A beautiful love/protest song about life.
Namewee is a gifted, prolific, Malaysian songwriter, singer/performer/actor, comedian, film producer, etc etc.
Like all true artists he gets into trouble for "pushing the envelope". Malaysia has strict censorship laws. Namewee gets arrested, his music gets banned, and he also gets death threats from religious extremists. I feel for the guy, and love his work.

Poor Joan of Arc. I think she was the Real Deal. People scoffed at her, then they met her and became fervent followers. She knew what was happening hundreds of miles away as it was happening, and news only arrived days later.
At her "Trial" she conducted herself magnificently. And at her Execution English soldiers were crying, one made her a crude cross and gave it to her before she died. Her executioner had massive guilt for what he'd done.
Years later her poor mother got some redress with the help of the Pope ( Borgia ) and rumour has it that the Borgias organised some serious payback.
BOOHOO Too serious, let's have some light stuff. Singin' and Dancin'.

Sally called, when she got the word
She said "I suppose you've heard about Alice"
Well, I rushed to the window, and I looked outside
And I could hardly believe my eyes
This big limousine pulled slowly into Alice's drive
Oh, I don't know why she's leaving, or where she's gonna go
I guess she's got her reasons but I just don't want to know
'Cause for twenty four years I've been living next door to Alice
Twenty four years, just waitin' for a chance
To tell her how I'm feeling, maybe get a second glance
Now I've gotta get used to not living next door to Alice
Grew up together, two kids in the park
Carved our initials deep in the bark me and Alice
Now she walks to the door, with her head held high
Just for a moment, I caught her eye
As the big limousine pulled slowly out of Alice's drive

Sometimes in our lives
We all have pain
We all have sorrow
But if we are wise
We know that there's always tomorrow
Lean on me
When you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
Till I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on
Please
Swallow your pride
If I have things
You need to borrow
For no one can fill
Those of your needs
That you wont let show
Ya just call on me brother
When you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might have a problem that you'll understand
We all need somebody to lean on
Lean on me
When you're not strong
And I'll be your friend
I'll help you carry on
For it won't be long
Till I'm gonna need somebody to lean on
Ya just call on me brother
When you need a hand
We all need somebody to lean on
I just might have a problem that you'll understand
We all need somebody to lean on
If There is a load
You have to bare
That you can't carry
I'm right up the road
I'll share your load
If you just call me
Call me
If you need a friend
Call me
If you need a friend
If you ever need a friend
Call me
Call me

Beth Rowley is one of those artists flying under the radar of big studios and mainstream radio. It seems she is mostly doing live concerts and small download sales porjects, at least her first album is already 10 years old (I love it), and to my delgiht today I found that two years ago she released another one. She mostly writes her stuff herself. Great voice, quite independent, and an interesting mix of styles in her music.

WooHoo 15th Rocker's Day in Hong Kong.
https://www.behance.net/gallery/15173513/9th-Rockers-Day-2014-Hong-Kong
The above video has a beautiful song and excellent cinematography, a pity it's not on Youtube. No matter, the link works.
There's a very strong nostalgia in Hong Kong for the old days of British Rule, when it was a Proud Crown Colony. The nostalgia gets stronger every year, and out of this and the Classic Motorcycle Club, a retro Rocker culture has emerged - probably as a snub to the Mainlander Gov't now calling the shots.
Every year for the past 15 on the 3rd day of the Chinese New Year they get on their beautifully restored Classic British motorbikes ( Triumphs, BSAs, Vincents, Nortons, etc ) although there's a Honda or two etc also, and they go for a "Burn" and afterwards have a bit of a party. Brotherhood - nice.

I always liked Bad Company as well, Catfish. Paul Rodgers is largely considered one of the great vocalists of his time. Other Iconic vocalists in that list would be Steve Perry of Journey, Ann Wilson of Heart, Pat Benatar , Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin and Mickey Thomas of Jefferson Starship. I'm sure others could name great vocalists as well.
Another great, live performance with another great vocalist, Gary Brooker with an Iconic song, Whiter Shade Of Pale.

I'm always on the lookout for new and / or emerging musical talent. Blues music took a colossal hit when Stevie ray Vaughan was killed in a helicopter crash on August 27th, 1990. Blues music has never recovered from Stevie's loss although there are a great number of blues artists that have done their best to keep blues a viable music form. John Mayall, John Mayer, Kenny Wayne Shepard and Corey Stevens, just to name a few.
Christone " Kingfish " Ingram not only plays well but has a great voice, well suited to blues music as well. This is his rendition of B.B King's " Thrill is gone ."

Allman Brothers, live at the Filmore East is widely regarded as one of the very best live albums ever to be recorded. Stormy Monday was originally recorded by T-Bone Walker but this is an excellent rendition of this song. The guitar playing interplay between Duane Allman and Dickey Betts is great and something that few modern artists can even aspire to. In fact, the entire album is fantastic, showing you can play slow and with passion and still get your message across. Other live albums that are in the same category would include Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet band-live.
This live session was recorded over a 3 day span in New York in 1971. Sadly, guitarist and founding member Duane Allman was killed in a motorcycle crash a few weeks after this live album was recorded.

Most Cd burners have software incorporated into them to remove anomalies such as scratches from playing the record album too many times. :yep:
Unfortunately, the software does it's job too well and as a result, the software also removes subtle overtones that were mixed in by an engineer at the time of recording. The result is most of the music converted to a CD or memory stick format has a " sterile " sound to it. I still collect old vinyl albums Catfish. :)

Funassyi -the Pear Fairy. Mascot of the city of Funabashi.
Mascots are hugely popular in Japan and generate vast amounts of money for cities and businesses.
Funassyi ( according to his/hers? biography ) grew up in a tree with 274 brothers ( I love this stuff :) ), he decided to "branch" out and decided to go into show business.
Unlike other mascots who are voiceless, Funassyi speaks and is not shy with expressing an opinion. And has on occasion fought with rival mascots. He/she has also given amusing interviews to prestigious publications - The Wall Street Journal for instance.
Together with some other Rebel mascots, a band was formed - "Charamel" playing Metal music

The Empress Theodora. Supporter of the Blue political faction. A few Rock musicians have named their daughters after her.
She was libelled by Procopius and by extension Robert Graves. She had a strong character and strong appetites. She was an Empress, she didn't pussyfoot around.
At the Nika Rebellion her husband was hell bent on running away, but not her.
"I came up from nothing and if I can't continue to live as an Empress at least I'll die as one", and she lead out the Imperial Guard in what was seen as a suicide mission, and absolutely thrashed the rebels.
From then on her husband was very much the junior partner in Government.

I have seen Pink Floyd many, many times on video but sadly, never in person. Pink Floyd was before my time. I have also seen the iconic song" Comfortably Numb " played by Pink Floyd and specifically, by guitarist extraordinaire, David Gilmour. David is certainly one of the best guitarists to have ever played a guitar.
I think this is the best version of Comfortably Numb by David Gilmour among his many, many offerings. David's guitar work and articulation and phrasing in addition to his string / note bending and vibrato technique is incredible.

I had said that I never had the opportunity to see Pink Floyd in concert. I did however avail myself of the chance to see Brit Floyd on a number of occasions-live. It was a great show every time.
I guess Brit Floyd can be characterized as a Pink Floyd tribute band-albeit a most excellent one. Brit Floyd had / has first rate musicians such as lead guitarist / vocalist Damian Darlington and bassist / vocalist Ian Cattell . Gone is guitarist extraordinaire, Bobby Harrison and Drummer par excellence, Arran Ahmun.
If you are / were a Pink Floyd fan, this group and show really is the next best thing to seeing Pink Floyd-Live.
This video is an older one with guitarist Bobby Harrison starting at 3:17 and with drummer Arran Ahmun. Bobby is a bit of an enigma as he can play guitar either right or left handed. Incredible.

Sure he was a villain, but if you didn't get on his bad side he was a good musician, cook, and a jolly guy.
We had a couple of his sandwich joints down here in Sydney in the late '70s, and they made fantastic sub sandwiches and soups. Their decor was Chicago 1920s, honky tonk pianolas churning out "roaring 20s" music, subs named after crooked politicians and mobsters...."Big Bill Thompson", "Machine Gun Kelly", "Legs Diamond", "Frank Nitti", yep even good old Eliot Ness had his own designer sandwich.
They closed after a couple of years :( :( 'cause the franchise owners were wimps and were "run outta town" by the Colonel and the Clown.
If the real Mr Capone were in charge....he'd push right back at the opposition... there'd be offers impossible to refuse being made.

Nice pick:up:
Brought me some memories from few decades ago. I met Pete Walli,- the front man of this band-, in a local joint I used to spend my time. Sadly he died in 1995 at the age of 26 when he one night climbed up to the church tower and subsequently fell down to his death.
Some say he jumped and it was suicide, but was it? Only he knew it.
Anyways, we lost a good man and a capable musician too early.
RIP Pete

This is a fun, cool song from Cheap Trick. The original " Ain't that a shame " is of course from the great Fats Domino. Guitarist Rick Nielson is a bit of a goofball and has fun as he plays and doesn't take himself too seriously. Rick Nielson is also a great guitarist.

I found this piece entitled " Prayer for Peace " some time ago and it remains one of my very favorites. Neal Schon is the lead guitarist for Journey and played with Santana as well. In troubled times, I find this piece comforting and uplifting.
