Don't know where your problems are at.
I had to D/L Everything this past week or so cause of a system
crash and total restore.
No problems with the files, just the D/L speed in these danged Motels!!
I've backed all those D/L's to mini re-writeables with no problems.

Just to let everyone know I've revamped the GWX web page. The previous page was only ever meant to be a temporary measure, however, as is usually the way, temporary became permamnent, LOL!
I hope you find the new web page easier to use and navigate. It will continue to evolve with more screenshots and other items as time permits.

to the GWX team,
first, what a great mod :rock:it has changed my sh3 enjoyment enormously
second I would like to make a suggestion since I read work is progressing on a new version.
I noticed that GWX alters some of the landmasses in SH3, things like adding Kiel and Suez canals which is great, there are however a few annoying immersion breakers left in the landmasses and map (especially for Dutchmen like me I think) because of historical inaccuracy, it's a common mistake made by many game developers, microsoft with their ww2 flight sim did the same.:nope:
examples and suggestions below
http://home.wanadoo.nl/omf17235/images/correct1.JPG
these aren't so bad, the following however are
http://home.wanadoo.nl/omf17235/images/correct2.JPG
I don't know how fixable this is, but if it's possible I'd like to suggest correcting these mistakes for the sake of historical accuracy
just my 2 cents, thank you for your time, I'm off to sink some more whale-factory ships, save the whales, sink 'em all :D

This expansion is great. Thanks for all the time you have put into this! I thought I was finished with SH3 about a year ago when I completed the war with the original TGW supermod (died in 1942 and started a new career that lasted to the end of the war).
SH4 has been a disappointment so far in it's unfinished state, so I started looking back at SH3 and mods for that. GWX - yeah I already have greywolves I thought, but what about the X? Turns out to be almost like a new game, released long after i quit playing SH3 and with the latest patch just a month ago!
So far GWX seems to have exactly what I was missing in stock SH3. I laid in wait for operation Torch, Neptune and other invastions by sea only to find emtpy seas in SH3. I haven't got that far yet with GWX, but weserubung was a blast with one fleet carrier and a battleship sunk (I think it was Ark Royal and Rodney).
I have a couple of questions too.
1. I read about the optional mods for GWX, and installed some of them with JSGME. But I can't find the optional mods for no minefields (only for no friendly), and 24-hour fatigue. I don't care about the minefields, but I was considering using the 24-hour fatigue since the 8-hour one isn't working as described.
2. The 8-hour fatigue model. 8 hours seems just about right, but medals seem to work exactly like before. Iron Cross gives xp, germal cross in gold eliminates fatigue completely for me. Granted it's pretty nice to have a sonarman with that one (my only german cross so far), but is this working like you intended? My impression of the medals so far is that all of them are pretty useless, exept for the germal cross.
3. Random days in port. It's usually about 30 days and that seems fine, but once it was only 6 days and that seems way too short.

I'm using the last update of GWX (1.3) with the last of SH3 commander and the "FILES FOR SH3 COMMANDER USERS" and I noticed, don't know if it's a bug from the original game cause never noticed before, that lights from lighthouses don't respect the opacity of the crew body's meshes.
Also, which is a minor problem and don't bother so much, that many names on the maps are placed in the water when zooming in. And a question, is it posible to edit the search paterns menu to add more paterns?
Thanks in advance.

Radio contacts are usually 'eye candy' to add an immersion factor to the game.

Maybe the question was before, but is there a chance to have a more voice in game, for example report sent when you send the message, or enemy radio message intercepted (I don't know, there is a sound file for this but I haven't yet in game this message)? Also I tried one sound file for new message received (with Enigma sound from Das Boot) but I don't have a sound in game when TC drop from 256 to 1, is the sound for new message available only if you in moment when message arrived in TC 1 or maybe I wrong in something?

If memory serves, this has been asked before. I think it is only possible to change or edit exisiting entries. So if you wanted 'Report Sent' then you will have to loose something else. I think the only way to add more voice responses would be to have the SDK :damn: and edit the sound.dll file while creating more 'triggers' for the sounds to be activated. It is a shame as there are so many sound/voice files ready to be used (even in stock) that were never finished/activated by the SH3 Devs.

Hi all GWX veterans !
As I got some free time I indulged myself into some submarine campaigning.
I had already played GWX1.0 but not for long (due to time constraints).
Again let me say it is a marvel regarding immersion and historicity and I could never thank enough the modders for their formidable work. I would however mention a few quirks which may already have been addressed before (sorry if it s the case).
First, a good thing, I was unable to install the 1.2 patch despite all my efforts but 1.3 installed flawlessly (bingo !), I read that it must have been "more tolerant", what does it mean exactly (which files are critical) ?
Now the quirks that I find "less palatable" :
- in rough weather when you reload a saved game your crew loses their raincoats (I was not aware of this in previous versions)
- is the fact that my hydrophone officer reports sound contacts when surfaced due to the fact that my sub is constantly in heavy seas (9 days of thunderstorm in a row, weather is really the poorest model in the game but it seems it is practically beyond patching) ?
- Why can I receive radio messages when submerged (again I suspected heavy weather triggering temporary surfacing but it recently happened below 30 metres) ?
None of these quirks are show stoppers and they may be caused by native SH3 code or something I forgot to do in SH3commander (but I followed all the advices), I ask the questions just for the sake of completeness.
Bonus question : does one ace around know a good method to measure distance of targets in heavy seas (last time it was so hard that I had to let my scope high above water for so long that a DD engaged me with machine gun fire (I think) and destroyed the scope ?
Thanks for your opinion and advice.
- in rough weather when you reload a saved game your crew loses their raincoats (I was not aware of this in previous versions)
I believe this is a stock bug, to solve that you must ony put for a moment the men in their quarters (so they can take the raincoat they forgot ! :D ) an put them again on the bridge.
- Why can I receive radio messages when submerged (again I suspected heavy weather triggering temporary surfacing but it recently happened below 30 metres) ?
I think real U-Boats could actually receive messages if they were few metres under the surface; but they could not transmit.

Does GWX change the shipping lanes and routes of convoys and single / double ships in open ocean compared to stock sh3?
And the frequency / number of merchant activity?
I need this info for a project I'm about to start: making an online map with contact dots, based on reports by the community.
I need to know if I should use different colours for different mods.
Thanks in advance ;)

Now, I would really be interested in a discussion about UB radio aerials performance.;)

Maraz
During the WW2 underwater radio communication was very useful. Submarines were able to receive messages from their commands without surfacing, i.e. the submarines could been submerged. The submarines could not be detected by radar, and the Allies' direction finders could not detect submarines' positions because the submarines were not using their radio transmitters, just receivers. But because of the "one way" communication, it was specific organized traffic, by previously determined scheme.

a small question,
I've been playing in the med recently, and starting in Salamis I saw german type 34 destroyer in the port, that set me wondering how it got there, surely not through Gibraltar? I'd expect Italians, certainly, but German ships?
I know there are internal canals in France that connect the Med to the Atlantic, so that's certainly conceivable for something like DDs and flottenbegleiters and smaller ships like that.
vorpostenboote and armed trawlers are conceivably recruited locally but specifically German DDs from Kiel and ports like that? It seems quite strange, I'll do some research on Kriegsmarine surface assets in the Med, because it got me intrigued I'd be interested in your views on this matter

Hi all,
I'm a total newbie - so sorry for long text and questions!
Have been playing stock SH3 for about a month, getting on OK (87% realism and no manual targetting yet!). Using a new Apple iMac 2.0 GHz (Intel core 2 Duo), 2 GB ram, built-in ATi Radeon X1600 graphics with 128 SDRAM. Win XP and SP2. Stock SH3 runs fine with this, in 'medium' graphics display mode...
Runs CTD-free and very stable. No real problems at all (except some keyboard commands are a bit diff. from on a Win PC). Occasionally have strange 'saving' probs - but I think that's my sticky fingers - or beer volume.
My questions is: Will I be able to run GWX, as I think I will start to get bored with vanilla SH3 quite soon ?!!! PS: The graphics card is not upgradeable - and maybe it's not good enough for GWX?
Are there any other Kaleuns on here running SH3 on an Intel Apple Mac?
I HATE the weather model in SH3, just spent 8 days sitting off NY harbor - but weather too bad (15m/s wind) for any decent tonnage gathering - as cannot find targets !
TIA and happy hunting to all - and may Bernard NOT be with you

From the GWX manual page 18 mate:
The Grey Wolves Expansion (GWX) team suggests your computer meet the recommended system configuration requirements for Silent Hunter III, and that you use the Silent Hunter III Detection Tool to determine whether your system meets these requirements. We have found that running with less than the recommended configuration can result in choppiness and low frame rates (frames per second), and can occasionally result in freezing or locking up your game.

No prob matey. I hope it works out for you.
GWX can run on lesser systems... but it is likely to be choppy. If you are having to run stock SH3 on medium graphic settings... I'm thinking that you'll probably have troubles w/GWX.
However, there is really only one way to find out.:ping:

Correct.
Remember, there are many things in stock SHIII, even with patch 1.4b that cannot be fixed by a mod or expansion pack. And they will never be fixed unless Ubi allows another patch. So don't hold your breath..... ;) .

Ah, not true.:D
There is a land editor, that's how the Canals were added. It stands to reason that other land masses can be added or removed.
I think you can change the textures for Grass & Snow but you cannot change where and when these are used, which I think is the crux of your problem.

I've just thought about something, before we all clap and cheer for 1.04 which I am eagerly anticipating myself, what will 1.04 do to the difficulty?
As it stands now on 1.03 I am happy, everything is fine as far as I am concerned, the game is pretty much just right or feels just right, thanks of course to Dan and his improving the torpedoes for me (only external adjustment to GWX I have), otherwise GWX would have been gone. Because while I love the GWX Xperience. I draw the line at putting 3 torpedoes into a medium sized ship and it still sails off. I want to have fun and get a sense of completion when I attack something, that is where my pursuit of realism ends. I need to see that "she's going down message" so then can enjoy watching it sink or break in two or whatever. I need that to feel good about the game.
At present I play at about 55% realism, I may up it as I get more experienced and can play to the same levels as my brother does (another GWX Hardcore). I am semi-realistic. You won't ever see me doing a 1TC patrol. I like GWX very very much. I have a lot of loyalty to the Grey Wolves team, and am extremely grateful for all their hard work in making SH3 what it is now and all the new content. Also for when they all came round me in my hour of need, particularly Dan.
The GWX team DOES help when you ask for it, I am sure that they get chance when 1.04 is done you come to them and say this or that is bugging me can you help, I hopefully am not deluded in saying they would help be it with advice or more technical support like what I had. They seem to care about their users. So I think from what I see here they are a bit maligned, wrongly at that.
So there that is my (just and warranted) defence of the team in light of some stick they have had, and also my queries as to what I can expect next.

Good day Gwx people
<monty python>
I'd like to register a complaint :D, this u-boat what I bought in this very boutique not 3 days ago is dead, deceased, sleeping with the fishies, etc etc...
</monty python>
well not really, although the damage wasn't pretty, it's just that I got the snot bombed out of me by a sunderland in the med just now,
it was april of 42 grid CO1755 (which I mistakenly thought to be Axis airspace)
now correct me if I'm wrong here but isn't the beginning of 42 the time when the British are defending Malta from everything the Italians and the 5th Luftflotte can throw at them with 3 aging Gloster Gladiator Biplanes as well as having their convoys regularly blasted to bits when passing close to Sicily and North Africa.
I wouldn't really expect any allied air assets simply because the nearest bases are Tobruk (which is besieged) and Malta, both aren't really a good place for allied aircraft to be coming from
any thoughts on this?
also, and this is my most frustrating GWX moment yet, for which you all are entitled plenty of credit, simply because of good Immersiveness (is that a word)
I ran into a convoy, listened a bit, figured out only 2 escorts for 2 rows of ships, so I go in for a closer look, nearest row is 3 passenger liners and a large transport, so I'm counting on medals for everyone, turns out the convoy is Italian :damn::damn::damn:
certainly made me grumble, but that's Immersion for you.

May be download through torrent is the best choice - all downloads would be resumed without any data loss.

Ok, A newbie question for hte Kpt, when he has a chance,
I have searched through the forums, this one and others, for info on what effect the Map Contacts check has on reality.
I play on no/low time compression - and with GWX, which I love. I do all manual plotting and targeting, and love that I have no magic marker GPS that shows me where the enemy is (ok, ok, easy on the realism snobbery).
But having been away for a while, I reloaded GWX 1.03 - and had that wonderful RDF loop spinning on my Type II in 1939 - which is GREAT!!! The question is - with Map contacts off - does the loop work? Will I ever see a contact box based on an RDF hit like I used ot with Map Contacts on? Or is that completely disabled.
Now, having read the thread, I know that RDF hits are about 5% of what they were in the stock game - but because I play on such a low time compression, I haven't ever seen one - and just wanted to make sure I have a fighting chance of getting a hit with my beautiful new spinning RDF loop?
If anybody has an answer, please let me know - and thanks in advance for any help.
Tchuss,
Notewire.

I think that, with No Map Updates turned on, you will never get any indication on the nav map. You should, however, still receive written/audible notification from your crew.
Someone will have to confirm this but I think it's all or nothing with this option on.
Can't say for sure as I don't play with this option on.
Someone will know. I'm bordering on 95% certainty.:-?
Notewire
05-25-07, 04:34 PM
Can anyone confirm that? Does No Map Contacts mean nothing on the map at all? Or just no GPS dots on the map when tracking ships.
I would love to know if No Map Contacts still allows for some input from my directional radio finding crew - even if it is just verbal or written.
Anybody know?
Thanks in advance for the help,
Notewire.

Disabling Map Contacts does exactly that... removal of all map contacts and contact lines. However, visual, sound/hydrophone, radar warning receiver and radar contact info is given to you by your crew by bearing to target and non-detailed/non-descriptive "ranges" via the on-screen text.
Notewire

Sir,
Thank you for your time and your reply. I will continue manual targeting and hunting with No Map Contacts, as I search for challenge and realism to the utmost.
Having been playing on real time for years with your mods, I would love the opportunity to say that I admire your work greatly.
I am not sure yet how the Radio Direction Finding that helped my 1940's compatriates find targets is incorporated into the game - but I hope to find out. I would love to see that incorporated in a similiar manner to the Hydrophone lines - radio bearing, not sure of the range kind of deal.
Just my two cents - didn't really notice until your beautiful spinning RDF appeared on my Type II in January of 1940.
Thanks Sir, for everything,

Ref will have to take the bow for fixing/adding the RDF loop and the external moving KDB hydrophone, and the mattress radar antenna, and the Type IX cable fixes... (Ref is realllly good!!!:yep: )
Unfortunately, RDF appears to be completely non-functional in-game and remains a stock SH3 omission.

It is my understanding that SH3 will work on Vista... but there is naturally a knob that you will need to jiggle somewhere... I don't have that info as I still use Windows XP.
I'm sure someone will help you though. If you don't get a response here... just post over in the regular SH3 forum... and you should get pretty quick answers.

okay thanks, another question, i like to view my sub when submerged i got a feeling i wont be able to do this with the mod - meaning be very dark to see it for realism. So can i use SH3 commander 2.6 or 2.7 to change this or will their be an option in GWX menu?
Downloading GWX now... I can feel myself becoming excited I think i better go feed the cat now.. :rotfl:

I've just found a submerged s-class sub in a convoy.....(see also screenshot thread)
I thought I read in this thread (or maybe BBW told me in the whaling ship thread) that they didn't submerge....it was running diesels by the sound, or making a lot of noise going 7kts on electrics, they're one tough sub by the way, I torpedoed one in the Med and it just wouldn't sink from the one fish (weather too bad for deckgun)
Anyway, another nice surprise from GWX
also made my first ever 100k patrol by sinking HMS King George V and HMS Prince of Wales, both with 2 magnetic fish right underneath the A turret and engines, after several failed attempts at those (and other) BBs in other careers I finally bagged 'em and 2 in the same taskforce too
however, both Brag and I have now heavily abused this particular taskforce going from Scapa Flow around Ireland to Gibraltar in '40 and '41 perhaps it should have a less predictable route in version 1.04 because it always gets reported leaving Scapa, and then it's just waiting for them southwest of ireland, hoping for decent weather and BAM another BB down to the deeps. which is funny once or twice but gets unrealistic the third time....:-?

also made my first ever 100k patrol by sinking HMS King George V and HMS Prince of Wales, both with 2 magnetic fish right underneath the A turret and engines, after several failed attempts at those (and other) BBs in other careers I finally bagged 'em and 2 in the same taskforce too
however, both Brag and I have now heavily abused this particular taskforce going from Scapa Flow around Ireland to Gibraltar in '40 and '41 perhaps it should have a less predictable route in version 1.04 because it always gets reported leaving Scapa, and then it's just waiting for them southwest of ireland, hoping for decent weather and BAM another BB down to the deeps. which is funny once or twice but gets unrealistic the third time....:-?
Will do what we can to toughen the task force or reduce its spawn percentage.
AI subs will sink with one torpedo hit... but just take forever.

okay thanks, another question, i like to view my sub when submerged i got a feeling i wont be able to do this with the mod - meaning be very dark to see it for realism. So can i use SH3 commander 2.6 or 2.7 to change this or will their be an option in GWX menu?
Downloading GWX now... I can feel myself becoming excited I think i better go feed the cat now.. :rotfl:
TIA
Edit: why am i just now starting GWX, well one i just got broadband a few weeks ago and 2) ive been playing SH4 since it came out, thought for a bit of atlantic fix i'll try out this GWX.
SH3 Cmdr has water clarity settings from 1-20. 18 is approx equivelant of stock :arrgh!:

Okay thanks guys,
Installed SH3 on Vista and GWX without any problems,
SH3, SF update, Patch 1.4b, GWX, GWX1.03, SH3 Cdr 2.7 & update.
I like what i saw in GWX, to much to mention, the new mouse menus, sub detail, oh and i must remeber to check my fuel! First career, in a type IIA 1939 patrol in AF area, rough seas sub rolls more realistically, felt a bit seasick:lol:, after i patroled my grid for 24 hrs i tried to head to the new sub port i spotted on the map near the scarpa flow area islands just to the right (can't remeber name) but fuel was getting low so headed back to kiel. Will try on the next patrol. Those new enemy ports i see are like magnets - i just have to go and check them out! Better be careful tho.:arrgh!: GWX is very nice indeed:rock:
Anyways im off on another patrol:up:

I've just found a submerged s-class sub in a convoy.....(see also screenshot thread)
I thought I read in this thread (or maybe BBW told me in the whaling ship thread) that they didn't submerge....:-?
No they dont submerge
There are 2 versions of the S class
One always surfaced
One always submerged
What I meant was the surfaced one wont submerge
Or the submerged one surface for that matter

Hello,
I have just installed the GWX Mod and are not able to load my former Basis-savegame.
I had SH3 with Patch 1.4b installed and a running carreer.
I installed the GWX Mod followed by GWX patch 1.03.
When i try to load my Basis-savegame i get the message:
New Basis Kiel. (actual Basis is Brest)
In the messagewindow i can click on the OK button.
Thats it. The Game freezes at this point.
I can start a new Carreer, but i prefer to continue my my old Carreer.
Did someone have an idea, how i can load my old savegame?
By the way, this GWX-Mod is very good. It lift sh3 to a great level.
Thank you

Hi everybody,
I have just downloaded and installed GWX expansion and it is just awesome. The only thing that I miss from the original SH3 is the in-game music, which has been removed from GWX. I have the original music files (.ogg files) in "music"-folder. Is there any (easy) way I could get the music back?
Would it be possible to get a new mod that would allow the in-game music? I think it would be good to have that option as there might be some players, like me, who just happen to like the original in-game music.
I just don't want to listen to "Lili Marlene" from the gramophone while I'm hunting ships. :D
just place them in your sounds/gramophone folder and delete the ones you don't want to use:)

That's normal. Since the career data has been changed significantly by GWX, SH3 will most likely not be able to load your old career. Sorry mate. That's mentioned in the GWX manual, though.

Just being curious. How do you come by that nickname? One male and one female name together? The only version I know of a male and female name being used is with "Maria", like in writer "Rainer-Maria Rilke"

just place them in your sounds/gramophone folder and delete the ones you don't want to use:)
But that is not the same thing, is it? In the original SH3, the background music changed according to the situation (e.g. "tension music" would play when you are hiding submerged and "battle music" would play when you attack, etc.). If I just put them in the gramophone folder, they would not change automatically. That would not create the same atmosphere since those music files would be played "randomly" (or in the order they are placed in the folder) instead of them automatically changing according to game events.
So is it possible to make the music play as in the original SH3?

The problem regarding music in SH3 is that when you turn off the in-game music... it also turns off the menu screen music as well. GWX by default, adds a file that turns off the constant... always there... never goes away... in game music without killing the menu music.
The reason why we did that was to allow the player to hear everything going on around them... much is lost under the music.
If you want to return the in-game music back to situational play... just replace your "Music.Cfg" file in SilentHunterIII/data/Sound/Music folder with a stock SH3 1.4b Music.Cfg file.
OR
Open the Music.Cfg file with Notepad and delete the semi-colons ONLY from the following lines:

Mein Kapitan,
Thank you for your earlier response on radio contacts. I am currently playing with "no map contacts" and very happily checking with my Radio Man when I do my hourly "stop and listen" checks while hunting.
I simply climb down to the ladder during our dive to listen drill, head to the radio room, and ask the radio man if he has any contacts - and he reports the direction and approximate distance of the last reported contact.
To my question. When discussing this with you (and reading the manual) you have made it clear that the contacts reported (by BdU, radio, aircraft, or otherwise) was set to 5% of the stock game.
I would like to explore either randomization of this 5%, or adjusting it based on year of the war - using JSCones invaluable toolkit - does anybody know where to get at that 5% setting, or (as is usually the case) is it more complicated than that and not easy to adjust?
Sir, thanks again for all your hard work, if you answer me within 48 hours I will know you aren't getting enough family time.
Gut Jagd,
Notewire.

Question Concerning Malta:
I've been sailing the med with GWX for about 6 in game months now and I've really noticed the sheer horrible amount of planes flying out of the Malta Airfield between late 41 and september 42.
Imo, there's just too many and too many types for historical accuracy, in september of 42 for example, the battle of el Alamein is going on, this is the point where the allies do not have air superiority in the area between north africa and Italy, so it'd be unlikely for Wellingtons, Sunderlands and Catalinas to fly out of Malta (apart form the airfield being a bit small)
I don't know how tweakable airbases are in how many and which types of planes fly from them but I'd like to suggest downtuning the airbase at Malta somewhat until january of 43 when the Torch landings have taken place and the Afrika Korps is in retreat, as well as the whole American airforce helping out towards air superiority.
just my 2 cents, hope you'll be able to do something with it....

Ahoy Kaleuns,
I've got a minor suggestion:
On my first patrol in SH3 + GWX 1.03, in 1939, I left Wilhelmshaven and found a docking Tirpitz Battleship there. The Tirpitz shouldn't appear before 1941, so maybe someone should correct its appearance date in the next update.
Is GWX slowing down everyone's computer? My P4 2,4 GHz 1024 MB RAM Geforce FX 5200 256 MB was playing stock SH3 without problems, but now the external camera is really slow, even in 1x speed.

Just one thing to consider when talking about Malta. Although the island is rather small (only 23 km in lenght) it had 5 airfields in WW2 (Luqa, Hal Far, Qrendi, Safi and Ta'Qali) as well as a sea plane station in Kalafrana Bay. Having visited the island it is hard to image, but it must have been crawling with British troups and aircraft during the war. BTW the neigboring island of Gozo also had an airfield.
Apart from the airfield at Luqa which now is the international airport, all other airfields were closed but on my visit in 2000 I could make out many traces. Hal Far still exists but is now an industrial complex where one runway was converted into a road and the second one into a dragstrip. You can also make out the runways of Qrendi which are located southwest of Luca and now also serve as a normal roads. Ta'Qali runway was also converted into a normal road and parking space with several roundabouts surrounded by a park, a stadium and IIRC an open air theater. Safi was simply integrated into Luqa airport since they were close together and the runways flushed exactly. So the long runway of Luqa airport actually was two runways on two different airfields :)

As many of you already know the Community manual has been restored and back on-line. It needs a presentation - information page for GWX in the Mods (http://www.mysh3.info/shiii/index.php/Mods) section. I am looking for a few dedicated GWX players or modders to volunteer and help create the page.
Interested? You'll need an account to log on as annon edits have been disabled to help prevent abuse/spam. You should also be familiar with some wiki mark-up, peice of cake. There is a template there, but for a super-mod of this scale feel free to be creative.

I just installed the mod, and realized bit too late that I also had the Harbour Traffic 1.45 mod AND only had the October (2005) release of Commander. As one might predict, that probably caused my first CTD. So, just asking for clearification now, in which order to do the whole thing:
Uninstall SH3 Commander.
Re-install (with or without UNinstall?) the GWX mod.
Use JSGM to install Traffic Mod.
Install Commander.
Update Commander with the 4 special files.
D...done?

Uninstall SH3commander then install the new 2.7 version plus cfg files and try again with a new career
If that doesnt work a new fresh install may be needed
You dont need the Traffic mod afterward
Probably isnt compatable with GWX anyway
And did you install GWX 1.03 as well ?

This is the error message that I am getting:
AppName: sh3.exe AppVer: 1.4.0.1 ModName: sh3sim.act
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 0000de74
It seems to happen whenever a ship hits another with its guns. While of course very appreciative of all the hundreds, more likely thousands of hours put into GWX, I am quite bothered with how no mods (for any games) have the extremely fancy "Install" button which limits the install to that; the one click of a button, no matter what happened before. I think it is to do with the games themselves, but can't say for sure (since in OFP, mods were as easy to install as anything else).

It would be less painfull for you if you do a fresh install of SH3, patch it to v1.4 and then install GWX (and GWX patch 1.3). And then you can mod your game, ofcourse carefully (ie. it seems Harbor traffic mod isnt compatible with GWX). Im sure that GWX installed on fresh SH3 1.4b wont CTD...

Yep, which is why in GWX the watch crew on the bridge fatigues much more rapidly in a storm.
Read page 31-32 of the GWX manual for further details.:yep:
That being said... fatigue rates in GWX do not account for Bernard untying your hammock.
Tiny bit from page 31 of the GWX manual:
"The length of an historical U-boat crewmember’s watch ranged from four to eight hours depending on the duty watch position:
• The typical watch cycle for the bridge officer and lookouts was usually four hours on the bridge as lookouts; four hours performing maintenance and other duties; eight hours of Commander’s Time, and eight hours off duty.
• Radio operators, sound gear operators, torpedo room crews, helmsmen, and officers generally had eight hours on duty, eight hours of Commander’s Time, and eight hours off duty.
• The engine room crew had six hours on duty and six hours off duty, which resulted in more on-duty hours in a high-stress environment in return for serving no duty as exposed bridge lookouts14"

I would like to thank all GWX Development Team for a really awesome job done. And what I like most in GWX - is that it's obviously done with great love to Naval History.Just superb, amazing, breathtaking.:D

Alrighty then.
I was just thinking users browsing the manual might want an overview and some reference links. And since the manual is a wiki not a forum the information (sections/pages) could be interlinked and stay put. Certain pages could be 'protected' as well.

Well,well,well...all over the Subsim.com kaleuns are already talking about the "Secret weapon of the Third Reich" - GWX v.1.04.And best mod-makers of all
ages continue to keep silence.
What is this mystery called GWX 1.04 going to be?A huge patch of over 100 MB or totally new set of .BIN files and when may we expect it to be released? :)

P.S. The only thing I would prefer is that system requirements of GWX 1.04 would be more or less at the same level of GWX 1.03 unless my lappy will have difficulties...
My congrats on the patch and the excellent manual that goes with it!
I actually work in the world of gaming manuals for Microsoft PC and XBox games and I have to say the Grey Wolves manual is excellent, clear, concise and not overly complicated for greenhorns.

That is ALWAYS one of the foremost things in any of the devs minds when adding content.
GWX has been deliberately developed in such a way that it will use the same resources as stock SH3 would. Infact, there have been instances where GWX has used less resources and has demonstrated faster performance.

That would be great!GWX v.1.03 improves framerate on my laptop (Fujitsu Siemens AMILO A1650G,AMD Sempron 3300+,1024MB DDR 333 Mhz,ATI Radeon Xpress 128MB on-board) and game runs more smooth then stock version. It's very pleasant also, that if even there is some lagging, for example in ports - those laggs do not spoil the gameplay and the game is still quite playable. And it's even more pleasant that I can keep GWX up to the highest graphics settings and admire all those amazing views.
I expect the same performance from the further GWX versions until I will be a able to get a brand new PC (already desktop probably). And I believe that great GWX developers will make all our dreams come true. :)

Question:
When do the escorts start to get good at hunting U-Boats? So far, late 1940, I'm still running rings round them, as it were. Not that they are easy now, by any stretch of the imagination! God! They test me now, but, I mean... when do they really get beyond what they are now.

You should begin to see a shift in the second half of 1942 that gets progressively tougher. (at least inasfar as we could make it)
(very generally speaking)
1941- Armed merchants begin to proliferate
1942- Allied sensors really begin to get better... increase in air patrols
1943- Allied air coverage intensified greatly
1944-1945- ... Just come back alive sailor!
BBW can comment better on specifics concerning crew qualities and introduction of hunter-killer groups etc... From the beginning, we've always kept an eye to the progression of "intensity" throughout the war to mirror history as best we can within SH3.... Pretty cool stuff. I wish I had the foresight to record some of our teamspeak conversations.... so much ground has been covered.
Sorry for the ramble, I hope I answered your question.
bigboywooly
06-08-07, 09:48 PM
Hunter killer groups begin in late 42 as was the case
Old 4 stacker DDs and a CVE to begin with till the later DE came out which replaced them
You will also see an increase in the number of escorts as war progressed as well as the crew level increasing

The good thing with GWX is that there is a gradual change in the DDs capability to kill you. That way you evolve (as a player) with the game

Guys, are contact reports of convoy sightings sometimes wrong?
bigboywooly
06-09-07, 05:25 PM
Not if they are generated on the game map automatically
But you have to remember that convoys have built in course changes
If the convoy shows on the navmap near the end of a course leg then alters course port\starboard after appearing on the map then your guesswork of its intended position may be many Km out

A suggestion:
Hi fellers, I have a suggestion to make for GWX 1.04
Now, it occurs to me, that the hull while submerged makes a heck of a noise, I think its a bit too noisy when you are in the green area of the depth guage, I mean, I was at 20m yesterday and the noise it made, you'd think someone was banging the outside with a hammer! Just the usual noise. it makes when you are shallow, you must knwo the one I mean.
Is there any chance I could be so bold as to ask is there something you could do to make this better? The yellow and red sound effects are fine, I mean you are deep, creaking hull and thuds is expected but, I think the boat is too noisy when in the green.
Just my thoughts, and I've had em a while.

It is very good comparison. I think its too loud and thats why the first thing im doing after installing/reinstalling sh3/gwx is changing creaks.wavs to stock ones or im mixing it with creaks sounds from other mods (WAC and/or Venatores). You can do this - or wait for gwx 104...

I would *really* appreciate if the hydrophone stuff from Raduz and greyrider and Nautilus would be compatible with 1.04
Raduz made a 1.03 speed chart but it's not working with 1.03 unless the original sound files are copied over the 1.03 files.
Also it would be pretty cool to have all their hydro charts in the game!
Any way I appreciate every effort put in GWX 1.04!

This might help you. Pay attention to the removal of residual files.............
'Test 5 = FAILED - <32 char string>' means that the SH3 installation that you selected to install GWX into has been modified sufficiently to impact the installation of GWX. In other words, it's not a CLEAN, UNMODIFIED installation of Silent Hunter III patched to Version 1.4b as expected.
Have you modded the installation at all? If it's a new installation, did you *fully* remove the residual files before re-installing SH3?
Please note that this error is from a report generated by the GWX installer (GWXInstErr.log). IT IS NOT INDICATIVE OF ANY FILE CORRUPTION! The five PASSED/FAILED values are simply the result of tests undertaken to determine the validity of the selected installation of SH3. Any FAILED results means that the SH3 installation is not valid.
Corrupt files are determined by using MD5Mate which will provide a visual indication via ticks and crosses as to the integrity of the d/l files. A totally different process. ;)
Here is the suggested process for installing a default version of GWX...........
Basic Install of GWX
1) Uninstall SH3 via Windows' "Add/Remove programs"
2) Open Windows Explorer and:
- *delete* the folder where you had installed SH3
- *delete* the \My Documents\SH3 folder
3) Reinstall SH3
4) If your SH3 did not come with patch v1.4b already included, install patch v1.4b. Ensure you install the patch that corresponds to your copy of SH3 (Download/DVD/EMEA/US)
5) OPTIONAL: Copy and paste this "clean" install as a backup to avoid the need to follow steps 1-3 if your game becomes corrupt in future
6) Visit the GWX homepage (http://www.users.on.net/%7Ejscones/GWX/index.html) and download into the SAME folder GWX.exe and the five .bin files. While there grab the v1.03 patch
7) Run GWX.exe and follow the installation prompts
8. Run GWX103.exe and follow the installation prompts
9) SH3 COMMANDER USERS: Visit the GWX homepage (http://www.users.on.net/%7Ejscones/GWX/index.html) and download the GWX 1.02+ Cfg files for SH3 Commander and unzip the contents DIRECTLY into your SH3 Commander\Cfg folder.
I hope this helps you to get up & running.

Aye, sir. It's the only shell icon there; clicking on it only appeared to "highlight" it for the click duration, but beyond that, nil.
Weapons officer reports a full load of shells for both the DG and the flak, and the flak DOES have it's complement of shells loaded and available, but the DG reads 0 in the breech and 0 available.
No edits or changes made, I'm running stock GWX/SHIII with the most recent SH3 Commander, reload times at "normal" (ie: the reload times checkboxes are blank).

UPDATE: Did not have to perform a full uninstall/reinstall. Went back into the game, loaded the Naval Artillery training op, and waited... after loading, I probably waited a good two or three minutes for the disk drive to settle down. Once I did, I crewed the deck gun, selected the HE shell, and instead of the 0 0 I was getting, I got the loading progress bar and 260 shells available number.
Looks like it was another low RAM issue; waiting until the load is fully established seemed to help.
