Did you get out of that one Dowly?
Is the stopped prop because your engine cut or is it a screenshot thing?

Yep, I survived. Had absolutely no control over the plane, elevators, ailerons, rudder, gears, engine, everything was busted. Only thing that worked was flaps, which helped to level the plane before the ground. Lost both my wings on the landing, but managed to get out. Luckily I did, because the plane caught on fire some minutes later and exploded. And if I'm not mistaken, the village that I bombed was on Russian side of the map, so I didnt even get captured. ;)
EDIT: Oh and as I watched the recorded track, I noticed the target was AT guns, not tanks as I first though. Just few hundred meters to the west. :damn:

More from Sulleys career. Still going with over 5 hours flying time! Whoohoo. Longest OFF career I've had so far.

right might be simple solution here ....(hopes) when installing OFF do you you install to the cfs3 directory or create another folder? Previously iv'e installed to cfs3 dir. and it has overwritten all my cfs3 files and created one OFF file, which doesnt sound correct to me.

you overwritten the CFS3 map with the OFF files?
thats no good,
the installment must be next to the CFS3 folder, if you red the manual do not change the directory path of the OFF install. so when you check the Microsoft game folder you will see 3 maps
Over flander field - CFS3 - scenery
so reinstall it , and do not change the path of directory

Oh hey, OFF fliers. I got a tip for ya:
If you want your wingmen to attack a target, press tab to mark one (target that is), then press "S" as in "Split" and AFTER that you press "A" as in "Attack". The closer your wingmen are to your plane, the bigger the chance they'll see the command. You use hand signs now.;)
You use hand signs now.;)
I think we SubSim Aviators are familiar with the one and only hand signal we ever need. :rotfl:

5 kills win
the last round we both had
4 kills and 9 deaths (mostly because of crashin the aircraft)
we went head to head and he managed to destroy my aircraft.
indeed the short 184 was fun, its a bit darn dificult to aim with the joystick, the AI was flying but at the end I had to take over as the aircraft had no controls left  tried to land but failed

What got you Kratos? Just started a new career in a Nieuport, so different to a Pup, a bit more of a handful but managed to bag what I think was an Albie after the Bosch launched a raid on my aerodrome. One of my wingmen brought it and me and the Albie were dogfighting at 25 feet, it's amazing how everything else just fades out except the ground, the crosshairs and the enemy, you become part of the aircraft, you know where everything is in relation to you.
Takes a special kind of sim to drag you in that much
Had a bash with the SE5, but brought it over a Bosch airfield after a direct flak strike in the cockpit :damn: Least, that's what I think it was, one moment I was flying, the next I was in pieces over the French landscape. :hmm:

Seems donations didn't cover bandwith not suprised a few 1000 downloads @ 2GB a pop LOOL, so something has to give I guess. The fact it is still available via the DVD swap in the forum is encouraging.
They didn't have it hosted on other 3rd party sites apart from the mirror which is polovski's anyway.
oh I don't know about fecked up - some people give stuff away completely - others are more cautious and like to maintain copyright - its a free world. P2 is still free anyway I see in sim-outhouse forum there's a thread you can ask for a DVD no problem. I guess if it was totally free and copyright free some other company could grab it and charge for it yikes.
There's some website that has all the free CFS3 mods on from sim-outhouse and others, and he hosts them there, makes no mention of the person who made it, then charges you to be a member to download these free mods.. now that isn't right !

Right, and here they fecked up. They kept it to themselves and had to pay the price, there's trillion alternative hosting methods FOR FREE. ;)
Just read this on their website - explains it more
AIMS of OBD:
So far we have given away Phase 1 and Phase 2 for free with an option to donate.
We released in phases in a bid to keep CFS3 alive and keep folks happy with something to play as we knew this was going to be a long haul (oh and what a haul it has been ;))
Donations have been very slim especially when viewed in the light of large numbers of downloads - moreover we have seen many posts with great comments from happy flight simmers- many people say it's the best flight simulator they ever played, not our words, and that was just Phase 2.
Effectively our donations campaign to keep the OFF website alive (a fully dedicated high bandwidth server) have run aground yet downloads continue.
Phase 3 has been extensively reworked and added to, from fabulous new AI, High res terrain textures, extensive additions to the campaign manager, over 2GB more of textures, and many many improvements as per the info page. It really is a whole new experience.
Now having seen Phase 3 up and running, we believe Phase 2 pales into insignificance compared to Phase 3.
Thus in order to continue to grow OFF and go forward we have abandoned the donationware option and are now on a payware footing.
Funds thus gathered will will help up purchase a new engine, fund the website/server, and further development and pay some expenses.
Voluntary Donationware simply does not work.
Right, and here they fecked up. They kept it to themselves and had to pay the price, there's trillion alternative hosting methods FOR FREE. ;)
yeah true, but all along they say they wanted copyright to remain with them, once you have it available in all sorts of ways you cannot control what happens or which version is out there I guess.

But what I don't get it unless they got the source code they can't do major stuff without hacking the game. Kind of like what has happened with DW.
I think it sucjs they charge for the mod. They are making money off of it. They could do diddly squat ifMS wanted to take their stuff as they have the rights to the sim.
yeah I guess we will see when it comes out, if it's brilliant I will pay whatever it takes :) cos I am a sim nut.

No, all within a few miles of Henderson. The top shot is just offshore a little west of Lunga Point. The 2d is one of the NW dispersal areas at Henderson.
3d is F4F just N of Mt Austen, last is a little west of there (sorta near the Galloping Horse)

Well I think I'll try it out!!
A quick very early WIP of my newest creation:
http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee274/Finnish_Ferret/P51Me262.jpg
There's an actual story behind the shot. On October 7th 1944, 2nd Lt. Urban Drew was just about to have a drink of Bourbon with his squadron mate, Billy Kemp after they both were grounded for doing victory roll over their squadron's airfield in the end of their last sortie when Squadron Commander came in to tell them they are going up again.
"Put the bottle away" he said, because we're going on a mission to Brux, Czechoslovakia. There are Me 262s operating in the area, and you know more about them than anybody in this squadron. So, you're leading the mission."
During the mission, they flew over the German airfield at Achmer and spotted two Me262s lined up, ready to take off. Drew dived immediatly after the 262s, managing to critically hit the 2nd 262, causing it to explode in the runway. The 1st one tried to climb away and was an easy prey for the Urban Drew's 'Detroit Miss'.

That IS a Spit I. FM, 8x.303, everything. Damn hard to take down a he111. It's an entirely new plane, BTW. It doesn't hack an existing plane's FM, it has it's own. It is a Spitfire Mk I, new plane slot.
And even vs AI I was having a great deal of trouble with bf-109e4s. The vet and ace skilled ones were impossible to catch. Having alt on them is critical. Make me understand why their doctrine worked so well (central control vectoring them to superior alt, etc). SpitV vs 109s is a total walk in the park by comparison (I can usually take on many ace AI, and it's only a matter of how many I kill, not IF I kill like with this bird).
Can't wait for 109E1s so I have a chance vs them.

Few shots from our 1st sortie on Warclouds last night with Hunter. The track became corrupted in the middle of the 2nd sortie, so you wont see Hunter's one wheeled landing, our daring raid to the enemy airfield (nothing beats strafing an landing spitfire ) nor our sortie with 190s in which I think we both bagged ourselves something.
Anyways, here's the 1st sortie. Both flying 110s, target defending duty in Q11.

Aye, nothing beats strafing a Spitfire,
but mate we flew 190's ;) and we both bagged a enemy aircraft on that sortie.
about corrupting IL2 tracks, dont you think it might be the lenght of the tracks? that if you record for too long it gets easily corrupted...you might wanna cut the tracks in lets say ''per sortie''
also..whats up with the skins? I was flying that blueish skin of yours as well

Nope, dont think so. I've recorded longer tracks than that (we usually play almost 2hrs when dogfighting ;)). It's the public servers and IL2 that are to blame. slightest lag in game can mess up the data IL2 records to be played later on.
also..whats up with the skins? I was flying that blueish skin of yours as well
HunterICX
As the skin D/L on the server was off, I cant see your skin even in the tracks. IL2 doesnt record the skin data for track if the skin D/L is off. Well, for anyone else, I can see my skin always.

Still struggling to get Adobe Premiere to use the alpha channel. The codec, Indeo, supports alpha channels but AP doesnt use it. :nope:

Dogfight over Ypres, November 1917.
On November 14th, 1917, 2nd. LT. James Plainview engaged two German aircraft at about 2000 ft. altitude, just above Ypres. He managed to shoot down one of them, the second one was credited to a Sopwith Camel pilot who saw the opportunity while Plainview in his Sopwith Pup was busy with the first one.

Pleeease, next time, dont quote all them pics, unneccessary load to the thread.
And as for the swastikas, yes those are painted to the skin, BUT you can get them to show up for the stock markings by using a program called IL2Stab:

Another 2 good sorties last night with JG53, just forgot to record track from the first sortie. :damn:
Anyways, the 2nd sortie on 27th of October 1942 was a task of JG53 escorting a captured Russian Yak-9 fighter, flown by Gefreiter Morts from our home base to a more safe, rear airfield for study and test flights.
We had 8 escorts + the Yak-9 on our flight. We made contact with the rather large force of 11-14 Russian fighters somewhere around midtrip to the rear field. The losses for us were extraordinary high, with 4 BF109s wrecked from which 3 resulted in a KIA (2 109s were lost in an midair collision during the dogfight).
We downed all of the intercepting fighters and despite our heavy losses, managed to escort the captured Yak-9 to our target, where it was slightly damaged on a failed landing.

Does your AI squad in Over Flanders Fields score lots of kills? Or do they rarely shoot down other pilots?
If Franz von Hohn and James Plainview had a dogfight, who would win? :hmm:

1: Does your AI squad in Over Flanders Fields score lots of kills? Or do they rarely shoot down other pilots?
A: They do on the scoreboard which is in the campaign menu, but I dont think the have the same scoring system as you have when they score a kill in the game I can be wrong ofcourse as I havent really kept an eye on it. also In game Phase2 I have the impresion that the friendly AI is rather dull, they seem to improved it a lot in Phase 3 (Payware thought) so the AI is more active then they are in Phase 2
check out the Phase 3 Trailer here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=132553 (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=132553)
2: If Franz von Hohn and James Plainview had a dogfight, who would win?
A: one of them for sure, but I think the outcome would be random.
3:Is that German gunner in the two-seater wearing a watch cap?
A: havent flewn in a German 2 seater so cant answer that one.

1. They do score some kills. But they're not very good at the flying part though...during dogfights on low altitude, they have a tendency to hug the ground, with no real reason...
2. James Plainview, if he flew his Sopwith Camel. The Camel can out maneuver any Albatros with it's incredibly sharp right turn (really lads, that right turn of the Camel has saved my butt a whole bunch of times).
3. He was referring to one of my earlier pictures Hunter (I guess...) I really don't know, I do know that he managed to get some hits on my Pup, but nothing near as fatal as I usually get...
Oh, and here is James Plainview, shooting down a Fokker DV.II, arguably the best plane of the war. Since these buggers started to show up around Douai, things have turned pretty nasty for the lads of RFC-46.

2. James Plainview, if he flew his Sopwith Camel. The Camel can out maneuver any Albatros with it's incredibly sharp right turn (really lads, that right turn of the Camel has saved my butt a whole bunch of times).
I beg to differ.:)
Von Hohn's D.II might not surpass the Camel, but the Camel is much less stable than the D.II in extreme moves. Plus, if it was a scrap between us two player pilots and four AI pilots, you guys would definitely lose. Jasta 2 is one of the most elite squadrons in the game, and it is VERY hard to get into (I didn't sign up when creating a character to it, either. Started out with Jasta 34.). And we HAD Boelcke, Bohme, and Manfred von Richthofen.
Plus, I always change to the D.III when I get the chance. A D.III v. a Camel... that would be... interesting to say the least... we should totally duel come a good day.

Can you be transferred in a campaign between two squadrons in OFF? I know that the airfield changes sometimes, but can you actually be put in another squadron?

Your squadron can be moved to different places, but I've never been able to request a transfer, so I just edit game files.

That was one feature I liked in Red Barron 3D. When you reached the rank of Captain, you could start requesting transfers and I think that was the rank that allowed you to paint your aircraft.

Hi guys. Great pics here  , had no idea this part of the forum existed (not that it's especially hard to find  ). ... What flight sims are pictured here? I don't know anything about them at all. I know the name IL2, I think it is, but that's about it.

Well the ones from me (WWI era) is from a mod called "Over Flanders Fields". The mod is based on the CFS3 engine. It used to be freeware, but they've taken it away now I hear, because phase 3 of the mod is payware, and the earlier versions of the mod is no longer on their website.
I find that very disturbing and annoying...:nope:
And most of the rest of the pics from WWII are from IL2 1946, the full complete pack of everything officially released to IL2. You can get it very cheap, 15-20€.

Looking at your speed and your altitude, I'd expect you would hit the ground very, very hard.
just curious, did the Japanese have parachutes? I'm not sure but I don't think they did. Does the Sim let you bail out with or without one?
You always have a chute when you bail out. Tho, since Pacific Fighters, you've been able to make so that the AI wont bail out. This was made so you can make the Japanese do Kamikaze strikes.

An interesting aspect with CFS2 and BoBII is that the chute may or may not work. So even if you get out of the plane, it doesn't mean that you'll live through the day.
You sure about BoBII? I usually end up bailing out on every sortie and it always has worked. ;)

well, I finally got the IL2 1946 (thanks to the comments and pics here) and have been flying it for about a month now.
Speaking of the parachutes, I was actually shooting at a bomber when suddenly crewmen started bailing out. While I was still shooting, I accidentally ;) shot a parachute and it collapsed :o . I can't remember the other Sim I used to fly where this could happen but I remember it was the 1st Sim to allow it because I remember all the Sim message boards I was on talking about it being right or wrong or whether it was ever really done in war. Turns out, it was done but only by very few in real life.

Yep, I'm sure. Sometimes (not often, but it happens) I bail out, press the button to release the chute and then:

I had a look at OFF's website. ... shouldn't have :D, I could easily get hooked into that. Guess they see $$ for phase 3, at $50 bucks a crack that's just about major game retail pricing. Mind you, it does look darn good (great promo video btw), but there are still a lot of complete retooling mods that are freeware.
edit/add: sorry btw, didn't mean to take this thread OT.

Not that I don't like IL2 1946 because I do like it, but when do missions change? I am still flying my 1st career and after 10 missions, I am still at Owens Stanley Range with incoming Bombers from the same 3 directions. So far the only difference I've seen is 1 mission took place at night and I sure hope I never get to do that again:o

GSpector:
get DCG (a 3th Party Campaign Generator) it works somewhat similar like SH3 commander so to speak as you can adjust the campaign settings a bit (amount of aircraft, ground activity etc etc)
the DCG Campaigns itself has more Variaty , more activity in the air.
also things like when you destroy a bridge in the last mission, that bridge is still destroyed in the next mission, and more stuff like that.
get it here: http://www.lowengrin.com/news.php (http://www.lowengrin.com/news.php)
read the instructions to know how it works.

I will try it and hopefully it helps with randomizing mission events so I don't keep thinking I flying this Sim in some "Groundhog Day" type of event where everyday is the same as the day before.
As for the bridges, on a few missions, I decided to load of with a 500lbs bomb and tried to fly to to the base where all the aircraft were returning to. In the way there, I destroyed a bridge. Checked out that same bridge on a few missions after that and it was still damaged.
The IL2 has dynamic campaigns as stock, so the bridges remain destroyed. But what the stock campaigns dont do is track supply convoys etc. for example, if the enemy's AT guns are destroyed, on the next mission either an supply plane or a car column will be sent to repair the guns. If they get there, the guns get repaired, if not, they remain destroyed and that sector has no defences against an attack from the ground forces = the enemy loses that area and the front line will be moved forwards.
As for the missions DCG gives you, they arent that random. Depending of your role, it's usually patrolling or air superiority missions. But what keeps me using DCG is that there can be over 100+ planes in the air at the same time, resulting in huge clashes with fighters and if the massed bombers setting is on, you see very large bomber formations.
Hunter showing his marksman skills on the last sortie we flew tonight. ;)

Anyone feeling suicidal? Then report in to our current online campaign!
Mareth Line 1943, 50 planes per side, AI on veteran, high realism settings. Plenty of planes to fly, Hurricanes, Spits, Mossies, P38s, P39s, P40s, 109s, 190s, 110s, Heinkells, Junkers and Stukas.
And as for our sorties tonight, I think we flew 5-6 and survived none. :)
Damn!!! I totally lost track of time tonight  got sidetracked and forgot to check-in to T.S. Must have been an elderly moment  ''puts a stickynote on side of monitor'' ;)

*sigh*
Another day and another sortie over the Mareth Line. Gefreiter Dowly returning from the worst mission to-date. Whole of the formation of 16 Heinkels and 6 escorting BF109s lost. The 109 in the pic is missing it's rudder and has both of it's wings holed badly. But despite the damage, the plane was able to hold out for one more attack, resulting in a downing of an American P40.
Dang, this one was a massacre! Everything went wrong! I saw 4 Heinkels explode in collisions with eachother as the other was damaged and steered away from the formation hitting the next in line. The rest were butchered by the Spitfires. As for us escorts, we were way lower than the attacking enemy to begin with, easy pickings for the Hurricanes and P40s. But dang, I say it again, if you dont have DCG, get it now! Brings the IL2 world alive, better yet if you can handle the maximum amount of planes in the air. For example, as I was returning, flying low to not draw any attention, I saw a battle the same size from where I just came from taking place ahead of me. Smoke, fire and tracers everywhere. Needless to say, I changed my heading pretttty quickly. :p

as for my problem I asked about earlier, I think I found out what's causing it. my virus checker. I think the problem is the 2 programs talking to each other is raising Red Flags with my virus Checker. I'll test it out later.
As for Keira, She's not so bad looking. I'd be happy to fly with her pic too ;)
