When I launch KSD Commander, I can see it is connecting to my save file directory, but the "login" window on the upper right; is that to the Uplay servers? My username and pw for Uplay account don't seem to work. I get some kind of error right as the app launches about maximum characters exceeded, so maybe that accounts for it?
That login is for KSD server, no longer available. In KSD settings, put out the option for automatic connection. All offline functions of KSD work well without connection. Uplay connects independently.

Is there a particular document among those provided, or something online (maybe a Youtuber series?) that walks through using the various "ship recognition" sheets as well as the book? I see there are all these nifty filtering functions and I would think there is a filter for nationality that somehow depends on those loose sheets?

So uh, the Harbour Pilot . . . any standard reasons why he would tend to kill us all!? :)
I just now started a New Campaign with Real Navigation, activated the Memel Harbor Pilot and started walking around my ship. Next thing I know (minute or two later), I hear banging and clanking and the camera starts going wonky and pretty soon taking damage . . . taking flooding . . . game over!
I think in that "ThaineFurrows" video (number 1 in that playlist) where he walks through using the harbor pilot he alternated between map view and external view the whole time. Is walking around inside the ship a bad idea while harbor pilot is running?
Or is the malfunction likely some other cause?
ADDIT2: must be walking around inside the ship. He is doing just fine with the skipper camera either on the bridge or flying around Kiel harbor :)
Wow, this game (with this mod) is SO GOOD! Shame Ubisoft had it so messed up in vanilla that they (and maybe no other major studio) will never take another crack at this genre. The tech has obviously got to the point where you could probably even do something like this in VR, and THAT would be so cool . . .

Is there an easy way to get better magnification on the optics?
I love playing these things with high realism settings, and that "Real Navigation" thing is brilliant.
Except for one thing: I find the imposition of "realistic" magnification levels to be ridiculous. So, ideal for me would be: I play the game on maximum hard-core do your own trig realism, BUT with optics that are jacked up with max magnifications that are 2x or 3x more than what they presently offer.
When I have to get to ~1000 m on a bright sunny clear day to see that flag on that freighter is Finnish something is just not right . . .

Periscope and binoculars magnification are set according to real historical data. You can boost this in cameras.cam file but this will probably mess up stadimeter and manual range calculations as well...Use binoculars (B key) for maximum magnification.

Unfortunately it is not possible, since it would not be as straightforward as one would think, and the work would have to be repeated every time something gets changed in those files. Fortunately you do not need to know German to understand the meaning of the Names. The Parts are also very well explained in the information text.

Thank you for your reply. FYI - I ALWAYS do forum searches before asking a question. I didn't find anything useful, so I posted. Maybe I'm not using the search correctly, but being an I.T. professional in my career I would think I could handle it, but I digress.
I anticipated that might be the case. It would have been necessary to include this "switch" in the original development of a mod. FWIW, I have actually signed up to try and take German lessons, so this (hopefully) won't be an issue in the future.

One thing that I'm not sure about: if the real historical scopes provided 6x magnification, does a "6x magnification" on a computer monitor actually simulate that to any reasonable extent? My guess is: no. Why? Because of many factors which can be summed up as: computer games can only represent reality, they cannot replicate it.
Not to sound like a whiney bitch but, just to put this concept out there: for something like this, a "better" rubric might be:
A. At what range under ideal lighting conditions could a typical 20/20 vision captain identify a target with a scope at maximum magnification?
B. It should also be possible to do that in the game; which may well mean that the "magnification" applied to the camera for in-game optics needs to be much higher than the actual historical magnification.
Again, not to sound whiney or unappreciative! Your mod compilation is fantastic. Just to toss that idea out :)

You are correct, a Computer Screen can not replicate reality.
That is why you do not have to deal with random drops of water on your lens, and why you do not have to look at your target through a tiny eyepiece.
Also your Monitor will not vibrate if your sub is moving, which the real periscopes did if you moved too fast.
The real periscopes also were quite dark since the periscope head did not let much light in.
I bet any submarine commander in WW2 would have killed to be able to see targets as clearly as you are able to on your PC Monitor :D
There are reasons why submarines where encouraged to get as close as possible to their targets, and also why they preferred surface attacks at night.
Being able to see and identify your target is one of those reasons.

All very cavalier; but does anyone know the min, median, mean, max and std deviation for identification range of a typical Kriegsmarine sub?
Thas what I'm talkin' bout.
Assuming a target with a reasonably high profile . . . 15 or 20 meters . . . what is the max possible (perfect clear weather 2 meter high observation point) sighting range for that? 15 or 16km?
Now the identification range should/would probably be broken into a couple components: (a) overall identification of ship type; (b) probable filters on nationality based on discernible ship silhouette features; (c) highly probable filters based on ship silhouette; (d) positive identifiers like the flag, or other markers.
I realize that players of these subsims like to bask in the glory of "realism," but if the design of the game did not take factors like the above into consideration then the effect of "realism" factors like imposing some representation of the actual historical magnification values on an optic will not (necessarily) be to create outcomes in play which closely resemble historical outcomes.
You can dismiss my points all you want, I'm not here to convince or cajole; just trying to provoke thought. The goal of these sims after all is to achieve the perfect balance between playability and realism, in order to convey the experience of being the skipper.

Two functional questions about the mod suite:
1. The "reserve torpedoes." With a bit of googlefu I learned that, apparently this functionality did not exist for the beginning of the campaign in the vanilla game, but I see that my Type VIIB has one for the front compartment and two for the back. On the night of 1 Sep 1939 lurking in Danzig Harbor (and after sinking ~10k tons so a bit depleted on torps) I surfaced, stopped and drag-n-dropped the front compartment reserve into an empty inside reserve slot. I time-compressed for a good while, and the torp is still in the external reserve slot and says "99% unloaded." More TC = nope still not inside the sub.
Any suggestions or clarifications on that?
2. The navigator getting fixes with Real Navigation: his accuracy seems pretty variable! In one instance, I parked the sub right at the end of a pier (in Danzig) which I could identify by the map and asked him to do a dead reckoning and he estimated we were somewhere in the northern suburbs of Warsaw! :)
Obviously, errors are to be expected and particularly for less capable navigators, but . . . is this WAD? Any tips? Things I can do to make his job easier? Does he get better with (even more) age? I assume I can replace most or all of my officers later in the campaign, and maybe this guy is both a Dinosaur and nearly extinct?

Interesting . . . I must say, he doesn't seem very good at his job. I spent some time lurking in daylight about 15 or 18 km away from the northern promontory in Danzig Bay. I had come to a halt sometime after my watch crew identified the coastal battery and I did some observations on the bearings to the right-hand and left-hand edges of the visible land. I then (with the boat at full stop and motionless) asked the navigator to get a fix with celestial. His estimate was just simply BAD, and literally impossible given the measures I was observing.
I've noticed him doing this type of thing at least a half-dozen times.
In contrast, after departing Memel, his initial fix (in daylight at stop after Harbor Pilot dropped us off) for the boat wasn't too bad. Just eyeballing it, it seemed a bit off (he seems to want a Mediterranean vacation cause he does seem to error in the southward direction :)), but only a minute or less (~<500m). Plotting a course toward Danzig at like 235 or 245 and then sticking to that course at a slow or 1/3 speed . . . his estimates also seemed pretty good. But once I got into the Bay, and started alternating between various courses, depth settings, forward motion, backward motion, etc. his estimates seemed to get worse.
It is not a really big deal in terms of gameplay. If the boat is close enough to land to get a fix on two reasonable locations then one can always do at least as well if not better than the navigator algorithm, so him being in error during harbor lurking operations isn't a big deal.
Mainly I was just curious how it works (the navigator location-fixing algorithm) and if the somewhat variable degree of error is common. Also, I assume it is best to correct the estimates when it is obvious?

Celestial: simply a error between 0 and set maximum (maximum error can be set in OFEV) applied to real position. Dead reckoning: an error based on distance between fixes, so more time passes between fixes, bigger the maximum error.
There is no way to program navigator taking a fix on land, so near the coast you're better off calculating position yourself.

My torpedo man is telling me I have to wait another day and so many hours before I can order moving external torpedoes again.

Still in the very early days of the war. Finally managed to get my external torp loading. I had not assigned the skill promotion to the torpedo officer!
One weird thing: I've now received several uncoded messages from HQ basically saying: 'we are now at war with England. We will be sticking to the so-called "Prize Rules" of commerce raiding.'
I'm guessing this was what was actually communicated in the early days of the war, but then unrestricted was announced a bit later?

Sept 3 1939. Finished the objectives for the first Baltic mission and went to Kiel. Refitted and continued without finishing the patrol. Took the Harbor pilot out the canal to the Atlantic. Headed straight for Grimsby.
Got about 2/3 of the way there and my boat became "frozen" in place. No matter what speed I set it to, actual speed is 00 knots.
Any idea what this is?
I'm increasingly feeling like: even with all the fixes from TWoS, this game is a lost cause.
I'm guessing this was what was actually communicated in the early days of the war, but then unrestricted was announced a bit later?
It was a lot of back and forth policy changing in the early part of the war. Gameplay wise, you don't have to care about prize rules or maritime law, only thing you will be punished for is attacking neutral or friendly ships. These instructions (which afaik are real messages sent to uboats at this time) are for immersion and roleplaying purposes only.

The strange thing with my ship frozen in place that I reported: I figured it was because I had gone "too far" outside the radius of the first mission in the campaign, the Baltic Operations mission in Danzig Bay. I had made it to Kiel by about 2 Sept (after having "completed" the objectives in the Danzig Bay mission), and had refitted but not "End Patrol." I had then proceeded through Kiel Canal (by pilot) and toward Grimsby. It was on that route that I dove (because my watchmen spotted something) and after trying running deep for a while (and suffering the zero speed bug) I also tried Periscope depth and surfaced, and had the same bug. Reloading the last save didn't fix it.
So, in this case, I had made it to within a few hundred kilometer of English coast by about 4 Sept, and BEFORE the mission check mark for the "Eastern Coast of Britain" missions showed up on the map.
I backed up and tried a different route. I Ended Patrol, and I was shocked to learn that my boat spent a MONTH! in Kiel!? Wat!?
So I tried yet a different tact: I waited till afternoon of 4 Sept bobbing in Kiel harbor until I saw that the "Eastern Coast . . ." mission widget has been rendered. I wasnt' able to ask for mission (apparently despite the marvels of radio technology and the Kriegsmarines penchant for chatting like school girls on the damned things one has to actually be in a PORT to "ask for a mission!?!" :)). Anyway, in frustration at the obscure hoops the game seems to present to the player, I decided to just chance it, and head out on my own without Ending Patrol.
So I head north past the Danish archipelago and through Skaggerak. Now it is early morning 8 Sept 1939 and I'm outside Aberdeen harbor prowling in for a kill . . . IF there are any British or Oz ships in the port.
I'm guessing that: these arbitrary limits on finishing/taking on missions are a result of lazy programming by Ubisoft and not something easily worked around *sigh*

I am beginning to wonder the same thing. In the last week I have attempted to install Sober's Mega Mod 9 times and have had to reinstall TWoS 4 times. Since I had a career in computers I'm pretty confident I am competent to follow the instructions. I am beginning to think the only way to have a stable experience is to have a Windows 7 platform free of any Steam with a DVD install. I can't find any downloads that are not tied to Uplay and Steam. Every time Steam updates something SH5 goes back to its original Steam iteration.
I did get SH5 (Steam) installed and TWoS working, but since it failed 3 times before I am not sure what to expect. One thing I am trying is to not use any Time Compression. Maybe this will just delay an inevitable anomaly, but I'm going to give it a try.
Here's hoping!

I suggest you guys to use it. :yep: As you can see for your self, TWoS CTD reports are pretty rare these days and many users don't have any problems with it, including my self. All instability and CTD problems are now almost always user related, so make sure to be thorough in your reports so we can figure out what went wrong...:yep: Cheers! :salute:

It's actually 24 days by default but I don't understand what's so shocking about it?? :hmmm: Historically in ww2, U-boat preparation for next patrol lasted well over a month. Anyway, you can tweak your bunker pauses manually or with included KSDCommander application...Read documentation...

For my part, I apologize for casting any dispersion on TWoS. I will refer to the bugs board. FWIW - I didn't say I have had any CTDs. The failures I have had have all been failed functionality within SH5/TWoS. Right now I have SH5/TWoS working, so I have no bugs to report. Maybe I did miss some crucial step in the first three attempted installs. Time will tell.
On another note, should TC have anything to do with stability? Like I said, I was intending to run SH5/TWoS without TC, but is that even a possibility I should concern myself?

With TWoS, not so much. Alt-tabbing on the other hand can mess up your game. Anyway, playing any SH game without TC is just too much "hardcore" for my taste..:yep:

If you have disk space make a copy of your SH5 install and after you run the TWoS install on it create a short cut to start the game with and don't start it using steam. The TWoS installer
has an option that basically converts your steam SH5.exe to a standalone DVD version. It will still launch Uplay but it bypasses steam completely. I have 3 separate SH5 installs still within my Steam folder but they are not altered by Steam unless I launch them using Steam. I keep one as a backup of the original game, one for career and one for mod creation.

IT should if you save a copy of the SH5. exe that you made during the TWoS install and then just copy it to the version using The other mega mod and launch it from that SH5.exe or a shortcut of it. Remember the key to this is that the SH5.exe gets converted as part of the TWoS install. As I said it will still launch Uplay ,theres no getting around that but you can set the settings in it to be offline mode but it shouldn't change anything anyway if you are using the 1.20 version of SH5

by the way for those of you using my texture mods I finally got around to installing the latest updates for TWoS and they should still work just fine in either TWoS or a standard game. I have been really busy in the real world, mixing 2 albums and have a client ending their tour and coming in to the studio at the end of the month to start a new album, and this is the first chance I have had to post anything about it.

From the next update every item you sellect from the equipment page will have clear and unambiguous (with BIG LETTERS) English translation which is impossible to miss. In your campaign the translation will become visible only after new campaign start though since the old descriptions is already embedded in your gamesaves... Here is a small example...

Yes, that is already the technique I use (I do like your channel, by the way, very informative), I was just unsure if I should eyeball the WSW, ENE etc. or use its specific value. Sadly at times it doesn't work, possibly because the convoy changed speed and/or course.

I were a bugtracker / amateur modder back in 2015,

I backed up my 1.05 install, and made a clean install + installed the latest TWOS.

-I've seen that radio beacon positions were added to help real navigation.
Yet when I ask my radioman either from the menu, or personally XD to report nearest radio stations INSIDE OUR HARBOR, he reports that no radio stations available. So the beacons somehow does not work. What can be a problem? Or am I missing something here?
-I noticed the two MG34 mounted on the sides of the conning tower of my VIIB. (they are present on the "more spacey" lvl 2 VIIB tower at least...)
They look very detailed and cool. Now... How can I get RID of them...? :D I know, they are hsitorically correct to be there, but I presume they are not going to be manned, and they are ruining the look of the tower XDDD
also a very stupid question, as I completely forget:

Torpedoes malfunction logic is now controlled by Generic Patcher. This the reason why you will still have duds even if you disable appropriate option from gameplay settings menu... :yep:

Radio beacons are there but they are not active all the time. By default I set them to be active something like 8-10 hours per day in order to simulate radio silence ect...:yep:

You can not end patrol in Memel. You'll have to dock in Kiel. Try to sink couple of Polish ships before you dock or the game will give you negative rating points due to low tonnage and these points are really important for regular new subs offers...:yep:

Sank 2 minelayers, though one still needed time to sink, (was already burying it's hurt bow under waterline) when Herr Göring's boys took the glory from me by bombing the living daylight out of it.
(So I were credited for only the first one...) though I sank a small merchant later, so that's officially 2...

Nice, then I can switch back to 87% reality :D and leave only the cams active. I do not mind duds if they are not on the stock side...
Another thing:
I did not add encrypted Bdu messages this time through JSGM, (need some time settling back) but an enigma msg was still received in the Memel mission.
Last thing:
I noticed that "core" TWOS mods are missing from JSGM, I believe as they are -core- and cannot be just deactivated anymore through JSGM.
That is fine, but if... :D I add a mod in JSGM, then it is not going to be compared against the core TWOS mod, only to mods activated via JSGM, to show if some files are conflicting...
That means, if I am right, that even all 3 of my mods do not show any signs in JSGM of changing files other mods did, it can be beause core TWOS is not checked... ONly the part mods that are activated via JSGM- right?
Soo... I seek a way to tell if my old mods are meddling with TWOS changed content.. ... :D
Well... I can log in, post a message in the bar, and read others- etc.
No error msg anymore. And I'm shown as logged in.
But... yet it does not produce any errormessage, and while my local profile shows the data I want,
hitting update does not refresh my profile stored in Aces online. It's still in the state as it last refreshed a few years ago..
Chances are, that it is because the captain's name is the same.. But it is a new career.
So someone needs to test this, that they can refresh the online profile.

Huh, I had to change current date, as I docked in Kiel in 1939 09 03,
and days in bunker are added AFTER mission selection and patrol start...
Hence I was only able to choose Baltic Operations..
So I changed the current date of the last base enter (and actual current date at teh top of the files) to 05 instead in both of the two CareerTrack.upc . (and changed day and current day to 05 aswell in the .mis file)
to be able to start British Coastal.
Is it anyhow risky?
Another thing: fps in port are alot lower than it was in 1.05 around 17-22- out on patrol it was between 40 and 60.
now its between 6 and 9... in Kiel Port.
Are there many graphical improvements added?

It seems that SH5 is not using the available resources. Sh5 with TWOS 1.05 used to fly on it. (around 25 fps in crowded places, and around 40-60 in open sea battles with2-3 ships - was the same a few days ago with the previous 1.05 install)
I believe I'm missing something here after the reinstall, as I am using the same stock options: all on high, with no vertycal sync, no antialias,
1600x900.
Did I forget some optimization we used to do in cfg files or what?

Ok so, the WOS mod already contains MFC mod with stock faces, and the old faces are kinda becoming boring. Is there a way to change the mod to Alt faces without screwing up everything else?

Sadly, no- Since I started my 1.05 after 3 years a few days ago, with integrated by accident, and half the lighting caused some cement-like visuals, and horrid FPS, I made sure SH5.exe is always used with the high-end nvidia chip.
It would be very noticeable, as the integrated one cannot handle half the effects. 1.05 were flying after that.
Also: while it is not around 60 like with 1.05 a few days ago, fps on patrol in grid AN55 with 2.2.16 is around 40-45fps and it was kinda stable fps even during fighting. A bit of pauses sometimes when looking around in the comand room, but this is SH.. So 45 compared to 8 fps XD is a huge difference between open sea battles, and a peaceful port... Same patch, same day, same gamestart. Nothing left open in the background.
So it seems that it DOES have something to do with ports / crowded places.
Ow... I've just seen some old post by me asking about switching off the increased rendering distance to go back to 20km from 40.
Maybe I did, and that's how I achieved high fps in 1.05.
A question: If I understand right, after getting rid of 40km distance, only my sonarman would not hear above 20km, but someone written 3 years ago, that I myself can still hear them around 40. Sounds.. Weird, but I would love if it would be true.
Still, 4 fps in ports and 10 fps WELL after getting some distance are a no-go. Any ideas? I believe something graphically challenging were added, or a lot more units spawn in ports compared to 1.05, but this is just a hunch.
BUT! The Good News: I went through the canal, (sometimes with 1-2 fps at the start on 64x TC, but got to almost 20 in the middle) alt-tabbed sometimes to brute-force test the stability XD (though only after opening the main menu hence pausing the game, not with active game) went to grid AN55, a lot of times with 1024x tc, listened to gramophone with my own sound files, saved and reloaded shedload of times even during attacks, not caring about anything, trying to ruin the game- spent more than 8 ..real life... hours ingame, with one start, and then exited WITHOUT ANY CTD AT ALL during that time.....
In 1.05 on update 17, when it was kinda stable compared to previous versions, I had ctd once per hour regurarily, or per around 40 mins when there were many units present.
SO 2.2.16 gentlemen... are... Seems to be stable as an oak. Congratulations!
and the only odd thing I realized that I received a yellow radio MSG to investigate a spot, where is something heading to 314, but the coordinates was -exactly- where I sank my last merchant many hours ago. Had to go back, regurarily went underwater to check the hydrophone, etc, spent an hour trying to catch anything, but only had luck to find 2 wandering destroyers.
Anyone knows how this "investigate this and that" mechanic works? Why is it sent me back to my last sank prey? Also this was the first msg to investigate anything, I found that prey in normal patrol sweep, and was an isignificant, lonely small merchant, only torpedoed her as when earlier I started to use the deck gun on her, 2 destroyers came... XD
P.S.:
I still remember faintly that we used to modify some config files to adjust the ram, maybe video ram, and maybe CPU threads(?) the game using...?

Yes, the mod calls: "Conus´ Das Boot Crew faces" mod. No problems with TWoS mod!
Well, that is true about ports, but 1.05 somehow never went that low in fps so I have to find a solution.

Stable 20-ish fps in the most crowded places in 1.05 compared to 5-8 in 2.2.16 has to be changed.
I have an I7-4710HQ with 4x2.50 gigs as a cpu, an Nvidia Geforce 850m, and 8 gig of DD3 ram. I remember we did somethng about either the CPU threads, and/or the max video ram(?) that is allowed to use, or something similar...?

I activated my old JSGM mods tailored for 1.05 to try, but I really need to re-do them using latest TWOS files, as I believe even that JSGM does not notify about any conflict, these files WERE modified by TWOS 2.2.16 core. Just the main TWOS mod is not activated through JSGM anymore, so I cannot see what files are modified.
So far I noticed that my crew appearance mod may break the conversations. As on my baltic mission (without it) I was able to go to the next conversation lines after discussing the first ones with the officers. I give you an example: Dieter Epp the second officer still always refer the kids as "chips of the old block", and number one can only be interviewed about the Royal Navy. So it seems all conversations stuck in lvl 1 sincer I activated my old mod.
this mod basically changes what they wear. Mostly stock stuff I believe, but adds and removes some caps, medals, etc.
my second mod puts my smiling bastard picture in the captain's place in the crew window,
and there is one mod I made that removes loud footsteps and some more sounds when you entered to listen to the hydrophone, it worked with 1.05 but now seems broken.
Another mod that I did not activated yet, as I am 100% sure it DOES conflict, is a mod that lets you use arrow buttons to control the periscope alignment instead of waiving bluntly around with the mouse. arrows for normal speed, ctrl+arrows for slow speed turn, and shift+arrows for fast turn but I'm maybe remembering wrong.
I intend to tailor these and future mods exactly for 2.2.16, but somehow I should see the conflicts.. What lines needs to be injected to since-modified 2.2.16 files instead of using 1.05 modified versions.

TWoS is stable. :)
If you have a Nvidia GC use Inspector to fix the frames (mine, 30 FPS). Leave the control of AA to the game and AFx16 in Inspector.
I have an I5 with 16 gb RAM, 8 GB Nvidia GC, and never had problems with FPS in ports. My res. is 1920x1080. Running on W10 creator pro 1909 update.
All graphics maximized in SH5. Full options.

AA is rigidly disabled. :P Instead MSAA I use Reshade for SMAA antialias, post process- it means 1-2 fps difference you can switch it off via hotkey ingame.

If you say that these are correct in 1939, I might leave them there - (they look awesome, just still making the bridge a bit stuffed for my taste, but I'm getting used to them slowly. Realism is a #1 priority for me even more than my hectic "everything msut look the way I want" stuff.
But did you try using the ingame AA only? Also I had problems using external AA, etc. The ingame AA, maximized, is very good for me and obtain more than 40-50 in ports with traffic, I fixed it at 30 FPS with Inspector.

shadows on max, everything is on max, but the res is always 1600x900.
I still remember we used some kind of max ram / max video ram, or CPU thread optimization based on system spec...
but beats me where.
Performances are such as they are. Latest TWoS versions have significantly more traffic in ports and that is the main reason for your poor FPS in harbors, especially Kiel. Note that shadows are the biggest FPS killer in game. I suggest you to disable them (at least in ports)...
I'm not aware of any useful CPU/RAM optimization tweaks for SH5...
EDIT
You can extract TWoS installer using Winrar or 7zip somewhere on your HDD in order to compare the files and optimize your old mods. Just be really careful because TWoS files contain a lot of crucial tweaks and every file in the archive is there for a good reason. Yes, version 2.2 is really stable but that can easily be broken by inadequate modding. Happy hunting!

Are you using 4GB Patch or LAA? Some people using it in SH5, some people not. It was discussed if it has some effect on sh5.exe. Backup your sh5.exe, and try it. I have the sh5.exe patched with LAA and no problems, no bad effect, but not a great improvement, though.
In Kiel I have a fixed 30 FPS with all the anchored ships, traffic, buildings and smokes (smoke addon). Also in Lorient. Using, as told, ingame AA, AF from Nvidia Inspector, x16. All graphics maximized.
The only event with a little slow FPS (18-20) is when I have smoke and water inside the boat - control room. I go to sonar station, close the hatch, and FPS return to my ever fixed 30 FPS.
I added only some cosmetic mods to TWoS (rusted glory, conus crew, Pascal uniforms...), and no problem with they. But it is highly recommended do not use any aditional mod in TWoS, except the included addons.

Herr Vdr, that IS an answer, thank you. Then the main suspect is the traffic.
Also, as you mention it, I can only suspect that I used to tweak SHIII... for hardware optimization... I checked all cfg files I can find in SH5 game data, AND in SH5 in documents, but nothing engine related apart from the visual settings you can modify ingame.
Something IS fishy though, as I tried the following:
(reloaded my Kiel port save, as that is the 8 fps one- I just found a 10+ ship convoy yesterday, and my FPS is like 40 there.)
-tried running in win 7 compatibility.
-capped frames to 40 in inspector. Also tried max rendered frames set to 3, (more input lag, but more fps) for no effect.
-tried not just setting the shadows to nil, but setting every slider to zero, and switching off EVERY tickbox.
I gained 2 fps. 2. (10-11 now in Kiel in tc1) so it seems that my card can superbly handle even the max shadows --> as they make no difference. Do not take it wrong, I tried every change and seen ALL the differences in visuals, so they WERE applied alright, (getting more blank and sh*tty) just the fps gain was 1-2...
Why Im harping on this is simple:
-I have 8-9 fps in Kiel, but: my notoriously overheating CPU and GPU remains cool. So the game DOES NOT use the all resources it should. WHile in games when my fps drops below 30 is because the hardware can't handle more, hence heavy heating starts because of the heavy usage...
Also: -SH5 NEVER uses more than 2 gig of ram listed in the processes. Weird. In the middle of Kiel it is 1800 something mb.

There is an antilag injection for SH5, reported broken in win10, (though I use win 8 pro) but I use inspector for max fps cap., and as for the other feature of this "antilag" : reducing input lag usually produces LESS FPS, though more responsive controls, so I wasn't thinking about that. FPS is everything. XD
About modding: I think I found my old explanation how I implemented the arrow key controls for the periscope, so I can make a 2.2.16 version.
There was a short time when it was considered for including as an option in TWOS 1.07.
On the other hand... Hell, applying the officer / crew appearance modifications in those lot of files again is going to be annoying XD
One question: as per current TWOS, where can I switch off the increased rendering distance Open Horizon mod, or what file needs to be modified?

Hell, it seems I forgot to activate my no loud footsteps etc. mod during hydrophone listening... It might as well still work.
Edit 2: nope, as I check the forum here it did -not- worked ever. So dropping no loud crew sounds during hydrophone idea now.
Good news: apart from I am going to make a 2.2.16 version (modifying the 2.2.16 commands file) of the arrow keys mod, for now I checked my activated mods:
2 of them only contains texture files-
and the weird stuff is: I compared the files from my custom crew mod (Crew_Idle_actions files) with notepad++ compare plugin-
and made my changes to the files from 2.2.16 core.
BUT: the only differences AT ALL was alot of beards activated in 2.2.16 (was already there, jsut someone removed the comment out symbols) and I added an extra hat in mine...
I deactivated the beards XD and added that line with the extra hat.
Bad news, as I suspected these 2.2.16 files are going to be different from the 1.05 stock ones MORE than just some activated beards.
As I suspected ealier that the officer dialogs stopped progressing because of this mod. (my other two mods as I mentioned only contain texture files)
So the only difference my currently activated own mods have compared to 2.2.16 (apart from some texture files) that some lines adding beards and hats were different in my mods files and in 2.2.16 files.
On the first patrol in the baltic mission in 2.2.16 I was able to progress in the personal conversations, more options opened up with each officers, while now they seems to be stuck on their first "personal" conversation lines.
Do you experienced something similar?
Any idea what can be the cause?

Antilag by Kegetys doesn´t work in W10 (and I suspect neither in W8). But you can use as antilag the FPS fixer in Nvidia Inspector.

I have a gut feeling that only turning off the "improved rendering distance" will help me.
I wish I know how XD as I cannot find Open Horizon in JSGM mods, OR in the Options Viewer Editor anymore

That patch is disabled by default. 40 km is minimum rendering distance in SH5 and it can not be reduced, in stock or modded game.

Can anyone tell me when 2.2.9 came out? I don't really want to restart my campaign and i ran in to no issues as of yet when playing my old save on 2.2.15.

Hello slipper,
the problems that you are experiencing with the game is most likely due to the recent 'silent patch' that was released for Silent Hunter 5, which seemingly has made TWoS or the Generic Patcher incompatible with the game. And it seems to have impacted most of, if not all Uplay users. I am not sure about Steam users. The disc version seems to run fine for some reason. I do not believe that there is a fix to this issue at the moment, and I can't tell you if there will be a fix - at least any time soon. :/
The problems that most people have run into are crahsing to desktop when loading a savegame or new campaign, Uplay asking for an activation code upon starting the game through the created shortcut or the game not being able to start at all due to being stuck in the loading screen (the problem that you described).
Did you notice if the Generic Patcher only showed 8 patches instead of 9 as descirbed in the instructions? If that is the case (only 8 patches showing) I can pretty much assure you that it is the same problem.
There is a recent thread about the issue that I would suggest that you check out, just in case a solution comes up soon.

I have updated latest TWoS installers with a small Nobon's tweak for KSDCommander so if you wish to have this application fully functional again (server connection, chat ect) re-download and install the latest v2.2.16 update again...Cheers! :salute:

I believe I have the problem Niccerman mentioned mate, as the default game loads fine, only when I install TWos I get the continuous loading screen, also only 8 out of 9 patches installed as the index check is not correct for the 9th patch. I believe i will have to hope someone finds a workaround.

I assume that on high-end machines 1024 values can go even up to 2048. TC settings aren't that much important in TWoS 2.2 since the mod is very stable.
Note that these TC settings can work only with TWoS because TC drop to x1 is also controlled by several OFEV options.
These won't work with regular custom modlists...

If you know someone who has the Steam version all you need is the SH5.exe file. Copy the one you have as a backup then replace the steam sh5.exe in folder. Then rerun the patcher and you should get all 9 patches. Be sure to launch the game from the new patched sh5.exe or a shortcut of it.

What is this "silent patch"???? I have Uplay settings "on" for automatic updates of the Ubi games. Never I see it downloading a new patch for SH5 1.2, and my TWoS 2.2.16 is working fine. In fact, I see for the first time awards in SH5 (not KSD, in game), after a raid in Scapa.
@Vecko: Can I update my 2.2.16 with the new 2.2.16 update with the correction for KSD? Overwriting with the patch my full 2.2.16 installation, I mean.

I have created a tutorial which will give players access to all patches.
While it is very unusual to have this sort of problem with TWoS players manually installing the GFP who do not play TWoS sometimes can patch to the wrong folder if they are not carefull with their install.

Alright,
I proceeded to download the zip-file (or in my case it is a winrar file) and the problem is not a missing patch in the TDW GenericPatcher folder as you say in your instructions. The file "TDW_SH5_Patches" is present in the folder, however, the generic patcher seems to be unable to open or register it at all.

Let me guess....your game is a Uplay download and that is why you cannot patch the SH5.exe?
I have patched 3 different SH5 exe's with it but not the STEAM one and they all work installing the game and loading the game.
You need to replace your SH5.exe with a genuine one and see if that is the answer.

It seems that this Mod is not integrated in WoS. If yes, I apologize being wrong.
It should enable RPM estimation based on sound pulses and number of blades and consequently speed estimation.
I don't know if this mod is really accurate but I guess this method was used during WW2 as a first rough speed estimation for long distance boat. It should increase immersion.
Any feedback on it?

The steam Sh5.exe will work as well but it requires you to re- run the installer for TWOS to have the SH5. exe converted prior to being patched by the Generic patcher .

This combo works fine, gives me a game that looks great, gives me the casual gameplay{no real Navigation, etc} that I actually have time for.
But please note I launch my game from a shortcut of the sh5.exe in that versions folder. That means it launchs Uplay but not Steam, when I launch the game. This is important because when Steam does an update it will overwrite this file if you launch the game from steam. Also I forgot to mention I copied all my games original voice sound files to the install which I play because I prefer the voices to be in English rather than German.

The easier option would seem to be to purchase a steam version, however I can only find it on steam for £25 as part of a bundle with SH3 and SH4 , which is too expensive for me for a game I already own!!
So looks like TWoS is off limits unless a new patcher can be made for the Uplay exe

You should have tried to replace problematic sh5.exe with included steam converter tool (Silent Hunter 5\Resources\TWoS_Setup\SH5updateSteam.exe)

I have updated latest TWoS installers with a small Nobon's tweak for KSDCommander so if you wish to have this application fully functional again (server connection, chat ect) re-download and install the latest v2.2.16 update again...Cheers! :salute:

Thats really a good news! :D Iam a big fan of this tool, it brought a "little smell" of online feeling to SH5.
Hope the server will stay online in the future because it seems that Warham left this community, who is maybe the host from the KSD server too. :hmmm:

Just getting into this mod and it's awesome!! Thanks modding team. Unfortunately I can't yet jump on board, for turns out my gyro angle doesn't act the way i see it video tutorials (before anyone asks, those where Wolfes of Steel tutorials).
My gyro angle doesn't change it's values when I move attack scope arround, if i do manual TDC information input. What am i missing here?

After several month I started to play SH5 again.
Had to move SH5 from C: to D: because space on C: ran out.
Copied SH5 folder from C: to D:.
Uplay was not able to find new location on D:.
Installed SH5 again from my original SH5 DVD to D:.
Uplay updated to V1.2. Everything is working fine.
Today I installed Uplay at my office PC. :-)
Uplay downloaded SH5, and it worked fine (V1.2).
Installed "The Wolves of Steel - SH5 Megamod" and it failed.
Copied SH5.EXE from running SH5 at home to my office PC.
Everything works fine!

"U400 - Originally credited to the depth charges of HMS Nyasaland, a Colony-class frigate, on December 17, 1944, off the south coast of Ireland. Now discovered, definitely mined, in the swept channel area off Padstow, sometime in December 1944. Nyasaland's target off south Ireland is now considered to have been U772, originally credited to Sunderland aircraft attack, but she now seems to have survived that attack and is now changed to that ship's credit off Ireland. Divers have uncovered the wrecks of three Second World War German U-boats off the Cornish coast, which have shed light on a British operation that has remained secret for more than 60 years.
Historians were amazed at the discovery of the catastrophically damaged U-boats which are lying in close proximity to each other seven miles off Newquay, because no U-boats had ever been recorded being lost there previously.
After extensive research it was revealed they had been the victims of a secret minefield laid especially to trap such vessels after the British intercepted a radio message from a U-boat commander. His boat had sunk a British destroyer after discovering a gap in the minefield between Cornwall and Ireland to allow supply ships in to Cardiff and Bristol.
He radioed the news back to Germany, but the message was deciphered by British intelligence at Bletchley Park. As a result the British laid deep mines designed to allow surface ships through but trap U-boats.
Historians were unaware of the secret U-boat death trap until the Government de-classified wartime documents recently. And now the discovery of the three wrecked U-boats off Cornwall has shown just how successful it was.
Naval historian Eric Grove said the fate of the U-325, U-400, and U-1021, which disappeared in late 1944 and early 1945 was revealing.
"This shows the deep trap minefield was far more successful in killing U-boats than first thought," he said. "It was only recently the Government revealed the existence of this deep water minefield and the presence of these wrecked U-boats shows how effective it was. The U-boat crews were under orders to patrol coastal waters hunting Allied shipping at the end of the war because the Atlantic campaign was over. Admiralty records show two of the three U-boats in question were thought to have been sunk by depth charge in the Bristol Channel. This new research shows that was wrong and they actually struck mines off Cornwall." ALSO: https://uboat.net/articles/69.html (https://uboat.net/articles/69.html) However, following a promising situation report from the English Channel (https://uboat.net/maps/channel.htm) area by U 978 (https://uboat.net/boats/u978.htm), U 680 (https://uboat.net/boats/u680.htm) was redirected to the latter area on 2 December 1944. Only two days latter U 400 received the order to patrol off the Cornish coast as a replacement for U 680.
Through Ultra decrypts the British Admiralty was well and timely informed about all of the above-mentioned German situation reports and operational intentions. According to the Naval Staff History of British Mining Operations 1939-1945 Vol. I, the Admiralty issued a policy signal to CinC Western Approaches on 15 November 1944 stating that "further consideration has been given to the relative importance of anti-U-boat minefields in the NW and SW Approaches. Routing of ocean convoys south of Ireland not only renders this the more attractive area but U-boats' course of action can to some extent be anticipated. In the NW Approaches, mine-laying operations must follow rather than anticipate U-boat activities. […] Consider therefore as a matter of policy that mine-laying operations should be concentrated in the SW Approaches”. In pursuance of their stated policy and to meet the expected concentration of U-boats in the SW Approaches, the Admiralty ordered, by signal on 25 November 1944, that the minelayer HMS Apollo should lay three lines of deep mines off Trevose Head, before cleaning boilers and making good defects at Plymouth. The operation “HW” was to be conducted by C in C, Plymouth, and it was forecast that the minelayer HMS Plover would be available, at the beginning of December, to continue these fields along the swept channel between Trevose Head and Hartland point in operation “HY”. Between 29 November 1944 and 3 January 1945, the two minelayers laid over 1,200 Mk XVII moored mines in 11 ‘deep fields' across the coastal convoy route along the north coast of Cornwall. Moored mines were used because ground mines sensitive enough to catch slow-moving U-boats would also have posed a threat to Allied surface ships. It will be noted that these mines were placed exactly within the area U-boat Command had explicitly declared mine-free in its amendment to the Bristol Channel situation report on 18 November 1944. Being aware of this advice, the British Admiralty set a well-placed mine-trap.
Comparison of the exact geographical coordinates for the individual mine fields with the nautical positions of the three U-boat wrecks revealed that each of the wreck positions are a nearly a perfect match with one of the above mentioned minefields:....https://uboat.net/media/articles/images/u325_400_1021.gifWreck No 1 is fitted with the old Type 1 folding schnorkel installation with half-height pressure flange connection to the diesel air intake tube along the port side of the conning-tower casing in combination with a ring-float schnorkel valve with Wesch-type anti-radar coating on the circular stem tube between the exhaust outlet and the ring-float head. No anti-radar coating is found on the drum-shaped ring-float head. The circular foundation plate for a deck gun originally installed on type VIIC (https://uboat.net/types/viic.htm) boats is clearly in place in front of the conning-tower, forward to the rectangular hatch covering the former ready-for-use ammunition space. In addition, the gun mount of the 3.7 cm AA gun now lying on top of the wreck closely resembles the late-war Type LM43U gun mount. U 400 was fitted with one of the first such mounts for frontline testing. While U 1021 is known to have been fitted with a ball-float schnorkel head, U 325 is recorded to have carried the Jaumann-type anti-radar coating on its ring-float type schnorkel head. In addition, U 325 was never fitted with the deck gun foundation plate. Based on this evidence, it is concluded that the identity of the wreck No 1 should be that of U 400. According U-boat Command’s daily plot, U 400 was expected to arrive in its operational area on or shortly after 14 December 1944. Thus it is entirely plausible that U 400 met its end only days after laying of the new A/S minefield

The Sh5.exe is only 1 file from the game and if the file is a modified version of the Sh5.exe it might be possible, since it is not the complete game, but best to check with a competent copyright attorney to make sure. My suggestion is that people get the Steam version of the game and run the converter on it, rather than the uplay version of the game, or if they have a friend who is willing to give them a copy of their steam version of the sh5.exe file to use it and run the conversion on it. Alternatively their used to be a tutorial on here somewhere to convert the sh5.exe with a hex editor that might do the trick for those with the uplay version.

I don't think its a mod protection thing. I think they just did something to their u play thing cause I noticed my old Watch Dogs has a new file date on it's .exe too. Maybe they changed some kind of log in protocol or something that needed
changed to work with their servers. It doesn't seem to have affected the Steam or DVD versions though. My Steam version of SH5 still works just fine with TWoS.

I use it, and it is a bit of a bother, the worst of it being though that I will get anywhere from 2 to 6 "authentication" codes... which leads me to believe that they have issues. I will usually have my email open when I know I'm going to play a Ubi game, since I know they'll ask me for a code. I will then use the first code they send. By the time I'm finished logging-in and going back to my email, there is always another code, with a different number, and sometimes there are several more. Makes me wonder what kind of "bouncing" the ip packets are doing when I'm sending my initial request, or do they have issues with their servers?... :salute:

don't use the two part authentication my self.
had SH5 + twos 2.2.15 ( installed when .2.2.15 released ) and just started the game and was ok.
updated too 2.2.# to 2.2.16 and the game loaded to menu ok and ( testing to see if was only with new installs of SH5 or not) showing correct versions and gives the loading bar then black screen and CTD'ed <--- guess its not....
just got the Sub Buddy attack disk installed on the ipad too :wah::wah:

I know about this.
In fact, I do have some photos of U-400, which my grandmother kept private for a long long time helped identifying the boat.
I send them to Mr. Dr. Axel Niestlé and he used them to identify the boat without mentioning the source. :nope:
He even used one of the pictures in one of his books/pubilcations. Not the right way to publicate scientific research!
In near future I will publish this and more informations about U-400 on my page www.U-400.de (http://www.U-400.de).
But I will add a watermark to the pictures this time. :hmmm:

With all the problems people have been having lately with The uplay update I would like to mention that for those using Windows 10, Microsoft did a fairly large update not long ago to Windows ver 1903 which I have and use. After the update some of my security settings changed, particularly the settings that lock changes to your documents folder. I noticed that I had to set some of my games under these new security settings to be able to save games. Sh5 was one of them. Some of the games I have would just seem to kind of hang and never launch until I changed these settings. So this is just a kind of heads up for anyone who may have this problem.

Yes in Windows 10 ver 1903 the settings under the Virus protection, specifically the Ransomware settings, block changes to certain folders on your system. One of these is your "My Documents" folder which is where a lot of games store your save games and sometimes even game settings. After the recent update I had to change the settings in this section to allow some of my games to write save games to their folders within the "My Documents" folder. Sh5 was one of those games. I had a couple of games that didn't want to start because they take their save settings from their save folders. Once I set the security settings in Windows to allow the games access to the "My Documents" folder everything works normally. So if people have a problem getting Sh5 to start and you are using Windows 10 ver 1903{I believe this is the latest release},then be sure to check your security settings as this may be the culprit.

Not my case with W10 1903, but each PC is a closed world....

As I say this has to do with the ransomeware security settings. Mine were not even turned on before this update and after the update they were. I know this update is what made the change because I run 2 completely separate copies of Windows 10 ver 1903 on my system and dual boot them. One side is for Internet surfing and gaming and the other runs the software for my home music studio, which only gets connected for software updates. I run the same software on it as at the work studio because I sometimes bring projects home to mix here. After the update I had to make an exception to allow my Drum sampler access to make some saves too.
So it may depend on whether or not you have the Ransomeware protection active in your security settings. If so it's an easy fix just check if any file was blocked and make an exception for it in the settings. As I say I first noticed it because of a couple of games not starting, just going to menu then hanging when they couldn't load their save state.

Thus far, my Steam SH5, on a Windows 10 computer that has a Ubisoft UPlay SH4 on it, and also on a Windows 7 computer, with a disk version of SH4, works just fine. I just did a re-install of my Steam SH5 on the Win10 box the other day to test it, and it was fine with the new install, and with TWoS on top of that. All functions as expected, including my stumbling up and down the ladders on the boat... :roll: :doh: :salute:

Yes and yes, I copied my backed-up sh5.exe-file and thus overwrite the "new" updated sh5.exe-file. "Online play" and cloud save works, Uplay seems not realize that I reverted back to the old sh5.exe-file. My savefiles where never broken, just wouldn't load (ctd) after the Uplay game-update. Works fine now and no more nagging from Uplay.

Honestly, I do not think that there should be legal troubles in including a working SH5.exe in this mod. It is not like providing a cracked version of that file, you still need to own the game to play. So there is no copyright violation.
In the end, the .exe file is like any other file this mod contains, which is basically an edited version of an original file. :D

Well the only throats that Ubi are cutting with their update is their own as far as new sales are concerned, cause the steam version still works fine with TwoS ,in fact even better cause after the conversion you can launch the game without even launching Steam at all. And as far as I know the DVD version works fine too.

Game loads to the bridge ok.

But I do NOT have issues running TWoS, though I do have that odd combination of a UPlay SH4 and Steam SH5... It looks like Ubi is attempting to emulate the Steam way of checking license validity online each time you start the game, but they put a few bytes in the executable to make it easier on themselves... :salute:

My install is using the Steam version, but after the TWoS install during which the SH5.exe gets converted I can launch the game from either the SH5.exe file or a shortcut to it which I have on my desktop which completely bypasses Steam. Steam does not launch at all, only the Uplay thingy and it functions normally. Sync's to servers or whatever it does with no problems. Also the game is stored on another hard drive from where my Windows 10 install is located. In fact I have 3 installs , the first one is a pure Steam install for backup purposes and will launch Steam if I start it. The Second is a Pristine TWoS install with no changes to it, as a backup for it,and the third is a TWoS install with my graphics mod, the English language files copied from my Steam version, and a few tweaked mods that change the periscope graphics, water color, and the older Dynamic Environment(ver 2.1) wave motions which look more realistic to me. This 3rd version is the one which I use. It plays fine and has no problems.
So in essence the SH5.exe either converted from the Steam one, or the DVD SH5.exe with a Uplay download install of the game works , correct?

Just a few notes Peter...
You must accept the STEAM conversion when it appears as this will patch the SH5.exe and all 9 patches will be installed.
The SH5.exe retains the correct number of kilobytes of 4458 where as the Uplay download SH5.exe is 4461.
Steam converter is not really necessary for DVD users although it wont brake anything even if accepted...
Also , I can see that in your tutorial uplay is in online mod, which is not really smart these days. You are literally asking from ubisoft to screw up your sh5.exe by launching the game trough the "update" button. Offline mod and disabled automatic game updates are a must IMO...:yep::salute:

The previous DVD install without using the STEAM converter I got an error message when installing the GFP and only 8 patches installed.
This time I used the STEAM converter and no error message
I do mention about going offline and there is a separate tutorial link at the bottom, but I will make it more prominent.
I will check out the disabled game updates option.

I have two questions:
1. I use campaign progress workaround. In chapter Coastal Waters i was super-lucky and i spotted and sunk three Queen Elizabeth class battleships - HMS Barham, HMS QE, HMS Malaya. The question is: Will I spot them in chapter Happy Times if i had to use Campaign Progress Workaround? Or it is saved that these ships are sunk, even if i had started HappyTimes not in "normal way"?
2. Can i get U-boot VIIC slightly faster, not 25.02.1941, but for example in October 1940, by changing availability dates in Flotillas.upc file? I am bored of my VIIB :P

I did come across one problem though.
If after installing TWoS and starting the game offline using my existing saved games I saw this.

Simply in the correction patches there is an option called "Advance users", you deactivate that option and the simulator will run without connecting to Uplay.

What ever drive you have your Steam library on. For example My Steam Library is on my E drive where I have all my games installed. So the path to my game is E:\Steam Library\Steam\SteamApps\common\Silent Hunter5\Sh5.exe
When you run the TWoS installer let it do the Steam conversion. Follow the instructions for the install. After the install launch Sh5 from either the SH5.exe or create a desktop shortcut to sh5.exe and use it to launch your game. It will still launch the Uplay thing but it should not launch steam at all.

That's correct. You can disable uplay completely trough the Generic Patcher but in that case automatic campaign transfers won't work. However, this problem can be bypassed by campaign transfer workaround described in the included "TWoS_Alternative Campaign Progression.pdf" tutorial...:yep:

I have a little question, is it possible to play TWoS without any "Nazi Design"? I mean i hate this German Nazi Flag on my U Boat.. I would take the Russian one or another ("dont matter what flag") but is there a way to play without it? I mean with No flag? Like it is in the stock game?
Sorry I know this is history accurate, but my grandgrandfather and Grand Uncle (i'm a russian girl) are both dying in the 2nd World War killed by germans. I dont hate the Germans for that, because it was War.. But i dont want to see (if possible) a Nazi Flag in the game. Any tip for me would be fine! If theres no way out then "it is what it is.." Maybe i can change the Nazi Flags in the bunker by myself? Or ist there a existing mod, cause i only find the "sub flag mod" but this mod dont work for me. The flags are always visible on the boat.

In each data/submarine/sub name/Eqp, scrolling down the list you’ll find flag part, and changing the start date for 19451231 should make the flag gone.
There’s 2 flags, 1 Nazi and 1 pirate, you can keep the pirate one if you still want a flag...

In SH5 folder,i no remember were,( now at work not have here pc-game) maybe in "texture" folder?.. there are 2 folders you need to search for "german flag" or "flags" ... no remember ... there are German flags with and without swastika, you must correctly rename those without swastika, and they will replace the others. for "long flags" in bunkers, those hanging on the wall, you have to replace another file .. but always always inside these folders .. I repeat I'm not at the PC now .. I don't remember all the necessary steps
For flags on U-boats i play with the TWoS MOD "no sub flag" enabled
In afternoon maybe if I can do a mini-mod "TWoS_no_svastica" JSGME ready.
But before ask permission by Vecko think this is more correct step.

I have a little question, is it possible to play TWoS without any "Nazi Design"? I mean i hate this German Nazi Flag on my U Boat.. I would take the Russian one or another ("dont matter what flag") but is there a way to play without it? I mean with No flag? Like it is in the stock game?
Sorry I know this is history accurate, but my grandgrandfather and Grand Uncle (i'm a russian girl) are both dying in the 2nd World War killed by germans. Optional mod to remove flags from players submarine is included in the package. However, to remove all other WW2 historically accurate flags and symbols from the mod would be much more complicated...

The sub flags addon in your TWoS parts folder should work in your installation. Activate or deactivate it with JSGME. It works for me.
In the bunker you need to edit the textures....
BTW you have a russian campaign for SH4 with russian submarines. The Battle of the Baltic mod. It is a nice and accurate mod but it is for SH4 1.5 only.

Thanks also fitzcarraldo, 1st also thanks for helping.. so last thing is first, i know the russian campaign in SH4 and also played it years ago, at this time i only played SH3 and SH4, SH5 was never a real compromise for me for all this lousy bugs in the game - BUT it has potential cause i think the grafics looks better then in SH3 and also SH4. Imagine Ubisoft would normally have released Silent Hunter 6 for a long time, if not the 7 part. And imagine how good that would be looking today? But unfortunately Ubisoft was and is a really miserable sloppy arrogant company! And I hate them for Part 5 because you see how important Ubisoft cares for their customers, not at all. But thats history and it is what it is...
My question fitzcarraldo is now: whats the name of the mod inside the JSGME? Cause there are many mods i have activated, please give me the name of the mod - that would be fine! Maybe other Gentleman here can help me out with the name of the Mod who is activated in TWoS which i cant recognize in the JSGME to deactivate the nazi flags. Thanks!

Be aware that using TWoS with custom and unsupported mods will bring back most of those "lousy bugs" you were talking about .

Well, the font is not so important, I almost picked the right one. What interests me most is the designations that talked about minefields, fairway and nets. What was the way to mark them on the map? Maybe someone from the knowledgeable people in this community will tell. I want to make a mod that would allow me to see all this on the map in the game.

Perhaps my English does not convey my thoughts. I’ll try to explain again what I need.
I need the notation that was mapped when detecting minefields, networks. Fairway symbols are also needed, as red and green were indicated. All this needs to be seen in the figure so that I can draw and implement in the game.
Regarding the joint card - I will be happy to share. So we need to find a common language so that you can adapt all this for TWoS. I have a lot of experience in terms of TWoS, for example, these windows. The screenshots are old and much redone, but the concept remains the same. All this is at the alpha stage.

I prefer the faces of the crew. If so, then the instruments should be optional or have the option to choose whether you want the faces or the instruments. A.g. as an optional mod in JSGME like the other ones.
BTW, the little icons on the faces are new or I'm wrong? I have not seen this before in current Version of TWoS

I have several years of using and customizing ENB' s in Skyrim and a couple other games, and I have messed with Sweet FX and Reshade in some other games, but SH5 has always frustrated me because it seemed if you got any real depth and vibrancy in the graphics it messed up the log or the radio messages to where you couldn't read them. But using the new version of reshade and the Beta Reshade manager linked below I got a look that I really like. Here is a link to some screenshots.:

and simply setting the Reshade manger on the setting for Battlefield 4. and the manger did the rest.
Just place the reshade .exe in the main SH5 folder and unzip the manger and place its contents in the main SH5 folder. Launch the manger and it will download the reshade shaders it needs and set them up then just click on the green controller icon to launch the game. In the screenshots you can see that using the built in frame counter in SH5 my frames stayed between 84fps outside and well over 100fps inside the boat in the screen shots. The manager may give you an unsafe file warning if you are using Windows 10 because it is an unsigned file but it is safe.

I'm using the Twos mod and it runs fine. I just prefer to hear English only from my crew. I know not really realistic considering I'm in German Uboat but would like to do that if possible. thank you for your help much appreciated.

I copied the English sound files from my backup copy of the game and it works fine. I use the Steam version of the game.

Also, when started via UPLAY, appears a text in the upper left corner telling reshade is active, etc. but I can't delete it, and remains there all the session.
I tried it in SH4 too, and all works fine without texts and the game starts without problems. But SH4 doesn't use UPLAY for start. I think there is a problem between reshade, sh5.exe and his relation to UPLAY.

Thanks! But I can launch the game from UPLAY with reshade, and with KSD without reshade. My installation is oldie; it is "1.2", not the damn "1.3". The problem is with reshade and Uplay, I believe.
Launching the game via KSD without reshade the game works fine as ever. I never have the problem of the new patch, because I use my DVD 1.0 and my old 1.2 patch when reinstall (but it is a lot of months I don´t reinstall SH5).

Maybe its not compatible with KSD. With my Steam version I can launch it from SH5.exe just fine with Reshade enabled. In fact I launch the game from a shortcut to my SH5.exe on my desktop. It then launches the Uplay thing then SH5 with no problems backs up game from servers, etc and loads up with the new shaders. Since TWOS install did the conversion on the SH5.exe when it installed it no longer loads Steam at all.
If you used the beta manager when you set it up make sure you used 32 bit in the selection and d3d9 or directx 9 as the API. This newest version of Reshade has support for directx 9 10, 11, 12 and vulkin as well as a plethora of shaders, and works across many game platforms, so you might have to expieriment with it some. I am by no means an expert on reshade. I've used ENB's a lot in Skyrim and a couple of older games, and I have used reshade in Elite Dangerous but that was using other peoples profiles. I know there used to be some guys on here trying to get Sweet FX to work with Sh5, but I think it interfered with the periscope compatibility patches for wide screens so nobody used it much.

It really helps to know how to do this if you are searching for a target in bad weather, or if a convoy is escorted by radar equipped destroyers.

Can someone please tell me or pm me the exact requirements for sub upgrades? All I find are vague responses when I try to search for the answers. The in game chart says 10/39 for VIIB. Some forum post said I have to wait till happy times. Some other post said it's entirely based on rating being Ace and not dates. I don't care about spoilers, so PM me the info if you don't feel comfortable posting it in public.
I would very much appreciate it if someone could tell me the requirements for each playable U-Boat. Or at least where to look in the files if it is view-able with a text editor.
What is the earliest date I can obtain each U-Boat?
What is the earliest campaign I can obtain each U-Boat?
What does my tonnage need to be to obtain each U-Boat?
What does my rating need to be to obtain each U-Boat?
Where does my base need to be to obtain each U-Boat?
Is the most recent patrol factored in somehow?
At this point I just want exact information because I've literally spent an entire day trying to find accurate information either searching the practically endless posts on these forums, or looking through game files.
I have 8k+ renown. In KSD commander my rating is listed as 5 after ending my 3rd patrol at Wilhemshaven. I edited my time in port before ending the baltic patrol at Kiel to 1 day so I would be sure to have time to do Breaking the Fortress. I completed the first patrol sinking the task force objective by sinking a sub. I returned with 10k tonnage from that patrol and started the next patrol a few days before breaking the fortress ended. During the second patrol I completed 3 grid objectives and returned with over 100k tonnage. The third patrol was breaking the fortress where I sunk two capital ships and some merchants, and returned with 73k tonnage on 10/19/1939. My rating after that 3rd Patrol in KSD Commander is 5 with 191,052 tons. When I exit the game it says I'm Ace. If I start a new patrol and skip it, I'm deducted a point but I'm still rated Ace at rating 4 yet no sub upgrade is offered.

I believe... maybe incorrectly... the earliest available dates for sub upgrades are listed in "\Silent Hunter 5\data\UPCDataGE\UPCCampaignData\Flotillas.upc" for anyone who absolutely 100% has to know. I backed up my save folder and changed the viib date for the 2nd flotilla and got the upgrade offer as soon as i docked. Then I changed the file back to the original date, and restored my original saves. Hopefully everything is compartmentalized enough that it doesn't bork something.

You are correct. As you can see, with your rating type VIIB will be offered to you most likely at the beginning of Happy Times campaign chapter...If you maintain your positive rating, Type VIIC is scheduled for third campaign chapter (WA/MN). If your rating goes negative until then, you probably won't receive new sub.

Probably...Lot of different things from different mods will still cause CTDs in regular modlists. Not in TWoS though...

Not do detract from the work of other modders, but I think I have created a more realistic and better looking Leigh Light model (the nacelle type used under the right wing of Catalinas and Liberators) than the one currently used in TWoS. Are you interested into having it in your megamod?

Okay, as you know adding new meshes to a GR2 file is not possible with GR2 editor. I am now looking for a stock file with five meshes (respectively for: the nacelle case, the glass dome, the reflector yoke, the reflector itself and the light beam).
If I don't find an appropriate GR2 file, I will import my model in a dat file instead.
One more question, is SH5's dumbed-down aircraft AI handling correctly RADAR data? For a perfect functionality, the Leigh Light should be coupled with a radar sensor, and their sim settings should be fine-tuned to work well with each other :)
