4 cities in Poland: Warsaw, Wroclaw, Poznan and Gdansk
4 cities in Ukraine: Kiev, Lviv, Kharkov and Doneck (losing teams will be sent to Chernobyl :) )
The opening game will be played in Warsaw (08.06- Poland vs Greece)
The final game will be played in Kiev (01.07- Germany vs w/e :D )

We have often thought that with the England squad but tend to find that the reality is you need eleven good players to stand any real chance of succeeding.
Good luck to the Poles, I hope they do well in the competition.

Well. "Borussia" is the latin name for "Prussia". Lots of football teams here have "Borussia" in their name. Must have to do with the German liberation against Napoleonic France. As you have said yourself, after the occupation by Napoleonic France your little town, D-dorf, was occupied by Prussia and came under Prussian administration, at least a German tribe. Or I am totally wrong here? Do you have a better explanation why there are teams like "Prussia Dortmund" or "Prussia Mönchengladbach" or "Prussia Münster"etc.?

Written and sung by -oh what coincidence Herbert Grönemeyer aka Lt. Werner from that movie "Das Boot".

Damn it, I thought I'd mock a spelling error of you, I didn't know what Borussia mean. Guess the jokes's on me...:88)
Anyway, as a rhinish seperatist I regard teams who are named after our occupiers as traitors! :arrgh!: Though in carnival we mock the French and the Prussian military, all the silly dances and marches are much about making fun of the 'stiff' Prussians. At least the French gave us cool ideas about liberté, egalité and fraternité. The Prussians only brought bureaucrats...
Btw,my team is "Vfl Bochum" and your team "Fortuna Düsseldorf" is for pussies.:arrgh!:
First of all, dear Dan, I would like to thank you for the generous 4 points your team gave us this season :salute: - we needed them to (hopefully) get into the first league.
Second: No man, there is nothing more manly than Fortuna!
Third: Your club is 50 years older and managed how often to become Deutscher Meister? Exactly: 0 (Yeah, we were one time more often champion than you :O:)
My team's anthem:Herbert Grönemeyer - Bochum (Official Music Video) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVdVFD-BpAQ)
Do you hear that it is dissing Düsseldorf?
:rotfl2: the only song since 30 years which mentions your village! We have even Fortuna songs a dime a dozen. Chose the genre: Schlager (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tqX0dPr4i4), Hip Hop (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pmt-2hX9CKQ), Punkrock (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvmCpdHj2us) :shucks:
And we can diss Düsseldorf quite well on our own Die Toten Hosen - Modestadt Düsseldorf (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PETjseMbdpw) (from the same year, Grönemeyer made his little song) :O:
Dortmund brew is drinkable but we drink our own brew here. "Moritz Fiege Pils", "encore une bouteille de "Maurice de Fiege", s'il vous plaît."

"Genoa will have to play their next two home games behind closed doors after players bowed to the demands of rioting fans who halted play and ordered them to take off their shirts as the Serie A team lost 4-1 at home to Sienaon Sunday. "Madness in Genoa", was Monday's headline in sports daily Gazzetta dello Sport."
Hooligans halted play and ordered players to take off their shirts and hand them over to them by the captain because they considered the players to be no longer worthy to represent their team. lol
+ + + + + + + ++
Quo vadis, England?
The national coach has quitted his job, John Terry stripped from captaincy (probably the right decision considered yesterday's red card, what a moron, to let his team down in such a manner) and Loonie Rooney misses the first two games of the Euro Championship because of a red card. I can see why English football fans are not so sure what to think off the team that will be send to Poland/Ukraine. But as always, if you make it pass the group round anything is possible.
Tonight's match Real Madrid vs. Bayern München is interesting from the point of view of a German football fan. It has the German internationals Kedira and Özil on the Madrid side vs. the German internationals Schweinsteiger, Müller, Kroos, as well as Neuer, Boatang, Badstuber, LAhm and Gomez on the Munich side. That is 10 of 11 players from the German national team.
I think Madrid will make it to the final. München vs. Barcelona would have been better for some practise on how to later beat the Spanish team during the Euro Championship.

Ta-da!
Variation of Ta-ta, meaning goodbye. I've checked my trusty English dictionary and it gives very little else other than it's informal and chiefly British.
Sailor Steve
05-16-12, 05:29 AM
It sounded more to me like "Ta-la", which sounds like a variant of "Tra-la".
I can see where confusion would come from if you're right, though. For an American "Ta-da" is used when unveiling something, a match for the French "Voila". "Ta-ta" is the same though: "Goodby".
Herr-Berbunch
05-16-12, 06:06 AM
I'll double-check when I get to work, I'd used my phone to do it so sound quality wasn't great. . .
Ta-ta may be British but ta-da is more Northern British.
Edit: just checked Mike's sign off for a few other shows and it does indeed sound like ta-la. I've never heard anyone say it like that before! And kranz isn't the only one to notice it - comments from pistonheads.com forum
"Join us next week for more wheeler dealers, Tala"
Always raises a smile when Brewer inserts an 'L'.
When the show finishes I swear he says "Tala." That winds me up no end.
Nevertheless, the sentiment of 'goodbye' is the same.
thanks. much appreciated.
found this over the interwebz, matches what you said:
"In England you would also here more ways of saying goodbye to people. "Laters", "tata" (pronounced "tarrtarr"), "tala" (pronounced tarrlarr), "TTFN" meaning "tata for now", ..."

Fortuna Düsseldorf - Hertha BSC 2:2 -> Fortuna GOTO Bundesliga :woot:
(hopefully...:hmmm:)
Still recovering from the match yesterday.:dead: It was a thriller till the last minute. I considered driving over to the hospital in the break to tune my pacemaker under 200 bpm....
A pretty unique match.
The Hertha block did a little to much "cheering" for D'towns 2:1 by shooting massive pyros. Düsseldorf's Ultras answered with their little show, but it stayed in their block. In contrast the Berlin idiots shot even at their own players who tried to calm down their "fans". :nope:
A little vid of the event can be seen here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpWaVrDKJGs) (Berlin block on the camera's left, Düsseldorf supporters on the other side of the stadium)
Long break till the match continued. At the end of the 90 minutes 7 minutes overtime were announced.
At minute 95 (yeah, the Fortuna minute :DL) this happened: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QthEg9BxisE :o - the match was NOT over yet. I think most people who stormed on the filed thought that the match was over. Players and ref hurried to gtf off the lawn. The coaches and staff tried to get the people off the lawn. Took some time, also some time till Düsseldorf came back, then some sweaty minutes if the match would be called off or if they play the last 90 seconds...
Overall, after 20 minutes they played, Fortuna won because of the previous match, then the people could rush onto the lawn for real.
Now the sore losers from Berlin want to sue in front of the sports court...
Well, the overtime was only because of their "supporters" without their massive pyros that included shooting at the filed and at players the match would have been over in regular time.
Oh yeah: gladly none of the players were hurt during the lawn storm - and the quality of the actual footballing was pretty good! :yeah:

2 hours until the sports court of the German Football Association decides the fate of my club...
Many options are possible: in the worst case no advancement to the Bundesliga; start the new season with minus points; a rematch; a fine; or some "ghost matches" (without audience)
The thing is: we still have referee authority in football: a decision is a decision, no re-decisions, even if they were wrong.(*cough*Wembley*cough*:yep:)
Though the ref told he was quite upset about the players from Berlin, one even hit him after the match, others rioted in their dressing rooms.
Dear Air Force guys: if you need a practice target- feel free to use our capital! :arrgh!:

Could any native speaker take a look at these 2 sentences:
The very idea of the millions and hundreds of millions of years that were needed peacefully to ravage the surface of the earth here is a perverse one, since it brings with it an awareness of signs originating, long before man appeared, in a sort of pact of wear and erosion struck between the elements. Among this gigantic heap of signs - purely geological in essence - man will have had no significance.
does this underlined part refer to the future (will have no significance) or to the past (had no...)?
We've been given this translation assignment and I got stuck on this part.
Herr-Berbunch
05-21-12, 10:11 AM
does this underlined part refer to the future (will have no significance) or to the past (had no...)?
The latter. In the future there will be no sign of man left, as today there is no sign of pre-history.
Even that carrier bag will have gone by then. ;)

Me no nativ speak, but as you also speak German, this would be the equivalent of Futur 2,which is Future Perfect in English. The action from the past is already completed in the future.
I am sawing my left leg off. Tomorrow I will have had 2 legs.
thanks. The problem with Polish is that we don;t have any future perfect tense so I know that for Germans there is a correlation between these two (the Future Perfect and Futur Zwei :D) but it unfortunately doesn't work that way in Polish so my task is to adjust it to either the Past or the Present tense.
I've translated it as 'had no significance'' and that also matches what I found in the translation from French (original, bcoz this text is by Baudrillard)

Dirt roads, mudroads, pastures, ice, sand and even rocks, I've driven her she was a defender. Lost the exaust pipe two times, slamed the front bumper under the hood once and even knocked down small trees with her. But she keeps on running.
Why I call my car like it's a woman? Because the only thing that moody is a woman.
As long as she's giving you stirling service then that is all that matters :DL

Some loony snapped over here and started shooting people with two guns. Reason? Oh, you know, no particular, just go shooting random people in the middle of the night when they just happen to be at wrong place at a wrong time. Why, is there any other way to go? Two dead and seven injured. One of the latter being a graduating police officer doing her obligatory field training.
And now the usual show starts again. As soon as people woke up, they started blaming the police for being inefficient. For Christ's sake, the first patrol was there literally in a minute and as soon as they got out of the vehicle, one of them got wounded! What should they have done? Shot the guy, armed with a rifle and a fair distance away, dead with their pistols? They caught him in the morning, something like 6 hours after the incident. And that's inefficient?
And the media is all over the place again.
Yeah, a good Saturday to you too, Finland. :nope:

There was something in the air tonight.
I had to deal with some guy that limped into the pub at 11 PM claiming he had a car accident and had broken ribs. We called for the ambulance and soon the fire department and medical services were here and the strange thing happened. The car was nowhere to be found. And even more strange, the paramedics found not a bruise on him. He was drugged up like... theres no metaphore for it. Like he took ectasy marinated in THC. Bloody hell
@Vendor: unfortunately the women in these parts want heat, but only from the hot ones :shifty:

So... it looks like we have sold my mom's house.
Been on the market for less than a month, so it's kind of a minor miracle. From what we've seen and deduced about the buyer it appears to be a divorce situation with kids where the parents wanted to keep everyone in the same neighborhood and school district, so they were already looking for something suitable in that area. So, we got very lucky.
Anyway the one that's actually doing the buying is pre-approved and everything's been agreed on and papers signed and I think there is an inspection that has to be done within the next ten days or something, but unless something goes very wrong it's a done deal, closing will be in early July and we can start figuring out what to do with all the stuff that has to be moved or sold. Buyer is also interested in buying some of the furniture, but we don't know what or how much. Still, yay to that, less we'll have to worry about getting out of there.
Aaaaaaand my sister's insurance finally got everything straightened out with the hospital she was admitted to after her car accident last November, meaning that all the claims that she's been fighting with them about have now been paid and the medical care part of her car insurance actually paid her portion in full, so that's not hanging over their heads any more either.
Exciting stuff, if all goes well I could be completely debt free and looking for a condo/townhouse in a couple months! :woot:

frau kaleun
06-01-12, 05:39 PM
Difficult, no, because I've not been the one doing all the legwork. As far as selling the house, there's no real heavy emotional attachment there, the neighborhood has changed so much that it doesn't look like the place I grew up in any more. None of us want to live there, so basically it was just dead weight that was costing the estate money with every passing month. We're all just happy to get it sold so quickly.
I talked with my sister last night and she is already excited about me buying a place so she can help get it painted and decorated, lol. I hope she's serious, I've never painted anything in my life and wallpaper is a complete mystery. :O:

Went to the workshop today to do a bit of fiddling.
Found some model plates just lying around
http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/181203_458978290781360_1084170037_n.jpg
Cut them to size and glued them together and made a raw model
http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/547800_458973467448509_1810516323_n.jpg
And then trough some bribery I got my hands on some CAM programs and a CNC operator and work began
http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/282309_458973510781838_1474571314_n.jpg
And voila, trough the power of CNC and CAM technology and one liter of honey schnaps a model was born
