Hi there,

I was just wondering, why I do not have that full spec recognition manual as shown in the videos?

I have installed wolves of steel mod........am I missing any hot key or something?

BTW, also my ocean doesn't look that blue. What environment mod is that? =P

Oh, also...... when I clic to my "officers" faces in the main tool bar in order to pop up the white command buttons, their profile is always opened and it is kind of annoying. Any idea?

Tips for stable gameplay:

- Never overwrite old/previous game saves. Always make a new one...
- Try not to save game with AI units in your rendering area.
- Occasional save and complete restart of the game during long patrols is highly recommended (at least 3-4 game restarts per patrol)!

how did ubi actually think one could play 100% (or near to that, i keep the external cam nomatterwhat) without the, say Raofb wheel. or a hydrophone.
You took everything I liked from the older parts of the series (their mods, actually) and made it work in SH5. more than that: you made RealNav a reality, something former versions couldnt (because why? ubi included realistic stars and what was lacking? right, a precise clock - lol).
Dont tell me the snorkels actually work...

Thank you for bringing SH5 from a comlete disaster to something actually cool, playable, even desireable.

But enough of that, i fear your ego might explode and leave nasty stains.
I still have quite some crashes, but that is my system i'd say (it manages about 10 turns of Civ V before waving byebye). If I had no patience I wouldnt play SH in the first place.

But I do have a ... uhm... pressing matter at hand; I finished the baltic operations, relocated to kiel and cant choose another mission. it's September 3rd, am I home early, because the other missions start later?
Took me couple of days, and i'm quite happy with my performance (40kt on 96% realism), i am even willing to chea... I mean tweak a save-file or something.

it's there, just pres "E" and small "draggable" thing will appear on your left side of the screen...


BTW, also my ocean doesn't look that blue. What environment mod is that? =P Sea color is varying with your location in the world, time of the day, season ect...

Fire up TDW options file editor viewer and check options in officers tab IIRC...You can make order bar visible only when you hover pointer over them.

You're giving me to much credit. This megamod contains work from many different modders , just take a peak in documentation folder or credits from promo poster.:yep: TDW real navigation is available for some time now and credits for the most elegant mod in SH5 IMO, go to TDW only ...

Hello. I am not sure if anyone is following this mod pack anymore, but I figured I would let you know my experiences here:)
1st, The install is pretty darn complicated. Not of this mod per say, but the TWI stuff. I'm still not 100% sure if I did that correctly.
I have installed thousands of mods to different games over the years, and this ranks in the top 10 of hardest to install.

2nd, Got it up and running no problem. But ran across a game breaking bug that actually caused me to uninstall.
Torpedoes.... The ones that hit are 99% duds. I would say about 90% of torpedoes sent down range do 1 of 2 things. They either start a circular holding pattern untill they run out of fuel, or just go straight from the boat. That was the Tutorial experience, just testing.

Skipping the tutorial as directed, and doing everything correctly the first time. I got a CTD halfway to my first mission, so I tried the tutorial. After noticing the torpedo problem I loaded the Original save game and started testing torpedoes in the bay.
At longer range I had 5% of torpedoes just start the circle pattern. The other 95% were duds and bounced off all ships. Or detonated prematurely.

As this is promoted as a modpack for beginners..... I would have to say, just the TWI factor of the installation makes it not so. This is an advanced installation by all means.

Not that I am downplaying the hard work that went into this, and I am sure if I tinker long enough I will get it to work. my goal with the game is really to just get a better sinking, floating mod. Because 4 torpedoes to take out 1 small ship is not right. Even when I put 1 on port and 1 on starboard side. Little ships should flood on be done at that point.

Well, enough of my rant here:P Thanks for the hard work guys and gals, just not the right mod for me:)

Oh My .. I would think that any of the concepts of the mod would be difficult
for a beginner . However If you read and read and . re-read everything just might make sense . VDR Is just a player @ 100% REALUISM , AS IAM ALSO . But . getting confused and getting fustrated especailly when you have played at a other level would make sense . Now I have been following this thread ever since I have installed this mod , The only difficulty I have had is .. that at times hwne I add supermarls , Nav fixes and or were ghost ships are marked I have only gotten one ctd , as of late I have killed 2 mechants AND TWO DESTOYERS AND ABOUT TOo raid malta again befoe I go to the western med and enage my objectives , I play at 100% and I have before . to rant and rave and say blame otherwise should start with you asking yourslef .. what do I know about this game played at this 100% level , here are some links that and if you take the time and watch listen , learn and than come back and complain that you would have a rant to rant about .. I'm really sorry but if you explore subsim SH5 section a bit more you'll understand that it really cant be much easier than this. Easy installation like auto installer or something is still no go for SH5, there are too many things to be edited manually. like TDW patcher, main CFG file ect...Install instruction indeed assume that you're familiar with JSGME and how to enable properly TDW patcher and if you know that, 80% of job is done.

And yes, you have obviously messed up something badly during the installation, because your problems are typical for SH5 with incorrectly enabled mods, dud torpedos, circular patterns ect...

I can only hope that posts like yours will trigger someone with proper English language knowledge to create one video tutorial for the installation from scratch. That would be really helpful for newcomers...

Why or how I fix that my sonar man can hear farder than I can do in my sonar stack? I mean, he reports in, I go to verify personally, and I don't hear anything? Perhaps my sensors somehow are at double range capabilities, because also my watchmen can "see" ships almost 20km away!

Also, I was playing with external camera, I was at 30m. Had a cargo no more of 5km away and my sonar didn't detect it. :/\\!!

Oh, and where can I read or modify game keyboard hotkeys? I mean, how to know all the hotkeys not mentioned in F1 keyboard during gameplay?

If you read my post, I admit that I more than likely screwed up TDW installation. I was more stating the things that happened to me with messing up the installation. The funny thing is that I usually end up playing on about 34 to 35% realism..... I have never owned a boat, nor do I intend on owning anything larger than a fishing john boat:P
I like motorcycles, and both hobbies are expensive lol!
So because of that, I have no understanding of ocean charts, how to find targets and stuff like that. I just run to the mission area and start patrolling until I find something. That is another reason why I think this mod pack might not be for me unfortunately, as I really do LOVE simulator games and getting the full experience:)

Also, if anyone out there has this, speaks english and even if you don't want to make a video, Heck dummy the installation down to a pure step by step, and I will make a video!

I always love it when people get together to put large mod packs together. It's not easy figuring out what works with what, and how to make it crash free and fun to play....
My Morrowinf, Oblivian and Skyrim mod folders had between 150 to 200 mods for each game!!!!

So, as I said above, just to help new people, and because I have a great appreciation for the people that make these packs. I would love it if someone would be able to tell me a step by step for idiots on this install, then I can make a video and try to figure out how to upload it, or even send the video file to someone that knows how to upload it:)

I'm sorry, I was not phrasing right; the credit I wanted to give you personally was for finding exactly all the elements of previous-version-mods and mending them into one, conflict-free and not-all-to-difficult-to-install megamod.
All the modders who read my post please refrain from being angry with me - I will seek out your threads and thank you individually for the amazing work you did. until I get banned for spamming ;)

Thank you also for your help with my problem. I decided to load a save from mid-patrol and just take more time to get back (when is the next mission start-date, btw? Sept. 5th?) because my game really got really funny at the docks (all icons and buttons turning white, 1fps, my boat sunk, and ctd when talking to the commander after installing upgrades on boat).

Well getting consumed with the game and hunting I forgot these rules , and In my current campaign I got a ctd . yes there were Ai units in the area and yes I was tired and forgot these rules of play .. So take the advice well and its not the game this time but the operator :timeout: Good thing I saved a earlier date now I will have to hunt and get my grt back up again :)

Btw way the med campaign heats up . I tried to sink a british sub but failed . he did not turn to fight ,, one fish down after a miss .. enjoy all !!!~~~

I might have read its 20km. but i did read a lot. makes it pretty hard to have a "usefull" or lets say "recommended save in the baltic....
i found little saves even if near AI to be quite ok. but never. never use a savegame when theres a torpedo in the water. the impact will lead to a ctd. always.

I'm a big Op. Monsoon mod fan for SH4, and if it has an interesting and comparable sub list, I'll buy SH5 to play it.

Hey,

everytime i unpack the main mod folder, i get a report that a file named NSS_UBOATVII...TRA.GR2 or something like that is corrupt.

Exact error name:
C:\Users\...\The Wolves of Steel 1.02.rar: Prüfsummenfehler der Datei The Wolves of Steel 1.02\data\Submarine\NSS_Uboat7a.TRA.GR2. Die Datei ist beschädigt.

Translation:
Prüfsummenfehler der Datei (EN by Googletranslate= Checksum error of the file)
Die Datei ist beschädigt (EN=The file is corrupt)

has anyone else this problem ?

and is it possible to replace the stock faces with the alt w beards ?

I just wanted to say that I think this mod is the shot in the arm Silent Hunter 5 has needed for a long long long time. Open horizons was great, and having that as part of Steel Wolves, has so improved the game. Thank you to all the modders here!!!

You have to be very gentle with modded SH5...If you do that, you can experience more or less stable gameplay. Random CTD here and there is guarantied but nothing game breaking I hope...

With TDW patch enabled rendering area is increased to 80km around the sub. In the next patch I'm going to decrease this to 50-60 km.

Yes, few problems with hydrophones have emerged since I enabled TDW rendering patch. It appears that AI detection ability is much larger than player's. I would say that AI detection range is more realistic because it's documented that with GHG a good hydrophone operator can hear large convoy up to 100km away and lone ships to something like 30-40 km away IIRC.
However, something is wrong with player's ability to listen the sea traffic. I'm traveling tomorrow to my annual vacation(time to see some real sea waves, not only simulated:O:) but when I come back, I'll try to find some compromise between rendering distance and hydrophone settings...

You can check data/cfg/comads.cfg file... I think that's the file where all keyboard commands are assigned.

Lets say i will load MFCM as stand alone, take the needed files to have alt w beards, put them in the correct paths before installing wolfes of steel and it has to work.

I think 2 or 3 years ago i made something like that before.

I'm almost 100% sure that it will work :yep:

I will give it a try at weekend and will report the results.

What about the officers command problem? Any idea? it's really frustrating to click any command and the officer's profile automatically pops up........ :hmmm: :/\\!!

hmm some things are still a bit confusing for me. this week i had see one whale , and in a distance of some km the whale had send a message: periskope sighted at ...... than in the little menu where you can calculate the position on the map, there is the button for the weather , than right of this comes this button with the little stars. if i push this button it comes the same sound as i would push the button for the weather.is there a way to edit this a bit ? so and yesterday i had "meet" a huge convoy on the way to america , september 1940. with a escort of 5 vessels or so, one was a lend-lease destroyer. well i had hit this destroyer with one torpedo near the stern mast, so the stern was cut off and sunk. but the bow section of the destroyer dont sunk and was not marked on the map as destroyed and it still had fire on my periskope , so i had to fire a second torpedo on it. is this something normlay that sometimes parts of the ships dont sunk and still can fire / attack you with the deck guns ?

1. Whale-dispatched messages: this is due to the fact that whales and dolphins were set in game as ship units, and TDW's New UI's randomly spawns "scope spotted" messages, whenever there is a ship in our vicinity. I know TDW has planned an improvement of this feature, where ship messages can be intercepted when nearby ships are equipped with radio gear, and they have actually spotted an enemy.

2. Weathe report button: I am not quite sure I have got you. What do you find confusing about this feature?

3. Bowless ship not sinking: I remember having read a merchant ship sinking report on uboat.net (I thik it was about ab american cargo), where the ship was torpedoed on the bow section but still able to sail home without it :yep:

hello gap :) to the 2, ähm i press the button with the weather, than it comes : wetterbericht gesendet. if i press the other button for the calculation of the position where the little stars in it , it comes the same sound. to point 3..... i guess it could be if the part of the ship is small enough that the software think it is "just" a bit more demage and so the unit is not dead or so. :D

Hello, I would like to ask, If it could be possible to step a little bit back with the realism in your mod.
I like it a lot but its too much for me, I would like to have the Contact Informations on the map back to plan the attacks more and the automatic TDC I often used in SH3/4. Is there any possibility to achiev that?

I'm trying out Wolves of Steel and one thing I really seem to miss is that handy pullout book for identification. Trying to identify with all these random charts in german is...difficult for me.

I've dug through the options and I'm curious if there is anyway to go back to the book version?

Also, anyway to switch back to English language crew voices?

EDIT: Fixed for the first one. It seems what had happened was the saved location for the book was somehow off screen, so deleting the page position files in the root folder caused it to be recreated and I have the book back!

Can someone help me?

Thanks for this mod collection! Works apparantly without problems (also installation was quite easy).

Just one suggestion: Maybe include the fix for the wrong names on the map from here:

My mini map, which avaliable in bottom of left corner is disappeared, i see only a borders of this mini map, but nothing in center. When i press M i see full map, it's working fine, but when i wanna use mini map in periscope for example, i see only a borders of map, not map. If someone knows what the problem, please help me. I just can't see them after placing them on the map, the faded gray is just too light, or washed out, or what ever for me to see. If I could make them a bright red, or blue or green it would be great. Any way to do this? I notice if I right click on the tool I get options to adjust colors, but upon "x"ing out of the window, nothing happens, and the color stays the same.

I don't know how it could be done but i tried to get this to work a couple of times my last attempt started but was a mess i couldn't see my sub anywhere on the map kind of makes it hard to play. What I'm asking is if i could pay someone to log on my computer and do it for me? (paypal)

This is because of the Real Navigation mod -- you have to keep track of your own position by yourself.

Fortunately, your crew helps you with that. Just order your navigator from time to time to give you your current position. He can either do this by dead reckoning, or by using the sextant (in calm sea at night). It will take about a minute, after that you have a mark on your map with your last navigation fix.

This works fine and is not so difficult, once you got used to it.

You can change the colors by using tdw's patcher. It's quite easy to use, there are even stickied tutorials you can read.

you are going have too work on setting the coreect patch .. you d/l a digital copy , I assume it is not the steam version . but read the above post for step 6 and you should have the correct formula , as far as step 5 if you have the steam version its is not important

I am in first campaign in British waters. I request my missions.......go on patrol, sink some ships, but my progress bar is not registering my tonnage, but when I exit or end a patrol, the patrol status screen has the count........but not the progress bar in the game map.

What's going on?

Actually, I just figured it out that when the game reports a sinking ship (log book or map sunk ship icon), it won't count in the progress bar, and when it is not reported, it is registered in the progress bar. :/\\!! :/\\!! :/\\!!

Help please, there's no point to continue my patrols and sink ships if my progress is not going to be taken into account. :timeout:

Well I've probably broken something.

I installed the mega mod as per the instructions today, but I keep getting a black box in the center of my screen that won't go away. The upper left quadrant of my screen is also blank. It's like the Mediterranean Sea to my U Boat. Everything in there disappears and never comes back.

Also, trying to speak with anyone brings up a dialog box telling me they are injured and offering no dialogue choices.

Can anyone help me fix this? Have you seen it before?

Question for you is do you have any other mods installed ?

What version of SH5 do you have .Steam Or Otherwise ?

Sounds like you have speech recongnition that will bring up that black box on your main screen , if you disable it that box will go away after you start again

when Installing the mod if .. you have had any other instances of saved games and you were using other mods those games will be configured to your last mod list , You must install this mod(WOFS) on a clean patched version of 1.2 , and you must delete all previous saved games located in My documents / Sh5/data/cfg/savedgames and also rich saved games .. You must also be in the offline mode for ubisoft or otherwise , ubi will re-install your previous saved games and you will get eitier a ctd , or a screen which looks like yours atm.

I pulled a fresh copy of the game down from Ubisoft, then I made a backup copy :oops:, after which I reinstalled the mods. Everything worked great, so I assume it was a pebkac error.

Then I made history as the first U-Boat to be sunk by Polish fire.
Wow. I think this mod requires a rethink of my strategy :har:

My sound man had me killed. My first patrol in 1940. I had a little over 26,000 tons to my name, and no torpedoes left. What else to do but head home, right? My request for resupply a few days earlier was denied.

So I fired my last two torpedoes into a very large troop transport and was safely beneath the waves of the 32+ unescorted convoy. However, some of these merchantmen had some large weapons, and with as many as there was, my u-boat would not have a chance if caught.


However, every 4 seconds the soundman was announcing NEW CONTACT BEARING X. To the point that the game had glitched and he was on a constant repeat. I'm not losing this career. I can stand the new contact bit over and over again, right...yeah. Mute speakers. Ok...New problem...I can't skip time. It won't let me go above 8x time compression for over 1 second before I'm dropped back down to 1 times time compression.

Safely beneath the waves. No escorts to worry about, but those merchants are armed and I don't have the 10+ hours real time to piss away in 1x compression.

So I surface at ahead flank and make a desperate run. I'm gunned down and lose all depth control, hit the bottom of the seabed and wait for everything to be run down for about 20 minutes realtime before I finally lose the sub and my (for me) successes. Needless to say I nearly broke some things. I was absolutely livid.

Why in the name of everything holy was my soundman constantly repeating contacts, especially when I had him on normal sweep. To the point of nearly driving me mad and forcing me to mute my speakers.

AND WHY IN THE NAME OF THE EARTH did time compression keep forcing me back down to realtime?!?!?!?! There was no *******ing reason for that! Travel mode was on. TCX on any message box message was enabled, as was TC1X on messages DISABLED.

Clearly I have a mod setting borked somewhere, but it was EXTREMELY frustrating. AND I lost a successful career in the making.

Plus if I ever hear the phrase "New Contact" in German again I might puke. :damn: :damn: :damn: :damn: :nope:

Am I missing something? Or should I get disappointed and start to think this game will never be playable? Have I just threw 20 bucks (steam + DVD versions) just to the trash???

Well, since my first posts about no tonnage recording....I just figured it out that this happens either way I am close or not to the AI......also that depends on how close you mean......... For example, my last save......was about 10km away from a unit.......sunk it (first ship in my "career")......no recording........I reload the saved game again........in which I was supposed to have cero sunk vessels...........and there it was in the map the mark of a destroyed one (where it came from?)..........:/\\!! :/\\!! :/\\!!. That has happened to me a lot..... Also, sometimes the message white box register sunk vessels, sometimes it doesn't (when it doesn't, my tonnage is not reflected).......but they are always registered in the capt's logbook, so when I quit a game, the last screen does know I sunk them. (within my patrol area)...

About 5 and 6..........yes, I did it correctly, I changed some stuff though, (not big deal)........just map colors, mouse in, mouse out stuff...........none "advance users" options......changes did took effect...........

if doesn't show the sunk ship tonnage then u have enabled some features from Advanced section in TDW's generic patcher ....
If u have the latest version of TDW's Genericpatcher do not enable patches from Advanced User.
If u don't have the lates version of TDW's GenericPatcher then do not enable the fallowing patches:
- Disable Orbit Listener checks in main game loops
- Disable Orbit Listener account sharing check
- Render Patch ( from rande patch u can enable the fallowing patches 1, 2, 3, 10, 11, 13,14 )

u have made a backup for the patched files ?
try without any mods and any enabled patch ....

i didn't said that yoy game is not legal ...i have said that non legal games have the same problem

first try without any patch and mods then try enable 1 by 1 from patches...
and at last 1 by 1 from mods

u mean the TAI map ?
there i littel yellow knob in the Left side of the UI under map tools from where u can show/hide the TAI map...

I know but the TAI map is transparent. Only the border with the blue triangles is visible.
I installed the modpack as descriped in the first posting but without real navigation and without resolution patch.

I know but the TAI map is transparent. Only the border with the blue triangles is visible.

Teleporting on crash dive is a feature of NewUIsTDC. Configure it with the OptionsFileEditorViewer in data/Applications. For order crash dive you have to be inside the sub.

This was the crucial point! :up: Not only the teleporting also for the TAI map! You can adjust the size of it there. It is set to "0". That's why it is "transparent". Thank you very much!

i didn't said that yoy game is not legal ...i have said that non legal games have the same problem

first try without any patch and mods then try enable 1 by 1 from patches...
and at last 1 by 1 from mods

I'll give it a try.........another noob question, for restoring backup, is just a copy paste pf the original files? Or do I have to do it with the patcher?

I follow the tutorial on how to use the patcher, but it still comes up with the same issue. It refuses to patch half of the files, saying I have an outdated version of the patcher. I don't have the steam version, as I know that doesn't agree with the patcher, so I'm kinda at a loss.

Just download this mod and install it after Wolfes of Steel:

After a few years since my last try at SH5, my longing for late nights of stalking convoys (like in my SH3 days) has led me back to try again...plus seeing the first comprehensive all-in-one-mod! Big kudos to all the contributing modders!

I installed everything last night and all seems to be working fine so far. I just have a few questions:

1. Where is the gramophone located? (One of the nicest part of patrol is surfacing once cleared of danger and enjoying some fresh air and treating the crew to some music.)

2. Is there a key for depth under keel? Is there a keyboard map for TDW's UI or are the bindings all stock?

3. I watched the tutorial for Full Realism Engagement 2. It was very helpful, but is there another tutorial (voiced) or PDF somewhere explaining how to determine AOB and use the stadimeter to determine range properly?

4. The mod list looks pretty comprehensive, but are there any other compatible mods that users recommend to replicate the SH3/GWX experience as best as possible?

Please excuse me in advance if these questions have been addressed elsewhere, but after quite a bit of reading and Google searches, these questions are still unclear.

There is a little button unter the depth buttons on the left side.
When you press [F1] you can see the keyboard info.

Thanks. I saw the keyboard there but wasn't sure if it was stock only or accurate with the TDW UI.

As for depth under keel, too bad there isn't an actual keyboard command. I was hoping to use Voice Attack for that command.

I have the same problem with your key-commands: When I press "C" for diving the compass appears too and when I press "T" it activates the radio too...I think there are some problems with the UI, so that some commands have only one key :hmmm: Any other suggestions?

Hi quad,

after you installed WoS with the JSGME you can find a folder "TDW generic patcher..." in the install folder of SH5.
Run the TDW generic patcher. It will ask you for some requred paths of some files. After that you can see a list of patches but you don't have to activate them one by one. Just load the snapshot and it will activate the required patches automatically. The Snapshot file is included in this mod.

The scope has a waterline indicator...make sure your scopehead is only just above the waterline.
Also, with enemies near, it's better to pop it up every now and then.

I like this mod-combination very much, but unfortunatly I have some problems with the crash dive function...When I use the button from the TDWUI the crew stays on deck and the hedge from the conning tower stays open. When I use the hotkey the door closes correctly and the crew moves inside, but unfortunatly sometimes too late...I searched for this bug and found out that it belongs to the stock game. I tried to use the crash dive fix from rubini http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=192938, but it didnt work correctly...it changed the speech and activated some older version of the recognition manual from the beginning in the bunker...Is there anything else I could use?

There is a 22sec time delay for this function. In this time you get teleported to the persicope but nothing else happens.
In the OptionsFileEditorViewer I set the time delay to 0 and removed the teleport.
It's working fine for me now. (But first you have to leave the bridge manually.)

Hm... no that's a different behaviour for me. When I left the periscope with ESC then I was standing beside it as normal.

I do not close it, it closes automatically. But the crew is still outside when the water is flooding the bridge because the animation is to slow. But finally they all came in through the closed hedge. :D

Ok, I am stuck on step 6. What data folder am I looking for exactly and what do I need to change? When I open up the data folder in SH5 there is no Applications folder so I can not proceed with the next step. Please Help, I am stuck on step 6 of the download. Thanks guys.

I had really many CTDs today... I attacked a aircraft carrier with about... 12 Destroyers (no risk no fun :doh::doh::doh: ) and after sinking the aircraft carrier i was about 122m deep the destroyer have throwed Waterbombs and my Game crashed constantly :(

You have to make these changes to set a limit to the timecompression for example in habour areas...its because higher TC causes CTD...I remember somebody said once: "play it slow with TC low"...to avoid CTDs (its sobers motto and it works pretty good)

if u mean the bearing tool that that one is from TDW's UI u can disabled from the right top corner ....
but what i see there u have messed up the mods cos the real navigation is enabled too ....

Haha Yeah i thougt that it was messed up.
The sh5 patcher is messing up my game CTD's so i tried to use the original sh5.exe.
Now it looks like this

Anyone got a idea howto disable real navigation?

So I can't believe it happened, mods finally came to fix this hunk of junk and made it good.

at least I thought so. MAjor graphical issues, the enemy boats seem to look half sunken from a distace and also look to be skidding across the water the against the current. Its very weird to look in ext. view.


Finally, WTF is up with the escorts? its the first mission, 1939 and its POLAND for god's sake and I have my scope .00001" out of the water and these guys just blast me with guns like they are laser shooters from star wars,lol.

They pound me over and over, my uboat is shot to hell yet I can sink to 450 meters and still be alive, I never seem to die, lol

is this a major issue? Or did I install something wrong?

Those are indeed settings in the patcher, but i think you need a mod to enable them, but I am unaware if such beasts exist yet.

Tried applying this mod pack to SH5 running under Windows 8.1. BAD mistake when I noted several issues including CTD but more importantly "Winny 8 no likey moddys on SH5". Bunch of registry issues besides everything else. Switched back to Windows 7, installed first time without a single hitch after following the excellent OP's instructions and all sub instructions for GME and TDW patcher.

Runs as smooth as the underside of my little subby just before I cracked it in two on the ocean floor.

Fantastic modifications and mega kudos to all involved in bringing this together. Am really feeling the Real Nav ambience. Never used the Navigator and Chartroom so much in my life!!

Love it to bits...

Hear hear, this mod makes SH5 the best in the series IMHO. Thanks to all the modders who's work is included here. Real nav is a learning curve, but great once you're used to it. Pity there isn't something similar for SHIV but you can't have everything, the TMO mod is the business for that sim!

Would love to do that, but the icon in question is not there. I see a square totally black box alright but it is not clickable and is not even faded grey or anything.

Does anyone know what the problem may be? Everything else in the Mod is excellent and works 100% except for this. I struggle to identify ships by sight at long range due to questionable eyesight so would find this feature very helpful in my Real Nav learning curve.

On closer inspection using file compare tools, the existing Page layout.ini has 16793 lines of code and the native one from "NewUIs_TDC_7_5_0_TheDarkWraith" has 16256.

So I've spent my time since 8 o'clock this morning, till now 9 o'clock in the evening, watching videos, reading forums and manuals, reinstalling and digging deeper into the mod. Im not going to read 39 pages looking for an answer that may not be there. (Google found a post that was dated des 2013. And that did not work for me.) So Im sorry if the question has been asked before - I tried my best.

Is there any way to enable the "Ship recognition" command for the weapon offiser?

I have no problem with the real navigation and so on. But spening hours just trying to find out what Im looking at so I can get a mast height and draft... I guess Im not that an "average" (as the descirtion in the first post says) sub-sim player. I rather use my time on math and geometry.

No, Auto. target recognition is disabled for realism purposes. I don't think it's realistic to identify the ship 20 km away just by clicking one button...Sinking enemy shipping is is already to easy...

I really wanted to use this feature within this Mod as my eyesight is not great and I really do struggle with keeping enough distance so that enemies don't notice me, but still get close enough for my old mince pies to make out which stack is which and which stern is that.

on the wolfes'steel'File but think that you have to rename from that position to the end of the file all the [G3F IXXX] descriptions.. i mean you cant insert that code at the end of the file.. you need to do it exactly before the 'Name=Bkgr' zone. And rename all the G3F from this to the end of the file..

i dont know why just replace the file it doesnt work for you.. cant help you anymore surry :) thats all i know about it

A little thing im looking for its how to change the ruler lines color.

on my pc, the grey ruler lines, marks, etc on the map is too light color for me.

it could help a black color, i think it will be easier to see.. but i have no idea about how to make all the lines on the map "darker color"

does any1 knows how i could do this little change?

You can do this in the TDW Generic Patcher. See image attached for details. Just start Patcher and click File --> Open and it will ask you confirm the 9 patches you previously used during the TWOS installation. Just click yes each time until you get to the image I attached. I have opened my "Change 7" for you. Note: You need to double click where it says "IsColor: True" to bring up the colour box. Select your new colour and you are all set. Don't forget to enable that particular change (right click "Change 7" for example and select "Enable")

I've been reading about other players encountering the issue related to sinking merchant ships within the designated patrol areas and the tonnage bar not recording.

Many posts indicate the reason being that Advanced options were enabled by using TDW's Generic Patcher.

I'm experiencing the same issue with the tonnage bar (Black Pit and Turning Point) and I don't see the related Advanced options as being enabled in my Patcher instance. All Advanced options are disabled ...:timeout:

Any ideas what else might be causing this problem?

You could insert the code:

And rename all the G3F from this to the end of the file.

It took me about 4 hours of research (because I am not a good scripter), but what I did do was use Notepad++ (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=1698) with Python enabled in it. I then made up a Python script using a search and replace string which automatically renamed all the G3F entries from that point untill the end of the file. All I did then was copy in your code.

You can't just replace the file because other mods inside WOS have already alterred the Page Layout INI file. If you want to see this use a file compare program and you will see that the file is over twice the length of the original.

Only thing I was wondering about, is that when I start a new campaign, I only can choose the poland mission. There is no mission available at the british coast. Is that normal? Or did I install something wrong? Hope someone can help me out here

Sticking at the end would be far, far, far too easy and not in the true spirit of Mods :har:

I did mine using Notepad++ and it's built in python manager. I wrote a query string in to it as a script and ran it once I placed the cursor at the right point in the INI file. Simply copied in the missing block at the right place then. Am at work so can't demonstrate this now. Would like to post some screenies when I get the chance if that's ok with everyone? :up:

By the way: Is it realistic that the hydrophone gets damaged below 120m?
I'm using the T shaped hydrophone in front of the deck gun. Should I use the other hydrophone type mounted in the bow?

lol....it's an official game..... I can assure you that......... Yeah,I have my backup........so, should I try patched and unmodded.........modded but not patched it or with none of those options above??

I couldnt get it to work either. I ended up playing with the patcher all day and got it by updating the 168 patcher and I disabled these patches:
Camera can switch views to land and air objects
Disable intro movies
Air to Air combat

The others are all selected except the all the advanced users, map colors, experimental.

Now the bar updates.

Again, thanks for all the effort put on developing this very good mod.

I have the following challenge when attacking a convoy:

After manually entering the fire solution in the TDC (speed, range, AOB, etc) and firing the torpedoes usually I get a good hit.

However, after manually entering the solution for a new target, all the torpedoes miss ...

Do I need to 'reset' something ? Please provide your advise.

I really like the mega-mod, I was fed up of SHV due to the daunting mod soup it needed only to become playable, now thanks to this work I am into it again! :D:woot:
I appreciate a lot the real navigation, it's really immersive and make the sim much more credible! :up:
There is a little detail I really hate of the last silent hunter, with stock version the ships sink always in the same unrealistic way, so I used to add this mod to my old soup:

It's really good and makes the result of an attack much more interesting, and I would like to add it to the already cool Wolves of Steel mega-mod.
I fear instability though, so I would like to ask you, kind developers, if you think I can do that or maybe this is a bad idea, or maybe you can try that one out and add it for the next release, if that's possible :06:

Getting a permission denied message on mediafire, seems to be something to do with the Das Boot music, copyright claim maybe?

I have a decent mod soup set up but haven't played in a while so I have old versions of important mods, saw this and thought I'd give it a go as I don't really want to dissect my install yet again.

Hey,

Today i started the campaign in the first mission, i came across 3 german ships fighting 2 polish ones.
in the end of the battle the victors left, and there was a burning ship left ..

I had to go quickly so i saved the game , ofc as expected i came back later and the ship was 100% repaired (reload game ofc).

Now i try to continue and after sailing like one hour, i come in range of a enemy harbour .. at a certain point my game keeps crashing, always around the same point.

I wonder if this is cause i broke the rule "dont save when AI is in render area" .. i actually hope so tbh so i know its my own fault .. but i find it wierd cus the "repaired ship" is already long gone when i see the harbour ..

I'm triying to play with this mod but it seems impossible...
i'm following the instructions of the first page of the post but when start a new career it takes a lot of time loading (loading screen with paints of ships and the little radar spinning) and then instant CTD :wah::wah:
I tried to install it on two different sites, different hd but nothing changes. Without the mod the game runs with no problems. My system is windows 8.1 64bits. Monitor resolution of 1680x1050. My version is dl version from ubi, not steam. Ubi in offline mode.
¿Can someone help me? :/\\!!:wah:

1st start a campagne without mods installed. The tutorial starts, you are waking up in the bed. You don't need to finish the tutorial, just save and close the game as soon as you can.
2nd open the file and change the value to true.
3rd install your mods and start a new career. Delete the old savegame.

Still CTD , I put my disc in and load game and go through all the steps, I get to Step 5 and when I am clicking through the GenericPatcher to set paths to Silent Hunter 5 I get error msgs on each one saying each one isn't the one expected * ? Don't know if its because I only loaded WOS 1.2 and 1.2 patch 5 and the 16x9 res

* example - File C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter5\SHSim.act is different version than expected and its the same for each one I was going through ..

i don't know if it is my Exe ? but it would seem so because i get an error msg when I use TDW Patcher. When I put my disc on and install the game I it auto updates and then I get the UPlay upload which say I have the Gold version.

When I use the TDW patcher to route to the SH5 top fold, I get error msg for 5 of the 7 and at the end I only have 2 showing and 1 of the 2 isn't even on the original list Kernal patch isn't 1 of the original 7 on the screen shot of what you should see at the end of using TDW Patcher. Only the Sound one is one of the original 7

anyone know why my SH5.exe is coming up with an error when doing Step5, one of the errors I get.

I have the original game disc, its not Steam. I load game in and it auto updates and when Uplay comes up it says I have the Gold Edition ? has that anything to do with my SH5.exe not being compatible with Step 5 ?

Yes when install finishes , I got the long bar saying update after that install I go to Uplay and says I have the Gold Edition.

I do the text steps, start the game stop the game I do the true edit Step4 and then load via JSGME 1.02 and 1.02 patch 5 I load them in and then I go to step 5. As per the screen shots on the front page I go through the next steps but that is when I get the error msgs on the SH5.exe and other parts. So when this Step is completed I only have 2 patches added not the 7 as per the screen shot for Step 5 and only 1 of the 2 showing relates to 1 of the 7 on the Step 5 end screen shot and that's the - TDW_SHSound_Patch.s5p (shsound) the other one that appeared with it was .. TDW_kernal_Patch.s5p (kernal) which was not one of the original 7 of Step 5.



ps .. just noticed, the end screen shot of step 5 on page 1 , part of the line reads ..
\MODS\TDW_GenericPatcher_v_1_0_151_0 where as when I finished the couple that took read \MODS\TDW_GenericPatcher_v_1_0_164_0

Would that have anything to do with it ... really want to get this working.

Ok, got it working with a 3rd install ... but oh lord times have changed, 1939 I sail to the east coast of England and along comes a merchant 7.8k tonnes bow large gun with 2 smaller ones beside, behind that just front of midship another 2 large guns 1 port the other starboard and at the stern 1 large gun with 2 smaller guns 1 either side. If that wasn't bad enough, she was coming right at me, bow shot Boom! slowed down not at all, ok but surely down a bit in the bow and a bit slower , no is sped back up. Next shot just aft of midships port side and another just behind that one, still going at the same speed. As she sailed past, I sent my 4th fish up her rear couldn't see any damage but after about 30mins she started to slow ... took a 5th to put her down.


Now with me just starting it still had the damage bars - both bars were still over half way up with 4 fish in her - 1 in bow 2 in port side just aft of midships and 1 up the rear.

Maybe I've been away to long, but is that not a bit much .. and that amount of guns on a merchant days into the war ???

Doubt it, uk only had 9 but not 1 of those 9.

Q-ship would appear to be an easy target, but in fact carried hidden armaments.

These guns were in open areas, not covered, Q-ships were designed to lure uboats to the surface as its guns were hidden, these were clearly not.

Is it a different mod from Wolves of Steel 1.02/1.02 Patch5 that you need to activate the crew icons to click for each area .. ? as you can see the top shot is from the internet of WOS the one below is what I have after I installed WOS 1.02 and 1.02 Patch 5 .. the "plastic" cover over the map is to size in the top 1 but in my install the plastic cover doesn't cover the whole of the map and it has a 360 dial imposed on the map and I don't have crew icons or some of the others .. I can't see where I can add these from the mod, so are the other icons in the top screenshot of WOS a different Mod that's been added with JSGME?

i don't know if it is my Exe ? but it would seem so because i get an error msg when I use TDW Patcher. When I put my disc on and install the game I it auto updates and then I get the UPlay upload which say I have the Gold version.

When I use the TDW patcher to route to the SH5 top fold, I get error msg for 5 of the 7 and at the end I only have 2 showing and 1 of the 2 isn't even on the original list Kernal patch isn't 1 of the original 7 on the screen shot of what you should see at the end of using TDW Patcher. Only the Sound one is one of the original 7

I had similar error, but then i tried to kill my AV software....and lucky no errors at all :woot:

When I open "TheDarkWraithUserOptions.py" I get this error message:

Invalid option entry found. Option value contains menu entry that exceeds maxstrings property @ line number 1922

I just did the whole process again starting at a clean install and I am getting the same error message.

EDIT:

Searched all txt files for maxstrings property. Found multiplle menu.txt files. Located one with max strings in category. Set path again, opened TheDarkWraithUserOptions.py again and it worked.

Launched game. Massive cluster *uck of menus. Can't play game. Uninstalling. Round 3, here we go...

EDIT: Round 4. Everything completed successfully FOR SURE. Game crashes while loading, black screen, music skips over and over...randomly got to the menu by alt tabbing and reopening, started new camp, moving the mouse in any direction resulted in me strafing to the right...followed every step without errors. This has to be the most frustrating game I have ever modded. I expected some bugs to be worked out after spending some time in-game.....I hope I can at least get there...

EDIT: Round 5. Did EXACT SAME PROCEDURE. Same crash. View task manager and waiting a minute or two I can get to menu and play game. CONTROLS WORK FINE NOW. Took 6 attempts of graphics options change, save + load for options to take effect. When I submerge I can just walk out on my deck like I am a fish or something... RANDOMLY CRASHING TO DESKTOP ALL THE TIME. I previously played the vanilla version on steam, it was horrible all the random crashes... Now I am realizing The amazon/uplay only version is just as bad. Vanilla or modded I am losing serious framerates (but not on the steam version ironically)... I have 4gig quadcore, 16 gigs of ram and a GTX670 for christ sake, HOW IS THE GAME LAGGING?!?!?!..... I was hoping a solid mod set-up that everyone uses would work a-ok. WRONG. (no offense modders! I am full of rage because of this game and the amount of hours I have tried getting it to work properly!)

I am going to write a very long review about how people shouldn't waste their time and money on SH5. It is one of the biggest POS games I have ever owned and modded. I had such high hopes for it. From here on out I will only purchase games with 100% functionality. I pray to the gods that someone will make a new U-Boat game that works properly and that is moddable. UBI sucks.

Ok...i have one question. I play with this great megamod but i dont know what am i doing wrong? My crew morale is droping very fast. I sink a few ships and nothing happend, no moral increasing. I try to speak with them and nothing again.
Then i tried to speak with my bosun to boost morale and cook special meal i got 3 points for that, but after just few ingame hours it is again 0. Now i have to wait 4 more days to boost again.

Ahoy kameraden! I understand the modes is made on the basis of Open Horizons 2.5. I tried to put Russian language pack for OH 2.5, but nothing came of it. Half of the text was in English, and the other half with the wrong encoding. Tell me what more can russifyi way this mod? Sorry for my English :salute:

It's a nice mod.
I play wolves of steel and wolves of deep.
Previously I played magnum opus.
The clouds are moving quickly.

First of all, thanks to the author(s) for the excellent megamod.

Second, having a bit of an odd issue. Everything works fine as far as I can tell - but the clouds are moving incredibly fast. It utterly breaks the immersion which is such a shame as everything else is perfect. They're speeding across the sky like nothing I've ever seen!

I'm guessing this must be a small bug. Has anyone else encountered this? Is there a fix, or a speed value I can change somewhere?

Hello, new Captain here just getting started with WoS and using mods in general. I've got a couple questions pertaining to this mega mod.

1) Does anything in WoS change effects of torpedo damage and/or sinking mechanics like the earlier Critical Hits for Torpedoes (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=163930) and Better And Realistic Flotation (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=164953) do?

2) Is the built in speech recognition support a standalone feature or does it require the Speech Recognition for SH5 mod (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=3085) as a separate install?

I like this mod, or in fact most of the mods in it. But I can't use it cos my laptop is just not powerful enough... I dunno why, maybe cos of all those graphical changes that this mod does. Game runs much more smoothly when I don't use any mods at all.

After trying the built in RAOFB tutorial I've discovered that the scale on my scope must be off because I'm getting large errors in my measurements. The script says the mast is at an optical height of 10.6 degrees but the scale on my scope shows 12 degrees, even the flag is clearly above the 10 degrees mark.

I am using the 16x9 resolution patch but when I tested this without that patch just to see what would happen, I get the same results.

I could not find a solution to the tick mark scale but Schnorchel did the next best thing and adjusted the RAOFB rings so that the measurement will now yield the proper ranges.

Does anyone know if there's any technical documentation on the different U-boat types, the successive parts upgrades and the affects it has on the U-boat, along with Torpedo data?

If not does anyone know how much of an affect the 10.0cm Deckgun has on dive time?

(I have searched the documentation that came with the mod, but appears to be nothing of the sort.)

Hi ignore my last question, i've found it..been a long time.

Im really enjoying this mod and its saved me loads of time finding and updating each mod. One issue though...the wake and froth looks great around the U-boat except the it penetrates the conning tower a bit, harly a show stopper, but does blow immersion somewhat, is there a fix for this at all?

Other point...i clicked on the compass to change course and up popped a dial for better adjustment, this is fine, except i cant get rid of the dial now..any answer to this?

And lastly, did anyone manage to create a functioning fuel gauge in the boat, i've never seen one to date?

Same here, a lot of CTD occured while trying to do my own modsoup.

Then, when using WoS All-in-one mod, no CTD at all.

First thanks very much vdr1981 for your hard work putting this all-in-one and easy to install super mod. Same here - I've been trying many times to build up my mod soup always with different results. I'm still in a testing stage how things behave, but so far it does look very promising and I might FINALLY be able to start the campaign since SH5 was released. so thank you and respect.

Since the mod seems to be very good indeed I'm kind of picky one and wonder about two things that still bother me....

First those random graphical glitches I keep getting here and there, unfortunately don't have any screenshot of that, but I'd say it has something to do with smoke textures. Sometimes like black 'bubble' appears on the horizon, sometimes the entire black stripe across the horizon. It usually disappears as I move the camera... totally random...

Secondly - and I believe many of you will be aware of that - sometimes torpedo hatch is not opening. Although I click to open, I hear a sound, but then I go under water with the camera and the door is still closed....

Well like I said - just being perfectionist here, otherwise my immense respect to all the modders out there for their hard and fantastic work. Remembering the state this sim was released in and what it looks and how it behaves now.... ?? Thank you guys.

Any help or suggestion with the above mentioned much appreciated....

Another thank you post.Long time since I went deep in the Atlantic and must say that you guys have done amazing things with SH5.TDW's work is crazy in how much it changes the game all at once.And this mod list with all the great mods it contains is even more immersive craziness.:yep:

Also wanna add that I really love the wave mechanics to this mod and the underwater view is superb.In past with SH games I have gone crazy with the feel of the boat on the water and now with WoS I just wanna play this gem and sink ships and to me that says much!!

Now to some constructive criticisms as we all know there has to be.Some of these are probably needing to be fixed by TDW but I will just post here as it pertains to WoS and maybe vdr1981 can fix.

When you are at decks awash the WO will not give "nearest visual contact" even though he is still standing on deck.

Ambient noise in hydrophone is still heard.With TDW patch that removes ambient noise you dont hear it but when you install WoS the ambient noise is back with footsteps everywhere.Also stuff like the SO telling you of contacts he hears while you have his headphones on.:hmm2: Truth is I would love it if you heard nothing but hydrophone noise as the TDW patch alone still allows you to hear crew commands being repeated.

The damage mod RSD has some kinks also.Stuff like being submerged and you finally get all compartments down to 0 flooding but some still have water in the 3D world.Or at times you have no water in 3D world but the damage screen shows flooding.The "activate repair crew" from CE commands doesn't do anything,though it also doesn't do anything when WoS is not installed so is really a TDW UI issue.Just needs more work to iron out the kinks as it adds so much to the sim.

Almost every ship I attacked and watched in outside view has a shallower draft than shows in the SOAN.When you do a magnetic pistol attack and you go one meter deeper than whats posted the torp will go right under and not detonate.if you put magnetic pistol at the draft height listed then it will detonate.From SH3 days I was taught to put one meter lower than the draft so I was not hitting anything for awhile till I went to external view.

There is more that pop up but overall this is the best SH experience I have had yet.Just wanna thank all the guys who have been working at making this version what it could or more like what it will become!!:up::up:

any chance someone can help me get this mod working.

im up to step 5.

the tdw patcher that comes with the mod is version 164 yet the latest patcher version is 168.

do I just copy in the latest patcher to my silent hunter 5 folder and follow the instructions? I did try this previously which led to sh5 not even loading so wanna confirm im doin the right thing.
