For trouble shooting purposes im doing another reintall of silent hunter. Going to go step by step again testing each step along the way and verifing some thing retarded like uplay is not active. Going to try without compatibility and with compatability enabled step by step testing till i find out exactly what is causing the issue. When i encounter a bug im going to take a picture of the bug and current set up. I will continue till the current state i was before or if i solve it im stopping there and listing exact details of what my configurations and set up are. If anyone sees the pictures and knows exactly what the issue is, please for the love of god help lol. Im on day 4 of debugging this running off 2 to 3 hours a night of sleep. Im tired, i just want the game to work right lol

Installed silent hunter 5, started up. Ran historical mission. No compatibility settings set. Ran normal no windows 7 no run as administrator no dpi. Did run with uplay offline. Everything works like its suposed to screen shot of tdc below.

Double verified that uplay was not active, checked task manager. Ran TDW patcher. Made back up, restored snap shot. Deleted main config. Started game
Game loads. Has open horizons title at top bar says "the wolves of steel v2.0.0" game version 1.2.0. Turned off window mode. Load historical campaign. Menu in historical after selection for mission specifics works and visible. Dont have black menu bug. Load "new merchant"
Have original posted bug/ have camera bug got stuck getting off scope
Turned on all compatibilty settings
Run as administrator

Run program again, very long load time. Uplay loaded silent hunter 5 small screen with spinning wheel in corner after 10 minutes no load. Ended task. Closed uplay. Reopened uplay. Went offline. Started program again. 15 seconds loads
Bug\feature still present. Tried custom difficulty / low difficulty etc nada. Exited. Loaded up 2.0.2/ and abunch of the other mods in the extras because screw it lol. Im sick of troubleshooting this. If this doesnt kill it im just going to fly like an ace

Its in the stock game. But frankly at this point im starting to not care lol. Im getting good enough again that i dont even need to chart out the contact. I can shoot from the hip and nail them 9/10 times

I forget if it shows the name of the ship selected in the manual in XO dialog as the mast height or not in TWoS. That's how little I pay attention to it. You may want to turn on the marked ship marker icon to confirm you've marked the ship you intend. It's in the extra menu just left of the digital clock, second button from the left. Use the circle to unhide it if it's hidden.
In any case when you open the ranging part of the XO dialog you should see the mast height from the manual fill in the number at the bottom (which you can also manually change) when you click the clickable text to send mast height to TDC.
Normally you mark a ship and when you mouse over the text in manual the text will turn black (otherwise will be gray and have Disabled tooltip). If the waves are high often the marking times out because you break line of sight with the ship for too long as the water sweeps over the periscope. Also it happens that sometimes a ship is clearly visible but it doesn't want to be marked in a buggy kind of way.

Its all good. Ive played TWoS before. Long long ago. I just remember having that secondary option and the id book was an extra. Kinda nifty like a janes manual while ur at sea.... Not sure if any of you got prior sub service like me.. Lol but that book is an awsome informative time killer(janes ships) its like a thousand dollar book tho

Just as I thought. I can not see any "unintended" issues on your pictures Nemesis, that's how TWoS with all the mods tweaks and fixes works. The only way to use stock rec.manual and to get interactive ship name in XO dialog menu is to use "auto ship identification" optional addon.
To save your and our time, I suggest you to check carefully TWoS documentation (faq and tips especially), changelogs history and also watch some TWoS YT videos, you'll find a lot of them... That will give you good idea about "what's going on"...:yep:

By the way , I've "smuggled" few new and cool features into existing v2.0.2 update for testing purposes , so if you want to check them out , re-download latest update and enable it per instructions.
The main novelty is my attempt to utilize rarely used radioman's ability to take bearings of static radio sources and to transform it into basic radio navigation . This will be really cool addition IMO to already existing real navigation...

....... Actually. Ur change log doesnt go back to when the last time i played lol. I got no idea when i changed this. I just skimmed thru it again.
Btw... When did you change the AI. And im not talking about the minor tweaks to planes. Im talking about the cracked out destroyer AI. The polish suck at depth charging but holy hell. They defintly can shoot. Starting a new campaign earlier i almost died in my first encounter. I was shadowing the polish task force after i reported there position in the very early morning. Ie 330 an on the 1st of September. And all of a sudden a stuka night raid hits them. And my friends with the pocket battleship show up.... Who does the desi decide to take a crack shot at......ME.....(the guy on the horizon out of view and the only one not shooting at him). One quick salvo in rapid succession. I hear the wiz. Followed by the boom boom boom..... Direct friken hit to my electric engine room, control room and radio room. The main pump gets knocked out, electric motors knocked out and ooooo boy did i have flooding.... I crash dived not knowing.... Almost didn't come back up once i figured out i sprung leaks and i took some crazy angles. And had no power.
I caught it at 70m. And managed to get weak propulsion back and even did a EMBT.... Lol yeah that was useless. Manually focused repairs to the pressure hull and main punp. By the time i got back to the surface it was noon and everyone was gone lol.... Whatever sets of mods you got installed to do that is amazing..... Thats how it really rolls lol

Is this implemented in 2.02? I have the 2.02 update "first version". We need to redownload it, I understand.

So quick question about the "North Western Approaches" misson. (And possibly any other missions if this happens to them too.) When I received this mission, my primary objective that i read in my Captain's Log stated that I was to "Engage any encountered enemy task force in your patrol area." Yet I had not received any specific patrol area like I had in the "Eastern British Coastal Waters" misson (Example like AN5515, AN 5460, etc.) Theses never popped up as radio messages or anything.
Then however the objective was completed and changed because you notice the "Finished" indicator in green, but the new objective was literally the same thing as before. I did this time receive a radio message however, that stated to patrol between Iceland and the Faroes for our warships to make their way into the Atlantic. I literally patrolled the whole straight without a single contact.
Now my objective seems to be failed because "Finished" is in red and I got a message to do my own patrol. Seems like the BdU got tired of not hear about any success. :(
Was I patroling the wrong are the whole time? If so, the game didn't specifically tell me where to patrol regarding the patrol squares like last time.
TLDR, Game didn't give me my area to patrol, failed mission because I didn't sink anything ships

There is an error in "TWoS Remove Sub Flags". This mod disables flags and the MG-34 in all uboots but in Uboot7b the MG-34s remain.
The mod is called " Remove Sub flags" and not "remove sub flags and machine guns" . I left them intentionally...:) Maybe you should rename your mod...

Hi all,
I am only now getting into SH5, after being disappointed by Cold Waters. I have installed your mod, but am not yet ready to jump into 100% realism. My question is regarding map contacts - I would like to see them on the map. I have changed the contacts appear on map under options, and have checked the boxes needed on both the nav and tactical map options. When I load the game, I see contacts for about 30 seconds, and then they disappear. This is off a save game where I have contacts directly in front of me at about 6km. Can anyone tell me why this is happening?

At wich point should I install the update 2.0.2 ? when I follow the instructions on the first page, after installing the big 2 Go WoS 2.0.0 Mod, the Mod installer offers me the update 2.0.2 already ...

Just installed SH5+TWoS 2.0 on Win 10 and everything is working fine, even without compatibility settings. :yep: So, guys with Win10 +SH5 problems, I really have no idea what could you mess up...:)

I can confirm Vecko's findings that I have been running all versions of Windows 10 including the latest Creator without the need of any compatibility mode.
Many people do not realize that although your GPU driver may be updated by Nvidia or AMD, Microsoft will still update your driver to the latest version.
This incompatible driver update can cause your game to show a black screen when the game is launched.
Rolling back the driver to the previous version (tutorial available) will get your game running again.
I would however suggest that you do run your exe applications as administrators.
I can also confirm that with Uplay removed, moving from one campaign to the next happens every time at the correct date and time without the need of any assistance.

The Creator update causes an error 0xc0000005C when runs SH5.exe in my installation, and the game donīt work. I donīt know how to solve it and I returned to the previous version of W10, without Creator. All fine with this W10, with all compatibilities.
I updated to Creator two times, reinstalled SH5 TWoS complete, and no solution.

One more question - on the second mission where you are tasked to sink merchants along the english coast the progress bar seems to be gone. How do I know when I have sunk enough tonnage?

The only problem I had after the installation was a driver one about a week after the Creator update when Windows updaed my driver to the incompatible 382.05 and I had totally black screens on all 3 SH games.
I rolled back my driver to the previous version and eveything is now ok.

That's exactly what happened to me with the Creater update on SH5 and SH4 but I did not try SH3. I have an ATI addon card. I restored my windows 10 installation prior to Creator. Games restored.
Now that I have a newer image back up I will try Creators Update again. I will keep Peter's (TheBerbster) suggestion about the driver rollback as a repair option, too. I had other corruption issues so I did not think it was just a driver.

Is report contact still working? Radio message in overall seems to not be working anymore. The shortcut is disabled and directly giving the order to one of the crew gives no results.

Direct X, GPU drivers or administration rights (or everything mentioned)...Maybe even SH5.exe compatibility options. All in all, it's system related issue mostly present in MS latest OS for mobile phones (AKA Win 10)...

Maybe you use antilag MOD?
I switched off vsync in the nvidia control panel, it is working fine now. But I do have some frame drops when i'm on the deck and looking around. Will this antilag mod solve this problem? Can you link me this mod? and is it safe to use with wolves of steel?

I have solved the previous issue by switching off vsync in nvidia control panel.
I have looked through the museum in the main menu, and I only see type II A/B and type VII variants up to C/41 for German submarines. So I will never be able to play in Type II D, VII/42, IX, and XXI? I'm new to SH5, and this is extremely disappointing. Also for torpedoes, will I be able to get some of the new types with faster propulsion and the one with active sonar seeking?

The only problem I had after the installation was a driver one about a week after the Creator update when Windows updaed my driver to the incompatible 382.05 and I had totally black screens on all 3 SH games.
I rolled back my driver to the previous version and eveything is now ok.

Is report contact still working? Radio message in overall seems to not be working anymore. The shortcut is disabled and directly giving the order to one of the crew gives no results.

Once you load your save game, You can use two (load and save) buttons at the bottom of your Journal page. DM can not be saved and I usually disable them completely trough map options since I play with real nav on. 0° L/L is a known glitch...

The driver I mean is Nvidia, not Microsoft. 382.53 GeForce Driver for the GC. I play with it SH3, SH4 and SH5, all modded, but in W10 pre-Creatror. In fact, I use the internal graphic settings of SH5, I donīt touch anything in the GC settings. The driver is ever autoupdated from Nvidia Experience app. I donīt have black screens; simpy an error message 0xC0000005C on sh5.exe (with Creator). I use antilag dll; I disabled it but itīs the same: Creator donīt want sh5.exe. I will try your tutorial.

You have to click on the Watchman in 1st person view to send reports...
Apparently, the shortcut ICON to do this doesn't function...

You can change the limits in the main.cfg, but TWoS needs the limits. If you have a great, really powerful machine, maybe you could play with more TC. Iīm happy with the original limits. Ever, with all the SH games, Iīm an slow player, I donīt like navigation or attacks in the time machine.

TWOS is set to a TC level by vdr1981 for a reason.

In order to reduce confusion, there's been few changes in the names of optional mods so you can re download the archive although the functionality is still pretty much the same. For example "TWoS Zones_Reduc. Fires and Expl" is now called "TWoS FX_Reduc. Fires and Expl" ect...This is not necessary step though...
Also, The Wolves of Steel 2.0_Update 2.0.2.exe installer has been enhanced with several more v2.0.3 WIP campaign layers tweaks and fixes so if you want to check them out you can re download the archive and enable it per install instructions...

Sorry Peter, I completely forgot about your question...
The point is, You can enable "The Wolves of Steel 2.0.2 Update" (or upcoming v2.0.3 update) anytime but you should continue to use "TWoS Disabled Campaign Restart Tweaks" addon until you receive new submarine in your current career. When that happens, disable the "TWoS Disabled Campaign Restart Tweaks" addon, load your previous gamesave and make sure to receive new sub with mentioned addon disabled.
Or, You can forget completely about "TWoS Disabled Campaign Restart Tweaks" and simply start HT campaign using "silentotto" cheat...

After my 6th patrol to Infiltrate a spy near Liverpool I also sank 4 ships for33,776 tonnes and docked on February 29th 1940.
This bonus tonnage may have helped to trigger the upgrade?
VIIB U052 along with 2 x twin flak guns (awesome).
Patrol 7 March 22nd 1940 and added your update 03B according to my notes.
Requested NWA Objective to Patrol AM0286 but did OW instead as limited mission time to complete.

New SH5 and sub sims in general, but I recently downloaded the Wolves of Steel pack and have really been enjoying learning how to captain a U-boat.
However I have come across an issue where I'm unable to use stadimeter to determine a target's range. I'm able to bring up the recognition book, but the option to "send mast height to the TDC" is grayed out with a pop-up box that indicating that the function is disabled.
If I try to use the XO to input the data into the TDC, the option to set the mast height manually is not selectable and the value is listed as "NaN" meters. Does anyone know if this is user error on my part or a bug in one of the mods?
I am running the Wolves of Steel modpack (with the update) and using the Realistic Navigation option. I have not installed any other mods. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

I'm ridiculously late to the party in this one, but someone on YouTube pointed me towards this modpack, and well.. wow!
Tried to get into sh5 a couple of times in the past but I hadn't really played since it launched, but this has really breathed new life into a game I always wanted to love, so have a salute from me :Kaleun_Salute:
Do have one question though, is there any mod to make the UI bigger?? I'm playing at 4k and the UI is really hard to see/read.
+I did chuckle when I saw a few bits of my interiors from sh3, if I'd have known they'd still be in use almost 10years after they were made I'd have done a better job on the meshes!

Regarding your problem, you should play a bit with UI styles and other UI related options via Options File Editor/Viewer (Dials, Hud ect) ,there should be shortcut on your desktop. If you mess up something just disable/enable main mod/s with JSGME.
TWoS 2.0 contains parts of both SM and SV interior mods organised as a whole and also further more tweaked for maximum stability and functionality.
By the way, i'm really curious to hear what parts of your SH3 work are contained within TWoS? :yep:

Looks to be the toilets, the little crew seating area in the fwd quarters and the crew kitbags... Heck I only realised they were my meshes when I saw the cheeky picture of Admiral Doenitz hanging in the toilet :p
They were probably just rolled in from someone elses mod, I did give standing permissions for them to be used anywhere, although never expected them to make it all the way to sh5!
In fact, after a bit of digging I believe they were used as part of this (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=200862) mod, which is listed as part of wolves.

Can someone point me to the different stats for fhe playable subs in this mod. Im curious what the max endurance depth. Speed upgrade hull dates etc. Also how crew skill changes stats. Ive looked everywhere but having issues finding this data

Taft jn exile a YouTuber is at million tons. Playing on easy mode and im trying to catch him usinf manual tdc to prove its better lol. Im at 290k in jan 1940. And utterly destroying the british capital fleet trying to leave scapa flow or heading in fo dock im patrolling the North western point of scottland to avoid mines but could really use these stats to max my patrol tonnage so would greatly appreciate the help

Ugh. Lol i hate rough weather. Not goimg to use the cheat for friendly waves. This mod is too. Real in. Heavy sea state torps on impact detinator litterally bounce off the bottom of the hull as the ship bobs and weaves due to heavy waves even with the fish skipping the surface lol
Never mind the duds i get in calm seas lol. Even with max torp maintance these fish suck lol. I swear I've killed an entire crew by the loud dink of a dud. 3000 meters away underwater you could hear a loud DINK. Just standing in the boat not on sonar. 15 seconds later my seconds later my second fish hit and blew. That boat sunk like a rock no D.C. no life boats it justs sunk within a minute lol. No joke this really happened lol.
When do torps get better?

First, love what you did with this mega mod, saves me like a week or more to find the mods I want to use and get them in order.
My question is can I select English as my main voices when I install SH5? Will there be any problems doing that with this mod pack?

Note that despite which language settings you've selected during game installation, TWoS will optimize your game for gameplay with English language texts and German voices. Other language combinations are not officially supported.
There is a unofficial English voices mod for TWoS somewhere on forum but I don't remember where...

Is this a known bug with vanilla game or with mods. I just installed SH5 for the first time on this HD and then installed this mod and enabled it and the patch. I followed instructions to the T.
So I started Campaign, saved, then loaded it at bunker. I went over to the upgrade officer and I was looking at Camo and I have all 3 available. The Tiger Camo, Training Paint and the Other Camo. I started mission, then saved. I have to go and change a few things in the OptionFileEditor. I was changing to have the different HUDs on screen to disappear when not being used. So I had to disable TWoS and the update and re-enable them on JGME.
I loaded the save where I was in bunker, then went over to Upgrade Officer and looked at camo and this time only 2 were there, the Tiger Camo and Training skin. Is this a bug with vanilla game and will that 3rd skin or 2nd camo appear later in campaign. Was it a bug where it showed it too early for me to get?
I deleted all the mods in the mod folder and reinstalled the mods and still it is the same.
I just assumed I need to install SH5 with German voices since that's what I followed in the video:

Thats just a stock glitch. Reload the game, maybe restart campaign. You save then reload in bunker and then save once ur outside of 60km of any port. They are spawn points and could cause game corruption.... I still do it anyways but typically i save on approach to a port im either docking at or trying to pad some tonnage because i got raped by too many duds on my load out. Approach greater than 60km(strongly recommend this because mines will friken pop up outta no where and kill you... Some times they are underwater and you cant see them and ur crew is retarded). Save again before shooting in case of death by time compression glitch where ships break physics and bounce and flip after sunk. Save on begining of exit... Again incase of rogue mines (scapa flow huge example there) and once outside of 60km. Having multiple saves helps incase one gets corrupted i dont lose much progress. I strongly suggest you do the same

OK, thanks. Yeah the other skins show up for purchase at start, if they don't I have to reload, maybe a few time to get them to show up.
I am sure loving this mod pack. Installed game, install mod and config some stuff and I up and running. I hated the old days of I could be doing it for a week and by time I got done, I didn't want to play. Now I am cruising around my uboat. I have been thinking about this game for about a year, but I was like I don't want to go through the mod install and figuring out the order and then find out some won't work well together. What aspect ratio? It's 16:9 by default and has mods for 4x3 5x4 and 8x5. If you're an even wider ratio maybe there is an aspect mod for yours around somewhere or could be made quickly.

Hello subsimmers,
Just popping in to ask a quick question concerning this mod.
I would like to improve the underwater visibility of the mod for eye candy and screen shot purposes. As it is now the only thing I can see on the event camera is murky water and maybe the tail end of a fired torpedo.
I can't seem to find a better underwater visibility option for this mod, nor any documentation on how to do it, so I have come here. I am assuming it will require some config modding and such but I have no idea what configs to alter to get the effect im looking for. Im kinda looking for something close to stock visibility. I don't mind the color changes and the murkyness changes that the Dynamic Environments mod adds to the this mod, they are just a little too intense for my liking.
On a side note, such visibility restrictions are usually only found in shallow water or stormy seas, without those two factors you can sometimes see up to 30 meters or more.
Thank you very much for this mod vdr1981, it has made sh5 playable again in my opinion, I even bought a non-steam copy just to play with this mod, and it was well worth it. :Kaleun_Thumbs_Up:

Got it to work again, i just had to wait a bit longer for it to load ;s
Anyway i cant seem to plot a course, my navigator has those options grayed out, is that intended?

The navigator will only plot your position on the map.
You need to plot your course by using the ruler.
Your boat is not shown on the maps if the real navigation mod is enabled.
When real navigation is not enabled you will see your boat on the map and you can use way points to plot your course.

I have real navigation enabled. The navigator can only calculate our position, the course plotting option is always grayed out.
Which is a pain when i need to maneuver through shallow straits (ie around denmark) because i need to constantly eyeball the shores.
Also i know that this mod is going for realism, but the nights never get that dark with the 70% of the moon being visible during clear skies ;s I cant even get the XO dialogue (space) in the middle of the night to enter mast height into tdc, even though im likely less than 2km from target

Check TWoS documentation folder for "how to use" OFEV instructions.
OFEV desktop shortcut should also be automatically created on first mod extraction...

You do understand that real navigation is completely optional feature ?
Use Battle stations when you expect contact(s) (smartly of course) to increase "awareness" of your watch crew and other stations...

Ok so a quick question... and please don't make me walk the plank for this:
I have very limited time for play sessions (between work , kids , wife)... I know way back in the day I found a way to re-enable contact tails... can some kind soul help me do this. I need my training wheels back :D and for now I don't have the time to use Real navigation and full manual TDC.
Barring getting tails (it doesn't take much to figure out course and bearing)..... I thought I had everything set right to NOT have to do the manual TDC, but it seems like maybe I don't. I can seem to hit the broad side of a barn. What settings do I need to make sure and set to turn off Manual TDC?
Maybe this holiday season (when I have 3 weeks off from work) I will hone my skills and take the training wheels off. I have tried a search for the last 40 min and cannot find an answer.

Just switch to SH3 UI style with Options File Editor Viever (check FAQ and documentation folder for "How to use" instructions)...
Faamecanic - Hold shift to access different types of gauges, F1 shows the keybinds.

Mainly in dials tab change values from 200 to 400.

Weather seems to keep getting stuck, conditions dont change until i reload the game, which randomizes the weather.
A couple of changes in wind speed and direction happen at the start, but after that it just stays absolutely the same for days...
Also, ships at longer distances appear to be sinking, sometimes only funnels are visible, is this how game simulates curvature of the earth? Because it doesnt really add up. I.e I can see the sandy beaches of a coast behind the ship that is half sunken, or if im in the open sea, the horizon line is a bit higher than the ship (or more like a funnel sticking out of the water)
Any idea what might be causing it? I didn't install any other mods.

Ok found out why my auto-tdc was shooting fish oddly...
If I hit Spacebar and my XO comes up...it seems even though I have auto-tdc enabled (manual targeting disabled) it appears to act like I have manual TDC enabled.
If I track my targets and just "point and shoot" torpedos without spacebar or X to lock target.... they swim true to the target.
I picked this up from VDC's video on the previous page where he fires off 4 eels rapid fire and hits his targets.
Once I have some down time Im going to play with manual targeting...as it does seem too easy this way..lol

It would be interesting to find out if this RAOBF mod is still available. I've been looking for something exactly like this to reduce the brightness during low light attacks. This is the most realistic version that I have seen.

Wow.... the DD AI is wicked!
Just sank a merchant off the east coast of Britain ...there was a DD just outside of visual range (had him on Hydro). Sank the merchant with a torpedo in one hit....was submerged. As soon as I hit him I went down to 40m depth and headed 180deg away.
That damn DD came after me like a bloodhound. Stayed on top of me for 3 hours. CO2 was at 11% and I was as far down as I could go (60-80M)... he just wouldnt leave me.
Eventually he got a lucky shot with his depth charges and blew my aft pressure hull. Partially my fault...as I was speeding up when depth charges went off for 5-10 sec, changing depth, changing direction.... I forgot to launch decoys (lol)...so maybe this would have helped...
How in the heck could they be THIS good at Oct 1939 :doh: :o Oh and why did my CO2 level start getting critical after only 2-3 hours? Seems kinda quick there.
No decoys available in 1939, and CO2 levels can go much higher than that in normal submerged operations, with no noticeable effects on the crew. They will climb faster with the crew on battle stations.

Odd with decoys ... right before I died I saw the deploy decoys option... hit the button and heard them deploy. Maybe jus heard them but don't really hav them?
So was I just a victim of a veteran DD crew? I just could not shake them. Stayed with nose or tail pointed at them, hit full speed or flank if it was directly over me or if depth charges were exploding (that should have made them deaf to me for a few seconds), changed course many times. Every time they would lock on to me and never leave. Anything else I could have done?
If this is 1939 I see little hope in 1942 and on!

Wish I could go to deeper waters... in 1939 my mission is at the eastern British coast (guess I don't have to sink ships there with a DD in hydro range and just avoid DDs). I was just shocked that I sank a ship (at periscope depth), dove to 40m, headed 180 away, and a DD that was at hydro range only and that DD made a beeline right for me. As if I was in the surface.
Only thing I could have done differently is head 180 away and rig silent running. Either way that DD WAS RELENTLESS.
I came across a Large Liner with an escort of 3 DD on the way to a patrol grid near Iceland, got in position and set up the solution and waited, popped up the scope for a peep and was a bit early, and a bit further away than estimated, approx 1500m, but fired 2 at the Liner and turned to the lead escort to find it already heading towards me, spotted in 15 seconds, so a panic shot and crash dive and then silent running, 6 hours later I was at all stop at 100m+ with all 3 still within 2000m 1 stationary and the other 2 searching, an hour later they gave up. Liner was 35011 tons:)
I had given up with the sim a long time ago, but thanks to all the hard work of the modders, and vdr for putting TWOS together and tweaking it to near perfection, it is a "SIM" now.....and not a mediocre game. :Kaleun_Salute:

What % CO2 does TWOS consider "deadly"?

This is part from mine addon for TWOS. I can post how a separate mod raobf and attack disk later.
I would very much appreciate if your RAOBF textures could be made available to download. I am using the older original textures which are "yellowish" in colour and not as bright as the "White" version included in TWoS.
I also replaced the Attack Disc's "Attack Course Pointer" with the original version as the current one makes it difficult to read the target AOB as the bug or heck shot markers partially cover the AOB scale on the target disc. Both versions differ from the illustration contained in the "Kriegsmarine Angriffsscheibe Handbuch" which looks like the ideal one for the attack disc.
You probably have this already, but if not the Attack disk handbook pdf is included with the TWoS mod and is located in the Documentation section of your Silent Hunter 5 main directory. :up:

So the CO2 warning was going off at 10% got me. This was 3 hrs in.
What % CO2 does TWOS consider "deadly"?
The crew will die when the analogue gauge adjacent to the helmsman reaches 10% or the UI bar gauge indicates 100%. This level is usually only reached after 30 - 40 hours submerged, depending on crew state. The UI CO2 warning button is incorrect and was tied originally to the broken analogue gauge which Vecko has since fixed in one of the TWoS updates to reflect the correct value.:D
^^^^ + they will start to loose morale from 10% of Co.
Eventually whole crew could become useless by morale lost..

Thanks all.... now I know ;) I knew it seemed like 3 hours and running out of O2 seemed wrong.
Last question... If you upgrade the torpedo man, does that still bug out your Auto-TDC? Specifically I upgraded the torpedo man's "maintenance" ability to reduce duds...and now it seems like all my torps are missing. It could be the ship spotted my periscope... but I just want to make sure.

I have an encrypted radio message that I think is buggy. I got

I decrypt NSMS QBCD as MKTN (group 367) DNNU. Hydra Oktober, 1st, gives
Beta-A, 4-Z, 1-P, 6-O wheel internals; plugboard 19/12 21/1 10/16 2/14 23/18 7/26 15/3 11/6 4/5 8/13; wheel position DEJZ. Entering key gives me decode wheel position LQHB. Message starts "Agents repor----" and then goes to trash.
By guess and check I found block "QSLS" should read "QKJZ" to finish the word report but after that I have no clue.
Also the "send to ship log" plain text summary doesn't work for me. It puts my enigma inputs into the right hand text area and not the outputs so it's worthless.

Yes I did open tubes prior to firing.
I think the ship was spooked and was weaving... reliefs to know... didn't want to have to start over :)
Now i can tell you i really love 30's music, sh5 gramophone and Mafia1 game made me love it :)
I tried even to find out tube headphone preamp which would be able to run old Valvo tubes which was used in uboten, but there is no amplifier to run such old tubes..
Original kriegsmarine Tubes are still to find at eBay...
I was eager to hear hydrophone through this, but it's impossible until someone create custom amp for these

Would it be possible to stop the LI from reading out depth reports after you crush? It takes away from the ambiance of dying when your crew is till talking.

I have (or had... will need to look for it) a full 2-4 hours of actual German radio from 1940-42. It included news reports from the front, a speech by Goering, commercials, and music.
VDR if you would like them to include with a future update let me know. it is very cool. Unless you are fluent in German and are in your sub after 1941 or so (the news reports would be very off)

For me is better to convert all radios and music to ogg format.

ok so this is my first time ill be going to a newer version. from 1.06 to latest 2.04. So do i have to go to fresh install and all that or do i just disable in
JSGME and then add 2.04 stuff in and enable and rerun TDW patcher for the 2.04 update ? start a new campaign of coarse.

It is advisable to have a clean install but IMO from experience it is not essential.
If I were going to start a new career then yes I would start again with a clean setup.
If you are going to carry on with your current career then no.
In the bunker.
Replace v1.06 with v2.00
Add update v2.04
Add any additional TWOS mods.
If you are going to continue with your current career so you can use your existing saved games then you need to add this patch last in JSGME.
TWOs Disabled Campaign Restart Tweaks.
This patch can be removed when you get a U-Boat upgrade.
You will also need to replace your existing patcher gps file.

My professional but rebellious crew likes American Jazz. For German music Beethoven Wagner and Richard Strauss. No propaganda music. We are the Kriegsmarine not the nazi party!

Had in the past , at the beginning mission in Danzig Bay (1939), a news from 1942. So i delete my old (own) Grossdeutscher Rundfunk file and using now the GDR file from TWoS 2.0/2.0.4.

Just saw the news reports are in the TWOS mod as well.. I assume you have to tune to different radio channels to hear them?
I think everything I have is also in TWOs... so I have nothing to add if that's the case.

I keep getting this error when trying to use the options changer program. I want to use the SH3 ui and I keep getting this. Also the options menu for the map is just black I get no text in it, I can see all the checkmarks but there is no text just a black background. I installed the direct X with SH5 is there another I need to install with TWOS?

So had a sale for sh5 so i finally bought it, imediately installed this mod, updae 2.04, real navigation and enigma thingy.
Can you reccomend any other mods that would be worthwhile to play with?
No exp in sh5 but i still have the sh3 with gwx and simply loved it.
Also how accurate is the sextant? As in could i use the tables and actually learn celestial navigation this way?

You can use the addon mods by Vecko, totally compatible with TWoS.
Also I use the Unscratched Optics mod (a cosmetic change) and a lot of radios and gramophone tracks.
It is not recommended to add many "others" mods to TWoS. The combination is autosufficient and you don't need to add nothing for a great gameplay and candy eye. The Rusted Glory mod (rusty skin) is full compatible, with a darkness interior. The Nozaurio's skins are also compatible.
For real navigation TWoS contains an scripted system (recommended). Also you can use the manual real nav and the instruments are accurate, "as real as gets".

Music and news are broadcasted on same frequency precised in radio.ini file but specific news audio files are further controlled in the appropriate events.ini file.

I think so. I have been using the radio for quite a bit (career is now in Dec 1939) and have yet to hear a news broadcast. Maybe I just have hit a trigger yet or was in base when the event happened for the news to be played.

In the "Silent Hunter 5\data\Sound\Radio\Grossdeutscher Rundfunk\Events\events.ini" file you can read/print all the time dates for the different news. So, for example first news on Grossdeutscher Rundfunk starts at 03.09.1939 22.00 oclock GMT time. Time compression should then be "1".

I speak german, i could help you/inform you when i recognize wrong time-news.
I used GR-Radio TwoS 1.06 when i had the news bug. Like i said, iam using now GR-Radio version TWoS 2.04 and the first news started at the right time. :Kaleun_Salute:

Need help here. I think I now have a bugged Enigma message.
Date message received is Nov 15 1939..message as follows
BDU 0259/3/10/1939 18_KZIK AAGE DWBC MYIJ KLNH LVNA TFDK JNET OOFQ IHIE RBXK JYDR UXRQCOIS IKUA KZIK AAGE
I found it odd I got the message on 15 Nov (this time it was in my patrol log for a different uboat? Vs mubrafio messages) but the code at the start says 3/10/1939 (Oct 3 1939???). I set up my machine for 3 October...and got garbage. Checked all settings again and still got garbage.
So I started setup for 15 Nov...but got a garbage cipher Key (Teil B = Triton) as I am off the west coast of UK in the AM grid.
Any enigma experts here help an old Kaelun out? :k_confused:
Edit: Just got another enigma message and it was dated 5 October 1939 (BDU 0259/5/10/1939 ) Yet my actual date the message received is 17 Nov 1939. I also just got a Objective complete to patrol AM0286, and my next patrol just shows as 1.....
I think Im having issues :( This is after a save and restart of game.

Yes I have read the FAQ and watched tutorials. I have sucesssfully decoded two enigma messages before this one. I even step thru one of the YT tutorial videos as I decode to make sure I don't miss anything.
I found it odd that the date in the message reads October 3 1939, yet received it November 15th 1939. The other two messages I successfully decoded were recived on the same date as the date in the message used to decode. (I.e. Message received 03 Sept 1939 and date in message said 03/09/1939)
I set up the enigma for the October 3 date as instructed and got garbage. So I tried Nov 15 and got a garbage cipher code.
I will try again tonight...maybe I set a wheel wrong.
Need help here. I think I now have a bugged Enigma message.

So I started setup for 15 Nov...but got a garbage cipher Key (Teil B = Triton) as I am off the west coast of UK in the AM grid.
Any enigma experts here help an old Kaelun out? :k_confused:
Edit: Just got another enigma message and it was dated 5 October 1939 (BDU 0259/5/10/1939 ) Yet my actual date the message received is 17 Nov 1939. I also just got a Objective complete to patrol AM0286, and my next patrol just shows as 1.....

On image you can see "plugs settings" based at 1939-10-03.
but it looks like you wrote part of the message wrong here it seams "IHIE" was wrong...

Edit: the IHIE part was correct.....put message in enigma and it was all good. So I buggered up a code somewhere.

Its date of writing, they cannot knew when your radio operator manage to receive it....

Not at all because grid patrol orders are predefined messages which can be repeated several times (they are randomly taken from the "secondary missions roster" to say so) . Sometimes you may even receive a "message from the future" although very rare...
Other encrypted campaign radio messages will mostly have the same encryption and reception date (occasional convoy/TF reports, base transfers ect)...
Vecko, you should remove "new" label from last version, it becomes irelevant for us who already have 2.0.4 for month ;)

You would be quite surprised how many people is unaware of my updates for TWoS (this can be visible if you monitor the number of main package and update downloads) so it would be good IMO to keep this flashing mark for some time, if not constantly...

Well mostly... the last message I decoded Said something like "Reposition to AN1386. Radius Two Zero Zero". But then descended to gibberish... so i must have missed a letter or something I guess.

Patrol mission from which objective? Eastern British Coastal Waters, NW approaches, SW app? This should be specified in your first radio message when you enter the designated area...

I think it varies. I have seen anywhere from 120km to 200 km so far.
So I usually set my radius at 100km to be safe :) as some of my enigma messages seem to get corrupt after the word radius.
Playing with Real Navigation and the Enigma machines, got sunk by some damn Polish warships, but since its my first real go with a lot of the realism settings, I'm not too bummed.
Now to get better at manual torpedo targeting :Kaleun_Cheers:

It was in the first patrol area you're given, I wasn't sure if they were warships until I was fairly close. Should have put my periscope down though, I would have survived otherwise!
But, lessons for the future (wouldn't have been bad if I had managed my firing solution correctly either :haha:). At least I managed to decode my Enigma message prior to that.
I never hit any of those destroyers at first mission in my career and i played it maybe 10x.
The point is, u-bote was not designed to sink them, in other hand, they was designed to hunt u-bote, so trying to attack destroyer is something like bet all in on one number in rulette - nonsense.
This is also one thing i dont like about das boot film - that attack of destroyer, which is more over hidden somewhere in fog. No mentaly healthy commander would try such a kamikaze try...
Of course if you have not 100% realism, you can let cpu calculate perfect hit, but this is not simulator... :salute:
