No you are incorrect. "Things" = material objects, Translation? Words do not get "lost" but misunderstood when spoken, written, typed, etc within diffrent locus, to wit - area, nation, country. Also the use of the words by the individual, old style past, modern present day, proper, slang, etc. Yes these can be lost when written/typed ie lost manuscript, paper, disc, but cannot be lost in translation, just misunderstood like this post. :timeout:
While you are technically correct, a quick glance at any decent dictionary will tell you that "thing" is also accepted as a term for items indefinable or spiritual, so are not limited to physical objects. A good thesaurus will show that there are a great many synonyms for "thing".

Second, "lost in translation" is a common phrase, and considered acceptable usage, so your objection is over the technical detail and not the true use of the words involved.

My cash card is unable to be read in an ATM, or a card reader in-store! :damn:

Then when I phoned my bank, they asked security question after question only to tell me I'd failed! :damn:

Tried online, told me my details where incorrect for the first two attempts - third proved fruitless. :damn:

So phoned again, finally passing their simple security questions (same answers given!) that anyone rifling through my bin (or these posts here!) could know :D only to be told It'd be 7-10 days before I get my new card. :damn:

At the risk of wading into politics but not wanting to devote a thread for this, I'm just saying that I'm getting increasingly frustrated with our politicians. We had elections halfway trough April, that is, two months ago, and we still don't have a proper government assembled!

There is this one idiot leading the process. He has managed to piss off pretty much all the other major parties, has been given new chance after new chance to get it done and it's still going on. So what do we in our infinite wisdom do? Remove the obstacle by changing the leader? Or give him yet another chance, especially when his plan currently is to try a mix of parties that has already once failed during the process? Rhetorical question...

I know how frustrating banking online or via telephone can be.

I've currently got seven different cards (two are authorised for the wife) for things such as cash, credit, paypal etc.

I keep all the security passwords in the house safe for when they are needed as in your case above.

A couple of years ago I attended the Texas SS Meet and wrote the details of those cards I took with me on a piece of paper in case of card fraud or loss.....second day of the trip I lost said piece of paper

Had a run in with a dog today on the top of the local hill. The dog was trying to make me follow it, so I did. I remember the stories when people went to follow lost dogs and it led them to an injured person, thus saving their life. With stories of heroism I followed the dog. Actually lost track at one point and the damn bugger came back for me. Just before I reached bottom I lost track again. Stopped, whistled, called... but this time didn't come back. I checked the area, found no-one and called a friend to pick me up, I had no intention to climb back out of the valley and over the ridge. And then realised I lost my mp3 player
Went back an hour later with my red cross medic bag, just in case. Retraced my steps, lost way, so negative on the mp3 player. Then I broadend my search and checked a larger area than before, still found no one. Not even the dog.
I really hope that the dog wan't trying to show me the way to someone in trouble

I don't know, I met the dog almost an hour walk from my house and it wasn't my dog, my dog was at home then. The dog could be lost and I put an ad on facebook for local shelters, if there's a report on a lost dog. Dogs are survivors, If I'll find it again tommorow, when I'll retrack for my mp3, I'll inform the shelter myself and try to capture it.

I'm worried about what or who was the dog trying to show me mp3 player, you might get the insurance, and the dog may have caught the scent of another animal .... but as you say dogs are survivors, can you check online if it has happened or lost one person, it need not be so.

mp3 is a €25 cheap junk. But still, I curently cant afford a new one. I'll give one more try tommorow. Retrace my steps. It's a bright blue color so it will stand out on the ground.
The shelters in Slovenia have a single page on facebook, where they publish missing dogs reports and one can publish they found a lost dog. I put a notice today and if there's a missing dog report to a shelter, they'll compare with my report and notify me (to show them the area, help them capture it).
But there's no way to check for missing persons. It's done internally by the police.

YRNC breaks up camp in Slovenia

Slovenia, Kranj District, 28.6.2011

After only one day in Slovenia the YRNC decided to break up their camp. The Young Redhead Nymphomaniac Club spokeswoman said: "We tried everything to lure men into our summer camp. We send out our dog to point men into our direction, we even stole a mp3 player and hid it inside our body. No success, nobody came to visit us. After this disappointment we decided to leave Slovenia"
The YRNC decided to head to Düsseldorf, Germany, where they were told were nice and good looking men who appreciate the beauty of redheads.

Scheduled outage for works to be taking place elsewhere - this is the fourth time in as many months - for the first three we hired a Genny but this time decided to sit it out!

No emergency lighting here, but I've used it plenty before.

It's all back now anyway, boo :nope:

In Oman we had two bases, and a microwave shot from one to t'other, dead flat ground all around - apart from a big lump of rock in the way, about 80' high, and 400' long. So we set up a rebroadcast site here - one receiver and one transmitter, powered by a little genny that needed refuelling every 26-28 hours or so (so it was a daily job for someone!). One day the link died, and we nipped out to find the problem - some tuu@t had put the wrong fuel in. The four of us that had to manhandle a new genny up, and the old one back down were cursing for a long time after :damn:

Good news about the mp3 player, did you have to dig it out of a dead dog, was it soaked, did it still work? :hmmm:

Anyway, after one of my daughter's friends getting leukaemia, and then within a fortnight of that one of my friends dying from it, I now have a friend with MND. :damn:

Don't be my friend, I think that's the lesson.

Or maybe it's just because I'm getting old?

Or maybe because, throughout my life, I've been lucky in regard to serious illnesses?

On the up side, the funeral won't be a 900 mile round trip.

Thought that'd cheer up this miserable thread - back to Betenov's 'nut sack'... Is he a squirrel?
