As a result of the recent loss of The Music Thread and two excellent suggestions from forum members Aktungbby and Dowly for a suitable replacement I have proposed a compromise to Aktungbby regarding a thread title which also incorporates the suggestion for a new thread title from Dowly.
I have locked the Aktungbby thread so allowing him and Dowly to repost their music choices in this thread.
Should there be no complaints over the next day or so I will delete the locked thread and this thread will be the new home for music choices.
I've also stickied this thread to give it a chance to propagate.
Over to Aktungbby and Dowly.

Odd thing about this tune is. It appears as it does in this music video to be mostly associated with the military and explosions. Me, I always associated this particular tune with strippers. :yep:

Was not aware the music thread went away... :hmmm:
Been listening through the Red Hot Chili Peppers' discography lately. One of my all time favorites for sure.
Also, Jack White, Everlast and Weezer.
Discovered a new one, however. A friend of mine actually knows this band. He introduced me to their music and I'm loving it.

STEED, be sure to wear your specs
I have always enjoyed the lesser known, yet highly influential, artists who helped shape so much of modern music, particularly rock music. Wanda Jackson is one such artist. Over and over again, more well-known artists and superstars have cited Wanda as an influence. She has been around for over 50 years and still tours and records. Jack White of "White Stripes" fame has, in recent time, been a huge booster of Wanda Jackson and has produced and performed on Wanda's more recent recordings. She was often on the David Letterman talk show (Dave is a big fan) and showed that, even a half century on, she is still as fiery as ever...

Thanks for the post. I actually used to have a few of those posters shown in the video; The Fillmore and The Family Dog would plaster them all over town and give them away at some of the record stores; wish I had them now...
When I started high school, i enrolled in the stage crew as a means of having an excuse to ditch classes if there was a performance or assembly in the auditorium. There was this one kid who was very much into the whole psychedelic scene and he had a unique way of sussing out who was or wasn't 'cool'; he carried around psychedelic posters and the process I experienced was like this:
He walks into the room and surveys the class looking for cool people, spies me and my longish hair, walks over to me and, without a word, unrolls a poster for some concert with all the lettering done in the sort of LSD influenced style of the day. He points at a line on the poster:
Him: What does this line say?
Me: Moby Grape, Quicksilver Messenger Service.
Him: (now mildly impressed): And this other line?
Me: Civic Auditorium, Lights by Light Sound Dimension.
Him: I thought you might be cool...
He then extended his hand, and we became a team doing lights and sound for the school auditorium. The process was as good a litmus test as any...

Well, my girlfriend is suffering because of cancer since 13 years now.
I have been taken care of her 24 / 7 for more than two years now.
She went to hospital today once again. There is not much left to do for her now, despite of easing her pain.
We used to be aware of the consequences the cancer is going to have. We were trying to enjoy life as much and as long as possible.
I am the one to pull the plug in the nearest future now, nobody can prevent me from that. It's a matter of ethics, you know.
I am sitting here, there is nothing left I could do to save her from what is inevitable.

The recent passing of Bowie brought back to mind the rise of "Glitter Rock" in the 1970s. There was one US band who were pioneers not only in "Glitter" but, also, as an archetype for the punk bands that followed in the late 70s and early 80s. This band was cited by many UK punk bands as being an influence, along with the Ramones who formed in NY a year or two after this band debuted. I first became aware of this band in 1973 when they made their first Los Angeles appearance at the Whisky-a-Go-Go. I saw a longish line outside the club and, curious and bored, I got in line to see what the buzz was about. Remember, at the time the LA music scene has fallen into the sort of rock/country/folk mishmash of the type exemplified by Poco, America, Linda Ronstadt, et, al. Imagine the shocked look on the faces of the Whiskey's regular clientele when they got a load of this:

Probably one of the most influential bands of its time and way overlooked, The New York Dolls. The lead singer, David Johansen, later went on to some fame as his alter ego, singer Buster Poindexter, and had a modest acting career. The lead guitarist, Johnny Thunders, had a solo career and formed the band Heartbreakers; sadly, his battles with addiction lead to his death. So, for all of you who hated the punk bands or the "hair metal" bands of the 80s, here is the source of your ire. For those of us who got to see the Dolls live, we are thankful they woke up rock and roll and gave it a kick in the pants...

Yipes! no sooner mentioned...than gone! "Paul Kantner, Jefferson Airplane Founding Member, Dies at 74" http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/jefferson-airplane-s-founder-paul-kantner-dies-74-n506481 (http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/jefferson-airplane-s-founder-paul-kantner-dies-74-n506481) Their rendition of Darby Slick's Someone to Love was their first big hit with Kanter on lead guitar ...2016 is starting miserably....
Paul Kantner was the driving force behind the Airplane; it was at his insistence the band hired a female co-lead singer, first Signe Anderson (who left the Airplane to be a full-time mom), and then Grace Slick, who along with Kantner, defined the sound of the Airplane. Kantner was more of a quiet presence in the band, choosing to let Grace and Marty Balin, along with master guitarist Jorma Kaukonen and amazing bass player Jack Casady, take center stage in the spotlight. But it was Paul who called the shots, musically. He was a bit gruff and could be stubborn, but the music he and the Airplane produced was unique and influential.
The Airplane at the height of their power (Kantner is the guy in glasses plying the Rickenbacker 12-string):

The Airplane (minus Grace who had stopped singing some years before because she didn't think her voice was still strong) at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, 1996:

Notice that Paul is the only member of the band who chose not to wear a suit or formal attire; rock and roll will never die...

Chauffeur Blues (Live, Signe's Last) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88BBAbtSV8k (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88BBAbtSV8k) Signe Toly Anderson, original singer before Grace Slick of the Jefferson Airplane, died the same day as lead guitarist Paul Kantnor..."In a statement, Jefferson Airplane co-founder Marty Balin wrote, “One sweet Lady has passed on. I imagine that she and Paul woke up in heaven and said ‘Hey what are you doing here? Let’s start a band.’”
More sad news(sigh). R.I.P Signe Toly Anderson.

Very sad to hear about Signe Anderson; she may have been overshadowed by Grace Slick, but she set the foundation of the Airplane's sound. She also stayed in contact with the other Airplane members and was still highly regarded by her former band mates...
RIP, Signe...

It seems odd to have Rock and Country artists collaborating like this, but this is an awesome duet. It's so good they won "Album of the Year" back in 2009. I've found the dual record LP, but the CD is eluding me at the moment.

If you like that, look for a CMT program called Crossroads. The program features Country music and Rock and Roll artists who were fans of one another getting together for an evening. The Robert Plant and Allison Krauss pairing was on that show.
Another great one from that show was the pairing of Martina McBride with Rock vocalist Pat Benatar. Pat was big in the 80's and it doesn't seem she has lost anything in that intervening time . Ann Wilson and Pat Benatar defined what rock vocalists should be and showed vocals can be it's own musical instrument.
