Just got a new laptop with Windows 8 and the first thing I wanted was Silent Hunter 3 GWX Gold. Imagine my horror when I discovered that the mods' bin files are not open-able. Don't have the know how to get round it myself. Anyone else had similar problem or tackled this before? GWX is simply the best!
I think it's with regard to file permissions in Windows 8 (I'm using Windows 8.1 BTW). I've set "Full Control" for "Everyone" on my SH3 installation. One note is that I'm running SH3+GWX3 in "Windows 7 Compatibility mode". :arrgh!:

Noooooo....don't unzip anything. Put the seven bins plus the exe file into a new folder on your desktop and double click on the exe and follow the prompts.

I'm so happy, 2 years ago i tried to run SHIII+GWIII on my mac mini intel HD4000 but it was unplayable because there was so much graphic glitches. :/\\!!
Finally I found a way yesterday... crying like a baby would :wah: :D

(Sorry, but discussions of torrents and links to torrents are absolutely not allowed at Subsim - Sailor Steve)

(Didn't know that official torrents weren't allowed... my fault - Franctireur)

It's alright. Franctireur and I had a nice discussion and all is good. I didn't even notice that his link was to GWX's official site, so I apologize as well and here's a free re-link.

Hi everyone, my first post here. Man this site is huge - took me a while to figure where I should post this.

I have played and beaten Sea Dogs and SH II back in the day, and now I am playing SH III with Grey Wolves installed. It seems like a great game - I really am impressed by all of the hard work and dedication that must have gone into making this. Total respect for all of the modders. :salute:

Here are my questions.

1. When I was visiting the museum, I noticed a fair number of ships have their turrets missing. The most obvious is the German warship Tirpitz, but there are a fair number of other ships (mostly armed merchants) that this glitch applies to as well. My question is, is this something I should be concerned about? That is, will the turrets on these vessels show up while I'm at sea? Or do I have to live with it? Does it affect their ability to attack?

2. I'm not sure if this one is because of the 'enhanced damage mod' or if it's been hard-coded into the game, but after nearly every aerial attack - if I am damaged by bombs or aircraft cannons - any dive results in an uncontrolled dive. I can usually go to flank and use the 'surface the boat' command to stay stable, but only at flank speed. If I slow down (because I'm trying to stay quiet), the boat begins to sink like a stone. Below about 200m, only by blowing ballast can I come up again.

My guess is someone was trying to simulate a ruptured pressure hull, which is pretty neat. However, it also means the entire mission is now over, since remaining at periscope depth is now impossible.

My main question therefore is; is there any way to remove this 'can't dive till your patrol is over' effect? I wasn't sure if it was the enhanced damage mod or it's from the basic game. (or maybe I'm just being a wuss and I should accept that pressure hull breaches are a real thing?)

P.S. Going to a friendly port that is not your home base will fix the hull integrity (percentage of damage), but NOT the pressure hull (you still can't dive till you return to home base to end your patrol). Shouldn't this be changed?

3. On the crew maintenance/damage control screen, the new blue-colored background makes it almost impossible to see / read the crewman's name and other details for the selected crewman, as the black letters don't stand out against the dark blue background. What's the way to fix this? Maybe there is a graphics file somewhere I could get from someone to lighten this background, OR make the crewman details (name, etc) white in color?

4. The manual is huge and richly detailed. I love it. However, there is a section in there about ports (enemy and friendly) that show mines outside the harbor. Since mines have no friends, I am terrified that I will hit a mine in a friendly port and my career will be over. Could someone explain how these mines work? Can they be spotted beforehand? How much damage do they do? Will my helmsman notify me I have entered a minefield? Can I avoid mines if I am careful?

5. Last but not least. There are a huge number of bubbles that rise from the sub when submerged. Not only can I not see though the front or back of my sub (with the periscope) through all the bubbles, but it's also causing me a lot of lag. Is there an easy way to restore the stock SH III submerged bubbles while keeping the rest of Grey Wolves intact?

Well anyway, thanks in advance for any advice you can give. I am having fun with this game (and this mod), and plan to move on to a lot of other sea-based games eventually.

Take care.

Hello, any hope for refreshed GWX in 1920x1080 resolution ?
It would be great...
Actually there is no alternative for old SH3. SH Online is poor, HAHD/ATWAR has uncertain future. SH IV and V even modded can't be compared with SH3.

Have you ever tried the Hi Res Fix?

I have never ran at those resolutions, but have used some of the WideScreen Mods that run at higher resolutions.

Yes, i play with the MaGUI widescreen mod. Pretty nice, but on 22' screen it doesn't look great.
I only asked for attempt of giving new life to GWX3. Unfortunatelly i'm not modder, or programist and don't know how to do it :).
It's possible , that in the short time we won't have good U-boat simulator.
I love that open campaign mode in SH3, without stupid scripted missions.

Ships only show those if the year has them. You may want to look at the later years while in Museum.

Below about 200m, only by blowing ballast can I come up again. You didn't crash dive did you? There are known issues with that. Also. In real life they found out it was a pretty stupid idea not to dive! So dive when you spot an aircraft!

And NO the crew won't tell you. Use the maps.

Thanks for the reply privateer, but

Regarding uncontrolled dives; what I really wanted to know was, if any of YOU had trouble with your sub having a pressure hull breach (that's what I call it) after being damaged (which again, always seems to happen after an air attack that causes damage). I just wanted to know if it's something caused by a mod, or if it is hard-coded. I just didn't like to have to quit a patrol and return home all because an enemy plane strafed my sub. Note that this issue can also happen while being shot by ships while surfaced, but that sort of attack inflicts much more damage, so it's understandable.

And no, I did not crash dive - please re-read my original post - if I am less than flank speed while being submerged, I sink like a stone.

Regarding 'use USD to remove bubble nodes' - I'm not sure what this is - could someone please explain?

Regarding crew maintenance background - I would most likely need the original background for stock SH III - I'm not sure the name of the file though.

Regarding mines - so I'm going to have to alt-tab out to check my harbor maps every time i wish to enter a harbor...in order to avoid mines? Kinda frustrating, but I guess in a way realistic. But I wish that *friendly* ports had the mine locations already marked on the world map, at least. That would be realistic as well as convenient. :yep:

Again, thanks in advance for any advice.

No. Go to the NavMap (F5) screen. In the upper left corner you'll find a set of pull-down charts. One of them contains small maps of all the harbors, with subnets and minefields.

Second, if you wait for the escort and follow him he will guide you safely through the harbor.

Also if you are within a 25 KM radius of the harbor you can dock. Sometimes thats at the fringes of the subnets and mines.

johnboy47
03-23-14, 06:25 PM
Thanks for the replies fellas.

I was unaware of the pull down maps.

I'm going to try something drastic; I had installed a few non-Grey wolves mods and i suspect that might be my problem. Like an idiot, I didn't back up my originals.

So I will uninstall GW, then SH III, then reinstall SH III and then reinstall GW. Will start up my latest mission and sink to the bottom, taking a bit of damage upon touching the sand. If I can rise to the surface again after taking some damage, I figure I'm ok. And I won't install any non-grey wolves mods.

(clarification; I just did a little experiment about an hour ago in a brand new mission where I sank to the bottom (50 meters at that location) and took just a tiny bit of damage. I was unable to rise without blowing ballast twice, and was unable to dive theraafter - so apparently this 'sinking bug' isn't just concerning aircraft, as I originally thought. I'll post what the results are after I reinstall everything)

It would still be nice to get a lighter background for the crew / damage control screen, but I found to my relief that i could turn my monitor brightness / contrast all the way up, and I could see through my periscope while underwater. The bubbles are excessive IMO, but I can see, and that's all I care about at this point.

Take care.

I just wanted to mention that the weird sinking behavior and flickering lights glitch in my subs has disappeared. I simply uninstalled SH III and reinstalled, and reinstalled GW3. no other mods installed (and that is what my problem was before). So relieved everything is working okay.

I was curious about one thing though. :hmm2:

These mines and submarine nets; do they have a graphic? That is, can you actually see them if you get close enough? If so, could you describe what they look like?

Checked out the sheets that you click-and-hold to view. Didn't even know about those. Really neat. Also viewed the friendly port sheet that shows the locations of mines and submarine nets. Very nice. Excellent mod.

Thanks for the advice and screenshots guys. Those are indeed some scary looking mines - realistic and well-detailed. :yep:

Last night, I hit a submarine net while surfaced (on purpose too - was kinda curious what would happen). I think I just took a small amount of damage, not sure. I apparently passed right over it (my speed didn't drop, but I heard a bang, and my crew said we're taking damage). I tried to circle back around to look at it, this time submerged, but got worried I'd take more damage, and resumed course.

Nice to see all the dials working too. I also like the more realistic clouds. I think my favorite change is all the new ship models and types.

Take care.

Trying to install GWX 3.0, but it won't install. It detects my clean install of SH3 from Gamefront as a modded game. It is 1.4.0.1 as opposed to 1.4b. Patches from Ubisoft will also not install as they detect this as a newer verson. Is there any workaround? (I soo miss my subsim!)

Erm, 1.4.0.1 is the product version number of what Ubisoft calls SH3 v1.4b. You have it. I have it. We all have it. Patches from Ubi won't install because it is already patched to the latest version. If anything besides the Ubi v2.4b patcher won't run on it, then there may be something wrong with your installation.

I know that GWX works just fine with 1.4.0.1 if you download GWX from here http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=3890 or from here http://www.thegreywolves.com/downloads/. h.sie's and Stiebler's patchers both work AOK with 1.4.0.1 also.

Hi fellas,

I am having an issue in SHIII with my game not loading - my only mod is Grey wolves, and I was surfaced (but rough seas) when I last saved. I'm fairly close to an enemy port, and have just taken out a fair number of enemy ships (25,000 tons).

Keep in mind this is the second time this happened on this mission. The first time I saved when at periscope depth, rough seas, and pouring rain. The date is early Nov. 1942.

Since part of 'Operation Torch' is scripted (and in progress in early Nov. '42), could it be some kind of big RAM requirement that is causing my game to not load? The main thing is not that it won't load, it's that I have no idea why..so it's likely to keep happening.

Do any of you ever have problems with games not loading? If so, what was your workaround? BTW, I have played maybe ten missions prior to this with no loading problems - including those where I saved while submerged. Perhaps my problem is my old computer doesn't have enough RAM? I have 2gb, a 256 vid card, and a 2.5 gm processor.

Apart from this issue, I've been having a lot of fun with SHIII/Grey Wolves.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

If you save within 50 miles of a enemy base you run the chance of getting a CTD the next time you load that saved mission. I think your only choice is going to be to restart the mission from your home port. Sorry to be the messenger of bad news brother. :hmmm:

Hello I am the Admin of the Steel Sharks and several of my members
who sailed out of the 7th Flotilla keep getting radio messages saying
the base has now been changed to Kiel. This happens over
and over and over again like every min. So one of my members went looking and
found that the problem has to do with the English Nav and Grid Refs mod.
So when you sail out of port on Sept. 1 1939 the message starts. It
will stop in Oct. I am told. This is only in the 7th Flotilla not the 2nd
Flotilla or the 1st Flotilla.

Thanks

I also get the 'base changed to kiel' message when I load a game. I simply press the pop up about 20 times quickly to make it go away. Never caused any other problems.

That should be correct. The 1st is based out of Kiel from the start and the 2nd is at Wilhelmshaven. As for the message repeating constantly, I've never had that happen, but there have been other members who have reported the same problem. I don't know if there's a solution or not. Sorry.

I'm not sure why GWX put the 7th where they did. According to what I can find they were based at Kiel since June 1938.

In the GWX-English Nav Maps and Grid Refs; data/Cfg/Flotilla the end date for Konigsberg is 9/39 and the start date for Kiel is 9/39. Change the end date to 8 and it works no problem.

As first I want to say hello to my old friends from GWX team, I was really enjoyed to be a part of a testing crew. Many years I was away from SH3 and now I'm back. With a week or two of testing different mods now I'm ready to sail. I prefer the realistic way of playing. This game is a U-boat simulation at the first place. H.sie and Stiebler's patches are must with all options checked, especially torpedo faulure fix which simulate torpedo mistakes at the beginning of the war... Also a Hitman GUI is really a must. A couple of additional mods and that's it. I was tried and NYGM mod the newest version, very much like a smoke for ships, MEP is a also great addition in combination with it, but I don't have a feeling which I have with GWX. After all I'm glad to be a GWX user. Will try and WAC maybe, but it's time for enjoying with GWX. Going to sink something. :)

Hi fellas, question here.

I just installed GWX on my new computer. I've decided to live with the stretched-screen as my new wide-screen monitor stretches things to widescreen (beyond my control). At least things are easier to see with the screen being so big.

However, there is another problem you guys might be able to help me with.

All ships in the game (not planes) and the 'flaggen' flag identifier pullout (just the pullout tab, not the whole page) are in French! It's the same way in the museum too.

Any clues on what to do? I have set my keyboard and text language to english, my spoken language to german (for realism). I have no idea what could be causing this.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

P.S. Like I said, this is on a brand-new install on a new machine. Except for the language issue, everything is perfect.

P.S. Like I said, this is on a brand-new install on a new machine. Except for the language issue, everything is perfect.

Any chance you've enabled the 'French fix' mod?

There are a number of mods that come with GWX that should not be used unless you specifically need them: GWX - Alternative Flotillas, GWX - Black Sea Campaign Files Only, GWX - Merged Campaign, GWX - Indian Ocean Campaign Files Only are just a couple of examples. GWX - Indian Ocean Campaign Files Only, for example, will remove all traffic from the North Sea and ATO - every ship and plane is gone. If you're starting a game in 1939, you don't want that!

It is a good idea to know what each mod is supposed to do before you activate it. (Otherwise, how will you know that it is working?) The GWX manual has well-written descriptions of each mod, including when - and when not - to use them.

Hi Fellas - you got me - that was the problem - I had fix french installed.

I had read the manual before regarding all of the new fixes, but getting my computer set up and everything...I basically rushed the installation and included that mod by mistake.

I'm now back on track - thanks for the tips.

Greetings- Well, I've been read through the GWX 3.0 Gold documentation, and also their reminder about the old "stock" damage control, and they state, that few merchant ships need more than one torpedo, and few ships need more than two at all.

Well, I dont mind playing hard, but:

Granville-type merchant:
------------------------
After two magnetic impact T I. hit, (both left really big holes under-and-on-the-side, one of them is 1.8 meter below, the other is 0.8 meter below draft) It continued its course, a little slower, zig-zagging. After many hours of waiting, almost a day, in max. CT, I.. er... Managed to loose it, as I stared too mutch to the ship from a closed by camera, and the U-boot drifted away.. After changing view back to the U-boot, I wasnt able to find the ship anymore XD still, it never sank.

SMALL merchant:
------------------
As It seemed to me, that impact damage somewhat more effective in GWX O_o than magnetic, I tried that:

Ive hit the small merchant in several reloads with one torpedo, and started to wait. I never acquired any critical hit, so I reloaded the game last time, and hit the ship near its bow. (between bow, and middle line) then I've waited for like almost a day, When I started to RAM it. (rough waters, no gun) I managed to ram it near diagonally on 13-15 knots, at least five times, near the hole on its forepart, and all the times pushed its bow below waterline, as my U-Boot was actually on top of it...

Still no success, and flooding seemed not to affect it. As the same with the Granville before. So I finished it off with a second torpedo. Small merchant: two torpedo at least. .. Granville: needed more than two... These are rather SMALL merchants...

Another funny thing, maybe because the engine feels it as an accident, as no shots was fired to it earlier, but I managed to ram into a ship, not longer than the U-boot, propably a really small merchant, which instantly started to sink.
Blown up, and sank. But no entry in the captain's log :D I presume if I could manage to hit it first even with a single AA shell, it logs it.

It was not that mutch smaller than the small Merchant, which withstanded 5-6 well developed ram, after a torpedo hit...

So: My question is: what happened? Why I cant finish off even a small ship with one torpedo UNDER THE KEEL? ^^ or Why a 4000-4500 ton merchant needs 3 torpedo? I experienced many cases like this, I just doesnt know how to kill in GWX... And many times you dont have this mutch of a time, and chance to sink something... In reality, even the biggest merchants sunk via 1 torpedo, or maximum two.

Wheres the flooding? No clue after many many hours...

Usually I fire under the keel (draft) from 0.8 to 1.8 meters when magnetic, and I fire above the keel with 2-3 meters when Impacting.

So I have been reading a bit on all the mods to try and pick one as I get back into SH-3 after long leave.

On GWX I read that the AI is not very historic or it is too "anti German/pro American."

I just want historic.

Can anyone comment on this for me before I commit to a mod?

Thanks you.

I'd love to know where you read that, because in all these years I've never seen it, or even heard of it. Some people feel that other mods are either more realistic, or better looking. I think GWX is the best balance between the two, but hardly "anti-German". I've enjoyed a great many hours playing it, and it's the one I always come back to.

Well... Have a look at this, and a load of other sinking reports on the site. 1500 ton ship hit by two torpedoes and took a couple of hours to sink:

http://www.uboat.net/allies/merchants/ships/1244.html

Sometimes the ships just wouldn't sink quickly, or even sink at all. The Royal Navy eventually sank some torpedoed and abandoned wrecks that would not sink otherwise, to avoid collisions on the busy sea lanes.

Theoretically magnetic shots under the keel should cause massive damage to even battle ships. GWX balances the thing nicely for a game, IMO. But you could try NYGM. I think flooding is modeled differently in that mod.

and as per GWX 3.0 the answer was that it has been outdated on its release day because it has been described to me as a rearrangement and fix of the old 2.1 version with the largest change being Jeff's new installer.
Can you tell us who described it that way? I ask because GWX4 was set aside for GWX3, and as I'm sure Jimbuna could tell you the changes were considerable.

Maybe the answers that I got came because I asked German guys back then. Many Germans used to be antagonists towards GWX, I believe.
This is the second time you've said that. Can you name these people? Can they speak here to verify what you say? If not, you should probably not refer to others to back up your claims when the others can't back it up for you. It's just talk.

There have been even battles about mods and this game in the past! Imagine that! Personal battles because of a game!! Incredible things have happened.
And those battles started because people were making different claims about the different mods. There was also a lot more involved that, if you can't tell us exactly what they were you shouldn't be bringing it up.

Oh yes, the GWX-AI has been discussed several times here on this forum, only two threads on this are these:
And one of the original selling points of GWX was that its AI was easier than NYGM's.

I was wondering does GWX 3 gold contain modifications that allows world and kriegsmarines news to show up on the patrol orders screen that you view immediately before beginning your patrol? If not is there a mod that does as such, because i see it on lets plays and i would really like that sort of immersion rather than mindlessly go on a patrol without knowing how the war is going etc.

Well, now I have two cases to discuss, so lets split them:

1.: back to the merchant sinking anomaly:

I finished two patrols since, and refined my theoretic problem:

I can't say, that in -any- cases (Not a single one. Im not kidding. no wonder, that I love this mod XD) the damage, or flooding, or regained/continued buoyancy is -unrealistic-. I can see what went wrong, or what's the wounded ship's advantages in every cases.

All matches the historic cases that you wrote.

the problem is this:

In the real world, these events, or EVEN a case, when a single, non armored merchant survived one well placed hit, in middle, under the waterline, 90 degrees, deep penetration, without slow flooding, or without an instant collapse, was -very rare-.

Rare.

So to speak, one occasions out from 10-15.
In GWX 3.0 gold, these inpropable events with certain merchant ship classes are one out of every three....

Actually, you have a feeling, that you have mutch more chance NOT to sink a medium merchant with one torpedo, not even with a day of flooding, (as in most cases they don't even slow down, so after half a day you can't even follow them) or NOT to sink that medium merchant in a next few hours after TWO hits...

We speak about well placed impact hits, as I gave up on magnetic. I can score fine hits, right under the keel, BIG hole, but seems they upscaling the panzerschiffe' behaviour of merchants, compared to impacts.

So actually, the damage IS realistic, but hell of unpropable.

If I can sink certain "tricky" classes of a medium ship with 2, or God forbids, one torpedo, after half a day, I feel very lucky :D

To tell the truth, -flooding- is more dependable, than I first thought, but I have to remain in the vicinity, until it devours the ship, and sometimes that takes more than I can afford with battery.

Not to mention the countless cases, when a ship, with all its stern underwater, and 20 degrees tilted to one side, manages to carry on on full speed, and after half day, you give up ^^

O.K., to cut the whining, I started to get used to it.

I always loved GWX.

But still, it feels painful to read the Das Boot, or any novels, or any historic patrols where merchant ships was actually normally hit, and I need to double up the hit count, to match my patrols XD

Still, more than ten ships sunk in a patrol is quite well, and unrealistic.
Even with the Mighty Merchant types. But a man always complains about something that ruins the "perfect" thing he likes.

So, everything is in order, and as far as I can tell, very realistic with damage, just the propability turned upside down.

2.: Psychic destroyers

That's a way bigger problem. 1940, august, north of Scotland.
Convoy attack, boat is intact.
Ive spent like a hundred reloads, and a total real time day to this four nice gentlemen, one by one, so I tested this all around.

Nice attack, four destroyers, they doesn't realise a thing, until I hit.
Even then, they react slowly, and mix up my position. Veery good.
But: I surface, as I sank one destroyer, and all the others are very far, to finish off an almighty merchant, that doesnt even slow down after half a day, and with stern underwater: maximum speed, ahead. One destroyer slowly starts to be in range, it's hits are just missing the tower.

I destroy the target, and submerge. NOW comes the problem.
First I was thinking, that I started the 180 degrees turn too early, as the destroyer from 5000 meters turned towards me, (I was 50 meters deep) and after a chase, it finally pinged me.

Ok, several reloads, several escape attempts:
No matter when I turned, no matter where I started, the destroyer always -knew- where I am, from very far, no, not hydrophones, as we tried silent running, even full speed, THEN drifting motors stopped...

Second, and third destroyers, from very far, from a strange angle was able to catch up just like this, after I finished off one after another.

We talk about ONLY one destroyer at a time.

Every turn I made in silent running, was matched on the same seconds, from a very far distance. Then pinging, when they near.

OK, about the asdic: for starters: whenever I was able to not trick, but physically halt them with a wreck, (went under them so they have to painfully go around it) so they -did- lost me, and I was able to change course, and sneak away, they "felt" where to start, speed up, alter course, and find me again via asdic. Like I was -visible- all along, only underwater.
minimum speed, silent running. Various depths...

Second thing about the asdic: after hours of "not peeking", and only doing realistic maneuvers, u turns, playing with high speed, drifting, silent running,
I realised that the intervals between the asdic "finds" is very short. Maneuvers doesn't bother it all. Like I doesnt have the speed to get far enough even showing the smallest silhouette, AND switching to silent running, before they do a complete circle with the asdic... On that time my maximum speed was 7 knots, after some hours, 5.

Then I started to peek.

What I realised, is the field of the asdic is... Not what it needs to be.

If I saw the destroyer from 90 degrees, then they were LONG time pinging me... WITH THEIR SIDES XD

The only safe area was a cone around 30 degrees ON THEIR BACK.

Every time I left that area, and the destroyes started to show side, (stern is till mutch closer than bow) they found me with the ping.

Even in 50 meters. So thats the reason why I can't get far enough even on lowest silhouette, before they shoot a ping towards me...

I tried with all four destroyers. All the same. S&W's, AB and a Hunt I ? Sorry if I doesnt remember the names correctly.

Their only asdic free side was their BACK, in a very narrow cone.

But no problem, as they can find me even without asdic.

i remember my patrols also in GWX, like a month ago, it was hard to sneak away, but not this hard. I think something is amiss with either the convoy escorts, certain dest. types, or the fact that the game doesnt really like submerged reloads, for example the watch is always set -underwater-. If you reload.

The only time I was able to flee this four destoyers, when I was stop-1-knot-stopped my way (with peeking) right under a floating, stopped, sinking ship, and put myself right onto the bottom. Doesnt worked before, but these two factors, the bottom, and the wreck right on top of me, was enough. No, the destroyer doesn't lost me, he started to circle like a madman, and every time I moved a little, even without asdic, on the bottom, it altered course, so I backed up under the wreck.

After a few hours the "asdic can't find anything since hours" ingame script was kicked in, and the destroyer was ordered back to the convoy.

On my way back to the convoy I was able (by night) to roam towards it, from the semi back, and destroyed it with a surface artilerry attack. Strangely enough, we was the more precise.

So, any of you can tell me, why the destoyers always follow me, even from large distances, and why they have almost full circle asdic coverage, except the narrow back?

And if it's a bug, how can I evade it? I remember destroyers that I can trick in GWX, with the learned methods, and its still 1940, but late war destroyers just had a more wide asdic coverage, -forwards-, not an almost full circle...

Can you help me, how to avoid this?

Nobon
09-29-14, 03:15 PM
What I wrote is not very clear as I read it XD so I say again, there were always -one- destroyer on me. The others doesnt even bothered, was barely visible, 11k far at least. I think, early war convoy rules.

The many "their like this, they like that" is because I cant think about the destroyer, as a homogen enemy, but a vessel with lots of people, each on their stations.

Does anyone know why I can load a saved game before making enemy contact but after that all saved game loads lead to ctd?
Really weird!
Changed to Steam version after dark sky problem with disk and problems with windows 8 but this is a real headache having to leave the game running all the time with no game saves!
GWX gold and SH Commander installed.

Nobon
10-04-14, 05:11 AM
That's an old problem. When you near burning targets, or many ships, crowded harbor, the savegames just refuse to fit in the avaliable ram, and start to make ctd's. SOmetimes happen to high end pc users also, but more common with lower end machines, or with machines that running alot of debris programs in the background.

The only solution is to "reduce the pressure": close all unneccessary programs, set sh3.exe to "high" priority, and uninstall all mods you can afford.

After you loaded the savegame, you only need to finish the battle, sail away, and in a huge enough distance from any burning targets, (lets say 50 kilometers) save again. Then you can activate all of your mods, that savegame is going to work.

I dont know any other solution, and I live together with this problem, since I have a very limited system, so it's more common with me.

But make sure first, that you only run a skeleton windows XD eg.: closed all programs you can, and only run sh3.exe

As for the mods, SH commander I think doesn't make any difference. Just the mods you can activate, and deactivate in JSGME

I'm also using GWX, but I only deactivate the custom GWX content in JSGME, the main mod itself is integrated to SH3 folders.

steevo45
10-05-14, 12:41 AM
Thanks, I'll try prioritizing the SH3.exe.
Oh, forgot, also got the OLC Gold ALC Reloaded mods installed too, maybe part of the problem?

Nobon
10-06-14, 04:47 AM
Sadly, you have to try, that those mods is involved, or not. :( :)

The main "rule" is this: if you want to fix a save game, you need to deactivate the largest mods. You can test this, by deactivating and activating them again in JSGME, the ones that take more time to activate, are the biggest ones XD (you can also check their folder's size)

I use a good old priority system for that: I made a list, which mods I want to remain, while I continue a battle, and making other saves with "minimised resources", until I can sneak away in a safe distance, where I can create a save game that will load with all the mods. So to speak, 16km view distance, my "stock, rusty VIIB textures", Fm newinteriors 2.1, navy personnel skins, these ones -remain-. The newinteriors is a HUGE mod, but I doesn't wan't to get rid of it, even for finishing a battle, so I deactivate other mods.

You have to find the deadline, how mutch mods -your system- needs to shut off... :(

Popular mods to disable by users around is:
-GWX enhanced damage effects, !!!!
-New Merchant Skins, (huge texture packs, full scale reskins are the biggest)
-Any GWX side mods in JSGME, that you can live without while finishing a battle.
-GUI mods, (sometimes not very big, but it counts for my system, for some strange reasons, and also not a "lethal" cutback for a short time)

While you are "reduced", and able to load the "faulty savegames" (you -will- going to be able to load them, you just need to find out how mutch mods you need to shut off, results may be painful...) and you can continue the battle, UNTIL you are near burning ships, crowded harbor, or many ships, you can still save, but most propably you can only load it in this reduced state. If you finished what you want in this memory demanding area, and you sailed away for example to 50 kilometers, you can make the "safe" save, that will going to load in any case.

Things to keep in mind:

-Make a screenshot, write a txt, or a hand note about your -original- list of mods. You need this, to activate them back in a correct order, when you have your "safe" save.

-Then, when you found out, which mod's need to be deactivated to load the too big saves, make a list AGAIN. You shouldn't mix up the order... ^^ Every mod should be on the same place on these lists... Thats going to be your "reduced, temporary" list. You can switch to it anytime, if you know what mods to disable, and their order.

-On the future, you may encounter saves, that still "won't fit". Then you need to deactivate some more mods from the "reduced" list. That means that you doesn't found the "worst scenario" yet. But that only happened to me twice in two years.

TO AVOID THIS SITUATION for most of the times,
you can still make saves near a crowded area, or battle, for securitiy reasons, but try to solve the problem without reloading... And accept the realistic results, until you are able to crawl away XD and save there aswell. As the only time you HAVE to reload, is: death. Not counting the situation when you need to cut half a battle, and leave the computer. But sadly, this game needs time... If you know, theres a battle is coming, you need 2-3 free hours XD

Either this, or a nuclear power plant PC. Where you can STILL reach this situation, if you increase the number of mods... Or if you run many programs in the background.

For -ingame- ctd's (beside the memory manager programs) theres also some methods, mainly "discliplines", when to wait, instead of making another click, or when to stick to a lower time compression, until your system frees some resources, eg.: leaving behind some ship's that was near, but thats another topic.

Or did the files actualy disappear from the savegame folder in your Documents\SH3\Career folder. The first can happen but the last I have yet to hear about. Just rename the folder with your commander's name to something slightly different and it will show up again.

There I would suggest lies the root to the problem.

Enabling or disabling mods is generally likely to make previously saved games unloadable. You should never enable or disable any mods while in mid-patrol. Only change your active mod list when your last save was in-port. There are exceptions to this rule, but unless you know exactly what a mod changes and know that it will not cause trouble, it's a good rule to follow.

There are even a very few mods which can only be enabled or disabled at the start of a career. I only know of one, and it's for SH4, but there may be others. Certainly, swapping one supermod for another in mid-career is risky, even in port.

Only thing is, I noticed in this thread:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=2192012&postcount=4

One of the cons listed is that the AI is "way over the top" - are there any additional mods or ways to tone it down to whatever veteran players agree is a reasonable level?

Thank you!

Its a great mod, as are the others. Here is an older post regarding the GWX AI and some great tips on how to deal
with it:Ducimus Thread (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=104377)

Hopefully we will see Ducimus back at here in these forums sometime soon.

That's just his opinion. Most of us think the AI in GWX is just fine.

Awesome, thanks for the link to that thread and the responses! Looking forward to getting my ass kicked :D

One thing I noticed about this mod compared to the stock SHIII (I played a few academy missions before finding the mod) is that the interior of the command room is much more "crowded" with stuff, making it hard to see and click on some of the officers. I assume this is probably more historically accurate, but

I'm wondering if there are additional movement keys for moving around the sub besides the mouse that I'm missing? Or do you guys just use the keyboard shortcuts/officer icons on the bottom left?

That's one of the reasons I like GWX above the other supermods I've tried. The observation 'scope is where it actually was, and the big housing around the attack 'scope is also accurate. Yes, it was that crowded. While Das Boot is hardly a historical document, their Type VII interior was meticulously constructed. Just watch the movie again to see how crowded it really was.

I use Shift+F2 to move around, but when I want something done I just use the icons.

Supplement to V16B1 (JSGME)Not an expert, but if you want to use a "NewInterior" model for the submarine, it's more difficult to add something like "LifeBoats&Debris_v4" then. In fact, if you wish to see more visual effects when you attack a boat, it's better to remove the "NewInterior" mod.

I show you my own list for example:

NoIntro
German Hits (1910-1945)
RealDC_4
Das Boot Clothes
Karle's_Crash_Dive_Mod
New Uboat Guns 1.2
Bearded faces
...
Rbs1_SH4_Effects_GWX_30_71 (SH4 effects for SH3:better smoke, explosions, sounds, etc)
LifeBoats&Debris_v4
Rbs3withlifeboat (If you add this, Rbs1 & LifeBoats are compatible now)
...
b25_ConningTower_Mid
Racerboy_VIIc_SDDE_ADM_1_03_GWX
MaGui F
TorpedoSolutionButton for MaGui F
Supplement to V16B1
ManosEnvironmentPro v5
M.E.P v5- VisualSensors for GWX3

In fact, you have a simple rule to follow; the interior of the submarine OR the outside world.
And if you use the MaGui mod, do not add anyhting that may conflict with it after.
But maybe I'm mistaken... so if it's the case, well, I'm open to suggestions too.
And if I choose to do all "The Manual Tragetting" for torpedoes myself without the help of my weapons officer, my list would be different.
My list (suggestion) is not a masterpiece... a SOS if there's a genius around...

Hello everybody,

I'm your casual sh 3 gwx 3.0 player here. Doing some patrols when bored orwhen I have free time. My question is I always notice this Task Force that starts from Liverpool circles around Britain and ends in Dover somewhere. When I try to intercept it I can never see them. Like it shows that im literally in the path of the task force and I never make a contact with them ... ever. AFter which they dissapear from my map contact updates and they start from Liverpool again. Can I intercept them somehow or is it a GWX bug?

Can confirm - nearly got ran over by them the other day and almost **** myself. Good times.

02-07-15, 09:37 AM
Yes I managed to intercept it this time. I was about to post screenshots because I was sure that i wouldn't detect them, but I did.
Strangely i tried a million times to catch them on my old pc. But I think i had gwx 2.0 or something I don't know so it could have been an older bug.
Im kind of dissapointed though since the task force was reported as medium/large and when i found them it was just a plain large convoy soo it's not even a task force (muh dreamed juicy carriers/battleships :wah::wah::wah:) Anyway thanks for your replies

But now that I am on the topic I would like to ask some questions regarding a few things. Where is it possible and during which time can I find the IOWA (Or a task force containing the iowa) aswell as the Russian Revenge BB (or a task force containing the BB) and the greek Giorgious Averof CA. I've never really left the atlantic soo I wouldn't know.

Also when I turn the pacific campaign on are there any juicy british/american carriers or battleships in there (in some big juicy task forces)?

Really don't know for sure, because I use the 1024x768 even if I plan to switch to the 1370x768 some time in the future (I play on a laptop with a native resolution of 1366x768).

But let's see...
1024/768 = 1.333... aspect ratio.
1360/768 = 1.7708... aspect ratio.
1280/1024 = 1.25 aspect ratio..

So, the 1360x768 (1.77) is good for 16/9 monitors (16/9 = 1.77) like mine (I have 1366x768 native resolution, I'm on a laptop).

The "native" SHIII resolution is (was) for 4/3 screens (4/3 = 1.33) and your native resolution 1280/1024 gives an aspect ration of 1.25, close enough to the 4/3 aspect ratio, but probably you will suffer some distortion...
In your case, the optimal resolution should be 1280x960 because 1280/960 = 1.33333 excatly the same aspect ratio of the 1024x768 version.

So, if you use the 1024x768 version you should be able to experience no distortion at all even if you will see two black borders, above and below the game frame. In essence I think you should go with 1024x768 version, but I really don't know for sure :D

).

If your graphics card is similar to my nVidia 540M, then you will need to change the resolution (in the .dll file) to 1366x768. Specifiying 1360x768 causes a CTD on startup. Since this is only a 0.4% difference, it looks fine at 1366x768.

But it is easy enough to find out, and there is never any permanent harm done. Might as well experiment. Finding out what works for you is usually far more productive than reading what someone else did.

Thanks for the directions, everyone!
I installed it and it works OK. The only thing I dislike in this mod is that icon bar which is used to navigate between the stations inside U-Boot. I mean the one that used to pop-up on the left and now it is in the bottom, concealed beneath the text messages panel, until you get the cursor there from below. Not too convenient:( Any way to move the text panel some place else?

Mmmm... I didn't know that.

I assumed my video card would be able to display the 1360 pixel while placing two black vertical bars of 3 pixel width on both the left and right size of the screen... because my monitor have enough resolution to display the 1360x768 "game viewport"...
Exactley as it currently does to diplay the 1024x768 game viewport... :hmm2:

In any case I have no idea how to change the resolution in the .dll file, I assume is not as easy as editing a text file, right? :)

Btw my Asus laptop have an old nVidia GeForce G102M.

Uff da! I misspoke. You don't have to change the .dll. You just change the accompanying d3d9.ini, which is a text file:

(this is from Widescreen MaGUI, but the others are similar)

[GLOBAL]
DebugLog=false

[ENGINE]
DisplayWidth=1366
DisplayHeight=768
Refreshrate=false
[LOADSCREENS]
tx=0.01635
ty=0.0
sx=0.0
sy=0.00
maxscale=true

[EFFECTS]
Ocean=false

That's it!

BTW, I didn't know it either! I never found anything , anywhere that mentions this important fact. But when I tried to use 1360, it CTDed with a "failed to initialize" message. Looked at my nVidia card, saw that there was no option for 1360, but there was one for 1366. So I figured: "It's not working anyway. Nothing to lose" and tried 1366. Worked fine.

Sometimes you just gotta poke at these things.

Hello fellow captains....

Like some of us it has been a while since I tasted the salt of the seas.

I am planning on venturing back into SH3 with GWX.

Is there a winning recipe for which additional mods should be enabled with GWX. I have been told that the AI could do better. Is there a popular/stable list of recommended stuff that should be used together with the GWX base mod?

Your feedback is much appreciated!

Saved games are notoriously twitchy in SH3. Try this thread for more information: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=166283

I got less CTDs once I applied the 4GB patch but the best advice is to not rely on save games and to never, ever save within render distance of land, ships or aircraft - I usually let myself get at least 50km from both land and other known ships before I try and save mid patrol.

Tried to start adding that huge amount of mods that were made after GWX 3.0 had been reliesed, but there are too much of them. Anyone to post its own unofficial workable adition to GWX install?

Also hoping to get a reply to Hunter's question. GWX 3.0 is rather old now so there have been many other mods released that hopefully work for GWX 3.0. Would like to get both suggestions of what mods should be added to GWX 3.0 to make it even better (especially mods released in the last 2-3 years) and suggested JSGME install orders. Thanks.

Everybody has their own list of favorite mods, and no two are the same. My personal list has been tested thoroughly by and for me, but it can't just be downloaded and installed. Many mods have to be tested and made to work with each other. It's never easy.

Here is my current list:

Permanently Installed:
GWX 3.0
Hardcode Fixes - h.sie

JSGME Permanent:
GWX 3 Wil, St Naz and Schluese and other units v7 - Bigboywooly
New Lorient - Alfred Keitzer
Remove GWX Compass - ichso
Simfeeling 6-Dials Mod - FLB-Sale_U-999
Anschütz Kompass - Leitender
Open Hatch Mod - Diving Duck

Most are personal favorites, not necessary at all but ones I like. That is where the differences lie between my list and those of others. Pretty much everything is optional, and almost none of it important.

Excuse me if it's a noob question but what is Variable Trim by BigWalleye? I tried to search it out but found nothing. I don't remember this option in SH3 Commander.

Sailor Steve
07-08-15, 10:22 AM
Not a noob question at all. It's a script created by BigWalleye that has to be entered manually into SH3 Commander's CFG folder. The scripts are inserted at the end of the Randomized Events.cfg file.

Here is the link for variable BdU reactions to sinking neutrals.

1. I noticed that for more ships we have different draft in museum and handbook. The difference is 0,5-1 m. I thing it's mistakes, but maybe i'm not right?

2. The C2 Merchant changed to Medium Merchant. In stock SH3 C2 had 6200 t. In GWX he have less than 5000 t. I want to know why?

3. The Granville-type Freighter have a strange noise of screws - like the ship going down. My acoustic and me going crazy when we hear that noise. Which file in ship folder have the information about noise of screws? I want to change it.

2. The C2 Merchant changed to Medium Merchant. In stock SH3 C2 had 6200 t. In GWX he have less than 5000 t. I want to know why?
Stock SH3 only has a tiny handful of merchants to represent hundreds of different types. The C2 is the only merchant of average medium size in the game. While the first C2s were built in 1939 they were strictly American. There were some sold to other countries but not until 1941. This means that you have a very specific American ship representing dozens of different European merchants, not one of them realistic.

I was one of the ones who pointed this out ten years ago, when the game was new. The original Grey Wolves team chose to rename the ship so in name at least it could represent the more common medium freighters, though there were many different types and none of them looks like a C2. The also reduced the size to reflect the average tonnage of the average medium merchant.

With the coming of IABL's Merchant Fleet Mod that is no longer necessary. In my Ship Names Mod I renamed it "C2" again, and made it so it's only American and only real C2 names apply. I don't know how to change the tonnage back, though.

Sailor Steve, your mod list is impressive (and similar to mine) :salute:

I have three questions for you:
1. In what order did you enable GWX 3 Wil, St Naz and Schluese and other units v7, TMTv2+ThomsensShips v4.4 for GWX3+Xtra Ships and Merchant Fleet Mod?
2. How did you prepare h.sie's Colored Hull Integrity Indicator to use?
3. How did you (or did you at all) incorporate A-I Class Destroyers and J-Z Class Destroyers to campaign? Are they fully compatible with GWX dynamic campaign?

1. In what order did you enable GWX 3 Wil, St Naz and Schluese and other units v7, TMTv2+ThomsensShips v4.4 for GWX3+Xtra Ships and Merchant Fleet Mod?
I have those three installed in that order, though not one right after the other. Everything is in the order I show on my list.

2. How did you prepare h.sie's Colored Hull Integrity Indicator to use?
I don't recall that I prepared anything. It installed using JSGME with no problems.

3. How did you (or did you at all) incorporate A-I Class Destroyers and J-Z Class Destroyers to campaign? Are they fully compatible with GWX dynamic campaign?
Again they installed with no problems. I'm still very early in the war, so I haven't seen any of them yet and don't know if there will be troubles when they show up.

I have some questions I hope someone can help me.
I have grey wolves 3.0 I was wondering the following.

1 is there a way to take the rec manual from sh5 with weak spots on the ships and adapt it to gw or sh4?

2 in the torpedo training mission has any one had the following sink all 5 ships then get a objective not complete?

3 is there a ocean floor like the one used in sh4 trigger mod that can be used in gw?

4 is there a way to adapt a sh4 or 5 radio to sh3 gw?

5 is there any new ones or is 3.0 the only one?

I must say that this mod is great I even like the explosions and water effects and the removal of the under water boat icon makes it a challenge.

I was wondering has anyone had a torpedo in GW misfire?
as in explode and it hit nothing?

That usually happens when there are ship files missing. The game is still loading at that time and when it can't find files he's looking for it gives up.

To help we need to know your system specs and what mods you are running, and in what order.

Interesting....

I'm installing GWX 3.0Gold but found this. The installation is pointing to my C\:Ubisoft folder where SH5 resides. Mind you SH3 is not in that folder but in the Games folder I created. The Ubisoft folder is not in Program Files nor the Program Files (x86) folders. All that's in the Ubisoft folder is Silent Hunter 5 and Silent Hunter 5 Copy.

I know others have said their SH3 is in the Ubisoft folder. Is this the standard routing for GWX? And why wasn't a fresh new install of SH3 directed to the C\:Ubisoft folder?

I'm still going to do the installation to the Games\Silent_Hunter_3 location, but wanted to see what different thoughts on this are. Sorry to bring it all up again and be a PITA. But inquiring minds might need to know like I do. ;)

After contact with the enemy? As in you have them in sight?

SH3 is very finicky about where it is saved. You should never save in sight of any other ship, any base or any shoreline.

After that, all I can suggest is that you remove all the mods and reinstall them one at a time. Test the game after each mod install. This will tell you exactly which mod is causing the problem. It will also probably kill your current career, but it sounds like it's pretty well dead anyway.

Or : disable your mods one at a time, starting from the last mod installed. Test the game after each mod uninstalled. This will tell you exactly which mod is causing the problem. And maybe it will not kill your current career.

While a slow systematic process will work, you might consider this instead:

If you have, say 20 mods, and one is causing a problem, enable #1-#10, leaving #11-#20 disabled. If things work, you know the problem is in #11-#20, if they don't, the problem is in #1-#10. As you continue, keep cutting the mod section under investigation by 1/2. This should speed up the process.

Returning for a new tour of duty with SH3 and of course my previous tour stats and files were on a dead HD scraped years ago, so back to starting from scratch. Have the GWX.exe files, 1.4 patch file, new clean game, win 7, so added files as directed early in this thread. Game runs fine. GWX won't load at all. About 90% of GWX loads then a APP crash warning. All files being installed scanned clean and they matchup with files required. Listing the crash report below for any computer savvy Captain to decipher if it makes sense. Appreciate any suggestions or alternatives as my crew is looking at me like.. "and your the new Captain!".

Did you perform a registry clean before installing?

Emax
03-06-16, 01:37 AM
Did not preform a registry clean, as newly built tower unit 3 weeks old with Win 7 install files only on board. Downloaded GWX from several source downloads so have tried different different downloads with different original SH3 game source downloads as well. StarForce check prior to all attempts. Followed step by step instructions to the T. Following attempts to install GWX each time I then run game files only and SH3 has always run fine alone. At a loss for solution, as stop warning I posted above has happened on each GWX install attempt.

Are you able to run any training missions with GWX installed? Does it just fail when you attempt campaign mode? Or does the whole thing fail?

I don't know if this will help, but I was running into trouble in Win10, but only when loading / running campaign. I set compatibility on the SH3.exe to WinXP SP2, and that seemed to rectify the problem... at least thus far.

Anything else loaded besides GWX? What GWX mods do you have enabled?

Your choice matey but this problem has been resolved many many times on this forum in the past by simply removing residual files that your computer is recognising and prioritising, therefore blocking or ignoring the newer files need to allow a playable installation.

hi guys im doing some changes for a version of caws (chats addon)mod for gwx3+MFM.

im interested in found info about the light houses in the game to add a map of modiffy something, becose lighthouses are extremly important for real navigation. Also some kind of map about mined areas in game would be usefull.

i cant make big changes becose im not a good modder but if you have an idea of usefull chart comment it.

Any way to stop the game from deactivating time-compression settings just because the boat takes a little dunk due to rough seas, during combat?

This may be for just anyone in a similar situation or useful feedback (or maybe you knew this already) re: GWX3.0 and Windows 10.

Love the GWX3 mod although ran into some things I had to fix up after installing it.

Run a vanilla Windows 10 Home edition OS. No special pre-made image from the big box stores just the full-off the shelf version from an office supply store.

Ran stock SHIII via Steam for months (about 460 hours of play time) on Windows 10 as described above. Stable. No crashes. No issues.

Had some crash-to-desktop (CTD) issues after installing GWX3. And that was after doing the proper steps of putting a GSX3 install over a clean SHIII install.

Unknown the exact fixes as I did multiple things after noticing the CTDs.

1. Forced Windows 10 to run GWX3 in compatibility mode for XP SP3.
2. Set screen resolution down to 1024x768 (still looks good on a 27" monitor). I love the game enough to dedicate this computer to it if needed.
3. When launching the GWX3 shortcut, I now right-click it and "Run as administrator".
4. Video options of SHIII/GWX3, turn off event camera; reduced texture detail a bit.
5. Restart.

Runs very well. At some point I will do some fault isolation and re-engage some of the video settings.

Now stable. Also note, this is just me with my system. So, I have no other events to point to with other users and their systems. So take what I post with that kind of grain-of-salt.

I have only been using GWX3 for two days.

And of course after playing 460-some hours of stock SHIII, having a wonderful enjoyment of this GWX3 mod.

So GWX 3 is really great however I wish they had not removed gaining renown from completing mission objective, ie: 24 hour patrol at x grid. I think the problem is its immersion altering for me. Removing the renown from completing ones mission takes away any meaning to actually following orders.

Is there a way to easily add the renown gained from completing mission?

One problem I have found consistently with Silent Hunter series is the lack of two way communications. It always feels like the world is a little static because other than mission completed communication there is no feeling of a real dynamic between sub and BdU. The extra communications added by GWX or other mods in rest of Silent Hunter series are a nice touch but one realises there is no connectivity between those comms and the real world outside your sub.

For me a great addition to any future sub game (Silent Hunter 6) would be a real dynamic campaign system something like the one in Falcon 4 where comms are connected to the world outside.

Rewon is easy to change, if i dont mistake is in basic config file. I was touching myfile and posible i will add a little rewon (50 in gwx) for reach in position (24hours dont seems realistic to me, and very complex sometimes playing with real navigation).

if you use h.sie patch, Dbu deoends on your situation, any way i think 25 answers coulnt get a incredible inmmersion, but h.sie wark is wonderfull and thinking is a patch compared to stock is great. Mybe if you want extreme inmersion, theres a mod wich bomb you with real mensages frmo Dbu, historic. The 95% dont affect you, 3% are instruction like JFO and 2% names you (incluiding your sunk! muajujuju).

i hope it help. i dont bealive there will be sh6. i would be happy if they realise a repacked sh3 without limitations for the 10th aniversary.

The sounds a cool mod. It makes sense that if you sink HMS Renown, it should be BdU signalled news. Also cool would be where you can send a convoy contact report in, shadow the convoy (within 25 km range), and watch other u-boats arrive at the scene. It might take a few days for closest u-boats to arrive but would be super immersive.

An SH6 will be developed one day and when they do I hope they add much more immersion in the dynamic campaign.

H.sie wolpack fix and another path on-the-fly, suport wolpack and the dbu send the mensages and you could see then in night. (jajajaja well if you can find it becose the attack gets a madness) The attacks takes, i dont know hours (several hours up to the night).

The news and custumed mensages needs complex changes in code. I dont say its out of capacities of steibler or h.sie in deed, but is so complex with so minimun benefics for player that i dont think noone would lose time leading time working on it.

theres a dynamic campaing software but i dont use it becose to me becose very buggy.

Hello, I am new to SH3, and I am trying to download GWX. When I go to the official website and click on the link to download GWX, it takes me to "the Escapist Magazine," and there is no way to "escape" it (See what I did there?). There is no further download link (such as on adfly). Also when I try going to the filefront link on the beginning of this thread, it gives me an error. Are there any other ways to download GWX? Only want to thank the GWX team for this complex modification! I use this mod for years but never played a career longer then 1941!
Now i have reached mid 44 till the escorts finally have send me to the ground!
23 patrols, 90% realism, with many surprising events and adrealin! Had no probs all the time (except one CTD after a convoy was loaded in mid 43) but thats all!
Again thanks for all the work, also a big thanks to Stiebler for his patch!

Playing with this mod from the time that was released.
Μy complain is that all others mods (NYGM WAG LSH3) had updated at least once ( LSH3 starts a new version in 2017) and this one had stoped.
The quest is if is in your schedule to update the mod

So I remember years ago playing grey wolves, I saw the bismarck and fought the prince of whales, or however it goes. I specifically remember the radio messages throughout.

This time I caught the Hood coming out of scapa and sunk her. Does that change the rest of the script? I've tried to race down and catch the end of the battle out there, but there are no messages narrating it, and it won't seem to spawn at all. There is a warship spawning in the right area at the right time, but it's exact place and direction seems random so i haven't been able to catch it and see what it is. In any case I went well into the next month and there was never a message having to do with the bismarck. Does sinking the hood shut down the rest of the script?

thanks

Hello, and first of first, thanks for all that great work you put to development of GWX - I used to play GWX version 1 some ages ago ;)

Then I took few years off, but just yesterday I stumbled on an old installation of SH3 with GWX on my old external HDD and tried to run it - ofc, no go, since new Windows, new drivers, old game... you know the stuff :)

So, I checked the uncle Google for new versions and hey - a harbor of subsim on the horizon! :)

So I got to work. Cleaned it all up, registry, cache, user profiles...
Downloaded GWX 3.0 from links here in forum, rummaged through my old DVD´s and actually found the SH3 DVD from 2005 with version 1.0 :) that brought a tear or two up :03:
So I found also the update 1.4b EMEA DVD and started.

Clean install of SH3, update to 1.4b, update to GWX, no trouble, installation flawless.
But at GWX startup, some kind of protection system message comes up, with a lot of log after it - I attach it here below, but it has around 33 MB and it is partially in Czech - my Windows primary language. Sorry about that.

Is there anyone who actually found the solution for such an error?

I tried reinstallations, both versions of GWX (the full one and partial), looked on uncle Google again...
It seems Windows logs this issue under problems with graphic card driver, but I tried to run the SH3 original (works) and SH3 1.4b updated (works too) without issues.

Anybody wiser?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Here the log, if anyone has some insights:
