.

"Six months ago, none of us could have imagined how our world - and our lives - would be thrown into turmoil by this new virus," Dr Tedros told the WHO press conference.

Arizona abruptly reverses course on reopening its economy as coronavirus cases spike there and nationwide.

With July 4 celebrations approaching, Texas and parts of California also direct bars to close again.

Stricter lockdown measures have been announced in the British city of Leicester because of a rise in cases.

The EU names 14 countries whose citizens can enter from 1 July, but the US, Brazil and China are excluded.

A new strain of flu that has the potential to become a pandemic has been identified in China.

Globally there are 10.2m cases and there have been more than 504,000 virus-linked deaths.

Too imagine that hairsplitting academic theoretizising made so many medical experts forget the small 101 of battling unknown virological pandemics, air control/cleaning, and environment hygienics. I wll never forget - or forgive - that. Fachidioten. One must not study medicine to use some reasonable thinking and come to the conclusions - wash hands, exchange air, let plenty of fresh air flow to keep virus load in the air low (HEPA filter systems or open windows, according to the virus), maintain proper environment hygienics - that not before months later started to get sold as the big revelations for how to contain the virus.

WHO, CDC, RKI, and many more: they all have made fools of themselves. We are talking about the small 101 of hygienics and virus control. No magical, brandnew rocket science stuff at all.

Remdesivir was shown to reduce the stay of serious cases in ICUs from 14 to 11 days, and slightly reducing the number of fatalities. I would describe it not as a cure, but as something that gives mild easing of a crisis.

Globally there are 10.6 million confirmed coronavirus cases and more than 515,500 deaths.

Companies will be asked to stockpile 10 weeks’ worth of masks in the event of a second wave, France’s secretary of state for economy and finance said. "We're preparing for the start of the school year and there is a risk of re-circulation of the virus," Agnès Pannier-Runacher said.

Local governments here are starting to get really serious about enforcing face mask orders; prior to now, it has been pretty much an honor system where the LEOs haven't really had any ordinances to back any enforcement of mask orders; now, a couple of local cities are actually spelling out penalties for non-compliance by individuals (businesses were already facing enforcement via license restriction/revocation, fines, etc., for non-enforcement on their premises):

People arriving in England from dozens of nations will no longer need to quarantine from 10 July.

A full list of 'low risk' countries is set to be published on Friday but will include France, Spain and Germany.

PM Boris Johnson will urge the public to act responsibly ahead of England's lockdown being eased.

The governor of Texas has ordered face coverings to be worn in public as virus cases rocket.

With 53,000 new cases recorded on Thursday, the US set a new one-day record for new infections.

Globally there are 10.8m virus cases and there have been more than 520,000 deaths.

There has been a rise in the number of coronavirus cases in Austria, after relatively stable figures through most of June.
The total number of active cases in Austria is now around 787, compared to 470 before the weekend.

Quarantine rules in England are being abolished for travel from dozens of countries - including France, Spain, Italy and Germany. That means people arriving from these countries, including UK travellers coming home, will not have to spend 14 days in isolation.

But the other UK nations have not yet decided whether to relax their rules.

Travellers from England may also still face restrictions at their intended destinations.

Greece, a popular holiday destination with a low number of coronavirus deaths, says it will not accept direct UK flights until at least mid-July.

Austria requires Britons to self-isolate unless they have a recent medical certificate or test negative for coronavirus on arrival.

New Zealand has barred almost all foreign travellers from visiting, while those entering Australia require a special exemption visa and face a mandatory quarantine.

One US state seeing a surge in cases is Texas, where people have now been ordered to wear face coverings in public. Texas marked a record number of infections this week, with 8,000 new confirmed cases on Wednesday alone.

The Palestinian Authority is imposing a full five-day lockdown in the West Bank, starting from today, as cases of the virus continue to rise. Previous local restrictions in "red areas", including hard-hit cities Bethlehem and Hebron, failed to stop the spread of the virus.

South Korea has recorded its highest daily increase in cases in two weeks. In the past day the country reported 63 new infections, bringing the total to just under 13,000

The number of confirmed coronavirus infections in Tokyo have topped 100 for the second day in a row. The Japanese capital reported 124 cases today - the highest daily number since a national state of emergency was lifted in late May.

Melbourne is at a "critical stage" after an outbreak of the virus, despite Australia generally being a success story. Although the numbers are still below March's peak, most cases are now being spread locally instead of from people arriving from abroad.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un praised his country's handling of the virus as a "shining success". The country maintains that it has had zero cases, but most analysts say this is unlikely.

US virologist Dr. Fauci warns that it seems the virus has mutaed into a form that is even more infectous and produces higher loads of virus in infected cells/patients.

A German virologist expressed strong scepticism that next year there will be the one super vaccine, the one drug to cure it all. More likely it would be that it takes much longer for such a drug to develope, and that we probably will end up with a whole group of different vaccines with sometimes smaller, sometimes bigger differences in their effects. The virus most likely came to stay, he said. We need to learn to live with it.

Florida governor, a Trump man, said he rejects to shut down anything, and leaves the repsnsibility to nevertheless do so to lower levels of the hierarchy: districts and towns. Texan governor however, also a Trump man, has ruled that social distancing (with rules still quite lenient imo) and wearing masks now gets enforced. Texas hospitals are at their limits, some seem to be locked.

Hyper-individuality meets superstitious science scepticism meets religious mumbo-jumbo - and the result is what is going on with Covid-19 in the US. People risk their health and life and that of their families only to not follow the wrong party's message on wearing masks - really...? Something ticks very strange in the American way of thinking there. Uncomprehensable.

A new battleground opens up between the EU and the Disunited States of Trump, but this time it is the EU side seeking to take the initiative and threatening to open fire.

The European Commission released a drug for the treatment of Covid-19 for the first time on Friday: Remdesivir. Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides spoke of "an important step in the fight against the virus". This approval was given "less than a month after the application was submitted", demonstrating the EU's determination to "react quickly as new treatments become available". However, the Commissioner from Cyprus hid one important detail: the drug will not be available to Europeans in the foreseeable future. The US government contractually secured 500,000 treatment units at the end of June. This corresponds to the entire production of the single manufacturer Gilead by July and ninety percent of its capacity in August and September.

This has not gone unnoticed by the experts in Brussels. They are suspicious of how Donald Trump's government is signing exclusive contracts. The CDU health politician in the European Parliament Peter Liese therefore issued an unmistakable threat on Friday. "I think it is necessary for Gilead to share his knowledge with other companies and to let them enter the market as competitors so that care can be provided for the largest possible number of patients worldwide," said Liese. One relies on cooperation and dialogue. If that fails, there is also a Plan B: “It is possible that the member states of the European Union jointly issue compulsory licenses, that is, also against the will of Gilead, enable the drug to be manufactured in the EU by other companies, and we will move also consider trade measures. "

As can be heard in Brussels, France and Germany have long been preparing for a compulsory license scenario. The legal basis for this can be found in the 1995 Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights, Trips for short. It states that patent law finds its limit in the case of necessary protection of "public order", which includes "protection of human health". The agreement grants states the right to "take necessary measures to safeguard public health and nutrition". Article 31 regulates the conditions for a possible compulsory license. This means the granting of the production license to a producer in their own country without the permission of the patent holder.

Liese wants the Commission to coordinate such a step and then the Member States to take it together; only they are contracting parties. The point can also be found in a position paper on health policy, which his group, the Christian-Democratic European People's Party, unanimously adopted on Wednesday. There, with reference to a vaccine against Covid-19, it says: "If a vaccine is developed outside Europe and others do not want to share it with us, we also have a plan B", namely "to issue compulsory licenses". Liese reports that he is in frequent contact with representatives of the Gilead company, which also produces other medicines and is therefore entering the European market. "The question of how the European institutions see this company now very much depends on us being treated fairly," says the health politician, who is a doctor himself.

The CDU man also believes trade policy consequences are necessary if the American government continues its course in health policy. As a role model, he sees a list of punitive tariffs on American products with which the EU Commission has responded to America's reintroduction of tariffs on steel and aluminum. “The health of citizens and overcoming this serious crisis must be at least as important to us as the European auto industry. That is why we have to be ready to also impose trade sanctions, ”he said on Friday

The EU Commission has granted conditional market approval for Remdesivir. This means that, according to the experts, the drug is likely to be effective and has few side effects. However, this must be investigated further during treatment; the company must submit reports to the European Medicines Agency (EMA) by December. The EMA applies the rapid procedure, called "rolling review", to emergencies in the area of public health.

Wait until the first vaccine is ready. That will be fun.

But not deaths which as you knew was the point. Keep everyone on lockdown for a year, assuming that is possible without society crumbling completely, and you'd still be facing a new wave of infections when you do finally open it back up. Medical science is not going to save everyone from getting covid no matter how long you keep them imprisoned in their homes.

Ok, let's strip the hyperbole from this and remember, no one is saying we have to stay imprisoned at home or in total lockdown to manage this crisis. I don't care what Sean Hannity says, we can reduce the number of cases and death and still have a functional economy if we distance, mask, and reduce the number of social interactions, especially unnecessary ones. Texas had a good chance to avoid this, we knew how this played out in New York, but nooo, we opted to insist on our "rights and freedoms" instead of some traditional courtesy toward others. I guess we'll see how it plays out.

And your chart needs to be updated, the July 1 - 2 spike exceeds 50,000 cases.

PM Boris Johnson has held a press conference on the eve of some lockdown measures being eased in England.

He says local lockdowns - like that in Leicester - will be "a feature of our lives for some time to come"

There is no "risk-free next step" says chief medical adviser Prof Chris Whitty.

Businesses' success is dependent on "every single one of us acting responsibly", says PM

People arriving in England from dozens of nations will no longer need to quarantine from 10 July.

New figures suggest 20,000 care home residents have died with Covid-19 in England and Wales since the beginning of March.

The governor of Texas has ordered face coverings to be worn in public as US virus cases rocket.

India's reported more than 20,000 new cases in a single day for the first time since the outbreak began.

Globally there are 10.8m virus cases and there have been more than 520,000 deaths.

Darn tootin. Americans should always demand their rights and never tolerate some government jerkoff telling them they must surrender their freedom for anything, especially when given conflicting and weak reasons and unsustainable orders and advice. Masks don't work/masks are mandatory, two weeks to flatten the curve/this is the new normal. Since when is it common courtesy to encourage neighbors to inform on each others movements? To applaud riots while banning religious services?

Thats why I do not accept it when anyone claims his right for freedom when he uses it to pose an infection danger to others. There is no right to expose others to what that article describes. Like there is no right to rape, to poison, to slaughter, to wound.

Personal freedom necessarily ends where one poses a risk to health, life and freedom of others. Where one does not care for that, the others have a right to self-defense.

New study shows that even in sunny Africa Vitamine-D deficiency is quite common, comparable to Europe. That is because where the sun shines heavy, people tend to avoid it. Or they must work all day in enclosed halls and rooms.

Myself, I had just suffered my first attack by polymorphic light dermatosis this year, or in brief: sun allergy. I am vulnerable to it since last year, when I first was struck by it. I cannot expose my unprotected skin to sunlight anymore, must wear hats, sunblocker, UV-protecting long sleaves shirt loosely over my T-shirt, and thicker trousers than until last year. It sucks, but I cannot help it, sunlight causes me very severe skin rash and absolutely awful itching for 3-5 days of terrible itching and 12-14 days of skin dots. So, even in sunny summer I am certain I am highly vitamine-D deficient. In hotter countries, the natives oftehnj poratcice sun-.evading loiving styles and habits. So, a sunny country does not automatically means less Vitmaine-D deficiency of the population. People in Mexico and India are known to be very deficient, for example.

Researchers at the Henry Ford Health System in Southeast Michigan have found that early administration of the drug hydroxychloroquine makes hospitalized patients substantially less likely to die.
The study, published in the International Journal of Infectious Diseases, determined that hydroxychloroquine provided a "66% hazard ratio reduction," and hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin a 71 percent reduction, compared to neither treatment.
In-hospital mortality was 18.1 percent with both drugs, 13.5 percent with just hydroxychloroquine, 22.4 percent with azithromycin alone, and 26.4 percent with neither drug. "Prospective trials are needed" for further review, the researchers note.
"Our results do differ from some other studies," Dr. Marcus Zervos, who heads the hospital's infectious diseases unit, said at a news conference. "What we think was important in ours ... is that patients were treated early. For hydroxychloroquine to have a benefit, it needs to begin before the patients begin to suffer some of the severe immune reactions that patients can have with COVID."

I found this following text about he nomenclatura and norms for respiratory masks. Since there is a lot of confusion and uncertainty about Chinese-made masks ands the Chinese habit to forge products and to forge European norm seals (CE-label for exmaple), it maybe is useful to know about this. Its not that every Chinese mask ,missing Western quality seals, must be necessarily bad. They simply do not test them all currewntly, there is to much flooding in. Its not as if Chinese hospitals do not know about the need for quality assurance as well. FFP- and KN/N masks from Western production are practically impossible to get currently, almost every KN or N or FFP mask on offer to private consumers is made in China, and what there is in Western production of FFP2/3 standard, goes into the professional health care system. The cloth masks being recommended now by authorities, are are worst option there is, the waste option that is left after the need of healöth care has been adressed. I sometimes think they want people to get infected at a controlled rate.

Just take care that you do not buy masks with exhaling valves. Obviously if you are carrying the infection, these work counterproductive.

Berlin - Respiratory protection and mouth protection are available in different designs and filter classes. Depending on the classification, the products block particles of different sizes. After the FFP2 and FFP3 masks were initially in high demand, the KN95 mask is now coming to the fore. The different designation is related to the different standards worldwide.

In Germany, particle-filtering respirators are classified into three groups. It is important that these masks only protect against solids - special full masks with a filter unit are required to protect against gases and vapors. FFP stands for "Filtering Face Piece". Their use is required by law at workplaces where the limit values of individual substances are exceeded. When working in the recipe, for example, an FFP3 mask is required depending on the active ingredient. The active ingredients that require the wearing of a face mask include, for example, cortisones and hormones. In connection with the corona pandemic, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) recommends at least mask of filter class 2 for protection against viruses.

FFP1: Non-toxic dusts, smoke particles
FFP2: Non-toxic dusts, smoke particles, carcinogenic substances
FFP3: Non-toxic dusts, smoke particles, carcinogenic substances, viruses, bacteria, fungal spores, radioactive substances

KN95 and N95 - China

The Chinese standards GB 2626-2006 “Respiratory protective equipment. Non-powered air-purifying particle respirator ”and GB 19083-2010“ Technical requirements for protective face mask for medical use ”were published by the Standardization Administration of the People's Republic of China (SAC). The GB 2626-2006 standard has a transition period until June, when GB 2626-2019 applies. A GB is a national standard that must be adhered to when manufacturing products. There are four types of mask in China: KN95, KN100 and KP95 as well as KP100. The mask of the type KN95 currently frequently ordered from China essentially meets the requirements of the American N95 masks.

Essential product information

Name and identification of the manufacturer
Model and size
Masks that were manufactured in accordance with standard GB 2626-2006 must be visibly marked on the mask or on the packaging with the associated standard designation (GB 2626-2006 KN95)
on the packaging: product license number, production date or production lot number, shelf life (at least 12 months) and recommended storage conditions.

The General Secretariat for Industry and Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises in China issued alternative specifications for PPE masks (PPE = Personal Protective Equipment) with European CE marking at the end of March. "In principle, the GB2626 standard is applied by the manufacturer in a self-certification process under its own responsibility, and market surveillance is carried out by the manufacturer." The General Secretariat's resolution continues: "Due to the coronavirus crisis, the Chinese government ordered that all masks be put on." three aspects are checked: penetration, breathing resistance and labeling. As a result, all masks in the Chinese market should have test reports with these three results, created by the national quality control and testing center for personal protective equipment. Every province has at least one such laboratory that is accredited. ”There are currently 45 of these accredited test centers.
N95 - America

The mask type designation N95 originally comes from the USA. Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Japan also use the name and manufacture masks to the required standard. The corresponding standard 42 CFR Part 84 was published by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). To compare the masks with German filter classes, it can be said that N95 masks essentially meet the requirements for FFP2 masks.

Take this desease serious. This is no clown bug making funny jokes. It kills, and if it does not kill, it does this, amongst others:

In the midst of the terrible numbers of the Corona crisis, one value stood out that gave hope: the number of people who were healed. Millions of people worldwide have already survived Covid 19 disease. But months after the pandemic began, it became increasingly clear: the virus had a long-lasting effect on many sufferers. Do millions of people face long-term consequences?

Overall, little is known about the late and long-term consequences of a corona infection, said Peter Berlit, Secretary General of the German Society for Neurology, at the beginning of June. The first insights into possible neurological consequences had only been gathered about a few weeks ago. "They weren't known before, because the disease is still young."
"Nobody knows what will happen to them"

But now, weeks later, there are already clear alarm signals from science. "People think: either you die or you are fine, but that's not how it is," explains British doctor Helen Salisbury in the "Spiegel" newspaper. The debate had long been about intensive care units and ventilation stations. But now she is afraid that there are many people who "may stay sick forever."

Many of the patients she was treating and who already had a Covid 19 disease behind would still suffer from symptoms such as exhaustion, fever episodes or cough. How should she treat those affected? She does not know. "Nobody knows what will happen to them," says Salisbury.

Timothy Spector, a professor at King’s College in London, is investigating the course of illnesses of more than 200,000 patients over an extended period of time. From what he has seen so far, he thinks Covid-19 is "completely unpredictable". About ten percent of the observed patients had unexplained symptoms for more than a month, many of them even after two months. The symptoms range from exhaustion and headache to difficulty breathing, dizziness and diarrhea. "I am a trained rheumatologist and I know about strange diseases. But Covid-19 is the strangest disease I know," he told Spiegel.

Intensive care doctor Matthias Kochanek, senior physician at Cologne University Hospital, had already reported a month ago that even patients with a mild course complained that the duration of the illness felt longer than was known from normal flu.

And a pattern could be seen in seriously ill patients. Compared to patients with other forms of pneumonia, it would take them much longer to recover.

One question that more and more medical professionals are concerned with is what damage Covid-19 causes by attacking the brain. In some patients, severe neurological diseases - so-called encephalopathies - became visible after an illness.

"This is expressed in restlessness and confusion, and memory performance can also be impaired," explains Peter Berlit. A few weeks ago, he warned that there were fears that such restrictions could remain for a long time.

Another risk is the long-term consequences of strokes, which according to Berlit are frequently observed not only in seriously ill Covid 19 patients due to a higher tendency to thrombosis. Which symptoms remained mainly depends on the affected area of the brain.

According to the “Spiegel” report, doctors now see a parallel to the Sars pandemic in 2003. Even then, the pathogen was a previously unknown corona virus, which caused severe respiratory disease in patients - and many patients at that time had above all long after the illness Symptoms of exhaustion complained.

Harvey Moldofsky, a sleep and pain researcher at the University of Toronto, had spoken to those who had long-term problems. "Even more than a year after getting through the infection, people were still exhausted, felt weak, had muscle pains, sleep disorders and could no longer think clearly," he now told Der Spiegel. Complaints similar to those with chronic fatigue syndrome.

Whether Covid-19 patients are threatened with something similar in the long term - currently doctors and researchers cannot say. But the fear remains that in the future it will not only be the treatment of acutely infected people who will face challenges.

So if you look through this graphic, the situation in the US is improving daily.

https://www.ftportfolios.com/Common/ContentFileLoader.aspx?ContentGUID=a9e49836-abc7-41cf-8949-4497ddee0018

deaths and hospitalizations keep going down.

ICU bed capacity is only at 60% and Covid patients occupy less than 10%.

90% of deaths are among people 65 and over.

45% of deaths are in nursing homes.

of course, you would not know any of this if you just listen to CNN.

https://time.com/5858593/younger-people-covid-19/

More recent data, however, show a more complex picture. Older people do seem more likely to die from COVID-19—but they aren’t necessarily more likely to get infected.
U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data from mid-March (https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6912e2.htm?s_cid=mm6912e2_w) found that about half of U.S. COVID-19 patients with known ages at that time were 55 or older—even though only 29% of the country’s population is that old. Over time, though, the data has settled to better reflect the country’s overall age distribution (https://www.kff.org/other/state-indicator/distribution-by-age/?currentTimeframe=0&sortModel=%7B%22colId%22:%22Location%22,%22sort%22 :%22asc%22%7D) (with the exception of kids 19 and younger, who still make up a very small portion (https://time.com/5816239/children-coronavirus/) of infections).
The CDC’s most recent data (https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6924e2.htm#T1_down), published on June 19, shows that nearly 70% of people in the U.S. who tested positive as of May 30 were younger than 60. The median age of U.S. COVID-19 patients during that time was 48, and it’s even lower in the country’s newer hotspots like Florida (https://www.news4jax.com/news/florida/2020/06/19/gov-desantis-median-age-of-florida-covid-19-patients-declining/) and Arizona (https://www.azcentral.com/story/news/local/arizona-health/2020/06/24/more-younger-people-getting-covid-19-since-stay-home-order-ended/3246845001/), where case counts are surging.
Also, many countries reported over the past 2-3 weeks a massive surge in infections amongst younger people from early 20s on.

If you get infected, you have roughly a 1 in 6 chance that you become that ill that you must get hospitalized. And then your life can turn really very very nasty.

And as I just posted above, even mildly infected people not going to hospital, report that they need months to recover, and that hospitalized people surviving, have still not fully recovered after months, maybe will not fully recover for the rest of their lives.

Its not just the old ones dying in nurse homes, Bilge Rat. The problem is far more fundamental and wide spread. It effects everybody, young and old, well-trained and couch potatoes. Notbody is untouchable to this virus. Even not the young and strong and healthy and well-trained.

And it is still not understood what is going on in the body that got attacked by Covid-19. Only that it is a multi-organ attack at mltiple fronts, striking practically the whole organism, not just the lungs.

Treat this bug with the respect it commands, guys. This is no desease you want to catch improvidently, like an occasional cold. At least as long as you are no masochist or suffer from suicidal fantasies.

For example, in your graph they decided to show total ICU bed capacity in the US. Why? If there are spikes in only certain areas, total ICU data for the entire country is an extremely inaccurate way of showing how much strain there is in those areas regarding ICU capacity.

Then there's this one:
There were 273 deaths from COVID-19 in the U.S. on Sunday, June 28th, 2020. That is down 84% from the Sunday peak of 1,733 on April 19th, 2020.While this is completely accurate, one must ask why show those figures? Sundays have always had less deaths. Your daily average continues to be much higher than that. Just day before, on June 27th, there were over 500 deaths, on the next day (29th) 366 and the day after that 700+. But those don't look as rosy as 273 deaths, right?

It's a BS graph by a bank with vested interest to see the economy reopen.

For the record, a week or ten days ago or so, big cities in Arizona and Texas had hospitals reporting they had their ICUs full at 90 and 100%, with patients being shuttled to other houses or cities because they could not be treated in place anymore.

In local areas, the hospitals are being overwhelmed.

I agree 100%, we should be able to manage this without completely shutting down the economy. Trouble is, we aren't, we're not even trying all that hard. We have a large and vocal segment of the nation actively undermining the effort to slow the spread and keep the economy going.

My niece works in a Houston ICU unit, she says all their ICU beds are full with Covid patients, and that means car accident, ladder falls, stroke, etc patients are being shuttled to different wards/hospitals. Filling up fast.

Too bad there isn't a way to separate the "I'm taking this pandemic seriously" patients from the "Rush says they're after muh freedom" patients. But I suppose the cautious people are not a large proportion of the emergencies.

Delays to cancer diagnosis and treatment due to coronavirus could cause thousands of excess deaths in the UK within a year, research suggests.

Scientists suggest there could be at least 7,000 additional deaths - but in a worst case scenario that number could be as high as 35,000.

There are concerns routine screenings, urgent referrals and treatments have been delayed or cancelled.

NHS England said it was working hard to restore services.

well as I see it, there is a middle way. Every politician acts as if the only two options are do Nothing or complete lockdown.

Social distancing, wearing masks, washing your hands regularly, limiting access to nursing homes and long term care facilities would take care of 90-95% of the problem as I see it.

As you may recall, the whole idea behind the lockdown and why we all had to go along was to "flatten the curve" so the health system would not be overwhelmed by the mass of Covid patients that were supposed to show up.

Currently, the system is not anywhere close to being overwhelmed on a national level. If certain states or cities have a spike which they cannot handle, they could certainly send patients to other cities or states with excess capacity or adopt local emergency measures.

you could look at any data, look at any way to calculate it, daily, weekly, weekly average, the result is still the same, the peak was hit in april and has been going down ever since and you see pretty much the same in most countries, including Sweden which did not shut down.

It's a BS graph by a bank with vested interest to see the economy reopen.

How can you say it is BS when all the data they quote is accurate?

Sweden and Israel are in the midst of wave no. 2. Cases in Israel are higher today than they were at the peak of first wave -although the country did an excellent job of containing the pandemic, they decided to ease lock down too early. Now they pay the price - the enemy is back, stronger than before.

Sweden also now gets hit by economic consequences - as if it had done a full lock down in the first. They have launched an examination panel why this is so. Just that their standardized mortality rate is over 4 times as high as in Germany, for exmaple, which did a full lockdown. They took two gambles, and lost twice.

Personally I avoid trains completely currently, it was safer three months ago to go by train, since almost nobody used them over here at that time, the trains were empty and everybody using them, wore a mask in full compliance. Today the trains are crowded again, and a third of the people do not wear masks, although they must. But the Deutsche Bahn says it has no police authprity to enforce it, and so nobody rejecting to wear face masks in trains must fear any consequences except maybe angry looks by others. But even these angry looks are not dared often, sicne many mask-violators are easiyl turnign aggressive and bullying.

Plenty of moisture in the air, wet surfaces, plenty of aerosols from workers standing side by side, workers are foreign workers livbing crowded in isolated houses with 8-12 men in one sleeping room, no social distancing possible, cold temperature - ideal breeding grounds for many virusses. In nature you find virusses not in the open, sun-lit, dry places, but either in living organisms or in caves' dark, wet, cooler insides.

That Covid 19 attacks the brain is being suspected since longer than just the imminent past already. I stumbled over several such mentionings in the past two months or longer.

The virus'S identified attack list grew longer and longer since the pandemic began. Some medical scientists see it as a desease of the blood vessel system in the main, to explain why it so wildy spreads all over the body. I do not now if that maybe already is outdated again, I mean to exclusively reduce an explanation attempt to just this, "blood vessels explain it all". It seems Covid 19 syndrome becomes the more complex the more they learn about it.

While fine aerosol droplets s hold smaller virus loads, I assume that these smaller loads neverthless are dangerous because finer droplets get breathed in much deeper into the lungs than bigger droplets. I stick to it, and this is known to speed up infection tiem and so leavign the immune system lesser time to form antibodies before the virus reaches critical numbers: there is a long since known link between severity of infection, and virus load at the time of exposition. Avoid being together with people in closed rooms if you can, in the open stay 8-10m away, and have the wind and the other person never in your face. California and Texas report more than 10,000 new cases in a day - Reuters tally shows.

Lots of new cases, but how many had no symptoms? How many didn't know that they were a carrier of Covid-19 and were spreading it around to 9 or 10 more people at parties?

Lots of questions for a new virus that we don't even have answers for.

My advice is to stock up on more masks ... the law will get stricter in some areas of the country. :yep:

Mexico City has recorded 7,000 deaths from Covid-19

I wonder who's doing the counting?

Churches Were Eager to Reopen. Now They Are a Major Source of Coronavirus Cases.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/08/us/coronavirus-churches-outbreaks.html

The virus has infiltrated Sunday sermons, meetings of ministers and Christian youth camps in Colorado and Missouri. It has struck churches that reopened cautiously with face masks and social distancing in the pews, as well as some that defied lockdowns and refused to heed new limits on numbers of worshipers.

Pastors and their families have tested positive, as have church ushers, front-door greeters and hundreds of churchgoers. In Texas, about 50 people contracted the virus after a pastor told congregants they could once again hug one another. In Florida, a teenage girl died last month after attending a youth party at her church.

Had to venture out today for some home repair materials. People were mostly wearing masks, state order, just the occasional boob with the mask down around his chin. Hopefully if people stick together, the cases will drop back down to European/ Canadian levels.
