I do like this little note in the beta release notes:

Told AI pilots not to commit ritual suicide when their leader crash-lands;

Least there's some humour in there.

It now doesn't get past the little aircraft in gunsights loading screen... :damn:

Validate the files, clear the CloD cache and apply patch. Also, if you have any
custom .dll's in the CloD folder remove them too.

Validate files - done
Cache cleared - done
Custom.dlls removed - None there that I could see
Extracted files to seperate folder and then copied across to CloD folder - done
Start in window mode - done

Result... FAIL :(

Most likely problem is you are using DirectX9 not DirectX10. In conf.ini under the [Window] section there is a value to change. It must read Render=D3D10_0 or else you'll get the crash before even getting to the Ubi video intro.

It might help to make sure you update your DirectX to 11 and make sure you have the latest video drivers for your card.

For me the Patch did great :yeah:
No crashes, played for about 2 hours non stop
Performance is good, no freezes and FPS stays good buzzing enemy bombers in a formation.

Shot down a Do-17 but do my poor management of my Spit I had to get a cold shower too :D

Great Success...

For me, the patch performance is...mixed. I think I'll need to dial back some of the graphics options because particles are a killer. When I nosed over at Hawkinge on RTB I fired the MGs into the ground and the dirt kicked up put my framerate riiiight down.

Herr-Berbunch

Managed to get past the 20 minute mark, but then chased some wellingtons over to France and spun, irrecoverably, after my third pass. With the Channel filling my view I jettisoned the canopy, nearly recovered and then lost it again, bailed. As I slowly drifted downward I suddenly heard a noise and another 109 shot past, then I heard him coming again.

Here he is, I like to think he noted my position and sent for help -

http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/6808/launcher201205110035139.jpg

I've a few issues still, I can still see a faint horizon through the front panel. Nose above the horizon I get no prop blur, but below I do. And undercarriage when t/o from the aerodrome to the East of Calais is like jelly, it veers to the left, left wing down all the way down the runway (or nearly on the runway) and if I'm lucky enough to make it off the ground for the first few feet it still makes the same noise as along the ground. :hmmm: Still, it's only a beta-beta patch

The only problem I seem to have is with my "Saitek ST290 Pro" Joystick. When I fire the Machine guns, a few times I have to pull the trigger a few times just to get them to stop firing.

I may just need to take it apart and clean it out. which for me is great news. I just love having a reason to take things apart :D

Well that's one of the things that happens when you bring her in just a little bit hot. I think I was still at 120 IAS when my wheels touched for the first time. She bounced hard three times before the UC gave out, and I just skidded down the runway. Just before I came to a complete-ish stop she nosed forward, and that was the end of my flight. Still a lot of fun.

Ok, running out of room in my current imageshack account so I've joined all these into one.

1. Approaching Oberon, haven't alerted him to my presence yet...
2. Think he may have seen me, or at least heard me shouting, 'Hellooo!' as I shot by.
3. Aside from Oberon, and about three 109s over Calais, the only other aircraft I saw in the air in about an hour and a half flying was a Spit on my tail - couldn't out manoeuvre, couldn't out run, eventually shot to buggery but then he broke off even though I was straight and level heading home. Anyhoo, had to ditch just off the coast.

It looks more like the Saratoga. Note the end of an R and an A just forward of the Hellcat's port wing root.. She always had SARA painted on her after flightdeck to identify her. The Lexington had LEX. Other carriers I believe just had their registry number fore and aft.

Saratoga (CV-3), a very good ship indeed. Awards 7 Battle Stars during WW2 and survived (barely), kamakazi hits.

Why is the forum pushing them up in size, then? They reach from one side of my 1680-screen to the other - but not the pics by others, only mine. The zoom-frame around them does not work when the link got posted and the pics appeared.

Experimental: Is this image - the same - sharper? The others I have box-ticked to 1280 at Imageshack, this one I ticked weith 1650.

No. changing the browser'S zoom changes EVERYTHING, not just the pics.

The earlier pics that I ticked as 1280 at Imageshack, and that on my screen appear as slightly blurry (blown up) 1680 image - how big appear they on your screens, guys?

The lateats pic I posted for experimental purposes, seems to have a soize of - estimate 2200 or even much more. At Imageshack I ticked "keep size" when uploading it - the size of the originals is all 1650. (my screen size).

IMHO, $29.99 would've been a more appropriate price tag simply because P-51
doesn't have much to do when it comes to combat in DCS.

But, it's very nice to fly. Handles nicely, not too twitchy or too heavy, just right.

I can fix Task Forces problem, like I fixed Raptor :yeah:

I would probably have survived the first round with the Manpads IF my egress hadn't taken me over a group of very angry Russians with rifles. Still, I hope I at least wounded one of the Manpads, when they missed me the first time I strafed where the trail came from with my GAU. :yep:

By the way, TF, did your graphics card reinstall fix the freeze ups? I found I managed to reduce the frequency by lowering the graphics settings a bit.

It's another beautiful model by DCS, just at the moment it handles for me like a kids helium-filled balloon in a wind tunnel. It's like I'm rolling the stick around in a circle, which I'm not. Ah well, it's late, tutorials are for another day. :)

Dowly
07-27-12, 02:36 AM
The take off is a PITA at times. :yep: Few things that may or may not help:

- The P-51 really REALLY wants to go to the left during take off, so either apply
rudder manually or use rudder trim. Think I read from somewhere that currently
the rudder trim knob has a bug and that the recommended 5 degrees right rudder
is actually much more, so use something like 2-3 trim.

- The tailwheel works as such: Pulling the stick back ties the TW to the rudder
controls, however it can only turn 6 degrees to each side. Moving the stick
forward unlocks the wheel and lets it move around freely, but without any
direct control over it.

The campaign is great for training, it starts you with start-up & taxiing and gradually
moves to more challenging stuff like crosswind take off & landing etc.

Had a little foray into FSX for the first time in a while this evening after visiting a few air museums last week has kinda put me in the mood :D (Pics should be up in GT soon :03:)

Ahh, a Shackleton. I remember seeing them at airshows belonging to 8 Sqn. Contra-rotating props on Griffon engines. Good for displays, not good for the ground crews.

Only one left flying, afaik, in South Africa. :wah:

I know there's one being restored at Coventry airport, but don't know if it's for flying or not. Hope so.

I'm looking at sticking FSX back on soon, looking at replacing HDD first though - I think FSX and my add-ons ran to some 90+ Gigs. :o Didn't have the Shack though.

I was a big Pup fan in my "Red Baron 3d" days. A real delight to fly; my only big complaint was the single machine gun.

The Camel, on the other hand, was her evil big sister. Two guns, but a vicious stall-killed me almost as often as she killed the Germans! :rotfl2:

Oberon
09-10-12, 09:34 PM
I picked up the Pup during my time playing Phase 2 of Over Flanders Fields, I did fly the SE.5 a couple of missions but preferred the Pup.
Had the pleasure of meeting the real thing face to face a few years ago in London, lovely aircraft.
She'll stall more easily than I expected at first in ROF, but the trick is listening to the noise of the wind going past the cockpit, if it all goes quiet then be sure to point the nose down at some point in the near future or it'll take itself there! :haha:
The one MG is very annoying though, but forces you to follow the Dicta Boelcke number 3 to the letter. The Camel is nice, with two MGs and a very impressive flying ability...but is as lethal to the pilot flying it as it is to the enemy. They didn't call it 'The widowmaker' for nothing! :haha:

Kptlt. Neuerburg
09-10-12, 09:56 PM
Yeah the Camel is a devish plane to fly because of the huge amount of tourque generated by the rotory engine. Mind you that any machine having two guns in RoF is always going to be somewhat better off in a furball.

Hey, no fair. How do you fly the 109 and not get the windscreen covered in oil? Or was it valet parked?

Nice shots, as always. :yeah:

LOL, judicious use of radiators, prop pitch and throttle controls, oil only happens when evil Spitire pilots shoot hole in my engine now.

Great shots TarJak, you might want to do something about the underwing double crosses though:hmmm:. Expect some new RoF screens from me in the near furture.

I'd be more concerned about the four Spitfires on his tail  (unless they were AI in which case they most likely collided with each other shortly after the screenshot was taken)

Yeah there is that. I gotta ask is the AI any better in Cliffs of Dover then they are in IL-2? And as promissed heres those RoF screens I was talking about!

I'm not sure how well you'll be able to see this but look between the wing spars. That cheeky bugger tryed to ram me, but lost his wings instead.

In a few days in-game I'll soon be able to start up my RFC campaign. Expect some screens with the Airco D.H.2!

Thats a quirk of the track player. Sometimes for some unknown reason it shows aircraft with markings even though in game they didn't have them and were skinned.

They were AI but their behaviour was pretty good in that they didn't run into me or themselves at all!

Here's a fuller account of what happened:
Took off from Devres and headed to Dover to kill some ships:

http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa54/TarJak/shot_20121003_072859bmp.jpg

Flak cut the hydraulics to my right leg making handling a little tough:
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa54/TarJak/shot_20121003_072948bmp.jpg

As I pulled out of my attack run I was joined by some unfriendlies:

They rattled my cage a bit then we danced:

http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa54/TarJak/shot_20121003_073625bmp.jpg

I then dived for speed and ran like a girl across the channel:
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa54/TarJak/shot_20121003_074002bmp.jpg

Strangely when we hit French Point, they turned around and went home:

I then made a safe but bumpy landing bending my prop.
