Not trying to sound insulting, but as someone studying museology as a minor subject, someone who has worked in a museum and someone who intends to one day become a professional on the field, I'm just confused by how wrong that all sounded.

Ah, now I understand. Well, here is the problem. The museum is at an Air Force Base, the main part is real airplanes, not models. Of course the real planes are limited in number, and are all American.

The workers are mostly retired mechanics. They can fix an F-16 blindfolded, but most of them have no clue what a S.P.A.D. 13 or a Fairey Fulmar was. Their expertise is limited to the real planes, and the model cases were neglected for a long time. So they needed a couple of guys who love to study the history.

I thought it was funny that Hill AFB was named for Major Ployer P. Hill, who died flying the Boeing 299, the prototype B-17, but the only model they had in the case labelled "Planes Major Hill Flew" was the Revell B-17F. They had a "professional" modelbuilder who was constructing Academy's new B-17C model tell them that the prototype just "couldn't be done". So I built one for them (actually I was already working on it) in time for the Base's 50th anniversary celebration in June 1990. So now the in the entrance to the indoor part of the museum is this (sorry for the poor quality of the pictures, but they were taken with a cheap camera twenty-one years ago).

Their expertise is limited to the real planes, and the model cases were neglected for a long time. So they needed a couple of guys who love to study the history.

And that's exactly why you have catalogue references. They must have once known what each model was, at least when they accepted them in their collections. Hence they (usually) would have given each model a reference number in catalogue and painted it in the object, for example under the wing, a bit like you did.

The references make it possible for even a moron like me to check from the catalogue what each thing is and what we know about it, if I don't know already. They would also make it possible for me to actually work in the museum much easier. If some old hand told me: "bring me that model of Fairey Fulmar", I might look like this:

Whereas if he said: "Bring me that model AFM 173_4", I could do it on my first day at the job.

Don't mind me, I just love museum catalogues. :DL

(sorry for the poor quality of the pictures, but they were taken with a cheap camera twenty-one years ago).

But they still show the beautiful model well enough, so what more can be asked? Nice shots.

You need:
2 eggs.
1 – 2 dl of sugar.
3 dl of flour.
2 dl of cocoa powder.
1 dl of cooking oil.

How to:
1: Mix sugar with the eggs in a bowl.
2: Mix flour and cocoa powder first with each other and then with the eggs and sugar in the bowl.
3: Pour the cooking oil into the bowl and mix again. The result should be pretty sticky.
4: Empty the bowl into a dish and cook in 175 degrees oven for approximately 35 minutes.

Instead of cocoa powder you can also use other ingredients to make different pies. I have so far successfully tested the recipe with bananas, apples, berries and jam.

'twas my thought as well. If the car's as old as it is, and still running the original alternator, I'd lay money on that being the problem.

This was some hellish week at work.

Worked double shifts on monday and tuesday (3pm to 7am), 10 hours yesterday and today it finnaly came after me, I busted my back after only 3 hours at work and now I'm waiting for my friend to pick me up and drive me to the doctor. Hardly managed to drive myself home

Hope the doc prescribes you a massage by 2 fine, lightly clad redheads - though it's more likely the masseuse is a russian ex-weightlifter! :O:
Probably you'll only get an injection to relax the muscles.

If you do a lot of heavy lifting you should also check for special back training, your intervertrebal disks will thank you.

Use the sick leave to regenerate, I'll do the same after my comparible hellish work week. I have some days off untill Monday - as soon as I am out of this madhouse today I will turn off the phone, submerge into my cave and do a video and game marathon. :know:

Luckily it's not the backbone. I sprained a muscle on my right side of the back. Hurts like hell but should be better within days. I just need to rest.

And I could use an ex-soviet weightliftin champion, I need a heavy duty massage to unravell my nerves and straighten my spine and then thinly clad redhaired maseuses (spelling?) to relax me :DL

Can someone please do me a favor? Repeat after me: "Hottentot, you are an idiot."

I never feed my dog bones. Never. Except this once. I got a bone as a gift from my mother. And not just any old bone, but a pig's leg bone, bought from a petshop, packed and all. And I still said no, I'm not going to feed my dog bones and that's it. But then again: why would they sell them if they were dangerous, right? Right? Yeah, I guess...

Well if I should have learned anything at work, it is that you don't bloody [expletive, expletive, expletive] guess when it comes to an animal's health [expletive, expletive, expletive]!!

Long story short, a small piece got stuck in his intestines and it was veterinary time for us. The worst is over, he will get better. Doesn't change the fact that I was a bloody idiot, putting my idiotic emotions before my freaking best friend's well being.

At the moment I literally hate myself. That's not a figure of speech.

Could be just bad luck. You know, when you do for the first time something you don't ever do, because you know it carries risks.

But if I had to offer an explanation, I'd simply say: a retriever. A retriever that loves to eat and isn't too picky on how it eats. Just bites off a huge chunk and swallows it, goes down the throat but doesn't come out of the rear. The pieces he has now been popping out of his rear end are about the size of a finger's tip. Have that turn somewhere the wrong way and it might get stuck.

What got my attention was that he started whining after doing his stuff in the bushes, and the end product was bloody. And sure enough, some of the pieces have also been sharp. They have most likely made small wounds in his intestines, but nothing that wouldn't heal with time.

In retrospect, the vet visit may not have been necessary: the bone parts were stuck, but they were not (fortunately for the dog and my wallet) removed by surgical means. They are slowly coming out naturally, or at least that's what we hope at the moment. A dog can have things like this happen without the owner even noticing it, because it is not always dangerous.

But when my dog is pooping blood, I'm not going to wait and see if it's going away on it's own. I know where the my own abilities end, and that's a 100% sure sign.

In my layman's knowledge I only heard of chicken bones being dangerous because of splintering, didn't know that pig bones are also dangerous.

Basically any bone can be dangerous, but it depends. Most bones come out without trouble, like I explained above. Boiled chicken bones are bad, because they are prone for splintering, but just as they don't necessarily splinter and cause trouble, likewise any bone can splinter and be a nasty problem. That's why I don't like taking risks with them.

Edit: And it of course also depends on what your dog can digest, that's highly individual thing. Some of the dogs I have met could probably have eaten steel and pooped chains without any problems whatsoever.

Speaking with a more serious tone (and I hope my last comment wasn't a poor attempt at humor on a serious issue), there is truth in there. I have experienced it as well, with both genders.

There is only so much you can do. Be a friend, try to make them get professional help, whatever, it's all in vain if the person him/herself isn't going to do anything about it. I know that, for example, with depressed people you can't just expect them to "snap out of it", but if you insist on "saving" people and take it too seriously when no results are achieved, you'll just break yourself too. Then who is going to help you?

I'm a dog lover (steady, McBee, steady boy!) but it's selective, I don't like little yappy dogs. At all. I don't like little yappy dogs.

Size can't be helped, but yappiness (is that even a word?) is a state of mind. It's a sign of something. I could say what "something" in 99% of cases is, but children might be reading this forum too.

And as for size: I didn't like small dogs in the past. Then I got employed for a short time in taking care of them. The dog with most Attitude, capital A, I have ever met was a Chihuahua. That fellow's ego was the size of a horse. If it had ever met my current mixed breed retriever (size difference being about 30kg), it would probably have beaten him to a small, bloody pulp and continued as long as the retriever was begging for mercy. Seriously, that rat was scary. :o

And I say that with voice filled with love. I miss that miniature Terminator. We had lots of fun together once we befriended.

While you are not the first one to say that, it's actually not what I'm referring to. My own little poodle is doing well at the moment, the danger is thwarted and the lesson is learned.

I've just participated in training several dogs for the last few days and while I met many wonderful people, I met only wonderful dogs. Dogs that their owners said were bad. That's what hurt the most. Anyone with half an eye for dogs could instantly tell on which side the leash the problem was. And it's much more difficult to get people to listen to you than it is to get dogs do it.

Lojze Slak died today.

Who is this man that his death is worth mentioning. He's not family, we were not aquainted nor I ever did anything for him. But he did something for me.

He was a musician, a folk artist. And played the harmonica like the devil himself (the european harmonica, the one you don't play with your mouth). His songs were not a part of Slovenia, they were Slovenia. His Cebelar (Beekeeper) is an unofficial anthem of this country (along with Golica and Na Roblek from Avsenik). He is a part of our culture as Betsy Ross is for the US or Queen Victoria is for the UK.
As if a part of the entire nation died with him

Vietnam era military cadence, it's really tacky and I self edited a few asian racial slurs so as not to get banned, killed, murdered, maimed...etc. It's kinda tacky but this isn't the hello kitty forum so I will risk it.

We shoot the sick, the young, the lame,
We do our best to maim,
Because the kills all count the same,
Napalm sticks to kids.

Chorus: Napalm sticks to kids,
Napalm sticks to kids.

Flying low across the trees,
Pilots doing what they please,
Dropping frags on refugees,
Napalm sticks to kids.

Goods in the open, making hay,
But I can hear the gunships say,
"There'll be no Chieu Hoi today,"
Napalm sticks to kids.

See those farmers over there,
Watch me get them with a pair,
Blood and guts just everywhere,
Napalm sticks to kids.

I've only seen it happen twice,
But both times it was mighty nice,
Shooting peasants planting rice,
Napalm sticks to kids.

Napalm, son, is lots of fun,
Dropped in a bomb or shot from a gun,
It gets the (*****) when on the run,
Napalm sticks to kids.

Drop some napalm on a farm,
It won't do them any harm,
Just burn off their legs and arms,
Napalm sticks to kids.

CIA with guns for hire,
Montagnards around a fire,
Napalm makes the fire go higher,
Napalm sticks to kids.

I've been told it's not so neat,
To catch (*****) burning in the street,
But burning flesh, it smells to sweet,
Napalm sticks to kids.

Children sucking on a mother's (**),
Wounded (*****) down in a pit,
Dow Chemical doesn't give a (you know what goes here),
Napalm sticks to kids.

Bombadiers don't care a bit,
Just as long as the pieces fit,
When you stuff the bodies in a pit,
Napalm sticks to kids.

Eighteen kids in a No Fire Zone,
Rooks under arms and going home,
Last in line goes home alone,
Napalm sticks to kids.

Chuck in a sampan, sitting in the stern,
They don't think their boats will burn,
Those damn (*****) will never learn,
Napalm sticks to kids.

Cobras flying in the sun,
Killing gooks is lots of fun,
Get one pregnant and it's two for one,
Napalm sticks to kids.

Shoot civilians where they sit,
Take some pictures as you split,
All your life you'll remember it,
Napalm sticks to kids.

NVA are all hard core,
Flechettes never are a bore,
Throw those PSYOPS out the door,
Napalm sticks to kids.

Gather kids as you fly over town,
By throwing candy on the ground,
Then grease 'em when they gather 'round,
Napalm sticks to kids

As brutal as it is, it seems anti-war in nature. It seems to mock the Pentagons kill counts.

Personally I find the song hilarious, and I am an awful human being.:shifty:

Nice weather down here too, fortunately I only work mornings. Been very foggy the past few. Had a coach party in, they leave today but we still have over sixty in house for tomorrow, and then a hundred odd for Macmillans cancer relief coffee morning...so that's going to be a busy one.
Still, weekend off... :yep:

Oh, and that's a lovely dog you have there Jim, reminds me a lot of our little lass, Suzi:

Some good(?) news: I'm still alive!
Had a bad cold, so reading and thus writing here was too much of an effort.
Besides sleeping, coughing and snorting all I could do was watching tv.
Wow, you can really feel how your brain melts away when watching daytime television :dead:
Of course I also infected my Frau, so we cancel the party we wanted to throw on Saturday

Personally I find the song hilarious, and I am an awful human being.:shifty:
I can sign this! :smug:

and for everybody else interested in dark humor from Nam, here is a link to scans of Grunt Magazine (http://www.craigsams.com/pages/grunt.html), which the son of the publisher, Ken Sam, put online.
Steve probably knows the mag; for the rest: it also contains pictures of bare breasts, so be warned :03:

Great Scott! Thats all I do anyway!
Actually today I've forgone sleep, having slept for 14 hours yesterday.

My biological clock is like one of those silly pianos you buy your infant.
You think, oh, they'll mess with it for a while then they'll be mozart.
You think its going to be nice and coordinated, and they'll be playing twinkle, twinkle little star in no time.
but instead they're smashing it with their superman action figure, enthralled all the same.

One big advantage is that you don't suffer from jet lag, as time zone changes don't affect your clock.

Next year nuclear power, no more splinters and back pains :stare:

Next year nuclear power, no more splinters and back pains :stare: A few months ago, in southern Sweden, it was a man who was building its own reactors, which he had found on the net, after a tip to police and radiation protection authority, they made a search and found materials, which contained parts of fissile material, but did not constitute a danger to the public, they confiscated took everything, and that he was fined, his explanation was that he "always had an interest in technology".....:hmmm:

Oh, I'll be doing some gloating tomorrow... :haha: Given Chelskis lacklustre performance against United the other week I'm not entirely surprised to be honest.

City vs United will be a good match to watch, I may be a United man but I reckon City have a good chance, United are struggling in places.

One thing I've always wondered though, if they took footballers wages down by about 75%, who would still be playing football? :hmmm: Thought for the day :03:

Hi Jamie...picture this:

My 18 year old daughter has her first boyfriend who lives in my home town with his family but was born in Peckham and as such is a Chelsea supporter (southern dialect and all that).

His mothers brother (his uncle) is the Newcastle United club dentist and an official club sponsor of not only Newcastle United but also the skunks that reside on the banks of the Wear :o

It is not unusual to see my daughter waltzing around the place of abode wearing official Chelsea club issue sportswear whilst insisting she is a Toon follower like her father.
