Hi.
I'm docked in lerwick before the war starts. Just a curiousity, ya know :)
And what i see after undocking? [...]

1. GWX3 has (still some) errors because start position is in old place for another port plan probably from vanilla SH3. Then your U-boat in GWX is on land - or in land. :)
2. These messages show because there is common error in SH3/GWX in devices upgrade plan written in basic.cfg.
This error is common for type XXI bug in years of war too.
Simply radio and hydrophones mounted in your U-boat not exist before September 1, 1939. Then game go to CTD or destroy/full damage these devices and crew fast repairs it after launch simulator.
Default Radio antenna, radar, sonar and hydrophone cannot be destroy then must be repaired. But in type XXI can destroy because these devices are not default.

You’ll have to open the last sensor.dat activated in your mod list, and give stock GWX values :yep:
Otherwise your watch crew will be blind and detect ships only very close.

Hey Guys
I want to ask if convoy routes in gwx 3.0 its the same as stock sh3 map.
Because am patroling at DF DG DH after operation torch in Nov 42 and there are any convoys. Also i want to ask If convoys from US to USSR using the route east of Canada between Greenland and Iceland and then to Murmansk.

After all nodes checked, not only the visual values but all the sensor values for radar and detection have to be adjusted back to GWX values.
Otherwise you will play an other mod than GWX! (Sometimes 2/3 Km difference)

Good catch Fifi. Over the years I bet a lot of folks installed a lot of mods (especially environments)
that changed a lot of sensor settings and didn't even realize it.

Rnd Random Leyer and the Scr Scripted Leyer in the Mission Editor.

the yellow diamonds are ships/convoy spawning locations and the green circles are spawns of same Ships Convoys every 24-225 hrs with random percentages of ships within that convoy spawning.


Re Convoys to Russia would spawn from lock ewe in Scotland.

Hi all
Maybe i wasn't so clear. I'll try again. In documentation folder there is a map
showing convoy and single merchants routes. ex its a route from New York to Casablanka : ca-dd-de-dr-dg-dh. Question is if i follow this route from mid Nov 42 shall i find any convoy
or this map was made for stock sh3 and gwx using other routes?

UGF UGS GUF GUS Convoys from 1942-1943 are all in there
Fire up the SH3 Mission editor open up the RND Random Leyer find the above Convoys

Click on those Convoys listed on the right then when they open up click on first ship in that Convoy then click on centre view it will take you to the Yellow Diamond of that Convoy then run the mission editor and see how often they spawn lots n lots of the Green Circles criss crossing the Atlantic through out 1942-1943 from Usa - North Africa.

Same for the Russian RA JW Convoys.

This GWX plane is said to have a Leigh Light, along with the Catalina and Liberator.


In looking at the .eqp files, the Catalina and Liberator have the light but not the Wellington.


Don't think I've seen it in the game; is it supposed to or am I mistaken about something ?

Change the REF_DustBin
to REF_Leigh and you'll have it.

No idea why that setting was changed that way.
There is no file with REF_DustBin in GWX.
And I can scan every file in under a minute.

So 'Ref's Dustbin' is actually correct.

No wonder any ship can see me as soon as my watch crew spot them!
Think best is to reduce their max sight to 8 or 9 kilometers...way enough to spot a submarine on the seas...while my watch crew (sensor.dat) has max sight set to around 12000 meters.

Well, that will start a generalized panic.

That is part of the long range gunnery modifications that we have in place which allows large surface ships to engage each other at extended ranges as you might expect to observe in real life.

HOWEVER, for that to happen, the target has to be a certain size. The target has to be large. Your U-boat doesn't fit that description, and regardless of the range you set your visual sensor maximum, visual sensors remain broken in relation to the old 'vampire night vision' bug.

NOTE to all readers, the 'vampire night vision' bug that I mention above, has nothing to do with GWX.

Yes that is what I am saying. No mod truly fixes it without sacrificing other element(s).

Like we discussed at length, and briefly tested a few days back, where it relates to modifying visual sensors in SH3, it doesn't leave you with enough string to tie your boots. I believe that we have approximated to the degree that if can be influenced without completely wrecking the overall balance.

Thanks, just wanted to verify. I've felt the same way for awhile via some things I've seen but glad to actually hear from someone with your knowledge of the sensor files.

Guess it can be partly considered the price to pay for a 16k env. eh ?

I think I will answer your question this way:

With the visual sensor range that Fifi noted above, in testing we were able to consistently simulate radar-directed gunfire between battleships at about the 18k 18,000 meter range.

I'm actually kind of glad that Fifi brought the matter up, as it reminded me of things I haven't thought of for a long time. (Already covered in the posts above.)

A gentleman by the name of Cdre Gibbs was the inventor of the LRG mod (Long Range Gunnery) mod and other elements that are exclusive to GWX. After some tangles with the leadership of the day here, he is no longer with Subsim. Try as I might, I was unable to successfully mediate between the two. I learned much of what I know regarding SH3 depthcharge behavior, gunnery behavior, sensors, and sensor behavior from Cdre Gibbs and Ref. (and many other things) I consider both to be friends and miss them both.

No worries Fifi.
Don't forget, there are all the usual factors that still apply such as light factor, wave height etc... when it comes to you being spotted by battleships, large cruisers, and others. As usual, the bigger you are, the easier you are to spot. For example: If you are running parallel to the Bismarck, and a mile closer to an enemy battleship, it will be the Bismarck that the enemy ship engages at great distance.... not your U-boat.

In the begining of 43 i transfered to Bordeaux and i got IXD2. I added through jsgme "Late war SNK_RWR_for all_v2" Also i added Radar warning receiver and fumo 29 radar following the instructions from manual. I made 2-3 partols and all was working fine till i added fumo 30 and an a new model of radar receiver.
After that i have not radar contacts, only visual and hydrophone.
Can somebody to help

The mod you refer to, "Late war SNK_RWR_for all_v2" is not part of GWX 3.0. However, post your activated mod list and I'll take a look at it. (No promises of resulting solution, though.)

Just a thought Nik:
You’re giving others sensors to your German U-Boat Compilation with the last mod. No wonder you lost something on the road :03:
Second, the German U-Boat Compilation sensors have different values than GWX ones (assuming you are playing GWX). So unless you give German U-Boat Compilation sensor.dat same GWX values, you are not playing GWX anymore!...
Quite complicated to perfectly adapt so many mods to a data base like GWX without breaking something (well should say many things)...
Last advice would be to deactivate your German U-Boats Compilation 2 (only VIIB & VIIC models by WISE) unless playing VIIB & VIIC only first turm career. After VIIC first turm it will certainly CTD as the mod is not finished. Well here i got CTD anyway.

I downloaded the Grey Hunter torrent from the modders website, freshly installed Silent Hunter 3 on Steam, but it's telling me it can detect previous mods. I've never modded SH3 before, and it's a fresh install, so am I doing something wrong?

If you try to install GWX v3.0 then you have not chosen the right directory for the install. This is not chosen automatically.

For the record:
If the directory is wrong, or even empty(!), then the GWX-installer tells you not the truth in the english language install: "- Modded files were found."

The same in the german language install the Message is not fully correct, but more then in english version: "- GWX3.0 Dateien konnten nicht gefunden werden". Which means in english: GWX-files could not be found.
In contrary to the EN this is complete revered in meaning.


So try to find where Steam has installed your SH3, and chose this for the GWX-install.


Next part will be the "Large Adress Aware" or known as 4GB-patch.

If you have then problems running GWX i recommend reading some more about how to install and run SH3 on Steam. What to do in Win10. (Run as Administrator, in Win7 Compatibility mode).

And yes there are entries on the SCR for a Canadian Type=100
The PRT

As youve changed the Roster and Sea files the game will crash looking for a Canadian Type=100 of which there isnt as you changed it to a 102

So, I've played GWX, NYGM, and now WAC5.2.

I've got a beautiful GWX based install with MFM, the German U-boat compilation, Thomsen's sound mod, etc. Things look beautiful, the gameplay feels right, etc.

But the rate of contact with other traffic in GWX leaves me wanting.

WAC5.2 seems to generate a lot more traffic in general. In some places (Skaggerak, Baltic Sea, for example) I can't sail more than an hour or two without coming across *some* kind of traffic - whether a neutral fishing boat, an enemy warship, or a friendly submarine. It's a much different experience than GWX where it's mostly watching your circle move across the nav map at TC 128 hoping for*some* kind of contact, even in what should be heavily populated sea lanes.

That initial rush of "smoke on the horizon", followed by stalking to establish course and speed, followed by the haulover, setting up the shot and waiting, only to realize it's a neutral, is unfulfilling when it only happens infrequently in GWX and NYGM.

Is there a way to tweak the GWX files to increase the amount of contact with traffic? I'm assuming it's in campaign.scr or the like? I'm assuming it's some kind of number indicating frequency of spawning?

hello everyone I am new to silent hunter 3 and I have gwx3.0 gold installed. on patrol 11 that I am in December 1940 I leave the port of weimheme and the painting does not tell me to go on patrol, it tells me null and tells me to go back to lorent but when I go to lorent I cannot finish the game, and I can only go to weinheme. is it any mod option? Can you help me? thank you

This will be my first post ever here.

5 years ago, I was about to get in to Silent Hunter III, but shortly after, my motherboard took its last breath. Finally this year, I got a new desktop.
This makes me a new beginner, when it comes to mods.
I have installed GWX 3.0, and have several mods installed, as I had them 5 years ago.
Here on the forum, I read an old thread about a recommended list of mods. The problem is that I have tried to search for them, but cant find them.
Can anyone give me an updated list of recommended mods, and where I can find them?

I played Aces of the Deep in the early 1990's. And now I recently got interested in playing a Sub Sim game again. I decided on SH3 to be my choice.
I have been playing it in it's Vanilla format for 2 months, and I have even used the mission editor to create my own single player mission.
I think I'm ready to get more out of the game by using mods. But I have absolutely no experience with installing & configuring mods. So I got question. I'v got SH3 installed on a Pentium 4 PC using Windows XP. My question is, what is the chance that installing GWX 3.0 will change my systems files and settings so much that the other games won't run anymore? or ruin the great performance the PC has right now?

A few things, I was just off the coast of Scotland playing as a ship, there was a fair few warships on the horizon, I decided to go west and avoid them as I had been sinking lone merchants.

On the external camera I noticed 2 DD's circling with search lights on the water as though looking for a sub, this made me wonder if ai submarines were in this sim?

While on the camera I saw for the first time a small sailing boat, not a sampan.

My other question is as I asked in another post above, the external camera doesn't zoom out very far is there a fix for this?

Hello all. Its been a very long time since I was last here. But I recently decided to dust off GWX and seem to have run into an issue with my plotting maps being unaligned and doubled up.... hard to explain, but basically, the main map is split in 2, vertically, with an identical map each side BUT it seems that the actual place names, are well off to the east from where they should be.... and on a different layer from the maps. so the names appear as if on 1 map, but laid over the 2 maps...... if you get what im trying to describe?

EDIT: Yes, indeed a problem with the 1080 widescreen mod. No issues in standard tunnel vision :)


EDIT 2: Problem sorted. The problem was the way I activated the mods in JSGME. The order. AND the fact it was all done at 4am......

Hi,

This thread is too long t skim throu to find the solution but maybe you can help med.

Thing is that I can´t get Greywolves to work with SH3 commander yet it works if I start from "Silenthunter with GWX"

But if I start a career from SH3 commander then efter i Check realism and so on and start loading the patrol it crashes just before patrol start.


What to do and is this a known problem?
I run on new modern computer (doesn´t remember the spec) and windovs10 home.

Any help would be appreciated

OP fixed his, but in case anyone else has this issue:

In your TychoSh3Patch.map file (open using notepad), you'll see this section:

If you're having a double screen glitching, removing the three @@@ in front of the 000s (NOT the @@@ in front of Expand Nav) *should* fix it. Make sure they're removed all the way down to:

:000739E4: 04 00," which is right above the "@@@Scopes and reticles" section.

It fixed it for me, at least.

I've seen this issue a lot on these forums and rarely have I seen someone post the solution that worked for me, so here it is.

Do you mean it doesn't work when you try to start it or it doesn't work at all ? If the former, that is the way it is supposed to be unless a mod is applied.

it doesnt work outside of the periscope. Im using GWX 3.0 gold which i believe is supposed to repeat it so you can use it outside of that view. i think i might actually have something screwy with my load order which could be conflicting. im still at work btw lol. This is my mod load order currently as i can remember from memory.

It should be a repeater. I bet you are correct; some other mod is causing a conflict.
Look for any that contain the menu.ini file; I know several in your list do. You probably have to copy the relevant section in the GWX file to whatever mod you want to use that also has the file.

A friend gave me the remasted director's cut of Das Boot and I heard the call of the Battle of the Atlantic again. I'm running TWoS and enjoying it, but it does have some limitations. I feel like I've never gave GWX a fair shake and I'm gearing up to install it. A couple questions:

-- I'm running Win 7 and the Grey Wolves site only has instructions for XP and Vista. Is there
some else needed for Win 7?

-- My version of SH3 is a Steam download. Can I assume that it's patched to 1.4?

-- Is the Large Address Aware utility required to run GWX?

-- Has the Ahnenerbe GUI become easier to install?

Copy your Silent Hunter 3 folder from Steam to a SAFE folder somewhere other then the standard install.

You will need to point the Patch to THAT folder!

I checked an older version of Steam's SH3 install and they did in fact change the SH3.exe!
Seems they were giving you all the Reloaded hacked version.

Hi all! So i play the GWX mod on mission 3 where i get i sweet type 21 U boat with a radar on it, the problem is that i cant get it to turn it on, the antenna is up and i even get the radioman telling me that he has contacts on the radar but i can't have him report those to me nor operate the radar myself (can't turn it on actually), any those/ similar experiences?

Simply swapping campaign files won't work; they may contain ships, planes, etc. that you wouldn't have in your install which would cause ctds.
But adding individual ships, etc. isn't hard to do. There are many links of info. about doing such; instead of listing them here might be best to google the subject.
There is an excellent "adding new ships.pdf" but I can't recall who/where it is.

I want to try GWX again but I'm wondering if there are alternate large resolution GUI's available that might be easier to install?

Same process. If you want them in the campaign, you have to do one or both of two things to its files:

- add them to the .rnd file.
- add them to the .scr file.

Both can be done however you'd like; by themselves, with other groups, with groups of their own, etc.

Looks fine full screen if your montors resolution/aspect ratio fits it.

I have a question concerning GUI's available for GWX. About a year and a half ago I tried installing ARB's 1920x1080 and couldn't get Tycho's patch to work, so I was stuck with the small nav and attack maps. I finally just gave up and played SH4 and it's mega mod Dark Waters.

I want to try GWX again but I'm wondering if there are alternate large resolution GUI's available that might be easier to install?

I was able to install the DGUI 1900X1080 widescreen fix to my NYGM installation and successfully patch it with Tyco's patch. I don't know of any reason why it wouldn't work on GWX, so you might consider giving it a try. Just make sure you are in port when you do it.

I've been in SH4, Dark Waters and SH5 so I'm not all that familiar with the SH3 mods. What's DGUI?

What do you mean by add more capital ships ?

Different units to currently ingame
Or
Add more capital ship movements

Both are possible, the first one, replacing placeholder units with another correct unit, is the easiest.
The second requires scripting

After all years i decided to travel a little bit east and south. So i created another 2 installations with s3f. Thinking one of them to use for Indian Ocean camp and the other for the Med. I read at gwx manual that when i want to transfer to far east (10 flottila) the only thing to do is to enable via jsgme "Gwx indian ocean campaign". The :Kaleun_Cheers::k_confused:quest is when (yy/mm)?
As for Med must to enable a mod or i ask for transfer in 29 flottila?

just reinstalled sh3 + gwx now that my area is in covid lockdown and have aton of time in 'work from home' heh. so glad that this site is still available after all these years, cheers.

feedback:
1) ran the naval academy tutorial - torpedo. the idle tramp steamer was able to 'bunny hop' right out of my torp set to fast and aimed right at the bow tip at 1km from 0knot... this is kinda too much for my comprehension haha. is there a way to tone down merchant ship acceleration to adhere more to reality? i think they wouldnt even have time to start their engine irl..

2) the torpedo trap door seems to close on its own after i have opened it and select other torp. how to avoid this? i wanted to pre-open the tubes to allow quick succession of torp but this automation is not very helpful.
edit : hmm tested this again using navigation tutorial and its not happening again.. weird. please ignore this.

2. To keep all torpedo doors open after selecting them requires a change in your commands_*.cfg file found in path <game>/data/cfg.
Disable the commands for close torpedo door and toggle open close torpedo tube. May be commands # 309 and 312 in your file if it hasn't already been changed.

Hey, this is my first post.
I am playing SH3 with GWX and with GWX Enhanced Damage Effects.
Somehow enemy ships are getting sunk, but there is no fire ever. Sometimes you can hear fire inside of the ship. But on the surface of the ship (cargo, crates) I never have fire. Is this normal or a bug?

The installer works fine, especially considering it was created around twelve years ago by a member. It is not broken in any sense of the word.
What version of SH3 do you have ? I.e., steam, dvd, etc. ?

Can say that I have had no issues with installing GWX, with either Steam's SH3 nor with Ubi's either... have to wonder if your copy isn't an older disk install.. or if you by chance, did NOT end up installing SH3 into a folder, where it ought NOT be sent to... such as either C:\Program files or C:\Program files (x86) as those areas, are under Window's iron fisted grip, & do NOT under any circumstances like any tampering of files there being done. :yep:

1 thing I love is... Gung ho iguana's... that don't bother to read & just jump into trying to stuff things together & then wonder why things have gone south, in a hurry... :06: :doh: :o then blame the mod... NOT judging, just an observation there... have to admit, at 1 time... I too, used to be a neophyte gung ho iguana Myself... but learned early on, to stop being 1. :yep: Still ain't perfect by any means, as I still goof every once in a while, but am not so quick to blame the mods or the maker of them, as I once was...

After taking a deep breath & calming down a bit, can you provide info on just what the source of your SH3 is, where you have it installed by chance there, Thorstein1... then perhaps, it can be sorted out as to what is causing your GWX ills, perhaps... :yep:

Does SH3 has mod adding dynamic missions from BDU or new mission types? Like some new missions from SH4 or SH5. Multi staged patrols, refuel missions, attack on convoys etc. Or SH5 mission zone imitation. Something besides patrol grid.

DO NOT allow it to install in either of the Program Files folders! Install it to any other directory; mine is in C://Games/Ubisoft/SH3. I don't have the Steam version, but that doesn't matter. Also, after you install correctily, be sure you run Large Address Aware or the 4GB Patch. They allow SH3 to use more than 2Gb of memory. You need that for GWX. Good luck!

By GWSE you probably mean JSGME. It is a program that allows mods to be added and removed from the game.
It has nothing to do with your ctds.
If you haven't already, install the 4gb patch. Remove all the mods you already installed via JSGME, install the 4gb patch and try again without any other mods.
GWX + 4gb patch only.

Gwx was good back in the time, not any more, but it's people choice (yours) to play dinosaur mod, but its n'ot mine thats foshu.

I have one point here (and like all other's - it is an opinion - but a valid one, I think): ALL mods, including SH4 mods, are built on what the GWX team did. It is what was used as the "base" for all of the other SH3 mods that followed. Only NYGM can claim an independent development path. Those two mods have influenced all others, and are the ones that everything else stands on. Compare files sometime, and see for yourself.

We did not have S3D. We worked the Dark arts of Hex editing and wrote programs to do things never done before!

We made friends and We made Enemies along the way.
GWX 3.0 stands to this very day as one of THE Top Mods for SH3!
We need not change it or do a newer version.

It has already set a bar that others try to jump over!
It is the example that others try to copy! Not the mod itself but the Team work behind it! The way the Team worked with SO many other modders to get permissions and insure that a scale was set that NO OTHER TEAM HAS EVER MET!

I can go ahead flank side by side next to a destroyer or ASW tugboat etc without them detecting me. It did work fine on previous careers, but not now? Im currently in mid 1941 but i've had it happen later on in the war also. I removed all my mods then re-installed them and it worked, but now the problem has returned.





A secondary minor problem is that there is no wind sound in game, however if i save and exit at sea, then reload the wind returns. Its never really bothered me tbh, just thought i would mention it.

Both problems mentioned are/can be part of Sh3 itself at times. I've seen the same (especially the visual problem) numerous times, in both NYGM and GWX; it's not the supermods, it's SH3 itself at times.
Are you saying your use of Commander is the only thing that has changed since you didn't have the visual problem ? Or are you also using other mods than before ?
I.e., you don't really need WB's Decks Awash + Fuel Economy mod. GWX already has it's versions of that affect.

After several long years of being in dry-dock, I am finally back on the High Seas, with the great help of Jimbuna!


I am currently in the early stages of my shake-down cruise, trying to wash away a ton of rust.


I was hoping someone can help me out?


I am using GWX Gold and Commander.

Where in the sub /what keyboard command will bring up a calendar to tell you what the date is?


So far, with not locating one, the only way I can tell the date is if I sink a ship, as it will be displayed in the log book.

If I go several days in between sinking a ship, it is hard to remember!

A few days ago I bought a licensed Windows 10 and they all worked very well. I remembered GWX and said to try and see if I still have the same bugs. I installed it on Steam but I was not satisfied. I tried Ubisoft Connect and had only 2 bugs.
I installed outside the Program Files folder, I installed GWX, I installed 4GB patch, I deselected Read Only, I checked compatibility and they recommended XP SP3, and Run as administrator. I had only 2 problems: at the Cerberus mission a destroyer did not completely sink and at the Brake mission the red marker did not appear on the map when I sank the destroyer.

What a wonderful day:

1 - in Operation Cerberus I hit two destroyers almost simultaneously and I launched the attack when the destroyers were at more of 3700m. I was disappointed when I received a message from the BDU that the tanker had probably sunk. And I had just saved him.

2 - at the Brake mission I managed to save the tanker, I quickly sailed in the direction of the destroyer and when I got close enough I dived to the depth of the periscope and launched a torpedo from more than 3 kilometers. The destroyer hit Brake twice and after that BOOOOM, the torpedo sank the destroyer. I easily sank the other destroyer.

3 - the hardest part was the Italia mission. I hit the battleship Italia with 3 torpedoes and the battleship Vittorio Veneti with 2 torpedoes. I was hunted by the destroyer but I managed to escape. I caught up Italy and torpedoed it again, battleship sunk. I got out of the dive, meanwhile the 4 destroyers caught up with the battleship. Unfortunately I was careless and they detected me on the surface. I quickly dived, I escaped easier this time. I followed Vittorio Veneto again and caught him at night but he was no longer escorted by the 4 destroyers. 2 more torpedoes and I'm done. I caught him very very far from the place where I sunked Italia.

I am back in business dear sailors. 62% realism!

1 - I sank all 5 destroyers but I failed to save the tanker.
2 - I sank HMS Nelson and 7 destroyers

After three days and dozens of attempts, I managed to complete the mission of "HMS Eagle". HMS Eagle and SS Ohio are sunk and Malta can no longer survive. In the meantime, I managed to fulfill the mission of "HMS Barham"! All 3 battleships plus one more warship are sunk!

If installation is putting you off, you could try the OneAlex Edition of GWX.

You don't need anything from your original DVD or CD, or to install it, you simply have it so you're a licensed user and 'legal'.

OneAlex Edition comes in a large, single compressed file.

If you haven't already got a program on your PC which can unzip/decompress such files, download and install 7zip first: https://sourceforge.net/projects/sevenzip/

Then download GWX OneAlex Edition. It's a big file so will take a while.

When it's finished downloading, use 7zip to unzip/decompress the file to a new folder - SH3 ideally - on your PC's hard drive (but not inside the folder Program files (x86).

Play!

As well as the best of GWX and all sorts of improvements, GWX OneAlex Edition includes:

- the much-improved U-boats from the German U-Boat Compilation mod; and

- the SH3 Commander utility (SH3C) which is great (amongst other things) for creating a commander persona, giving real names to the ships you sink and creating good patrol records (tho you don't have to use SH3C).

Yes Anvar is right, ask on the Onealex mod thread and its Shift + U and Ctrl + U in his mod to equip UZO on bridge and off again. What I tell everyone is whatever megamod your using then press F1 in game and it will give you list of in-game controls for that particular megamod.

Remove the textures listed for that sail then add the texture in the dat
Export then. DO NOT SAVE the file when you close it!!! Unless your working from a copied file.

Export the animations. Some sails grow larger when the animations run.
You could then find the right sized sail.
Or just scale it up in any 3D program.

Getting back into SH3 world again.....Donated to the site and I am now downloading GWX3 Gold as I type this....Should be done tomorrow when I get up at the speed it is coming to me. Really looking forward to trying this Mod out ...... And dying every career I start (laughing). Does GWX have everything to make it the full experience or are their other Mods to be recommended to add to it?

I'm not familar with steam but I believe you need to install the game outside of it's default steam folder for any mods to be able to be applied.

There's a few uses that makes it worth having SH3Commander...

Having a realistic career, crew changes, randomizing ship tonnage, ship names in the after actions reports, being able to assign crew to posts, just to name but a few... that I can recall, off the top of My mind. :hmmm:

My radio operator buttons are overlapped and I'm not sure how to interpret the pos entries in the menu_1024_768 file to space them correctly? Any pointers? Iirc the pos numbers are in reference to the lower, left corner of the screen. It's been awhile since I messed with them but one is for vertical movement, the other horizontal.
Just experiment with different entries and you'll get the hang of it.

Onealex's GWX mod uses GUC and has the updated CoD. You may want to look at this great mod. Has all the whistles and bells already loaded, easy install.

Just curious--I'm currently playing Onealex, but I want to see how GWX works without it. No matter how many times I try, I can't get Arb Widegui to work with GWX. The Nav Map is unusable. I keep slamming into walls or running aground and killing pedestrians. Is MaGUI compatible with GWX3_Full? If so, the Media Fire page that the link provided on the mod's thread links to doesn't have MaGUI listed.

Any help finding MaGUI would be appreciated.

You better read the entire topic 'Tycho Sh3 Patch' https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=231140, in posts 51 and 52 it says specifically what to do if you have a double map.
For the patch you need the original sh3.exe which must first be patched by H.sie and only then patch it with a patch from Tycho. Tycho does not patch after itself (Tycho patch) already patched file, or H.sie does not patch after Tycho - I don’t remember. That's why the patching workflow is so complex: Original sh3.exe -> H.sie path -> Tycho patch

Do not post the same question on several threads.

The developers of GWX was very picki about realism in this mod. They have done things what was possible in SH3 by that days.
So why do you think that the Ranks are not realistic?

No, i am not interested of _any_ Realism-discussion here, but probably anyone else is. :nope:

I have not the feeling that the ranks in SH3 is that far from the History.

For short, i see no problem here.
The game is made to begin with low level, and not with high level ranks. These comes over time if you succeed.


The crew files can be found in SH3-Cfg-directory called crew_config_*.cfg. Try create your own Mod.

Go to Crew-Barracks just before start Mission and buy what you can. Enough renown of course. They will vary somewhat on every Look into the Barracks, maybe to simulate there availability. The more experience they have, the higher the coast.

:Kaleun_Cheers: First of all I want to thank you for the most beautiful video game I have played. The historical accuracy (camouflage, airships, messages from BdU etc.), the details of the weather and nature (spectacular sunsets and sunrises, the beauty of waves, spectacular fog, icebergs, rain and thunder, etc.), the large number of missions, the very elaborate manual and, most importantly, so many ships to sink, made me love GWX so much!

Secondly, I want to tell you that after about 5 years, with patience, I managed to do all 47 missions (realism 62% or 74%)!

Lads, I have an issue I'm sure has a solution.
For some reason after January 9th 1940, my game continues to crash, there were no previous crashes, especially after I changed my SH3.exe file to adminstrative mode.
I figured it might've have something to do with a transfer between ports. I decided to do a transfer from Kiel til Wilhelm's after my 6th patrol, (Dec 12th 1939), but after loading an earlier save, and reversing the change, my game still crashed after trying to start the patrol.

any of you guys have an solution?
