No wonder you didn't make it back to base, that aircraft is missing all of it's controls, ailerons and rudder...would be impossible to make turns. Actually strange kind of damage, all the controls only.

The controls arent totally busted, I managed to land a Heinkel bomber with more damage to the controls than on that pic. Needless to say that it was 90% of pure luck. ;)

If that video (which is good, by the way) is representitive of IL2, then I'm glad I've never played it, for two reasons.

1) There were no cannon-armed Spitfires in the Battle Of Britain. They hadn't solved the jamming problem with the hispano-suiza cannons and they didn't appear in service until the Spit II came along.

2) Spitfires were built with a multi-thickness spar running through most of the wing. It was impossible to have one wing come off, unless hit by some kind of rocket, or maybe a MK103 or MK108 30mm cannon, neither of which were operational that early. This was also a big error in the movie Battle Of Britain. Messershmitt Bf-109s on the other hand had modular bolt-on wings, and could lose one or the other.
You are Correct Steve,

the problem with IL2 is, that some planes are the latest models
you cannot choose a earlier version of it.
so yeah, ur stuck with the cannons
some planes have the Each year model. the BF109 has it as well the FW serie
and some russian models. the Spitfire and some american and finish etc etc do not have each Year model of the type.

the Theme in IL2 is the Eastern combat.
the German Vs Russian scene plays the main part of the total IL2 game . so they paid extra attention on them.

IL2 is one of the Best CFS out there.

Awesome pics guys. I've been looking for a good WW2 flier and was always skeptical about IL-2. Those that play it, can you give me some heads-up about it. I've had my eye on Forgotten Battles and was wondering if that would be the version to pick up as I'm most interested in air war over Europe. My skepticism lies in the length of time it's been since it was released...do a lot of people still play it as I would like to get involved with something online as well

Cool! Thanks for the input. I'm certainly in search of realism...it kinda removes the point of a warsim to seek otherwise imo. I'll have to check the going price of the IL-2 DVD you mentioned.

On the way to our target, P31's shot down all of our Fighter Squad that was our defence

we got the the location without Fighter support and got hunted down by 2 LA7 russian planes

I got shot down , couldnt bail out quik enought because the Pilot (Me) got wounded and didnt survive.

Hehe, yes, I was in TS last night and heard his whining while I was playing IL2. I couldnt stop laughing when I imagined that he´s voice is coming as a radio chatter from a nearby plane. :rotfl:

What comes to the composite shots, I think they are actually pretty easy to do. And you can get some very good looking shots out of it. I´m still very much practising them, but it´s quite easy when you get an hold of it. :up:

oh, and I do know that the plane might be a bit tricky sometimes....you know...happens that the engine just turns off mid-flight......no problem though! Just turn it on again and it will do very well!

oh and........at least TRY to land on the belly sometimes......:up:

Nad be careful with the J8! PLEASE! Those things are bloody expensive! I mean, we gave the finns 25 of them, and that was a third of our entire airforce!

Nah..the performance is bad because I spend to many planes.....

Same here. My only complaint was that you couldn't play the "tit-for-tat" period of 1941-1942. I would have love flying Spit IIs and Vs, and Bf-109f and Fw-190a models.

If you have only those 2 we could play online sometime.
I havent upgraded my version because on the IL2 website there are only the patches for FB/AEP/PF merged (meaning u have to have installed all 3)and as you I only have FB+AEP

my version is 2.0
so if you feel like one day we could play online sometime :up:

Its really easy, if you have the same version, you or I could host a game. you just need to know ur own IP adress so I could write that in under JOIN SERVER in the IL2 Multiplayer menu and voíla . you can live see my landing skills

I haven't patched my version of AEP but I'll check on the version. But my IL2 + FB + AEP are all merged, is that a problem?

BTW do you know the answer?....
Does anyone remember how to change the max resolution of the game and enable Perfect Settings?

well, I have FB+AEP merged, if you launch up the game you will see a version number in the left bottom, if its 2.0 it must be ok for us to get it online.

to the other question

Start-Progammes - Ubisoft and If i,m right there must be something about Config/Setup. (its a small icon with a hammer on it)
there you can change the graphics/resolution of the game.
you could either choose for setting optimized for your video card. or customize it.

From what I remember, there is a cfg hack to put your resolution upto something like 1600 x 1200, these options are not in the setup utility. The same is true for the perfect settings issue, again there is a cfg change which will allow you up your graphics settings.

Dowly might know. I can't imagine that with his GFX Card he's playing with standard settings.

IL2:1946 is standalone and contains IL2, Forgotten Battles, Aces Expansion, Pacific Fighters, Sturmoviks over Manchuria, Pe-2 and something else I cant remember. Anything that has been released as official expansions are in it.

Yes, that´s a good joystick, but I advice you to rip off the rubber thing on the base of the stick, it jammed my rudder from time to time. ;)

It might not be the safe way, but it's the fun way! I wouldn't try it with anything other than an SA2. What I really like to do is get over a SAM-rich area, flick the jammer off, wait to see where the missles launch from, turn jamming on, and go after the launchers.

That's how I live life: With one finger firmly on the "Reset mission" button... ;)

Actually, I screwed up, trying to take a Screenie flying that Rocket Plane, as once you get near the sound barrier it likes to nose dive, I'd managed to pull out of this near the ground and went to hit pause for a screen... and hit the power-down soft key amd shut the system off instead.. :damn: The ultimate crash. :doh:

P.S, I can't recall if this game (IL2:FB) has a native screen capture key or not?

I think the generic screen capture is Prt Scr, it copies one to you clipboard. Best to use something like Fraps.

Edit - Nope that's wrong, it puts it in your program directory, like SH3.

I am certainly hopeful for the release of Knights of the Sky. I've been playing First Eagles for some time now, sifting through fantastic mods that the FE community has created and such, but I must say that my overall disappointment lies with the company as well as the game's creators. I've been reading through Thirdwire's forums and they seem pretty content on leaving the game as a skeleton, although a patch was recently released to fix numerous issues, the AI still is one of the worst I've ever encountered. I still feel that FE has much potential, but I don't think the following is great enough to keep it afloat...or rather in the air:lol:

However, concerning Knights of the Sky...word has it that not much except skins and missions will be able to be added much in the same manner as IL2 1946, but correct me if I'm wrong on that. I am hopeful nonetheless.;)

Lots of :
- It was supposed tu use IL2 engine, but then they developed their own.
- They merged with another team developing a WWI sim.
- The guy developing FM is the same as Lock-On.
- Demo scheduled for summer, release for fall 2007.
- Recomended minimum should be PIV 3.0 and Ge6600GT.

1C is the publisher, Oleg Maddox is the father of IL2 and has his hands busy on the new WWII flight sim. Storm of War or something like that. ;)

I was the first to do this as my old UBI screen name, Yog_Shoggoth. I was inspired when I chased a zeke in a corsair and didn't pull up fast enough to clear the deck. I went through this hole and just lost my right wing. That ment the hole was real and not filled in. I tried it about 30 times in a buffalo before I decided that particular plane was too big and tried the Salamander. Got it my second attempt. Again, I hate the German Quick Mission tune, so I flew American.

Yeah , the mission we played we had to bomb a Airfield and it went well (the bombing ofcourse) I manage to drop the lot on a bunch of AA nests.

if you feel like we could do the mission tonight :yep: the flaks on the airfield are real killers :dead:

When I discovered that the gap between bombs really existed the first thing I thought of was putting a wingtip between 'em. I lost so many planes attempting that and never mannaged. :-?

I,m going to cut down on the search lights as they bloody blind you when you try to look throught the bombing sight, a bit less flak and to make it more challeging, underway we get intercepted by enemy fighters and our escorts will have to defend us

WATER:
You need to play in OpenGL mode to get the perfect landscape. Also, from the conf.ini, you can change the 'Water=' setting to either 0,1,2,3.

SCREENIES:
Had to reinstall WinXP, so I lost all the tracks I had recorded from our games. :shifty:

Oh and yes, we still play online. ;)

Ok, I used to play CFS3 and this thread has got my flying juices going. I'm happy to get IL2 but whilst reading the reviews on Amazon, I'm finding a few people complaining about the copy-protection.

What I'd like to know from you guys is will this be likely to be an issue like St#rforce?

I'd really like to get back into flight sims and I'm loving what I see from the screenshots, I just can't be doing with stupid, problematic protection.
