Your picture shows that it is showing lights so that it can be seen in darkness and not be attacked by mistake.

Textures are missing :03:

This is still a common glitch with imported dat units. Once I investigated on the issue, but I couldnt't find its causes and why it only happens sporadically (maybe hardware related?).
One more reason for sending a contribution to privateer for the purchase of the SH5 RAD importer and porting those units in proper GR2 format :yep:

A problem:

I was submerged for more than 5 hours under heavy depth charging, a lot of destroyers persecuting me, at night before dawn. Scenery: the Mediterranean near Malta. Depth (a lot of work to maintain it with hydroplanes, blow ballast, etc), 150 mts. Speed: 3 knots. Battle stations active, without real navigation, maneuvering via compass/rudders. No damage. When the destroyers leave me, after the persecution, I cleared from the enemy formation and emerged, standard speed with batteries recharging. Going to bridge, the watch crew didn´t accompained me. I press many times the button of "Watch Crew" under the watch officer and no effect. I´m navigating alone in the bridge. I disabled the battle stations but no effect. I don´t know how to have my watch crew in the bridge! The watch officer remains with the sonar guy.

I´m using the Stormy´s DBSM mod after TWoS but I think it is not the cause of this annoying problem.

Some solution or help, please!

OK. :up: I will start this night the game and see if the watch crew is on the bridge. I save it with myself alone seeing a nice dawn in the Med.

BTW, it is the 83rd savegame in the Med and no CTDs.

I love RUSTED GLORY mod/textures but I like normal not rusted conning tower, anyone know what textures are for conning tower in WoS 1.5?

Hi,

After install TWOS, the mouse curser is off in the map so much to be unusable. The item being used in the map (pencil, ruler, etc) will actually be lower and to the right of the mouse cursor.

Tried both aspect ratio mods included with TWOS, both same issue. No other mods installed. Stock game acted fine.

Any ideas?

Just remove all uboat7A_***.dds files from "Texture" folder of the update No.15 and re-enable it again with your JSGME...

That was a issue a long time ago...Are you sure that you are using latest TWoS ?

You need to put the 2. update into the folder MODS - in your SH5 mainfolder - after you copy/paste the content of the main TWoS download in your SH5 mainfolder.

After you have extracted main TWoS archive into your root SH5 directory, update No.15 should be activate just like any other mod with your JSGME...:yep:

Install instructions are pretty straight forward...

Mouse is misaligned on map screens. Tried both aspect ratio mod patches that come with WOTS and also no aspect ratio patch. Issue did not occure before TOWS.

Mouse is misaligned on map screens. Tried both aspect ratio mod patches that come with WOTS and also no aspect ratio patch. Issue did not occure before TOWS.

After you have extracted main TWoS archive into your root SH5 directory, update No.15 should be activate just like any other mod with your JSGME...:yep:

- Revised/reduced Bay of Biscay air traffic, late years.
- SH5 just become a lot more geekier with famous SkyBaron's fully functional in game Enigma simulator. Very few radio messages has been encrypted so far but hopefully that will change in the future.For now, the idea is not to force the player to decipher occasional encrypted communications, but doing so player will make his "life" at least a bit easier and patrol more interesting...
- Reduced time duration requirements for secondary "Intercept convoy/TF" missions to more acceptable values in order to counteract game's inability to properly save time duration spent in designated patrol area.
- SkyBaron's hydrophone fix for slow moving ships. Now, player will be able to actually hear slow moving ships when sonarmen reports contacts.
- An optional hardcore addon for encrypted radio orders from BdU (grid patrol orders, repositions ect ).

Just a couple of questions :hmmm: Just been doing a patrol on the Northern Approaches AM6144 and after doing the required 48 hours, the reposition order didn't appear. I did the patrol again making sure I started outside of the 200 km radius but no matter how much over the 48 hours I stayed, the result was the same.

There was not a single contact to engage so not a shot was fired. So the first question is: will the patrol progress after the designated time interval if no ships are destroyed?

The second question is: is it necessary to do the Auto Save_Enter_ Base save and restart when just starting a new patrol within the campaign? Any thoughts or advice will be appreciated

Yes, because grid patrol secondary missions are only time related...You should enter designated patrol area , stay there for xxh without leaving or reloading the game and patrol assignment will become finished (green). Patrol timer will become blocked if you temporarily leave the patrol area or you reload the game during those 48 or 24 h.
To repeat the process, you should exit the designated patrol area, save/reload the game, and enter the area again...
There is a change also that particular mission of your is faulty or something...

Save/ reload in bunker is mandatory only when you starting new campaign or new campaign chapter.

Thanks for the info :up: I restarted the patrol again after doing the bunker save so hopefully it will progress this time. I think I may have had a corrupted save because when I reloaded before entering the patrol area, I realized that I had made the save below decks. I think I was distracted playing with the Enigma machine! :oops:

Not sure on how you feel about the time spent in the patrol zone, but I personally would rather see the time set at 24 hours for all the patrols. The last patrol had so much happening, most of the time had to be spent at TC1 which was just about the whole day in real time to get through the 48 hours before I could save, much to the disgust of my dogs because of their late dinner.:haha:

I also find that if the weather is inclement with large waves etc, the gauges and various other items start getting artifacts and shimmering towards the end of the 48 hour patrol duration. Not sure why this happens as my computer is a mid range machine running a GTX 980 Ti Strix video card.

Been interesting getting back into SH5 and seeing all the work you guys have been putting into this game. :yeah:

SkyBaron is going to update the file in the Enigma mod package when he has a chance to do it. G'day Vecko, just letting you know that the menu_1024_768.ini is not yet compatible with Speech recognition. SkyBaron is going to update the file in the Enigma mod package when he has a chance to do it. There is a simple fix described in the linked post below for those people that have already installed update 16 and also wish to use Speech recognition. :yep:

You're absolutely right! :hmmm: After I installed the update I started a new patrol and leaving the bunker, selected Speech recognition and it didn't want to work. I just exited the game, installed the previous menu_1024_768.ini file and it worked normally so I made the mistake of assuming that it hadn't been updated yet.:oops: Now I have no idea why that happened. I checked through a couple of mods that I am using with TWOS but none of them have that file so the only thing I can think of is that a gremlin must have sneaked aboard in the bunker...

**EDIT**

Found the problem with the menu_1024_768.ini file. It needs another line spacing at the end of the file to "unblank" the 103=6F;Speech Recognition entry. just added a line space under the last entry and saved and now the Update 16 file works perfectly with Speech Recognition.

Use the Options File Editor/Viewer located in:

In the tab called "HUD" you should be able to change it.

Greetings! Salutation for this wonderful mod is still developing!

I am back with a vengeance, did a little bit of bug tracking
and testing for Wolves of steel around two years ago (or one, dunno)
mainly around save game corruption near destroyers and such.

I have my game patched to Wolves of steel 1.04 - patch 2
with "savegame error fix patch". (I think the latter was renamed to patch 3 days later)

I really don't want to start a new campaign :D:Kaleun_Periskop:

Is there any chance that I can update this beast to the latest 1.05 somehow, without the need to restart my career?

Is there any detailed changelog since 1.04?

just be aware that it was made for version 1.05 update 15, I can't guarantee if it's going to work for all ships with an older TWoS version. Like most mods, it's not a good idea to install it while on patrol.

Ok I got the TAI map to work, when the game starts it appears at the top but if you press the button where the map tools are it resets the TAI map to the bottom left.

Other problem now does this mod come with the fancy recognition manual with the tab that appears on the left because all I'm seeing is the default basic one.

Hi, just installed the latest megamod :D

And figured out how to change to sh3 style dials... (option editor) I have yet to test the results, but:

I changed alot of my crew anno, who wears a hat, who wears glasses, etc.

Can you tell me where can I look for the file that was responsible, to import it to the new install?

Also, I had a very nice skin (maybe stock, maybe TWOS 1.4, maybe someone other's) for the VIIB, not that gray, and a tad rusty. Not overdone, just a little bit more photo-like friendly look.

Can you tell me where to look for VIIb full outer hull+conn tower+parts textures for the VIIB in my old install?

1.: I don't remember, do we have the option to raise flag, raise/lower antenna?

2.: do you know what file is responsible to crewman appearance? I mean, accessorieswise, like glasses, hats, jackets. I used to tweak that alot... Now I don't know what to import.

I started the patrol without signing up for any mission, just heading to Kiel.

Is it normal, that I have red painted parts on basically every door, like this?
Is there any way to get rid of it? :D

One last thing the last time I played this game a few years ago I seem to remember that some of the charts available had various speed distance time tables and so, What mod would that be and can it be added.

1. There are no sub flags in TWoS as they are causing instant CTD's. Movable antennas will become available later in tha war...

The files you are looking for can be found in the various Crew Idle Actions .aix files in C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\data\Scripts\AI\Crew\Crew_Idle_Actions_**.aix

These files are for linking characters, animation and sound so make sure you back up these files prior to tweaking anything. :yep: I messed around with changing cloths on the crew one afternoon when it was a stinking hot summer here in the tropics and decided the crew needed shorts to wear. :haha:

You can download the file here and compare to the original to help you do your own tweaking.

Just wondering if SkyBarons ENIGMA v1.02 has the year selection update. The reason I ask is that I'm presently using TWOS Update 16, and doing a North Western Approaches patrol and the year changed from 1939 to 1940 while enroute to the patrol area. To be able to decode the messages, I have to exit SH5 and restart using a 1939 savegame, exit back to the UI and then load the current January 1940 patrol. The Enigma is then set to 1939 and then I can decode the messages which were encoded on 5/10/39.
If the year is selectable in the Enigma version contained in TWOS Update 16.2, I might just start a new patrol using the latest update instead of persevering with having to load multiple saves etc to decode the messages.

Found it yesterday night,

data\Scripts\AI\Crew

and all of the "Crew_Idle_Actions_*.aix" files there.

They are basically controlling AI behaviour / alternate faces, wearable stuff in one file per every "room" in the sub.


Almost all of them are stock in TWoS 1.5, (from 2010) except one: Crew_Idle_Actions_QR1.aix wich is last modified in 2016. I think that's the control room. So I can't copy over that one like the others,
I have to reimplement my changes line by line.. ... XDDD
Argh, all the stuff I do for my favourite crew...


Do you happen to know some cool version control / file merge - comparison software, that lights up the differences in a code view? :D

I forget what did I used for years.
I'm suprised Notepad++ does not have that in stock XD

Notepad++ does have a compare plugin. I use it all the time to compare scripts. Just google "notepad++ compare plugin"

and the ship recognition manual looks nice and ripe, but the 3 picture of the ship you are viewing is -all the same- for every ship... XD even freighters... Looks like a cruiser.

All other info in the recog. manual are changing normally.

You are not going to like this answer... :D

I use my own mods on top of TWoS, (modified crewman pictures, and now I made a custom crew ai file, so no problem there, they can`t interfere with the darggables) aswell as Silentmichel's new interior mod, but this is just the start of the fun...

I installed ALL 1.5 content on top of my existing & copied 1.4.

Started a new career though, disable all mods in JGSME, and re/enabled 1.5s in correct order, walked the TDW install mile, even succesfully changed the gui, and etc.


Why? Because I`m usually invincible on putting things together to work along, as a bugtracker.

So officially I can`t get any help here, as it was stated that you need a clean install, and avoid mods to get help..

I was just hoped that this problem was surfaced a while ago, and has a a solution, as all other things worked great, and hence mods were disabled first, I should have been got a stock there...

If you did not experienced this problem before, then I`m going for a clean install... I`m usually a fighting type, didn`t reinstalled /one/ windows in my life, just kept them safe, fast and stable, etc.

but in this case I have to admit defeat... As everything was restored to stock that can be, and everything went according to the last letter of the install manual, then still a -clear- /path problem, as draggable pictures does not open, and the small ship pictures neither-


One more thing: I would like to keep the working 1.4 one... Maybe that can be the problem, that I have two copies in different drives.

..thinking about renaming the sh5 folder in documents...

Edit1:

I saved my documents folder and 1.4 game folder by renaming. Now uninstalling game/installing stock, and the rest..
If I want to honestly test something, I cannot do it properly with a hacked piece.

I see...I'm afraid that I can't help you there (not that I don't wish to...). Use of TWoS with a number of other mods is possible but it requires some serious understanding of game files and a lot of manual tweaking...

Also I would like to apologise for wasting your time by going heads-on against recommended rules, just I had so small amount of hours to act on this, and tried to take the easy way.

It works out since 10 years :D even with SH3, now I ran into something...
So clean install, mods that is compatible just sometimes eat up too much resources and possible causes of CTDs in crowded areas (NewInteriors) and my little non/conflicting mods- and I will happily test the newest version.

I hope I can stay updated this time for years

Thank you for your support, the whole TDW content, eh, O_o :D with the options, and patcher mechanism... the whole megamod,
Vdr, Skybaron, hats off again.

As far as I see, GWX was better documented, and maybe had more cohesive work, but actually TWoS and SH5 beats the SH3 experience for me at it this point. And it is the feeling and game/realism experience that is counts.

My only heartbleed is (as hell annoying was the fact that even in modded sh3 you can`t put together watch shifts that does not exhaust your poor crew...) that SH5 does not have any real crew management. You can buy some weird cheats via points on your officers, but that`s it.

But apart from lovable and sometimes annoying micro management that I miss between battle actions, SH5 and this megamod together (stock is arcade... XD) brings me a chilling simulation, where my manual targeting systemas actually work... if I do count right.

So keep up the good work!

All went well, as far as I can tell, everything is alright this time.

Megamod is active, SH3 style dials, etc.

1.: I figured out what is the cause of the fluorescent red door handles, and door handwheels.

That texture seriously needs someone to replace those parts with something that looks like a -material-, not a red hole, but I did a small fix for myself, by simply taking away the intensity of the color to almost total gray. Actually it IS gray now.

It still looks a bit plastic, but at least not fluorescent red plastic XD and matches the environment.

if you would like I can upload the fixed texture, you can maybe include as an optional door fix, or make a better looking one, just give the option to people to kill the glowing red doors XD Some real rust would look nice on it but needs more talent than I have. XD


the TDW mods have SO MUCH options that I don`t know, maybe it`s implemented already,
2.: but today I found a way to reintroduce the ARROW KEYS to control the periscope rotation. now works as: left-right for normal, ctrl+left-right to slow, shift+left-right to fast rotation of the scope. (mouse control remained aswell of course.)
Succesfully tweaked the TWoS command.cfg. Of course that means that I got rid of the arrow rudder controls, (hated them)
but it`s possible to use any two keys with their ctrl and shift flags instead, if someone have love for the arrow rudders..

(I like the fact that it does not "wanders" around up and down like when you grab it with mouse... Only goes up and down by the rocking of the boat itself. + raising and lowering it.
I doesn`t even know that it was possible to rotate the view up and down.... I don`t think so. I have a feeling that it either rotated sideways only + raised+lowered.
OR it was possible to rotate the mirror in a very small angle... But not like this.

I only use a mouse in SH games If I want to raise + lower the view to have a better look at how tall is the mast, as somehow you can`t see it right if the marks interfering with the wakes. Still feel it as cheating)

If you are interested in reimplementing this, let me know.

Sadly it`s either IN the commands.cfg, or not, can`t make a compatible little mod out of it, that can be used on top of something that already used commands.cfg.
unless I write a third party .net windows application that can patch any kind of modified commands.cfg with these options.
THAT would be compatible with anything that leaves the "to" commands alone.

I think the easiest way is to first let you know what to implement:

search for these commands, eg. cmd80-85 in your cfg/commands.cfg file,
and modify them like this. (of course after that you should add a ; before a line where are any of these leftarrow/rightarrow keys was used other than these commands, for example, at the rudder commands)

This one was modified from the last 1.5 commands.cfg.

I will upload the file itself as soon as I figure out an easy way how to do that... I forgot how to use this forum.


Te point is, that the "to" commands are using the "R" flag, as repeated keypress to function properly. (also do not delete any already associated keys, just make a new one beside it with your key of choice)
R as a normal key, Rc as a key+ctrl combination, and Rs as a key+shift combination.

apparently, 0x25 is the left arrow key, 0x27 is the right arrow key.
the text in captions is just a visual help. As you see there are traces that someone was using that, maybe stock/ but then commented them out.

(I was testing my game, zipping around the islands from memel to Kiel, when my navigator was a bit late with the scripted realnav update, and after some 512x zig-zag on the map, calculating course every now and then via draggable tools, the U-53 was heavily integrated into the banks around Kiel... Instant loss of the whole crew, and boat :D and last saved around ... Danzig I think. Ah, a hour or so into the bin ^^
today I only vouch for some sleep and Das boot from dvd, then I will resume by uploading the files tomorrow)

Update No. 16.2 download is stopped until next update.

It seems that newly added "Ships sonar Fix For TWoS" can cause game crash in situations when AI units is destroyed and starts to sink...

I have now extracted the update 16.3 into my SH5 folder but when I start JGSME It only says update 15 and the rest.
However I did overwrite all files and folders coming with the RAR file.

Hope it works. I also want that ENIGMA.

It doesn't change any of the AI behavior. They are just encrypted messages that were already there in the game.

Just decrypted my first ever Enigma message, after activating the encrypted BdU messages mod-

Very sadly that message was the same message that BdU sent minutes before that one without any encryption XD

About Renown, and Sardonix.

Why do BdU double send their messages both classified, and open? :D Only one BdU msg so far, so I don`t know how common is this.

Sooner or later ...I will... reach Kiel XD at some point.

keep in mind that (now) I remapped all arrow keys to move the scope views in all four directions, with shift fast, with ctrl slow- so if you want to retain the arrow key commands originally associated with speed changes, just swap the arrow key keys with others under every "to" command, and then uncomment their original uses throughought the file by removing the ; before them.

AFAIK you do not need to touch the patcher unless there is a new snapshot.
I have changed map colors during a patrol without encountering any problems.

Hi Kev,
Awhile back it was reported that when you sent a patrol report, that the radioman would report "New Message Received " confirming the report in writing, but the voice would say "Sending Message".

In the interim a blank mute file was produced by TDW included in his "NewUIs" to stop the error.

These files replace the mute file with the correct German " New Message Received".

These files the .ogg and .lipbin should be placed in Data/Sound/speech/Radioman replacing the MC_RR_RADIO_15 files in all three Files Normal, Tension and Whisper.

You will also have to Modify the Send_Patrol_report.aix file found in Data/Scripts/AI/Crew by removing the # markings before the 3 lines introduced by Vdr.

so can I start a mission when I'm already out on patrol? Or start -another- after completing one, still out of patrol?

Or how do I start one? :D Do I have to dock back at base, and dock out after selecting one?

As far as the game is considered you don't need ever to select secondary mission in bunker...The war will go on...:yep: Just relax and you can select mission on next patrol...

Thanks, I did just set the in base days to 1, redocked :D selected coastal waters mission, and first got a target at the heart of Dover...

As I am a bit out of commandeering shape IRL, and IC a fresh captain, I reloaded the save, and requested it again... Now it's in AN55, a bit more friendly. So docked out, now it's the 8th of september, only lost a day.

I'm afraid that's the price you should be prepared to pay when modding already heavily modded game...:yep:

CTDs when nearing the port after somewhat longer playing session are quite common in modded SH5, but usually one fail safe gamesave 100-200 km of the port (with game restart, if possible) can eliminate this annoyance .:yep:

Just got through Kiel canal, and saved XD

Yes, that was what I did to enter port normally,
though it also took me to get rid of any and all programs possible to conserve ram for Kiel harbor- I have 8 gig, so that's something, Herr Kiel...

Tweaking was succesful after I realised what went wrong:
let the game create new "base" files by loading a tweaked patrol save, THEN dock at base, then go out- never touch in-base saves. ^^

I've been cruising around the NW Approaches off the West coast of Scotland looking for ships to use the last of my torpedoes before heading back to Wilhelmshaven to end the current patrol. I just got attacked by an Avro Anson well outside the 300 km radius of the nearest airbase and he came in from further out to sea from the west. I've noticed that some of the airbases on the map when moused over, bring up a small aircraft icon a fair distance from the airbase and "368 Nm" between the aircraft icon and the airbase. Do airbases displaying this when moused over have aircraft that have a larger combat radius than the usual 300 Km? Or are there Anson's being launched from a Carrier that may be lurking in the vicinity? :hmmm:

Your updates look the same apart from the numbering.
The first time you used the red and new it was very noticeable.
Each time a new one is now introduced they continue as before to state new and are in the same color red.
There have been a few 16 updates recently.
A new update can be around for a time like no 15 before the next one comes along.
Would it be possible to change the color each time a new update is made so it will draw ones attention to it.

Not anymore...radio reports are inconsistent with real nav addon so you should manually mark them on map. You can also use Ship Journal and supermarks to save your markings when exiting the game...

Yes...By default, only radio contacts closer than 400km will be shown in your message box and in ships Journal. You can adjust this range in upper right* corner of your screen (+ -). Pretty clever feature...

I was on my merry way to my patrol area. Every night I sent a patrol report.

Then I got a message from Bdu to be more agressive.

I stopped sending them messages after that. Now on my way to Montego Bay for Political Asylum...............

Very nice, as long as the color changes when a new update appears other wise it is still the same color with the same flashing.
Replacing the red with a green or blue for example next time will draw the attention that there has been a change.
Flashing would be good for someone who is color blind.

Just updated to the latest version Update No 16.5 with a complete reinstall and started a new career "Happy Days". :D For some reason with each update, Speech Recognition will not work for one thing or another. The SHSpeechEngineTest.exe is working fine, but the program will not activate when selected ingame. I've been searching through the files to try to find the problem by have had no joy yet. :nope:

EDIT.

Been swapping files etc and now everything works...tried to undo what I've done to isolate the problem again but can't seem to get it to break again...

I'm having CTD's exactly at the same moment every time, when I leave the Kiel base. As soon as the sub is out of the bunker a CTD, every single time.

Just before I upgraded my paint and the hydrophone and accepted the mission in the east of England.

- Version 16.5 (also happaned on 16.4)
- No extra mods
- New user, but have been past this Kiel part before without issues

Is there some way of corrupt savegame, when I reload it, the FPS drops to impossible values?

I´m playing Med campaign. I save a game with my fixed (via antilag) 35 FPS. I reload the game and my FPS, in the same conditions (weather, traffic, etc.), drops to 12-13 FPS! Is it a corrupted savegame? Is there some reason for this save-reload situation?

Other savegames, in Atlantic, reload perfectly with my fixed 35 FPS, smoke and explosions included. My PC have enough power for manage TWoS, and never see in it 12 FPS!

One in the previous patrol.
Both times talking to the crew to keep the morale up.
The ctd's both happened when talking to the last crew member Kurt Faust in the stern torpedo room.
Is there a right way or wrong way to speak to the crew?
Do you speak to just some of them or, all of them as you go through the boat?
At the beginning of a game load?
At anytime?
After a number of hours?
Once a day?
Morale can drop quite quickly so I would like to do the right thing and get on top of these ctd's.

I thought I read a post by Sober somewhere recently regarding "Antilag" where he had removed it from his modlist for this reason. Might be worth doing a search or contacting Sober for more details.

I´m suspecting that. But it seems also the antilag corrupts the savegame, because it is not resolved with a reload. The game stucks in low FPS for ever (for that savegame).

Left Kiel, gone through canal, left Heligoland, and then I realised that I can`t raise TC over 64 for a very long time. (had some time on 512, but then it... closed up to view distance???)

Turned out, that from 14000m to 8400 m distance, one of our Kriegsmarine destroyer is keep following me... As soon as I stop, It starts to randomly circle in a small area. As soon as I start, it starts following me from 8400 to 14000m distance, slowly varying it`s course by zigzags, but mainly stays on my course, just a bit on the distance, that I can barely see it...

It follows me on PURPOSE! I stop, it starts to wander in small circles... I start, it starts...

Please, what is this? XD

I can`t go up to travel speed because of this damn stalker...

Help, what can I do? :D This is so annoying, yet hilarious...
I can never get a few hours of gaming between workdays, something always happens XD

Also, though I installed encrypted BdU msg mod, I only receive uncoded messages now. I only had one coded (with the uncoded equivalent reveived aswell) at the polish start.

Set "Travel" mode with the icon next to the TC1 icon. You can change literally 1000's of events that trigger TC** in the Options File Editor Viewer.

I try that :) (though game-stability-wise there`s a reason for 64 tc max when any ship is rendered) But why is a german destroyer sneaking up one me, -exactly- in a mannner how an U-boat tries to follow a convoy? Keeping distance, stops, maneuvers, but geenerally always there, and adapts to our course... ?:doh:

Like I had a Gestapo spy on my tail, or an "invisible" escort. ... Exactly the same manner how destroyers lured U-boat in later on the war- keeping distance, just out of visual sight of the convoy, then suddenly roams in.

Like my ghost bodyguard now.
I'm sure that's a misfiring behaviour script XD but what does that destroyer think? Who I am?
A freighter in 43? (it's 39 here >D around now they went on tightly together with their precious ones...)

I would really love to know what kind of AI pattern he follows, and why

Date, time? Everything installed correctly for sure?
Try to load last gamesave from previous patrol and edit days spent in the bunker in order to avoid problematic date. Otherwise you can try to just skip problematic patrol by ending it immediately...

I also noticed that complex crew animation scripts (when interacting, especially with Kurt Faust) can sometime crash the game after long playing session...That's why I avoid interaction , for example, after successful convoy attack ect...The issue is quite rare though... Also, Kurt Faust has no any interaction options, no need to talk with him...

That was an interesting point you made as I assumed you had to speak to all the crew because you either get "Keep up the good work" or "Nothing more to say".
I thought "Keep up the good work" for the crew that do not have questions still had an effect on morale?
I usually go to Dieter Epp on the bridge first and through the rest of the crew about 15 minutes later after each game load.
I do not use the negative questions, for example the cook and his violin.
I assume also you are asking one or more of the same questions each time?
I have been playing SH5 for nearly 4 years and I am still constantly learning about this game and the mistakes I make, including those I make on Subsim.:oops:

As soon as I start, it starts following me from 8400 to 14000m distance, slowly varying it`s course by zigzags, but mainly stays on my course, just a bit on the distance, that I can barely see it...

It follows me on PURPOSE! I stop, it starts to wander in small circles... I start, it starts...

I can`t go up to travel speed because of this damn stalker...

Help, what can I do? :D This is so annoying, yet hilarious...

Just save the game an then load the saved game, Then the destroyer will stop following you. I had this a couple of times with enemy destroyers.......i went crazy :timeout:

So when i had this the first time i saved the game and quit.The next day i loaded the save game and the destroyers stopped following me :up:

Just had a second ctd.
One in the current patrol.
One in the previous patrol.
Both times talking to the crew to keep the morale up.
The ctd's both happened when talking to the last crew member Kurt Faust in the stern torpedo room.
Is there a right way or wrong way to speak to the crew?
Do you speak to just some of them or, all of them as you go through the boat?
At the beginning of a game load?
At anytime?
After a number of hours?
Once a day?
Morale can drop quite quickly so I would like to do the right thing and get on top of these ctd's.
PeterMight be a memory issue . Try playing with the low graphics option ingame options . Hardly makes any difference to my game quality but the game runs a lot smoother . Vecko is the man to nut out ctds :up:

but our Kriegsmarine zerstörer were just odd... He always kept his distance intentionally... XD Practically shadowing me.


Other: I don`t know how should the mod work, but I got my second ever Enigma message, (after tons of unencoded msgs from BdU, and Kriegsmarine, and such and such weird branches and tops of the command line, as I only got used to BdU, XD
so I got my second enigma message, first on this patrol, came after two and a halfr days, and shedload of normal comms, we will see that this is a duplicate of a non-encoded one, or not.

By the way, I love the mod.

Sober: respect graphics options and FPS, I´m suspecting I have a problem with the antilag dll. It seems this thing "degrades" my games (and my savegames- reloads), lowering my FPS from a fixed 35 (I can obtain more from my machine, with traffic, smoke, etc), to an unplayable 8-10 FPS. Saving and reloading the game don´t resolve the issue.

I want to disable the antilag because this problem...

The kameraden tell me you know something abut this issue.

Good food and Bosun's intervention, smartly timed of course... Also, completion of secondary missions and capital ships/warships kills will increase your crew moral significantly. And of course, talking with your crew but only once per patrol, and you already know that some "painful" questions can effect negatively crew moral, like if you ask Beno about his parents ect...:yep:

Yes, I think that's a stock game chart and it misses few nations added with OHII. My dds editing skills are not up to the task to fix this. Maybe someone else will...:hmm2:

It's better to use flags shown in recognition manual...

Yes you do...If you want to receive your combat orders encrypted than it has to be like that because the same patrol area can be assigned to you again later in the war. Make sure to always use date from the message it self and not actual game date. If you don't like it you can always disable "Encr.BdU Orders" addon and play with stock messages...

Also, with normal gameplay you can not be on eastern British coast before 01/10/39 but I guess you have edited your days spent in the bunker to 7 days or so? This is a way below realist U-boat pauses in port during the WWII...

I was just thinking the messages are date triggered, but this one seems to be put together from about a certain patrol area.

Now I do understand time travel, as I did a bit myself...

with October`s figures, works perfectly.

Yes, I wrote earlier that I did- A few days or so "patrol" going from Memel to Kiel without firing a gun, or even seeing an enemy contact, all provisions intact, except a few liters of fuel XD even bananas won't turned brown -may- makes it possible and realistic to sail again after a week or so...

I try to control the days in port according to what happened, and what needs to be done, and coastal waters patrol mission is avaliable by that date aswell.

I think a day's leave for the crew is also way enough after 4-5 days on sea XD
And 5-6 days maybe enough after 4-5 days patrol to make everything right, put together a mission plan for the U-50 by BdU, etc.

G'day Sober, running with the Uplay stuff turned off saves Uplay syncing game saves and loading all old unwanted game saves back into your new install. Unless you can find and delete the saves folder for SH5 in the Ubisoft game launcher local directory. These are not marked as to what game saves you're actually deleting if you have more than one Uplay game.:hmmm: Not sure though if it can effect the campaign.

Yeah...I think I'll leave Uplay switched off as well and use vdr's workaround if I have a problem at the end of this campaign.
U-Play is needed only if you wish to use Mama's tweaks in order to trigger campaign transfer...If you use my files replacement method then you dont need it at all...I would certainly recommend you to try Mama's tweaks first, then if it doesn't work, use alternative method. Check tips for more...

Did you select secondary mission in bunker? Note that "Spy" missions don't have any encrypted radio traffic because orders are taken in homebase. First encrypted message should be received when you enter your designated patrol area with information how long you should stay there and patrol radius...

I didn't notice any secondary mission with this campaign. I think there were 3 patrols available, First Deployment, Atlantic Air Gap and Strategic Supplies. I'm not sure yet but it seems like you have to be ingame when the initial start date occurs for the message to trigger irrespective of the start time.

I'm not certain of this at the moment but I'll do some experimenting to see if this is the case. I changed the start date/end date in the campaign_radiomessages.txt and was ingame when the date clicked over and the message was received. The message contained in the CampaignMission.tsr still hasn't appeared.

I'm using TheBeasts Room_QR1 mod and Speech Recognition_MiTons_NewUI_Editon_v0.4.1_english as well so I'm unsure if these are causing a conflict or not. I did notice that when I used JSGME to remove the Room_QRI mod while trying to get Speech Recognition working before leaving the Bunker, JSGME showed that the mod was removed but ingame, the mod was still applied. :hmmm: I've never had that happen before so when I get back to Lorient, I might just do another new install.

Depends on the season and latitude. In the "Total Germany" campaign in the winter months, it was very dark most of the time with only a few hours of daylight. I'm doing "Happy Times" at the moment and it's summer so it doesn't really get fully dark at all when in the higher latitudes North of Scotland. :yep:

Yeah..I still have all the ones from the previous patrol..before I reinstalled. I just put one of the last ones in the savegames named "Previous Save"

Agreed but Im in october 39. Clear nights are black but when its raining/overcast nights are grey for a whole time.

No..I didn't try because I had planned to do a new install and use silentotto to start a new campaign. I've been doing "Total Germany" for so long I decided to have a change. Also I had been messing with so many different files I thought it might be a good idea to make a clean start.

Greetings,
I am around a little more than 13.000 tons, (and one Hurricane MK1 plane..)
on coastal waters mission- Happy as I can be, with realnav, full manual targeting, etc. - completed the patrol mission objective fair and square aswell, got my second enigma msg on the mission :D can't wait to read it-

For the last two, I torpedoed a Hog islander, alone but in the vicinity of 32454 destroyers and gunboats, all went down on my arse, luckily somehow they lost track after 3-4 hours, started to search in a wider angle, and then went away. And a Granville type freighter, on that case the destroyer arriving somehow lost my track on the start- arrived to the wrong spot, I was outbound to Northeast, with flank speed underwater, 130 meter deep.
I like the fact that I have a chance NOT to be found on the first blink, (then need to shake them off) it seems it changed!

1.: BUT I cannot tell you the first two kills, that was travelling together, as it seems my ship log doesn't save even when I tick "save every line to shiplog", only if I save it myself in every few minutes
(one was a small or medium tanker, the other was I think a WEPS cargo? Quite small. If I reload, I can view my ingame captain`s log, but I can`t share that one...)
ANd we all know that a CTD WILL happen after a long time, for like, after hours of harassing by a destroyer, and you have to reload. And if I reload to the state where I'm running from the destroyer, and the ships are sinking, then nothing is going to be in the shiplog for some reason...
And somehow I think it can also overwrite itself... Even if it was saving the events of sinking those two, by reloading, then saving the log it was maybe overwritten by zero data.. Simply no events on the time when the ships were sunk.


2.: Also, I started the game with KSDcommander, hoping that it will update my data on server, but even my -local- file shows crazy data, an august date, (I did not tampered with august) and a note stating a change of port to Kiel from Memel, then from Kiel to Wilhelmshaven....

It seems that no matter how I restart KDScommander, click on update stats, etc., it does not load my current stats.
Yes, I have one profile, and SH5 in documents are having the right path.

What can be the cause? How can I make it read my latest stats, AND make it to update my profile on the server aswell? (that one shows even older data)

I keep that in mind.

Now Im thinking about a new kind of ship`s log to put together.
Just an idea yet- but it intrigues me that ALL the detailed information about patrol, ships sunk, radio logs, direction changes, and etc. are avaliable scattered in different save files.. KSD has something like this I think, but I see potential for a fullscale, over detailed, real smelling paper-imitating nice html log like sh3 commander had.

I will see if I have time to develop something

Struggling to find the gaming time to complete 48 hour patrol objectives.
With real navigation a lot more time is used searching, diving, listening, re-positioning.
The Enigma machine also now has to be added to gaming time although I am sure I will get quicker at it in time.
I am having to rush through a lot of the 48 hours using TC so I can get my promotion point, make a game save and then go to bed.
I can now take my own time before moving to the next patrol area to get my second point.
On the next gaming session I will position the boat just far enough away before the next radio message is received, save and exit.
The next gaming session I will start the second 48 hour patrol objective and see how far I can get through it before having to high TC to finish it.

To search contacts at patrols, i am using this script: search -> search on patrol-> no station hydrophone check for real nav

It has best behavior for me.
You just point your heading to your wanted course, secure to be emerged, close doors in radio room to secure best condition for sound engineer, position yourself anywhere inside to allow submerging and start the script.
It's moving forward emerged and looking for contacts submerged in your track periodically and use tc to spare your time..

Struggling to find the gaming time to complete 48 hour patrol objectives.
With real navigation a lot more time is used searching, diving, listening, re-positioning.
The Enigma machine also now has to be added to gaming time although I am sure I will get quicker at it in time.
I am having to rush through a lot of the 48 hours using TC so I can get my promotion point, make a game save and then go to bed.
I can now take my own time before moving to the next patrol area to get my second point.
On the next gaming session I will position the boat just far enough away before the next radio message is received, save and exit.
The next gaming session I will start the second 48 hour patrol objective and see how far I can get through it before having to high TC to finish it.

It's pretty much the same like before if you know that "patrol timer" can be restarted if you leave the designated area, save/reload the game, and enter the zone again...:yep:

I returned after 3 years on board and I'm using the exelent mod TWoS with real navigation. But I spend a half day to lookinng for a ship that my sonar guy heard and I realize that was a whale! I also found that in OH II dolphins and whales are mentioned as ships. This is ridiculus! I'm not a fishing boat I'm a submarine and I'm hunting ships not whales! I want to ask if there is a way to discharge from this bug, because I can't go to hydrophone for every single contact that my sonar guy hear. If there is not a way I will abandon the submarine and I will looking for more realistic games.

Having a whale of a time are we? :D I got caught out like the one time while up around the Faroe Islands chasing in all different directions until I decided to check the hydrophone contacts myself only to discover that the contacts was a pod of migrating whales! It taught me to listen myself before heading off on a wild goose chase. :oops: That being said, during a long patrol when all the fresh and perishable supplies were exhausted, the U-boat crews would sometimes hunt if the opportunity presented itself to supplement their diet. This included included among other things, polar bears, sea turtles, fish and probably the odd dolphin or two!. Maybe you could shoot a whale or a dolphin so the cook has fresh meat to make a special meal for everyone..:haha:

Lorient would be a fun port to enter on a dark stormy night. Except for the two light houses, there doesn't appear to be any other navigation beacons
marking the channel etc as the other ports such as Memel, Kiel and Wilhelmshaven have. Does anyone know if they have they just been omitted, or is
there some other reason for this? :hmmm: I suppose with French Champagne and Mademoiselle's waiting in port, expecting them to light the way as well
may be just expecting a little too much...:03:

Yep it has, i returned from patrol just yesterdays evening (around 4:00 ingame) and there was best navigation i saw.

Green to the right and red ones to the left :salute:

This is more a limitation than a bug. I don't think there is a way to make "environmental" contacts, or any other contact for that matter, to be reported in game other than as merchant/warship/submarine/aircraft/coastal defence (this is including also watch crew reports). So, the choice is about making marine life to be wrongly reported as ships, or not be reported at all. I think most modders (me included, as far as the whales are concerned) opted for the first option, because if the player had to rely exclusively on his own eyes and ears, he would hardly spot those animals. :03:

Making the crew not to report them should be an easy tweak though :)

Really!...I never saw a single buoy coming in, and it's a tricky port to enter. Took a while to find the U-boat pen as well. Drove right by the entrance the first time as I could only see the top of the building after I had sailed around the bend after the second light house. Finally found it and docked before the crew mutinied for cutting into their shore leave! :o

16.6 messed up my real navigation, the sub icon is showing, i enabled via JSGME as always.

Of course it is missing some files...It contains only updated files for "real nav" addon which comes with the main megamod archive...:yep: It's an update...

Can anyone point me in the right direction regarding tutorials or "how to's" regarding saving/editing the Ships Journal? Tried the to search the forums and looking through the TWos documents but have found only scant info. I seem to have a lot of entries that are doubled or quadrupled so I assume that I'm using the incorrect procedure saving etc. Any advice/info would be appreciated. :06:

Better believe it.
I spent last patrol in Atlantic gap with not a single convoy, just few small merchants.
And this is how it should be, most of uboten, didn't fire any single eel for whole carrier.

I guess I just got lucky. Intercepted a troop transport convoy, 3 torpedos fired and 3 transports sunk for a huge amounts of tonnage (about 52000). Now stalking a large convoy. It sure is happy times

I sure will :) never finished the war in SH3+GWX. Always thought that it was too easy from 39-42. Once I hit 1943 I thought it was too hard LOL.
