Nope! Fin joins Raptor in the gulag. Borsche for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

The only two survivors from the second mission, Hunter in his Ju88 and me in my 109.
http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/5417/thetwosurvivorsgf7.jpg
In the third mission, Oberon, Raptor and Hunter took to a convoy with Ju88s, with Fin covering in a 109. The Hurricanes over the convoy were dispatched by Fin, and Raptor nailed a trawler. Meanwhile, Hunter spotted a DD throwing up flak and decided to do something about it. At the time he thought he'd missed but it turns out that he'd nailed it. Which explains the extra points at the end.

Get at a high altitude 2000m sounds good, and do a dive right at it.

You don't get the big guns until '43 when you get the 20mm cannons.

The F-2 has an aweful 15mm version of the very popular MG 151 firing through the prop hub, giving it marginally more firepower than say, a P.11, as opposed to that, the F-4 has the proper 20mm MG 151 which gives it enough firepower to take on pretty much anything except heavy bombers (And IL-2s, unless you know where to aim)
The later versions of the Gustav and Kurfurst have the even bigger MK 108 30mm cannons, which can demolish pretty much anything in a couple of shots

In real life IL2s were practically impossible to take down with fire from pure 6 o'clock. Finnish pilots always attacked them from a slight angle: above -> pilot and engine, both sides -> wingroots(thinner armor and fuel tanks), below -> engine and radiator. Afaik wingroots and radiator were preferred as targets.
Ingame they go down a bit easier. My favourite is the wingroots from above, since that way you usually take the whole wing off. Works even with "teh porked" .50 cals. The engine is also pretty vulnerable to .50 cal fire from above.
IL-2's are actually quite easy to take down
their rear gunners dont always shoot at you, and if you're comming up from below it just hit the engine (simple for some) but if you're lucky, 2/3x20mm in the wing root can actually tear of the wing
Kptlt. Neuerburg
10-20-08, 12:14 PM
The IL-2s are easy to shoot down. I currently fly the Bf 109-G6. I know I have the option of using the 20mm cannon but I don't. I stead I use five MG151/20s. There are three in the nose and two in gunpods, I've shot down alot of IL-2s this way.
What a lucky sob! :nope: I peppered this poor twit from point-blank range with my MG's & the 37mm cannon you can mount to the 110, from one wing tip to another, TWICE! The fecka turns into a ball of flame, dives and just barely get's his nose up just enough to hit the hill slope! :damn:

The frontlines in Italy are collapsing! American tanks managed to break throguh and advance towards this german airfield. The squadrons based there barely made it, two of the last 109s got shot down by gunfire.

I think it's such a shame that IL-2 doesn't have the Mk1 Spitfire. I think they're more interesting in their early stages.

If you go to the "Dark Side" and have mods there is a Spitfire Mk1 available and it IS damn good and well balanced too!

Ok. I gotta ask. Whats this "dark side"? Im hurting for a good flight sim. I have IL2 46, and got FSX, but Im getting bored of IL2, and I can only take off from home and fly for 5 hours so many times in a row.

The 'Dark side' everyone is talking about is the mods. The mods are made available by the community by hacking the IL2's .exe, that's why the discussion is sightly restricted here at SubSim. You can find the mod discussion thread from here (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=140435). Just dont post any links to mods or modding sites, and you're fine. :)

Hi
Today I did some more Black Shark Ka-50 flying. I have started to dig in to flying in simulator mode and with simulator avionics. Yes, it's a bit daunting doing both the flying and the shooting... :-?
Anyway, after fiddling on the runway with all the buttons and doing a less than stellar take off (somehow I yawed and banked away to the left a bit to violent and almost slashed the ground with my rotors...), I approached the targets for today. Four Abrams tanks that where put as sitting ducks on the road. No shooting back or moving around allowed today, I'm a learner.
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a126/Porphyr/ScreenShot_000.jpg
After struggling a bit more to get in position and engaging the auto hover, it's time to try out the toys hanging of the stub wings. Success! I managed to hit all targets. Close up look in the Shkval monitor.
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a126/Porphyr/ScreenShot_001.jpg
You might see a very small dot between the smoke. Thats the Shark.
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a126/Porphyr/ScreenShot_004-1.jpg
Then I played a bit with the cannon as well. :)
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a126/Porphyr/ScreenShot_006.jpg
Later I did some playing around with the editor, and went for a early morning/ late night and foggy flight. Very scary and did not end well.

Ah, well, a CVE's flank speed isn't all that spectacular anyway
Starting to get the hang of flying the Shark. Got a bit too ambitious today though. After taking out some armour I decided to move closer. Got a nice hover position.

Things turned out ugly. Blood splatters in cockpit and I'm going down... no control. Pilot was obviously dead or unconscious as the outside view was the only one available.
The Shark start to move out of control and crashes... another day at work with the Black Shark sim. :)

You do have to get kills that amount to more than 100 to get anything higher than a knights cross. I managed to get the knights cross with swords, oak leaves, and diamonds in mid '43 while attempting to beat the record set by Erich Hartmann.

Thanks Dowly,
on average our missions draw in between 8 and 16 pilots now, and above all we are getting a lot more people making it back to base due to the efforts of our training officers. A lot of changes have come into effect over the past month or so and they are all having a really positive effect on the group!

You can change the water detail from the conf.ini, under the OpenGL settings, there's an Water= line, the highest is 4, which gives you the best looking water.

Myself and Nagy have been having a few mess-arounds, he hasn't got a joystick yet, but is getting pretty good with the keyboard.

Our mission was to sink that destroyer in the center of my crosshairs there, not even the Fascist-Blower 5000 would dent it, so we tried torpedoes, two torpedoes from a He-111 didn't sink it, so I switched to a B-17 to level bomb the sod, and whilst on the way there, Nagy manages to sink it with some well placed torpedoes :D

Some shots from the dedicated bomber squad's practice and live server runs. All pilots are human. I usually fly Blue lead. (To the right of, and above lead element).
