Yes...You can try to open original TWoS "data\UserCharts\***.TDW" files with some text editor and translate them manually.
What you're looking for are charts from "Maps & Map Tools" category...:yep:

Hi,
I am new to silent hunter 5. I installed WoS without any problems. I started to play the tutorials. I am facing a problem now in the "The Wolves of Steel Mod Speed Finder Tutorial"
Everything is working just the detected target speed is wrong. Seems like i am getting allways 10x the speed the target is actually moving?!? I get allways a speed of 60 - 66 knots. It should be 6 knots. Maybe someone knows what causes this problem?
The tutorial isn't really needed for this one. Your navigator will always give you speed and course of the target after two range measurements (it will appear in your msg box). The trick is that your measurements have to be accurate,, you have to move very slow (preferably stopped) and not to change your course between the measurements. Bigger the time interval between the measurements, more accurate data you'll get.:yep:

Make a gamesave and upload it. I'll test what's going on...
Or you can enable highlighted sensor zones options in map settings and see what, how or is it detected at all...

Thanks mate i will try this right away. I did not know about the 2 measurements.
Edit - i found out what caused the 10x speed measuring faults. I checked the activated mods again and noticed i overlooked several times that the TWoS UI mods are the same. I did not get any feedback (maybe a bug?) that i activated the same mod 2 times XD.

After deactivating one of them - I get 6 knots now (The correct speed). But why do I get no feedback that I activated this mod allready and try to edit the same files again? With movements using the arrows I noticed that it changes the audio of the Twos so I will continue using the Twos pattern.

I'm happy with the graphics of TWoS, and adding extra mods is not recommended.

Hello everybody!
So loooooong Time since i posted here … and what a surprise when i discovered this méga mod !!!
You guys have done an amazing job during all those years :yeah:
Had great trouble downloading the mod because of my bad internet here…but finaly it’s done :yep:
Install was great and smooth on my steam version, and just started a new carreer :)

Question . I just saw a mod that allows your GUI dials to look like the faces of them are of glass .. I would like to install that style of dials .. I am currentlly on patrol and heading back to base, Is there anything tah will ahve to be done besides installing them through JME ?

You need to put the mod in the TWoS parts folder and activate with JSGME.

In OFEV you need to change to SH3 style GUI.

From the TWOS mod folder.
Open the dials mod and go to data\menu\gui and you should see the glass cover there.
As previously stated you have to select GUI style SH3 in the OFEV and enable the mod to see the glass to the dials.

Window mod works but you have to lower the in game resolution to be lesser than your native display res. Don't forget to enable appropriate Aspect ratio fix as well...:yep:

It will work if you reduce in game resolution, for example to 1680x1050. :03:
In SH5 you can not use your native screen resolution and have windowed mod at the same time...

I am not sure if i want to play without using whole screen, but ill try to test it.
Its switching between windows seamlessly at first glance, it just disables sound when its not focused.

Hello WoS Fans,
I installed the Wolfes of steel and its incredible nice :Kaleun_Applaud:. I installed
it on two computers, as I'm using a desktop maschine at home.
Cause of that, I copied savegames some time from one computer
to another. Now, several savegames are corrupted. When I load
them, The Wolfes Of Steel is crashing and UPlay is starting.
Even, when I create a new savegame on my desktop, I can not
load it directly after saving on the same computer.
Is there something known about this problem and more important,
is there a fix? This problem occures since one week and I played
this game for several months - so its quite strange.
The computer power cannot be the problem. I got 64 GB RAM,
64 bit system and an fast Xeon CPU with the 730 GTX Graficcard.
The game is running absolutely fluent even on high detail level.

can someone give me tips on how to find any enemy vessels with Real Navigation? I am really struggeling to find anything. I do periodic dives and hydrophone checks but there is literally nothing. I try zick zack search patterns and other serach patterns but I sometime play for hours without finding anything.
I would appreciate your help.

I found Documentation about the Hydrophone in the Journal in Game. Is it working? Any Tutorial or adivce how to use it?
If it works what can i do with Info?
I remember back in the Day there where some Mod where you could count Propellorblades and count them moving and could estimate the Speed of the Ship.
Any Info on that? Im a audiophile guy more than visual. So a working hydrophone with more abilities would definatly help! :Kaleun_Thumbs_Up:
The RAOBF worked! Got my first Mission before Polish Harbour with two old Frighters around 5000BRT each. Shot on 3000m and 2000m Range,4 Fish, two Hit and 1 sank immedatly. With the Polish Escorts some Miles away i surfaced and gave the second dying Freighter 2 Shot with the Deckgun on the Waterline and it sunk and i escaped. So this is working at least. Or was it luck? Such distance the Shots have to be accurate at night right?

That's perfectly normal. I play sometimes whole weekend without any contact.
Most of the subs never seen a ship in whole war.

I really like the Wolves of Steel pack, it's amazing how good the game looks and works with this mod (besides some crashes and savegames that just won't load again, which made me go through Gibraltar twice...:timeout:).
There's one big gamebreaker for me, tho:
I can't see some of the text in the conversations with my crew.
Mainly, the orders are not shown.
I can click on the numbers and give them orders, yet I can't read which number is what order. So I am guessing and trying to remember.
Is there a way to get the texts back?

If you need some input on what to change for the next version:
1) An option to pause the game when an enemy target is spotted.
2) Pop up helpers for all the icons (so you know what the icon does).
3) Why can I only enter the Captain's bed once? After I leave it for a short time, I cannot enter it again. I like laying in my bed and reading a book while the ship keeps moving along.
4) An option for higher visibility range under water would be nice.
5) External camera somehow is broken. It worked in 1.6, now it's just showing some random underwater scene or something.

If you use the salamis addon (food hanged in the boat), you will have problems with external camera, after some consume of fuel (linked to the food). Play without external camera or deactivate the salamis mod. Problem not resolved yet.

Sounds like your mod hasn't been installed properly. I would suggest full game reinstallation according to provided install instructions.Cheers.:salute:

I never thought about the radioman's skills. Thank you very much i will try that out.
Concerning the automated scripts: I used them for quite a while but I did not find any more ships as usual. Just less work I guess :)

I did the SH5 Digital Download and installed TWoS add-on. Everything seems fine until I start a new game and I get a weird screen that I can only hit “ESC” from and try again. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, my knowledge of how these work is relatively limited and I apologize if this is vague information to start. I found Trevallys RAOFB Tutorial for estimate Speed with the RAOFB Finder. But the Pictures are missing. I know stonaims Tutorials but hard to find the Info there. Anyone got Tutorials written with Text and Pictures for the Attack Disc and the RAOFB Finder?
Edit: Okay i found the Tutorial on wich Red Marker i have to read the Speed of the Targetship. But i got a Question: How Accurate is this Method on diffrent AOB`s? What are the variables? Im not moving and the measurement is same accurate with AOB of 10° and AOB of 70°? And do i have to Multiply the Values with x4 if im not zoomed in on the Scope like with Masthight and Shiplenghts?

Figured out the issue. I did the “Run as Administrator” option for all apps, created the game in a location other than Ubisoft golfer and kept the main.cfg file.

practice and hone my real-world pilotage, ded-reckoning and sextant skills of CelNav...
mimic the adventures of the USS Nautilus, especially the under-the-icepack voyage...
practice my captain's stealth skills of insertion and detection-avoidance while making my excursions.
Some of you may be wondering why I chose a 1940-ish subsim to perform Cold War experiences? What do you mean for "MODS"? The addon mods in JSGME? You can activate them via JSGME (select one and "pass" it from left to right).
TWoS doesn't need additional mods to work. If you want to experiment with another mods, put them in the TWoS Parts folder and activate them via JSGME.

practice my captain's stealth skills of insertion and detection-avoidance while making my excursions.
Some of you may be wondering why I chose a 1940-ish subsim to perform Cold War experiences? Really never I go so far to the North, so I don't know what there is in the far Arctic in SH5. In SH4 you have a wall of ice (AKA Game of Thrones Ice Wall), and you can't pass it to the North Pole....

Can they run out of depth charges?
Historically something like a V and W class destroyer had about 30 depth charges on board at the start of the war.
So it would have to break of its submarine hunt eventually.
How is this handled in game?

Yes they can, i have many times situation that destroyer just kept my location until new arrived.

I have a very annoying issue with the minimap. It always appears in the top left hand side corner. Tried using Real Navigation first, then disabled it - the minimap remains stuck in the top left corner.

Mod list looks ok.
OFEV changes to the TAI map should not make a difference to the position of the where the map sits.
You can operate the TAi Map by toggling the Tab key which has 3 settings.
Closed > Mid open (Periscope stations) > Full screen.

Okay, I think I figured it out. I went into the OFEV and in the TAI Options setting I enabled it at start and set the mode to TAIMode TAI and that seems to put it back in the default spot!

I will say VDR the exchange in operation drumbeat was flawless, unlike any previous mods with TDW interface, Refueling to continue to America -- simply well done. by the way, I managed to destroy all the ships that were in line . you youtube video .. the trick is. aIM FOR THE BOW AND THE SHIPS WILL SINK FASTER CAUSE THE VIRTUAL WATER IS RUSHING IN LOL :Kaleun_Salute:

Two things that I noticed and I'm not sure what I did wrong, but I thought I went with the standard defaults.
1. I don't see any Enigma messages yet.. It is early September 1939. Seems I got a few encoded messages earlier than that. If my memory is wrong, then ignore this!
2. I can't seem to set the mast height. When I spot a ship, it brings up my helper guy, but the mast height says NaN, and I can't set it anywhere.
I'm going to assume Enigma is now in the default? (It does not show up as a MOD in JGME).

Are there still critical Hits Like in engineroom or Ammoracks? Are ships taking Walter slowing down? Had some Shots fired with deckgun AP in the Engineroom Same With Torpedo but it seemed Like ships never slowing down. Or am i wrong Here?

Damaged ships will slow down and eventually stop of course but this depends of number of factors like amount of damage, damage zone type, ship skill and type ect...

Haha, twos is hardcore style, a lot of learning :)
But there is some optional mod for what you are looking for, i can't remember name, others will tell....

Send mast height to TDC clickable "link" will appear in your recognition manual after you mark your target with "space" key...:yep:

Wind and smoke is still a separate add-on , only it's now called "TWoS UI cmd_Auto Target ID".

I am in the campaign Operation Drumbeat . when switching on the radar there is no contact's registered on the radar scope nor does the radio operator call out contacts. I tested this with the FMB metox test scenario that is historical is in scenarios. Perhaps this is an option when selecting option' py configuration?

As I understand this Stormys_DBSM_SH5_v1.3 mod can cause TWOS in game conflicts sooner or later after I decide to install it, I do understand as well that this is possible to install as long you tweak the Mod or Rip of some parts for it to work along side TWOS without problems...
Is it possible to anyone to just tell me what to change if it has been done or a a converted Stormys_DBSM_SH5_v1.3 file TWOS compatible download???
If there are no possible conflicts by installing it as it is please info me, cause the Storm file is really a great Mod to give even more immersive content to TWOS..

I am currently operating my U-980 at the US Coast of Operation "Paukenschlag" and it seems to me that it is easier to destroy the ship and it also seems to me that the ship wants to go somehow faster. Maybe I'm wrong.

The mod is working properly but from some reason your system is preventing the game to create set of ***_Draggables.TDW files in your main SH5 directory and this is the cause of your problems. Those files should be created when you launch your modded game for the first time which here isn't the case...
The problem is occasionally reported mostly by new users, but I was never able to reproduce it in order to get better idea about specific system settings responsible for this issue... :hmmm:

I tried reinstalling the game numerous times, it's the same problem. No error messages during mod installation, running it as admin, full rights accorded to all users. Folder is not reading only.

I tried reinstalling the game numerous times, it's the same problem. No error messages during mod installation, running it as admin, full rights accorded to all users. Folder is not reading only.

If you use Steam, then get used to this: You can rarely use external mods in Steam with changed executables that launch the game...The mods have to be downloaded within Steam. That's because SH5 and other games if they are not free and must be played with the Steam interface, all such games are DRM-protected. What you can do is ask the 'Steam Support' to include TWoS mod to be downloadable as a Steam mod.

It's a very lucky circumstance that your mod bypasses the Steam DRM, and it's good for Steam users when it works, but the bypass is not perfect.
In order to make SH5 or TWoS work flawlessly after the right installation, all Steam users must find the 'call it original' files from v.1.2.0 which are then changed with the Generic Patcher:
SimData.dll
Sh5.exe
Kernel.dll
SHCollisions.act
SHSim.act
EnvSim.act
CameraManager.act
Then, one could take all game files out of Steam interface and all works like a charm...:yep:

SH3 and SH5 are 2 different games with roughly the same gameplay. If you have never played any SH game, then I advice you to start with SH3+GWX , then once comfortable with the game, also go play SH5+TWoS.
You could do the opposite, but you will have a 'harder' time to pass over all tutorials, docs etc, whereas the GWX mod gets you started almost immediately by overflying its 500+ pages manual. It's your choice.
With SH3, it's worth to read the game manual, with SH5 forget about the manual which makes everything much harder to understand.
GWX and TWoS are completly different, the only thing in common is: they are both 'Megamods'. And there is a tipo in you post, GWX is a mod of SH3, not SH5.

The ideal situation should be: In Steam there is a Community Hub for the game, and specific Steam forums contained in it for the game. in these forums there should be a link for TWoS mod as a complete Steam patch.
Of course I know this isn't the case currently, that's why I asked you to contact 'Steam Support' so maybe they will add it. It's then THEIR work to make the mod playable if they ever agree...And it would be quickly feasable for them, afterall you are throwing money after them, right? So make them work a bit instead of asking the mod author to make miracles to bypass Steam!

Hi,
I hope this is the correct thread for my question, I apologise if not.
After a few years break from sub-simming, I decided to get back into it and have installed a clean UBI copy of SH5 patched to v1.02, installed Wolves of the Sea + the update, but every time I start a mission or new campaign it starts to load, showing the loading screen with the radar icon going around, then crashes to desktop.
I just wondered if anyone had encountered this?
Quite disapointed actually, I never got into SH5 when I first bought it years ago, as it wasn't that good. Really wanted to try it now it's been mega modded.
Thanks for any help. :)
ps. I followed the install instructions, including the file patcher part.

So after hours of hours trying to get the mod working i have basically given up, i have however send Steam support a mail asking them about a possible workshop for the game, as with almost any other mod-able game on steam.

i just tried something out, i have tried installing several mods by them self, just using JSGME, and they work, however when ever i install the : NewUIs_TDC_7_4_2_ByTheDarkWraith
it all goes ape****, i got those weird dialogboxes on startup and the black box ingame. i have replaced the SH5.exe so the game doesn't associate with steam, so that is no longer a issue..

Still it's worth re-trying to install TWoS, but alas AFAIK, for some Steam users the install will work and they can play without problems, but others cannot for reasons that I don't know.
I'm currently experimenting an ideal mod setup that reflects the stock game + Open Horizons II v.2.5 campaign improvements (contained in TWoS) + other mods that will correct bugs or game malfunctions.
Here is my advice for a setup which you can follow by downloading the necessary files here in the download section or following the Mediafire links in the mod threads.
instead of the 7_4_2 , try to download the
NewUIs_TDC_7_5_0_TheDarkWraith_Test_Version_18.7 (ask for a link, because I cannot remember where to DL).
It has many improvements added.
My adviced modlist for a game 'close to TWoS' is as follows:
NewUIs_TDC_7_5_0_ByTheDarkWraith
NewUIs_TDC_7_5_0_New_radio_messages_German
NewUIs_TDC_7_5_0_TheDarkWraith_FIX_Destroyed_Shipm arks (I will soon publish this mod)

These are all mods you can find and will make the stock game playable with a much improved campaign and UI, and harbor autopilots. Before you install these mods however, you must run:
TDW_GenericPatcher_v_1_0_168_0
to successfully patch game 1.2.0, else the game remains unplayable (you can likely start it but do not expect any reasonable gameplay...). Before running this patcher, make the replacement of your SH5.exe which you have talked about and hope for the best that your game gets patched correctly with it.
I hope however that you re-try to re-install TWoS successfully, it really makes a difference in gameplay. Try it, and if it fails try my modlist above.

From some reason you don't have full administration rights over your installation folder because TDWNewUIs also needs to create and modify files once the game is started, which in your case is not possible.
Could be some of your system settings or maybe an install location which your system doesn't "like", user account control...
Can you confirmed that you haven't simply copy/paste your installation folder around?
Can you change you default install location, install the game on a different drive maybe?

With the replacement sh5.exe he should succeed to install TWoS and run fine because going successfully through the TDW Generic Patcher. He must just replace sh5.exe BEFORE starting installing TWoS, AND NOT AFTER (most likely reason why he gets his 'black square').

i will try all of the above.
BUT i just took a look at the admin rights and EVERY time i go BACK a folder into the /common from /common/Silent Hunter 5 the damn write protection box is checked off again !
smells like it actually could be a windows problem!

looks like its individual files that are read only even though i unchecked the box.
i tried installing open horizons 2.5 and it installed fine, but i cant get this working for some reason, is it possible to manually unpack and place the needed files ?

If it's a Windows problem, best thing to do is to ask question in the main SH5 forum (not here); which OS do you run? Publish your exact computer specs and OS version and ask a player that uses Steam and the same OS as you and who plays without problems, ask him how he did install game + TWoS.
I know for sure there are such Steam players. I can not help you further because I play in Win7 without Steam. Have you already posted similar question in the Steam forum for SH5? This would be the prime place to get exact procedure for installing.
[EDIT]
During the install of SH5, the following is included in the install package and should not be skipped:
- Net Framework 2.0
- DirectX installation (DO IT because SH5 will need these files, even if it's an older version of DX)
- Visual C++ runtimes 2008
Check if you have all this installed, if not this may causes the glitches you mention.
Also make use of the 'Search' here in the forums; you can set the search to look for titles only which should get you what you want easier.

ive given up with this mod, no decent instructions at all, even the buttons for plotting a solution doesnt work

The most awesome thing about this Sub sim called SH5 and TWOS is that the choices of difficulty you choose to play. will perhaps take away some of the Immersion factors of the game. better explained in this. I play at 100 %. no map contact update's, no auto-targeting. no external views. So why do I play like this? It is me being human and I can make errors in calculations. I can guess by the information given in the sim Sonar guy. I can use mathematical calculations and use tools that are given in the game. like Rafob. the attack disk. I can use methods like kliegs methods of hydro hunting. I can use stoaims method of finding distant convoys. SO why wouldn't anyone else play at 100%? If you are not playing at this level than you are missing the ouu and the awws of making decisions as a skipper of your boat. the learning curve is steep, But so well worth it :Kaleun_Salute:

Thanks for letting me in.
I have a gold edition SH5 through uPlay (not steam) and have just learned of TWoS megamod v 2.2 to my delight.
Now I have done everything according to the install tutorial, but I still get the following errors:
Computer HAVE to be set to 1920 x 1080 resolution or it will just play the intro movie without sound and then crash. Even if run as admin.
When set to 1920 x 1080 it will start with the ubisoft logo waaaay to big, but then settle into a workable resolution.
When the game finlly loads and I initially pop up in the bunker, I just get a blank option to ACCEPT. No idea what I am accepting.
I the start a new campaign and ask for my mission orders. However the costal waters mission text in the little overlay window is just computer-code gibberish.
I thought never mind, I can still see the mark for the polish fleet interception, so I will just go there. However, that is somewhat difficult when you can't navigate on the map, because your own sub is nowhere to be seen. It is simply not marked anywhere, so I cant use the map navigation.
Last the navgational map has three buttons in the top left corner. One for compass, one for knots/metric converter and the last one is a mystery to me. It just has a lot of check buttons, but no text...I assume that is a bug as well.
I really wanna play this game, so has anyone got the same bugs or can someone tell me what I did wrong with the mod? Help, please.

What Regional Settings have you in your Windows OS? Are they the same as the game installation language? And which OS is it exactly?
If it's Win10 you need to be sure to have running everything in Admin Rights and also tic the dpi thing in the compatibility of sh5.exe, plus you need special settings for your GPU that you can find in the stickies. I cannot be more precise, I run in Win7.
In your game folder, there are filenames like xxx_draggables.tdw . Delete all of them, and retry.

This mod is a lot about learning, since its real simulator, not like those Bull****s which are released novadays.
This means you really have to learn some real navy war stuff. :yep:

Hello all, I have been searching for an answer to this issue and cannot find one. If this has been helped already please point me in the right direction.
However, I installed it verbatim via the install directions. Played it for awhile saved exited, tried to play it again and steam has the error "missing executable".
I uninstalled it all. including the My Documents. Reinstalled the game. Started the unmodded SH5. Installed and Wolves following the install directions. And it is missing the executable again. Rinse and repeat all the above verifying that Norton Security is off, Read Only is NOT selected, administer rights etc etc. Same problem.
I have a laptop, Win10 Home. i3-2330m processor. 6GB RAM. the game is from Steam. (I am not too into computers so be gentle with me)
If anyone has any advise please help, I really want to play this mod

Hello all, I have been searching for an answer to this issue and cannot find one. If this has been helped already please point me in the right direction.

Well for some reason (read.. I must have done something different) it is now working properly.
I do have one issue though. Because I am playing on an older lap top with a mouse pad I do not have access to a scroll wheel. (technically I do but I must push both buttons then scroll and it doesn't seem to work to zoom in with the periscope. Is there a key command to zoom? Is there a key mapper for Wolves? I see that there are some downloads that change the keys but It's an additional mod and I just got it working. Any solutions that you all can suggest?

Today I was attacked by the RAF bomber on my return from the US coast. How real. :Kaleun_Thumbs_Up: I reported classical contact and started fighting on the plane with the plane. What surprised me that the Bf 109 appeared in a moment and the bomber shot down. This was my first career in SH5 for my career. From 2015, from January. Is it possible that a contact was reported and the game sent a fighter? I know that the bombers should work, but the fighter really surprised me, so I'm asking. :Kaleun_Salute:
@ Diddums.. I have the Steam version also and it is easy to install etc. Just follow the instructions SPECIFICALLY. It is easy though. I made a backup of the game (I think it is STEAM, in the menu bar across the top, then backup) so that if I messed it up I wasn't eating up all my bandwidth to try installing again.

Thank You, Tonic for your reply.:)! , I don't use RAFOB for all my calculations the current RAFOB IN TWOS is not as good as previous TDW mods, similar to what you see IN Stoiams youtube tutorial. However, I do use the tick marks to find the Aspect ratio Observed. Once you know what the Aspect ratio referenced is and the Aspect ratio referenced, the Attack Disk on the back side will give you AOB. Speed and Range. ( I wish I was able to make a Youtube tutorial that will explain its use) .. basically saying, the AD is an Awesome tool. with all the information is given, you do not have to shoot on a perfect 90 AOB. Once you know the course. THE AD disk will clearly point out the AOB
range. And speed -- there are a lot of tools in the sim to learn. I just recently saw a video with an old-time submariner that kinda of explained the method of 1/3.1/4 1/2 3/4 in this chart. I have to look for a scope that has tick marks in the scope already without calling up the RAFOB wheel. way too many pauses to do calculation's, Once Again for helping with the interpretation's :Kaleun_Salute:

Hey guys, thanks for this damn great mod. I got it after a while to work and I´m damn happy with it.
A little question, that i couldn´t find a answer to.
I tried to edit some files, like some of the \silent hunter 5\data\UPCDataGE things for specialabilites cooldown and so. But it looks like they don´t work. Has somebody a tip for me maybe?
I tried already a new carreer but nothing happens.

Air to air dogfights are SH5 exclusive due to appropriate TDW's patches. These situations are quite rare though but they will happen eventually as you have already witnessed...:yep:

Helpful tips in your TWoS file: "The_Wolves_of_Steel_2_2_Quick Start Manual and Gameplay Tips"
----> - Use Options File Editor (Ship's Journal tab) to match your Ship's Journal captain name and U-boat number (Eisen Wolf, U-**) with those
visible in your Cpt Log.

Is there any way to edit the specialabilities, shipspeed, torpedos and deckgun as example in TWOS ? i tried to edit the files in Silent Hunter 5\data\UPCDataGE\UPCCrewData and in the documentsfolder too, but nothing happens.
Maybe someone can give me a little tip or whatever please? :)

There are different options you can trigger in the TDW Generic File Patcher and in the OFEV for TWoS. Messing with the first one can have unpredictable negative game behavior, so backup all files as explained in the THEBERBSTER's tutorial #2 and be prepared to re-copy them and re-run the GFP if it doesn't work.
Else, no, there are AFAIK no common optional mods for TWoS that would do what you want, except maybe 'Deckgun friendly Waves' which is not included in the TWoS package anymore, but it makes Deckgun operations easier in rough seas. I'm sure Vecko the modmaker can tell you more about possible mods to add...
Be aware that there are for sure older mods that may do your sort of things, but they are NOT compatible with TWoS most of the time; however it's worth to download them anyway just to see what files and data they change :03:

Do you remember if your past enhancements to Open Horizons v.2.5 has included bug fixes where OH2 would cause a CTD when reaching the end of the first campaign chapter, Coastal Waters (aka. Total Germany in the campaign files) just when passing midnight to June 1st, or other campaign chapters when reaching the end date?
Currently I'm running OH2 without your
'OPEN HORIZONS II v2.5_TWoS Enhancement'
which is also in SJizzle's mod list recommendation. Can you briefly tell me what these enhancements are about? Are they CTD fixes in any way, and is this mod still available to download somewhere?

10 minutes is really VERY much :salute:
While in black screen, all TDW files are loaded and written in your game folder I guess, even on my laptop with only 1024 MB VRAM it takes only long when creating a new campaign (3-5 minutes), but when loading existing savegames it^s pretty fast.
Or are you talking about something else? If so then pardon me...

Probably meant to be so to avoid CTDs.
If you travel away from large ship groups or away from ports you can easily go higher than x128, up to x1024 now since v. 2.2.6.
With ships in sight you can increase up to x64, but it will drop if any new ship comes in sight.

Whats the difference between silent running command key Z and silent running key f8?
I'm not sure if I saved the game at the start of campaign and reloaded the save. Can I checked some how if I did that?

The keys were default pre-mod config you can personalize when using TWOS
Contacts are visible when it comes to being close enough usually 11000 meters. your watch officer will estimate all targets when asked

Hey so, I finally got around to buying the game and installing twos, but I cant get it running (steam user).. I know there are probably a lot of info, but I cant handle the search function on these forums either. (help?)
I installed it through the megamod installer, 2.6, got no errors or anything, when generic file patcher opened up i felt a bit lost, but I opened it and pressed "restore snapshot" and chose the TWOS one that showed up.
I got to select which TWOS mods to activate, i chose the ones helping out with realism, and made sure none collided with each other.
When I start the game, Uplay starts nicely, I see the loading screen load (the TWOS subsim one), but after that it freezes on a black screen. I see the steam overlay popup telling me I might need the cd-key, thats how i know its frozen. Nothing will help, and I have to close the application through the task manager.
Help appreciated!!! Thanks a lot in advance.
EDIT: God I feel stupid, I was just too impatient.. it loaded fine, was just froze for a bit and then started.

With 'Radio Log' you mean the message box on the lower right? Here NOT ALL radio messages will appear, you must check your CAPTAIN'S LOG in regular fashion to get news about convoy contacts spotted around the world, or other important info from BDU adressed to you specifically. The radio messages appearing in the message box (grey messages) are for 'entertainment' only, although historically correct in most cases, but you WILL NOT find contacts where they say. Instead, red messages and those from Captain's Log WILL have contacts where they say.
Then, to save all this info you must save it via the captain's log icon, give it a dedicated name and reload it after you have reloaded your save (be sure to load the correct one!). Supermarks on the map are also saved with this system.

Take the mod 'Deckgun Friendly Waves', what it does is make the waves SMALLER for easier deck gun operations. Take the files in the mod and tweak them in the opposite way, you should get what you want, but will the game be still playable? Let's see...Tell us how it works!

A sub would then surface at night to recharge batteries. Also such 'Kavenzmänner' would be very dangerous for a sub, subs (even today) are miserable ships that demand to be submerged...

Have finally decided to move onto TWOS and I am very impressed! Some piece of work, I mean thanks to all involved its pretty awesome.
I tried using the enigma machine - successfully - however after I miss typed a character then cleared it the 4th rotor keeps rotating every time I key a new character. I disabled the enigma mod and started a new career as I had made a backside of my first attempt at my SH5 career, however since reactivating the enigma option every key stroke causes the 4th rotor to rotate one space - any advice would be most appreciated as it is infuriating me.

If I know so in Generic Patcher it is possible to activate the wind 60m / s. If it does increase waves, unfortunately, it is not known.
Does not it also have to adjust the movement of the submarine on the surface if there were such waves? I mean, without a GP.

SH5\Data\Scene.dat
Under:
Node - Sky > EnvSim > Wind > WavesProperties
I was experimenting with high waves before, if you set them too high you will get all kinds of glitches like flying sub in the air, ships sinking and so on...so good luck.

With TWoS you can save at all times (but in differnt slots !!), with other modlists the answer is NO, you can get CTDs with damaged ships or planes nearby. Do not save in these situations..

I was able to fix this bug by commenting out a couple lines in the menu\page layout script. Specifically where it says -
Pagelayout_HPTimer.RemoveThenAddItem( TimerID_SwitchToStdPropulsionNoMessage, -1, SwitchingToStdPropulsionNoMessageTD, False, True )
I'm still checking whether this causes any other bugs.

Just started playing TWOS again after a few months break. All re-installed/updated and up and running.
Big thanks to Vecko and others for the outstanding mod......it seems to run even smoother than before!
One question/request though if I may......is there any way I can increase the volume of the sub engines, both diesel and electric?
Preferably without using a mod?
They seem to be quieter than before.

I wanted to shout out a big THANK YOU to Vecko, all the modders, everyone who is participating in this Thread and on Subsim.com. It is just amazing to see what Vecko and all of you are doing for this community, much love! Without you SH5 would feed the fishes.
Some weeks ago, after a couple of years in silent running, I decided to take a look again at my beloved Subsim genre. I found TWoS on Empty Cups youtube and immediately went for Subsim.com. A few years ago I already played SH5 with some great Mods from the community. But what I found here was simply mind blowing. For me TWoS is just what SH5 should have been from the beginning, a smoothly working "hardcore" simulation. For a Mod the installation was easy and comfortable, and with all the documentation I've no problems on my side.
Today (on the 10th of September 1939) I will finish my first War Patrol from Memel with around 19.000 GRT in merchant shipping sunk. In this Patrol I sank an enemy "U-Type" Submarine, witnessed german Stukas attack and sank a Polish Minelayer, had several duds, encrypted some radio messages with the Enigma, saw illuminated neutral Ships, stunning looking Ports and much more. Things I never saw in stock SH5. I still can't believe that on my next Mission I will be Prien and break into the Fortress. This will be my first time I'll enter an enemy Port and I'm really afraid of Mines and Nets. But like U-47, I will make it.

I wanted to shout out a big THANK YOU to Vecko, all the modders, everyone who is participating in this Thread and on Subsim.com. It is just amazing to see what Vecko and all of you are doing for this community, much love! Without you SH5 would feed the fishes.
Some weeks ago, after a couple of years in silent running, I decided to take a look again at my beloved Subsim genre. I found TWoS on Empty Cups youtube and immediately went for Subsim.com. A few years ago I already played SH5 with some great Mods from the community. But what I found here was simply mind blowing. For me TWoS is just what SH5 should have been from the beginning, a smoothly working "hardcore" simulation. For a Mod the installation was easy and comfortable, and with all the documentation I've no problems on my side.
Today (on the 10th of September 1939) I will finish my first War Patrol from Memel with around 19.000 GRT in merchant shipping sunk. In this Patrol I sank an enemy "U-Type" Submarine, witnessed german Stukas attack and sank a Polish Minelayer, had several duds, encrypted some radio messages with the Enigma, saw illuminated neutral Ships, stunning looking Ports and much more. Things I never saw in stock SH5. I still can't believe that on my next Mission I will be Prien and break into the Fortress. This will be my first time I'll enter an enemy Port and I'm really afraid of Mines and Nets. But like U-47, I will make it.

Hey guys, I am preparing a stream for the Wolves of Steel mod right now and I am having problems to use the shortcut keys. Obviously they have been changed, thanks to the SH5 Enhanced UI mod that is part of WoS, but where am I able to look the actualy keybindings up? I can't find any option to do so, even the option.py file in which you should be able to switch keybindings around doesn't show any. Could somebody help?

Press "F1" and use "Shift" key for more commands...:yep:

Those do not seem to be completely correct. But I am using the officers shortcuts now. Pretty successful first mission (I am using the "easy" way, with torpedo aiming assistant), 8 ships sunk, pretty much stumbled over 2 polish U-class subs at the beginning and on my way back over 3 merchants. Sank a fishing boat and 2 merchants in the Danzig harbour. That's a pretty nice quota for the first mission. xD Though I might have started WW2 a bit early, the first polish sub crossed my way at 1am on 1st September and the chat urged me to open fire...so the first shots of WW2 were not fired by the Schleswig-Holstein but me! :D

Do not you think the gunmen on the enemy ships are really, but really sharpshooters? Today, he had struck a cannon at a distance of 5 km by a second blow at a wind speed of 13m / s and a gentle mist. And I must admit that this is not the first time that I was shaking my mind over the art of the enemy. Could not this be more about reality? the current setting does not seem very real. when I realize what was on merchant ships for the operator and shoot here as the greatest experts.

Hey guys...I have a minor problem. I finished the first mission in the Danzig bay and docked successfully in Kiel. Now I want to go on my second patrol, on the British coast. Aquired the patrol mission...but there seems to be a secondary mission right on the coast of Dover. How do I accept this mission? There is nothing to click at...

Just installed SH5 and TWoS - fantastic mod!
I have a problem that I am not seeing the mission descriptions on the map. When I get to choose the mission I get a "ref.object" text in the mission description box and text. Can someone suggest a fix?

Hello, after 1 year of play I never had a crash to desktop since this morning. I have been death charged, and started to sink with a large flooding, I talked to my officers one after the other and suddenly crash to desktop…
I dunno if someone else had the same scenario, but unfortunatly I now have to reload a savegame and try to avoid those destroyers.
I was almost out of danger, I managed to stabilize my depth around 160m lol and flooding was finally under control, it would have been a great experience if I could have survive and get back to my home base in such a state!
I will never know :)

Ok, besides that I don't know how to pick up secondary missions, another problem has shown up now. I was done with my patrol in the Danzig bay as I wrote, headed to Kiel, docked in on the 5th September, everything fine. Now when I approached my commander, I only got the mission to patrol the coastal waters of UK...fine. Left the bunker, opened the map...it was 3rd October and two new objectives had shown up on the map, one the attack on Scapa Flow and the other something off the northern coast of Scotland. Now how do I pick up these mission?! Why weren't they on the map when I was still docked? Because I fear if I dock back in now, the game will progress another 28 days and will lose the mission to attack Scapa Flow. How do I get this mission?

This is just optional missions they won't disapear if you dock again… you main mission will be transmitted via Enigma message when you approach your patrol location
