The 4th July marks a sad anniversary for the older residents of my neighbourhood.

On that day in 1975, Juanita Nielsen "disappeared".

She was a tall, elegant, beautiful, wealthy and influential young woman who passionately loved this place - Kings Cross/Potts Point. She was a bitter enemy of the Developers who were bulldozing the place and destroying it's unique character.

She was lured to her death.

I remember Navy Week in '86 when the Missouri was in town ( Sydney ). There was HUGE fireworks one night, then 2 F 111s turned up, flew down the Harbour, turned around and came back, then hit the afterburners. The Roar and Rumble was "stomach hitting". All the Harbourside suburbs were lit up and a tremendous cheer from millions of people went up. :) :up:

I bought that "So Excited!" LP in 1983, and recorded the LP on cassette. I had just bought a Spitfire (the car :O:) in England, and wanted to drive from Goettingen to Stuttgart in july 1985 with a friend.

While having no problem before, the car would now run for 20 minutes, and then cough and stop. We checked ignition, carburettors, leaks, all well. After waiting for 20-30 minutes it would start and run perfectly.
Later found out that there was a heat shield missing, which was not installed in english versions since it never became that hot there :doh: Gas bubbles in the fuel pipe over the exhaust manifold..

We played the "So Excited!" album up and down for hours, and it will always remind me of this tour, and the car. Since it was around 700 kilometers it was an "exciting" tour indeed :03:

I sold my car last year when I moved back to Sydney. I miss it - 2004 Ford Falcon XR6 Mk1, beautiful car, but I'm getting old, have lots of dizzy spells, and a car is a definite liability in this city ( VERY car unfriendly City Council ) :yep:

Studio 54 was a bit out of my league. I don't mind Disco ( mostly ), it was always good on long drives.

Glad it made you feel nostalgic.

I heard that, too.. everywhere. The last Leyland-built 'Spitfire' type (1500) was awarded the "Silver Lemon" for worst building quality and reliability by the german ADAC :D. I absolutely disliked those boring german cars of the time, let alone the VW "Beetle" with its 1930ies "design", cheap valve whistling sound (like Porsche my a$$) and KdF history lol.

The Ford you mentioned looks nice with the sleek lines, a bit like the Rover 75.

We are living in a small village in the woods, so you have to be mobile here.. if we move to a city at some point we will probably also get rid of our cars.
The greens are on some crusade here as you may have heard :03:
