Problem being, the British are usually lazy about learning other languages and the Dutch nearly always speak English.
I do not speak Dutch, but the language has some similarities with other countries in the area ... at the same time it should be said that they Englishmen he or she I met has strengths to want to be able to speak other languages, like Swedish for an example, yep

LOL. Remember I mentioned reading that book about the Anglo-Dutch wars in the 1600s? Well, The English won the first round, then the Dutch proceeded to wipe the floor with them for two rounds. Then they sent a bigwig to England to be the new King, thus ending the war in their favor, but letting the English win too. Then they both ganged up on the French and Spanish, who had the bigger fleet but weren't as good as using them. Then the Dutch quietly faded away and let the English have it all.
It's a bit more complicated than that, but now you know why the Dutch speak English so well. They won hands-down and then surrendered. Kind of like the Minbari. :sunny:

One positive about being British is that wherever you go there is usually a speaker of your language but that is what makes Brits fundamentally lazy about other languages.

I need a car thats tough, 4x4 with manual transmision and manual diferencial lock and you can reapir it on site with a wrench and a large hammer. Even power steering is not recomended. One big pothole and you're stuck where a towtruck can't reach you.
That's why my cousins 4x4 club laughs at anyone that comes with an Audi or BMW. A tow line is mandatory equipment when not driving on asphalt.

That does surprise me...I always thought the lower the standard of living, the further your money went :hmm2:
Betonov
12-29-12, 02:32 PM
Thats' true with the realy low standards.
Low standard means low consumerism, most of your pay goes for food and clothes, one can save a bit.
We don't have a low standard. Hospitals have the latest equipment, middle class drives luxury cars, internet and mobile phones in all but the poorest homes and even those have acces to public wi-fi spots.
Problem is the corruption and party affiliation. And I mean a third world coruption in a first world nation. There's so much goverment interefernce without goverment regulation that there's always so much middlemen involved in distribution chains that the price for a loaf of bread is 20 times than the price for the grain needed. Not to mention construction projects.
A republican and a democrat would discus goverment involvment in Slovenia and their heads would explode.

You all know my love for my dog and the history of him preventing me from commiting something extremly stupid.
Then it will come to a surprise to you that someone reported us to the State Vetenerian Bureau for abusing/mistreating our dog. :/\\!!
The dog is old, that's why he has short breath and the growth is not a pretty sight, but he eats like ke's one year old and has the energy of a pup. And the report said treatment of dog above standards. We may have to pay a fine because we didn't take him to have his rabies shot last year. The problem is that we will have to take him to the vet and we'll learn nothing we heard before. The growth can be removed but the operation itself would kill the dog. :/\\!!
But because some idiot wants to medle in someone elses life I might expect a decree from the state that because the growth cannot be removed the dog needs to be eutanised. And he just started to get better :/\\!!:/\\!!
To think I once argued with August about me being as free as him. Hell, we're still in communism :/\\!!

I didn't quite get what the report says, if it is says you treated him above standard there should be no reason for a complaint.
Hope you have a good vet, who attests that the dog is treated well and he doesn't suffer, his word should have more weight than an anonymous complaint. Best wishes!

Todays snowdriving was an absolute disaster.
Drove a km before the situation forced me to put on snow chains. A murder for the hands despite wearing gloves. Then made another kilometer before I plowed so much snow (I was the first vehicle on that road since snowfall) that the car simply climbed upon the pile and both drive wheels were in the air. Took me half an hour to dig myself out.
Drove back down and when I reached asfalt I found out that the tensioning mechanism for the chains broke and I coulnd't remove one set of chains. My dad had to drive there with bolt cutters. Great, €30 and one time use :nope:
