The terrain looks pretty basic, but the KA-50 is so wonderfully detailed that you don't even notice.

I mean, I look at the shots and think "it looks gorgeous". Then I look at the terrain and it's actually a little disappointing.

...

No, I don't know why I bothered saying that either. :hmm2:

Great shots. :yeah:

Yes, you should see a lastmission track there too, which is the last SP mission you've played, tho, as you're the host it might be worth checking that one too just incase it recors over that. :hmmm:

The track names for me are like this: client-20100527-003007.miz.trk

Yeah, they'll get you eventually. I was referring to the fact you can easily out-range them with the cannon, but if you hover above several, you're gonna come down. Have a look at my previous screens, numbers 2 and 3 from the bottom. Notice the number of holes and the fact you're still flying. :D

Once you download the map and if you want to check the scenery out, you could add 2 quick missions in. Only 1 mission per side, and the type of mission will be "None". (Instead of Strike, Scramble, etc)

But, you'll have to scour the internet to find them, lol

If you want to, I can make you some instruction movie.

Can do, I'll take anything. I've had a couple of practices, I aim at the point nearest me on the runway on approach, until I'm about...oh...twenty meters from touchdown where I pull back on the stick until my gunsight is on the other end of the runway and then up a bit more, cut the throttle and let her drop down.

That's the one problem I have with nose up landings, if I flare too early I stall and go into the ground, if I flare too late then I wind up climbing again and overshooting the runway. :damn:

Don't you worry young lady. As a matter of fact this forum is not only graced with the presence of the greatest artist ever but also with the most awesome flight instructor ever (Both would be me of course, and don't listen to what Raptor says, he doesn't understand anything about art.:nope:).

The best thing for a rookie is to establish a certain landing pattern. This will guarantee that you will find yourself always in the same position when you are on final approach. In real life it looks about like this:

http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/54/1012554/6236346539653637.jpg
Once you get a bit better with landings you can forget about that pattern and go in directly for the landing (none of us is using a pattern). But for now it's pretty useful.
For your final approach:
http://foto.arcor-online.net/palb/alben/54/1012554/6463393437373736.jpg
You can come in with a bit of overspeed (not more than 230 km/h though...for now:D) when you are directly over the runway. They are fairly long so you have time to slow down enough for a nice landing. Try to fly horizontally over the runway at about 0.5 to 1m altitude (takes some practice) at very low or zero throttle. Once the plane wants to settle down (the slower you fly the less lift your wings produce) you pull the nose slightly up (increasing the angle of attack which increases the lift, but also the drag). However it's important that you only raise your nose so far that you don't start climbing again. If you start climbing beyond 3m or so it's best to throttle up a little or to give full throttle and go around. If you don't do this you will find yourself at 3m altitude with quickly decreasing speed and that will make you slam down a second or two later.:dead:
So make sure you don't climb and the plane will set itself nicely down on all three wheels.
Or if you don't want to do that yet you can also settle for a two wheels landing (which is easier). Just fly horizontally in ca. 1m over the runway at around 180-200km/h. Reduce the throttle and keep the nose horizontally. With decreasing speed your plane will start to drop and set down on its main wheels.
Hope that helps a little.:D

Arclight
06-30-10, 10:37 AM
Just take plenty of distance to line up. But yeah, definetly not the most light or nimble plane around.

Maybe practice coordinated turns with the rudder (stepping on the ball), to a point where you use the rudder intuitively. Definetly something you want to use during take-off and landings to keep the aircraft lined up.

*hmm yeah, and what the "greatest artist ever" said.

The Me has no torque or prop-wash that would throw it off of it's heading (it's a rocket not a piston engine).;)
It will only very slightly move to the right on take off.
You probably wanted to counter-steer prop-wash when there wasn't any.

(Don't worry, I made that mistake in real life when I couldn't keep my glider straight and always tried to correct my heading with the rudder until my instructor asked me what I was actually trying to do. I then replied that I was trying really hard to keep the nose pointing at my desired direction. "Well, just take your feet off the rudder pedals for a moment" was his reply....the moment I got out of the pedals that damn glider was flying straight....:damn:. All the strange movements it did before were caused by me and when I tried to correct them it just became worse.:damn:)

4.0 is required, unfortunately quite big but pretty worth it compared to the old stock or AAA's Unified Installer.

I think half the people who installed HSFX after the latest version came out confused 4.11 with the hotfix. It goes like so: 4.0 -> 4.1 -> 4.11 -> Hotfix.

Don't think I'll be able to fly with y'all tonight anyway, 4.0 is still running its torrent and I'm yet to get the map thing, and the 4.11 and hotfix. Didn't really notice that one aileron was missing until I saw the screenshots. :o

I first thought that due to the injuries my pilot sustained that, that was the cause for the very sluggish controls.

And the enemy plane kept shooting at me as I tried to get away, finally I had to land as quickly as possible due to some engine damage.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v425/Kaos2/DutchIL2cheese.png
Yes, fear the cheese. We Cheesies are taking over :stare:

And because I see several mentions of Iced Teas and how much Oberon dislikes them. So for my amusement and boredom (ah how boredom brings me interesting yet silly ideas), I created a skin with the Lipton Iced Tea bottles for logos. Originally it was meant to go on the sides of the body but it failed so I put it on the wings after a brilliant idea.

I don't know, I was in a losing end of a dogfight. I'm new to Rise of Flight, I think the game records sessions so I have to look what caused the deformation.

Or could it be due to bullets impacting at a very shallow angle? :hmmm:

Why not? If the bullets hit some of the wooden parts that make up the wing, it could heavily deform the wing without necessarily breaking it.

Not sure if one of them could survive it, though.

Bullets eakening that part of the wood making it more prone to damage from high speed flights maybe? Remember, diving too deep with one of these babies and you can wave that wing goodbye!

I think that structural damage of that magnitude would lead to the wings breaking off in normal flight. As you can see the damage is spread over the entire upper and lower wing. There shouldn't be much stability left in them.
But well, it's just a game and the damage model seems to be pretty good nonetheless.

Raptor1

That's what I said. Bullets could probably do that sort of damage, whether the plane could survive it is another matter.

Ok...so, the Spitfire was supposed to be more forgiving than the 109...right?

So, why is it when I stall in a 109 it's a much easier to deal with experience than in a Spitfire.
Take the following example:

http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/1778/15072010232635.jpg

I am on the verge of stalling (slats open, wing vortices on) but she continues to climb quite comfortably and only when I started knocking on 8000m did she start to dip a wing.
If I had tried this in a Spitfire I would have stalled and wound up in a flat spin before you could say "any idiot could fly a Spitfire". :nope:

Yeah, thinking too much is not something you want to do in the circumstances, so whatever you can do to take your mind off things the better.

I drove a little J-15 from Marks Tey to Sudbury earlier and then came unstuck when I found there was no way to reverse around the train at Sudbury :damn: But it was relaxing and my mind was focusing on the road ahead and not the gap behind.

I can imagine; aproaching Dutch coast at 6000ft, I got violent crosswinds. Suddenly had the nose pointing 10 degrees in another direction, or forced up resulting in an unwanted climb. Flew through thunder and lightning over Leeuwarden. Couldn't see the runway untill I broke the low-hanging rainclouds, around 2000ft I think.

Control cleared me to land; "are you kidding?! I can't even see the airport!"

Yup, it certainly is. I'm really glad feelthere put in the effort into making this one pretty as well as functional. Great little plane - I own their (older) 737 as well, but even despite my affinity for the 737, I find myself playing the ERJ more and more. It's pretty, retentively modeled, and well... it's a more hands-on plane. No autothrottle! In something like the 737 you just hit the VNAV button and it does most of the work for you. Here you really gotta work the throttles, and that really does make it a fun ride, especially on approach. :DL
Still a really "smart" plane though.

Haha, I know that feeling. For me my FS9 setup is a labour of love... and frustration. Forget the money I spent on add-ons - that's not nearly as painful as the many hours, days, even weeks spent getting it tuned and running as I like it. :damn:

Ah, the feelthere ERJ-145. I've had lots of flights in FS9 with that plane.
Haven't flown it much in FSX.

Have you flown the Wilco E-Jets? ( Embraer 170/190 )
I've been thinking of perhaps getting it some day.

Doing a series of flights at the moment in a Mooney that started in Iceland, I'm in Tanger, Morocco at the moment, final destination is Cape Town, South Africa.

Edit: Had to redo the flight to Tanger, seems I had accidentaly removed the log of that flight.

Edit2: After completing the Almeria to Tanger flight a second time, it wasn't logged in the log book... It had become corrupted, it is now fixed and I have to fly the route a third time. :damn:

Well, it's not that huge task for me as I use just the stock version. But I know what you mean, when I play Oblivion, it first takes whole day to download all the mods I want and maybe a week the playing is 15 minutes in-game, 45 minutes checking out smaller mods that might come in handy. :DL

Not yet! Maybe next month, these things are a bit expensive :)

From what I understand the E-Jets are fairly similar to the ERJ, except with full VNAV capabilities and a few other extras. I do love the planes themselves, I think out of all the airliners I've been on in real life so far I'd enjoyed my ride on the E-170 the most so far. I think the feelthere E-Jets and v2.0 of the ERJ were released around the same time, so it's probably pretty close in terms of look and feel.

CptSimFreak: is that the Eindecker? Did they already release that? :o

I've been watching RoF from the side, I think I will be picking up the Iron Cross edition of it eventually. Great looks, and I hear the features came along nicely.

If you have to land a fighter somewhere in the nature you should do a belly landing. Even if you manage to set the plane down nicely on the wheels, the bumpy ground is very likely to flip you over sooner or later.
