To all, please read carefully.

CaptainNemo12,

The 16km atmosphere optional mod in GWX contains OLC's Environment 2.4.3 mod.

Later versions of his work can be placed over the top of GWX without the need to enable the included 16km atmosphere mod included in GWX.

HOWEVER, after you enable OLC's latest Environment mod... do not then enable the 16km atmosphere mod included with GWX... or else you'll revert to the default GWX version.

(Just enable OLC's latest work last in the sequence.)

If this confuses anyone, the default 16km Atmosphere mod included with GWX... containing OLC's earlier work is quite good. If it makes things easier, you can just stick with it.

Could someone please tell me where in GWX 3.0 Gold, I can find out what my rules of engagement are?

I've just started a new campaign in 1939 and I'm just transiting thru the English channel - which is very target rich. Should I shoot or what?

Should I only target military ships and if so, when does this change?

Sorry for the nooby questions - haven't played GWX 3.0 before and have been playing SH4 for the last 18 months so I've kinda forgotten most of my SH3 stuff, and I couldn't find the answer on a couple of searches.

Thanks

Elphaba

GWX3 does not start like the vanilla version the day before the war but starts weeks ahead.

So, no, you do not start shooting as you are not at war with Britain and/or France. Not yet.

They are neutral so you will get a minus renown for sinking them.

This extra pre-war time will allow you to take the English Channel short cut without being attacked so you can be positioned in the convoy lanes for that blessed day of blood and cuts flying all over the North Atlantic to the joy of sharks everywhere.

Or, you can run out, do your patrol grid, get back to base and improve your crew all before the invasion of Poland

This was a good move by GWX3 IMO

Does this work with the steam version of the game?
If so is there a FAQ guide about how to get it to work? I understand that you download it in multiple .bin files and then an .exe file.
Is it as simple as pointing the .exe file in the right direction?

Thanks for any help :)

There is no FAQ for installations created by STEAM as those annoying "people" saw fit to change the default directory/file path.

HOWEVER, all you will need to do though is to point the GWX installer to wherever STEAM installed SH3 in your program files.

I hate STEAM. :stare: What an idiotic, pain in the a$$ arrangement they have. I'm sure it is due to contractual obligation... but I just don't care. Fill in your favorite curse-word here: _____________

I'm not at all upset with you, FJ88. STEAM just has me STEAMED! They should buddy up with whoever was in charge of Window's Vista.:damn:

There is only one way to find out I guess.

Be persistant though. There are workarounds for Vista. Also, the GWX manual includes installation directions for Vista users. If you need to you can download the GWX manual by itself from our website. Just remember to redirect any mod installer to the different STEAM file-path for your game.

Also, to get GWX to work... you will need to first download and apply the Ubisoft 1.4b patch for SH3. (Unless your copy from Steam was delivered already patched.)

hi, i just installed GWX3.0 and it works veeery good. Then i started a multiplayer session with a friend. Generated battles do work but if i choose a normal mission, it crashes on both of our computers at the same point on the loading screen (like 1cm before the end of that loading bar). Is there any way to fix that or are there special missions around in the internet because shooting those ships in normal missions is pretty boring as there are always the same ones.. We wanna shoot the Bismark or protect it.. Something like that would be nice =D

I've got a :damn: problem, trying to install GWX3.

Specifically, I get a corrupt file error when installing (I can post the exact error, if someone wants it). I checked the MD5sums on the multipart installation files, and noted that gwx3-4.bin was off. Redownloaded it from Greywolves' site... and the MD5sum is still off. Tried the mirror site, with the same results.

All the other files are fine. No security software is running currently. Vista 32 bit (spent last night wiping 64 bit off, so I didn't have to repurchase SH3... gave me an excuse to clean the install, too).

Anyone have any suggestions? I tried a bit of search, thinking there might be a common issue, but had no luck.

Edit: I did a bit more searching, and found someone else with the same issue (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=1146830&postcount=4663): I'll take a look at the "corrupt" file with GIMP and compare it to the others, as described in the post.

Yep... first Kpt. Lehmann's FileFront page, then yours, as listed on the GWX3 Download page. *helpless shrug*

I simply ignored the problem. The file, NKSs_T05.tga, was missing after the installation of GWX3. I simply copied NKSs_T06.tga, and renamed the copy.

I made the substitute (actually, I opened all the similar files with Photoshop and swaped a couple things around, then saved at ... er, 32-bit TGA, I think) about a couple months ago and have been playing GWX-3 ever since without any problems. But I'm curious as to what the original NKSs_T05 looks like.

Any possibility of posting just that one file for download?

I have not noticed any problems with running GWX so what exactly does this file do?
If I need to add this file to my game how would this best done - not another full install...please :wah:

@U2222

The problem is not widespread and has only occurred on an isolated basis. If you have not experienced problems... you have nothing to worry about.

If it was a general problem/bug, we would have had literally thousands of complaints... which would have required us to release a hotfix.;)

Kind regards.

Hi guys! I have been playing GWX for about half a year now and it's awesome! But there's one small problem, well 2 in fact.

In the stock SH3, while at the bridge, you can hear the diesel engines roaring when you ordered Ahead Flank. But in GWX, the Uboat is eerily silent at all speeds. Though some might argue whether the diesel sounds should be audible at the bridge, I would like to recreate the stock SH3 engine roar or if theres any flaws in my installation.

Secondly, I seem to have some problems with my hydrophone. The ships' screws sounds are so soft even when the ships are close up. My sonarman reports 'no sonar contact' even when a DD is within visual range! (like ard 500m away). So is there any way to get around these sound problems?

In the SH3 options, in the menu, you have the ability to lower/raise the sound level for voices adn effects. Try lowering voices and other until you hear all as you want

Hi,
I have the Thomson's Sound Pack and I am able to hear the engines on the bridge. I'm not sure if that's only because of Thomson's or if you just have some problem with your installation but you might try that. The sound pack is very nice anyway so even if it doesn't fix your problem it's great to have! I am sure it is not due to some other mod because for a long time, GWX and Thomson's Sound were the only mods I used. (Now I have added some others and things are even better).

As far as the hydrophone, it is true that the sonarman is quite deaf. Some things you can do to maybe improve it a little:
* Make sure that your sonarman and radioman both have the radio qualification and as much rank as possible. It is funny, but their effectiveness is based on the efficiency of the room as a whole, so even though they have separate jobs, the skill of one affects the skill of the other.
* Upgrade your hydrophones when you can, as the low-tech "GHG" hydrophones are not very good.
* Some contacts don't make very much noise and won't be easy to hear. Ships whose engines have stopped, and sailing ships, will not be detectable on the hydrophones.

However the main cause of the sonarman missing nearby contacts is just that he has not pointed the hydrophone at them yet. As you know if you man the station yourself, you can not hear a contact if the hydrophone is pointing the wrong way, no matter how close. Sometimes the sonarman doesn't report a contact just because his sweep has not reached the bearing yet. But, he will usually not find distant contacts, even when he sweeps right past them. But the sonarman will often be able to track a contact you have pointed out to him, which he could not find on his own. To do this, find the contact, select it with the checkbox and choose the type of ship, then give the order to follow the contact. This still will not work on very distant contacts, but it will work on medium-range ones. Most of the time this works out - if you are using the hydrophone to search for contacts, it is OK to do the searching yourself, whereas if you are in combat already, the sonarman can usually hear anyone who is close enough to be interesting. As an additional bonus to searching for contacts yourself, sometimes you will find whales, or dolphins. (Tracking down dolphins using the hydrophone is quite a good practice for hunting ships this way, as dolphins move very quickly and erratically, and as a bonus, you can see them through binoculars on the bridge and they are cute).

As far as using the hydrophone manually, and again assuming you have the Thomson sound pack, you must make sure your own sound environment in the real world is adequate. You must have a quiet room, or good headphones, or a very high volume. There is a faint ticking sound, which is the clock in the radio room. Like distant sonar contacts, it is quieter than the ambient ocean noise audible through the hydrophone. I find if I can hear the clock ticking, I can also hear any ship that the hydrophone is capable of finding. The advantage of the hydrophone in this case is that it can hear ships outside visual range and works equally well at night or in bad weather (it works too well in bad weather actually, it should be degraded some and it isn't).

Edit to add:
* Of course, hydrophones don't work on the surface.
* Hydrophones work best while you are stopped. The faster you go, the less effective they are. (It's actually based on engine speed, not motion through the water)
* Sometimes, turning quickly will cause your sonarman to lose track of a contact he is following.
* Supposedly depth matters, but this either isn't implemented or doesn't have a significant effect. I never noticed any difference.

Hmm I might try out Thomson's pack, sounds cool. Thanks for your quick reply. I recalled that I do not have such hydrophone problems with stock SH3. Well i will describe that patrol I was on so that it forms a better picture. I was being depth charged by 2 DDs (rearguard I think) as I tried to chase a convoy. For the better of 2 hours I was depth charged. 1 DD finally left. The second was just about to leave, so I was asking the sonarman for nearest sound/warship contact. He reported none,(even after I asked him like 5 times or so) so I manned the station myself n gave it a few slow spins and got nothing, not even an 'unknown'. Not believing both since I was just depthed charged a few minutes ago, I used the F12 external view (sorry abit of cheating here haha). N the DD was at bearing 230 or more, moving away, at 300-500 metres. I was completely flabbergasted that I quit the game. I have a quiet room, am using headphones, at max volume. Im not sure if GWX is making it more realistic for tracking sonar contacts or its some configuration. I have managed to track a few convoys by sonar in stock SH3 cus the screw sounds are quite audible. (and sank a few ships yeah:) For my GWX, the screw sounds are so faint even when the ships are within comfortable visual range (mast n deck visible). I guess I will try out Thomson's pack THX!!!! (THOMSON! IT'S THOMSON!:)

TO Hitman:

All my volumes are maxed out. I suppose I could try tinkering with the voices volume n all. But as I said, the volume options isnt the issue with stock SH3. Has GWX altered the volume of the diesel engines noise which can be heard from the bridge?

I have recently installed Silent Hunter III and then installed GWX. I started a career in 1939 from the 7th Flotilla based in Kiel. My first orders are to go to AO98 and sink some target ships. Problem is, when the game loads up, I have spawned in the ocean off the West coast of Africa!

I recently purchaced and installed your GWX 3 super mod.

I installed it and got it to run.

It is remarkable!

My pc is not very fast.

It meets all the minimum requirements to play except cpu speed.

I can play basic SH3 with patch 1.4b until I get to a convoy. Then it slows down a considerable amount.

GWX 3 slows it down even more while playing SH3.

Can I remove some of the graphic effects like extra nice sky and water to get it to run faster?

Can I copy and paste the GWX3 Missions folder to the desktop and install them to basic non GWX3 SH3 with patch 1.4b?

I would be satisfied with just the new missions and the navigation dials that come with GWX3.

Thanks In Advance!

This is just a random guess: Sounds like you might have used SH3 Commander to start the career but chose different flotillas in Commander and SH3 with the 'spawn at sea' option enabled in Commander.

You can tone down your visuals in the options panel and disable the enhanced damage effects mod but the files for sea and sky are part of the olc environmental mod which would take a high level of knowehow to tweak (not adviseable or recommended).

The GWX3.0 Missions folder will only work with GWX3.0.

Yes I have. I will reinstall the config files again. Everything else works wonderful, as I have started a new career from a different Flotille. Restarting a new career in that same 7th Flotille netted me the same result, so I am a happy person serving in teh 1st Flotille for now.

I am amazed at the difference between the original GWX v1.01 and GWX3.0 :salute:
when i moved my cursor to the right and had the massive compass hit me in the face i was impressed
its use is much easier for exact course setting but im still new and would like to know the best setup ie GWXmods to add now that there are more than eight and some arent compatable with each other and game settings for the best action ie which is the best flottila and year to start etc, i am on a dial up mobile broadband so online gaming is out of the question can you help, other than that it is running fluidly so no probs with installation or game play set on max everything and have installed sh3cmdr v3.2, and installed the gwx3 cfg files for it, I just would like to play it at its best settings for maximum gameplay experience. :salute:

Hi Sailor Steve that mod looks awesome, i have a few questions for you.

1. I notice most seperate mod files are .7z files, which software do i need to unpack them/ decompress or decode them??

2. Which mods do you prefer using?

Once they are unzipped the dials themselves can be installed with JSGME, but I recommend doing it manually. The bigger problem is the files that must be changed. The mod comes with complete instructions for doing so, and if you have any problems I'm glad to help. I love this mod, as it also turns the entire GUI into a popup.

He also tells you exactly where to put them in his instructions.

One thing I really missed a long time in SH3, was the ability to have precise and big dials for the main steering of the U-Boat.

I used the WAC style DSK mod and corrected it completely for GWX 3.0.

You will see the binocular with hands and bearing indicator as in WAC because GWX has disabled it.

Furthermore, I made it fully compatible with Anvart's Flag and Antenna Mod. No Commands_en.cfg file errors anymore!

If you want another GUI for GWX 3.0, just click on the page below and you can read more information.

Sound added too: When loading new shells for your deck gun, your crew will shout "LOSSS" ... :arrgh!:

Can someone help me please? I am trying to install GWX 3.0 but the installer constantly gives me an error message that I have mod files installed and won't finish the install. But I have no mod files installed. I did install JSGME ahead of time which has been no help at all. JSGME was supposed to make everything so easy but it's a big hassle. Help! thank you. :damn:

I have installed GWX 3.0 and it looks very good. I have a little problem though. I don`t know if it is GWX 3,0 that does it but my weapons officer can no longer give me the firing solution. When i press the shortcut for the weapons officer all his functions are there but the firing solutions button. He can ID the ship, choose target, manage weapons, open and close selected tubes, I really really really REALLY suck at manual firing solutions, you won`t believe how many reichs mark are laying unexploded on the bottom of the Atlantic enough to run a small country for a year. So you understand why I need my weapons officer. I am using GWX 3.0 along with ACM 1.1.0 Core and dark files, the rest is just eye candy. Can you help me? :damn: :damn: :damn: :damn: :damn:

Just wanted to say thanks to the GWX team.

One of the greatest mods I have ever played. SHIII is truly at its finest with the GWX mod installed and I would not play without it.

Cheers on a job well done!

Though, there is no monetery reward for such hard work, I find the following fitting: (from the Hávamál):

Very good question....I'm honestly not sure never having found the need to, but it's either the FX or General knob.

Turn one down to say -20 and you should soon know if it's the other or not.

I was wondering if someone could offer some advice. I have just begun to play SHIII on my Vista laptop. It won't play on my older XP desktop without crashing. It seems to play OK now although I haven't gotten very far into the game yet. I am in the Naval Academy.

I am having trouble controlling my mouse cursor. It is very loose and sloppy and slides all over the place. It is like using a pendulum for a mouse. I have been toying with all my mouse settings but nothing has worked so far. The cursor is OK in the game until I actually start an exam or a mission and then it changes to sloppy mode. Also, partly because of this, the large compass keeps popping out on the right. Fighting with the mouse and the compass is harder than the game. Is there any way to disable the large compass? It is more trouble than it is worth. Any advice? thank you very much.

How much RAM do you have?
There is a way to disable the large compass by messing with the menu_1024 file, but adding RAM will probably solve both problems.
Also, you didn't install the game in the program files, did you? http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/member.php?u=217546

Hi everyone, my first post here YAY!

love this game, play the heck out of it, on my 3rd campaign now due to GWX updates and windows crashes, heh.

Cannot say enough about the work that went into this mod. REALLY made me get intrested in submarines, as i'm already a WWII buff, but i'm an Air Force guy by training.

Anyways, with that in mind, i loaded up GWX 3, and was a little concerned at a few changes i was noticing.

1)the first was that i keep firing torps after panning around in the periscope glass with the mouse, or UZO zoom...i couldn't figure out what was going on, and then noticed after lft clicking and looking around, [unless you F3 or elsewhere] to get back out, your very next left click is auto moved to the firing button! What is with THAT? :damn: it is very hard to break old habits, and i keep firing off wasted ammo unless i'm extremely careful. I can't find anything about this in the entire manual, is it a bug? or by design? If so, how can i change it back!?

2) when zooming in with binocs at night [not sure about other times] and then presing keypad 'Del' key to hide gauges...approx 10 seconds goes by and then the screen just goes all dark black, whereas you can't see anything...strangely, unhiding the guages brings the brightness back up. Anyone else notice this?

3) Lately they've behaved normally, but on my first few patrols there woudl be one guy in his shirt, in the rain, with the others in raincoats, and vice versa on a sunny day..they would have raincoats on for quite a while... seemed to work perfectly in 2.1

4) it seems there are a LOT more ship encounters, and also, i seem to get pretty lucky destroying merchants with 1 torp set at impact at 2 meter draft, then pounding a few shells below the water line...seems a lot easier than before..almost too easy now. I easily got 5-6 ships just on the way out to my patrol grid on my second patrol, with the earliest crappy torps!?!? i havnt had one fail on impact yet?!:shifty:

sorry so long of post, can anyone shed some light here? are these install bugs? corrupted files etc?

Welcome aboard. I was in the Air Force too but the speed was too fast for me. I guess I should have been in the Navy.
What mods/addons are you using?
Did you install GWX3.0 on a new, fresh, patched install of SH3 v1.4b?
If using Vista, did you install outside of the program/program86 folders?

Thanks guys-

I know what you mean Irish, too fast, so i was smart and got out after 4years, rested a couple, then rejoined in the guard...much slower and more relaxed... :)
So here's me answers:

What mods/addons are you using?

Did you install GWX3.0 on a new, fresh, patched install of SH3 v1.4b?
fresh install on XP sp3
patch 1.4b, then GWX 3.0
-downloaded newest SH3 commander 3.2.0.203
-added Commander .cfg files from GWX for that.
-used GME v2.2.0.120 to activate:
16k atmosphere
Merged Campaign
Enhanced Damage Effects
Integrated Orders
Main movie - Das Boot
Axis Mediterranean Aircraft Skins
English Nav Map and Grid Refs
Open Hatch Mod
VIIC41 Player Sub
Alternate Loadscreen -Full Circle
GWX2 - No RING RING mod by Melendir

Forgot to mention also, when I click full flank speed, the needle moves to it, then strangely bounces back to zero power! I thought at first it was a result of the Model effects 'malfunction' option in SH3 Commander, but my next patrol did the same thing..i'll try it another go just in case...
Also, i noticed the map does display english text, only when zoomed out pretty far, when you zoom in to 'realative' normal map view distance, the text pops back to German! not a big deal, but kinda funny. Not sure if that mod is supposed to act like that or not.

Thanks for any help mates!

question, do I have to roll back the commander at the end of every game exit? maybe I should just try unloading and re-loading the above mods as I saw above?

I am not sure what the problems are due to. When you have a large number, it is a good idea to run with just CMDR and GWX, and then add the mods as you go, rather than all at once. The last mod is not an official GWX mod (ring-ring) so I suggest you deactivate it first and see what happens. The enhanced damage effects causes problems on some systems, but not on most.
Your # 3 is a known SH3 bug that can't be fixed. If you submerge and resurface the gear should be appropriate.
#4; just wait a bit and it gets very much harder.
I always select the option to automatically roll-back.

Kpt. Lehmann
10-19-09, 09:12 PM
@ Mobias,

Regarding your #3 issue, in addition to what Irish has already stated, you can also manually drag your crewmen to an interior compartment and back to the bridge to force them to change into/out of bad weather gear.

Regarding your #4 issue, try turning off your free camera and map contacts for higher realism... Those enemy ships will be MUCH harder to find then. :shucks:

The date you start is always the 1st of the month. GWX3.0 does give you the opportunity to start in August but because of the hard coded limit you must start on the 1st.

Also, bearing in mind that war with England started on Sept. 3rd... not August third as your post above implies. (Though maybe you already knew that and it was just a typo.) Therefore, August 1st 1939 career starts give you one full month + three days peacetime sailing prior to commencement of hostilities.

I've never heard of that problem ocurring before. If you are close to a harbor/shore you may be within visual range of a shore battery or searchlight... something like that.

If it is somehow stuck... I imagine that it will return to normal when you reload the game.

However, it does make me wonder what mods you've added on top of GWX.:hmmm:

This will fix in no way the bug you've noticed... But let me tell you playing GWX3 with this stealth meter option disabled will make you enjoy a much more realistic experience, plus you'll get REAL satisfaction seeing you managed to act the right way not to get spotted by destroyers.

:shucks:

Good point, i did turn off exterior, unless i get a new ship for a bit :) , but i should man up and turn off birds eye...i agree there. I didn't know about the moving crew around to fix that little bug, but thanks, now i know.

I noticed all these things before i added the 'no ring ring' mod, just last night.

These were small issues though, i added a second post (should have edited the first] about the biggest two issues. 1) the auto movement of the mouse curser to the firing button, after using it to move the periscope/UZO around with the mouse. ..like i said, before, when you left clicked to 'let go' of the movement of the glass...your curser reappeared where it was when you first left clicked it. now, it flies way over to the big shiny red fire button..so literally, you have to F3 etc to get out of that looking mode...without wasting a loaded torpedo...

the second issue, was the full speed [flank i think?] setting wasn't working. it just kills the engine and the needle auto falls to zero speed. I will check right now to see if reloading all cmdr mods helped....

Thanks for still helping me guys..

One way is to learn to control the periscope with your up,down etc. keys. Press shift (I think) when moving the periscope and it moves faster (or slower, cant remember anymore).

Ok, update: Flank Speed works! mysteriously resolved itself when i reloaded all mods after rollback. huh.
-the auto-mouse firing still happening, this seems more than ever by design. Does it do this on all you guy's game??? Am i the only one that used the mouse to look around the periscopes?

Yeah Dowly, thanks, that is precisely what i have to do now to move the periscope/UZO around...(knew about fast and slow..a necessity to get crosshairs to lock on small ships!) i keep my hand off the mouse until i switch views...
-the screen to pitch black happened again when i was watching a ship sink, in the event viewer, under dark water at night, and then hid the guages with .Del key on nub pad.

2 down, 2 to go it seems..! heh.

I'm toying with the idea of porting the GWX campaign layer to SH4. I have some free time on my hands and would like to play with this, even though it may never actually happen :)

In case it does happen, who would I ask for permission to convert GWX 3.0 campaign layer to SH4?

We do reserve the right to hold the titles "The Grey Wolves Project" and/or "GWX" for future consideration... (I think that after all this time we've earned the rights to our own name.) Myself and Jimbuna will continue to oversee GWX interests that remain (detail management following the closure of the project) but without any expectation or obligation to start again with Silent Hunter V at some date in the future.

I also humbly ask that you in the community will lend your morale support to the above requests.

With respect. I don't think you realize exactly what you are asking. It is not as simple as just porting over campaign files.

What you are asking for is blanket permission to field every ship, airplane, land object, and every dolphin as well... effectively taking command of the vast majority of GWX property. That is what would be required for you to execute your wish. Beyond permissions for just using GWX campaign files... it would require scores of further individual permissions for individual objects.

For that reason, we politely decline your request and do not grant you permission. This statement is in line with our primary campaign file artists wishes resulting from previous conversations relating to the exact scenario you have placed before us.

We don't ever enjoy saying "NO" to anyone... but you have really asked too much of us here.

I've been away from GWX for far too long. (Damn those flight sims and EB! :)) Back to my watery favourite I find that GWX 4 is no more. The trauma is severe and it will take much counselling before I recover.

A huge THANKYOU to all involved in the development of the GWX mods. I've only ever played around with text files for micro-mods and the vast amount of hard work and dedication needed to get something like GWX off the ground is mind boggling. You all should be incredibly proud of the fantastic work you've done. I will continue to enjoy GWX for years (even after SHV comes out - unless you get to work on that too :D). The level of immersion and the accuracy is truly awesome!

Again, thank you all so very much for the brilliant and realistic mod you have created and made available (for free!) to everyone.

Best regards

Okay, I deleted my previous installation of the game entirely.

I installed it again, then patched to 1.4.

Then I installed the Gray Wolves mod.

However, the game won't start. The intro movies play fine, then it gets to the loading screen. The red bar crawls across the screen, then it freezes. The game just will not launch, no matter how much time I give it.

Any ideas?

"The NVIDIA GeForce Go 6100 / 6150 is an integrated graphics card of the NVIDIA nForce Go 430 MCP for AMD Turion notebooks. It doesn't have any integrated memory, but uses a part of the mainmemory (up to 128 MB) like the direct competitor Intel GMA 950 (http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Graphics-Media-Accelerator-950.2177.0.html). Therefore, the gaming performance is quite moderate and can only be used for elder games."

Unfortunately matey, your GFX card is rather weak when compared against the recommended specs for SH3+GWX. (Recommended GFX card strength for GWX is 256mb video ram or better.)

However, it may still run GWX (although I predict that it will do so poorly.)

ANY TIME that you set up a fresh/clean installation of SH3+GWX... the first time you load a career mission... it can take a LONG TIME to load... particularly for machines with less than recommended specs. (I'm talking 5-10 minutes here... so let it sit while you go make a cup of coffee/get something to eat etc.) A massive amount of coded material must squeeze through a data bottleneck that we can do nothing to enlarge... It is a limitation of the SH3 game.

Try loading up one of the integral training missions in the naval academy menu and let us know how you get on.

Yet another question, sorry if I'm being a 'newbug'

concerning mod compatibility; using integrated orders and MaGui, wondering if I can safely use Thompsen's Sound Pack since it wants to alter Commands-en.cfg and en-menu.cfg. Also would like to use SH3 Speech, and perhaps M.E.P. if it's not already obsolete due to GWX env. fixes.
If useable, what order would I install them in?

currently: (in order)
GWX - Captain America's Officer Icons
GWX - Open Hatch Mod
GWX - Integrated Orders
GWX - Enhanced Damage Effects
GWX - 16km Atmosphere
WB's Renown Replacement
Seafloor_SF_V3_Final
LifeBoats Debris v4
Flat Sun Fix for GWX3
Sept39_Aug40_Radio_Mod
Fernglass Leitz 7x50 Binoculars (does what? not what I thought ...)
1.4b Assisted Plotting Mod (doesn't seem to be working)
MaGui (appears to override Capt. America icons)
TMT v2
a Wolfehunters VIIB skin

what mods do people generally/popularly use with GWX3 anyhow, and what's no longer neccessary?
Loving GWX3 so far, and very much like the MaGui interface (tho I wish the dive etc. dials were bigger and popped out instead of having to use the button)

Again, apologies if I'm being a bug here ... so much new since last time I was able to check, but not much info on mod intercompatibility.

Thanks in advance :|\\

WOAHWOAHWOAH I'm a bit confused about (and really frustrated by) the difficulty level in GWX 3.0. :hmmm:

My sub (Type VII) was sitting in 30 meters depth 10 km south of the harbour of Plymouth and rigged for silent running, heavy sea, heavy rain.
2 small armed harbour ships pass by at 10 km distance. Suddenly they stop, head directly into my direction and throw depth charges and sink me.
Early 39 btw.

----

Another game, early 39, Type II boat this time, slightly below periscope depth, rigged for silent running, no periscope usage. A convoy passes by at 5 km distance. A destroyer at the far north of the convoy stops, charges into my direction, throws depth charges, sinks me.

----

Another game. Again early 39. Type II again, surfaced (!), sitting in the harbour of Dover at night. Nothing happens as they do not see me, i go to periscope depth. Rig for silent running. 2 small armed harbour ships suddenly come into my direction (after the boat is submerged for some time), depth charges, death.

--

I am no sissy, but this is WAY too much. It's like playing a game of Russian roulette with a loaded HMG. Is there a way to tone the difficulty down to a more believable level? I like a challenge but telepathic, precision guided, instakill depth charges thrown by super ships from hell are.. well.... a little bit too much imho. Especially in 1939. If the real U-Boat warfare would have been that difficult, Germany would have surrendered by early winter 39 :rotfl2:

I'm a bit confused about (and really frustrated by) the difficulty level in GWX 3.0. :hmmm:

Radio,

Why the hell are you stalking harbors :06:

Why the hell are you operating in shallow waters :06:

GWX 3.0 is in fact challenging but very very achievable. I combine GWX with WaW for a extreme experience. When I get my WaW BDU orders issued I study the area of operations that I'm assigned, I sector off sections of my patrol route that I consider to be U-boat graveyards. Never ever put your crew your U-boat in a scenario where your actions-on are restricted, for example; 10km outside of harbors and shallow waters of say 30m.

Many SHIII players die and get frustrated with how they died. Did you have deep water to maneuver :hmmm: choose your engagement areas wisely, have actions-on for scenarios and for god sake don't get bloody greedy.

Think like a U-boat commander :03:

If your command appreciation is to stalk enemy harbors utilizing shallow waters as your method of stealth ...... if I was a crew member on your U-boat ....... I would be asking for a transfer :gulp:

Radio
11-09-09, 11:35 PM
I was careful to the extreme! And I was not even moving. Zero knots. Nothing. :DL

Especially the convoy attack was frustrating: I was in a superb position, all I had to do was to wait for the convoy to arrive. I was rigged for silent running below periscope depth and did not even think into the direction of the convoy in fear of being detected.

And still the destroyer came from 10 kilometres away directly to my position and depth charged me??? Achievable? nope.

Same for the Type VII thing: I did not even enter the harbour (as I was afraid because of the ^other cases) but lay totally quiet 20 kilometres to the south west and only tried to figure out the paths the ships take in and out by passively listening. In silent running mode, at below periscope depth. I had sneaked into that position submerged.

And woosh, the PSI-ASW-Squad arrives and depth charges me with not 1 cm inaccuracy. This is simply not possible. There has to be a bug or a typo in the sensor files.Trust me i can differentiate between a hard game and a bug.

Venatore

Trust me i can differentiate between a hard game and a bug.

Radio,

I've never experienced what your saying and I use GWX 3.0 exclusively. Don't think that remaining still & silent will achieve some sort of cloak of invisibility over your U-boat.

Try Running slow & silent (1 knot); when within sight of an enemy destroyer/vessel try to remain close to the surface (17 meters) in anything but the calmest of seas this will also hide you from the enemy's sensors. But if you are pinged/compromised, descend deep, deploy BOLD canisters at flank and transition to slow passing 100-120 meters, you'll live longer, once at your extreme depth reduce to 1 knot silent running. Depth reduces the effectiveness of sonar. The deeper the U-boat, the more difficult it is to locate.

There are several occasions when an escort will lose contact with a submerged U-boat. During the explosion of a depth charge, an intermittent blackout occurs, deafening the pursuer’s listening devices until they calibrate themselves. When the escort passes directly above a submerged U-boat, both sonar and hydrophone contacts are lost.

Without getting into a robust discussion, I'm sorry my friend but I would have to disagree with you on your comments.

Kind Regards

Venatore

Hm, I know all those tactics and played the whole Silent Hunter Series beginning from part 1 back in the DOS ages. And i believe you if you say that you never experienced anything like that, because:

I think i found the reason for the problems -> I did not use a fresh installation (like the GWX readme recommends) and found some edited files that seem to be leftovers from another mod. I will do a complete deinstallation of SH3 and GWX and then reinstall them both.

Before i realized that I had made another tests series and I was "auto" detected as soon as my boat was in a certain radius of a harbour AND Submerged. If staying surfaced nothing happened until I opened fire or was seen. I guess that's a sure sign of a bug/mod conflict.

Thanks Venatore! :salute:

Hi Radio,

As the guy responsible for modification of the sensors in GWX, I can assure you that NO underwater sensor (neither hydrophonic or active sonar) can reach anywhere near 10 km. The sensor modifications and damage models in GWX are by far, two of the most heavily tested elements in GWX.

Enemy watch crews (visual sensors) can indeed see farther than 10 km dependant on crew quality and atmospheric conditions/sea state.

In rough seas and shallow water, which you appear to have been operating in, your conning tower has a tendancy to broach the surface. It is a large enough object... that if it is spotted by a competent crew while you are in shallow water...

... you are as good as dead... early war or late war doesn't matter.

Furthermore, any enemy unit spotting you will "call" any and all available allied anti-submarine assets to assist in the destruction of your sub.

Stay out of shallow water. Many crews and U-boats perished early in the war. It starts tough... and gets tougher... as in-line with history as we could make it within the limitations of the game.

Radio
11-11-09, 02:25 PM
Thanks, will stay out of the shallow water. :salute:

The re-installation seems to have rectified the difficulty problems. I do not know what file or mod caused the problems, but they are solved.

@Commander Gizmo: I sank some Sampans in SH4, does that count? :D

----

My bad luck doesn't leave me (Or better doesn't leave "Kurt von Zollern", my Ex-Kaleun). After a quiet patrol with no detected enemy he managed to sink a Freighter, but needed 3 of the 5 torpedoes on board, the first detonated too early and one torpedo alone couldn't sink the enemy ship, so another torpedo was needed. Then one of ^those boats attacked the sub, but luckily U-17 (with the "lucky Pig" emblem) could sneak away unharmed. After a long and uneventful way home my game seems to have become somewhat corrupted (it is the career I started with the faulty installation) and instead of Kiel my ship docked in Laboe Memorial (!!!) suddenly had a stowaway on board (!!!) and when i tried to launch the mission to return to Kiel the boat collided with something and all were killed (!!!). I tried to save what was left from the patrol, deleted the All-Killed-Save-slot hoping that SH3commander could repair my Laboe autosave but nope, only an error.

Okokok, sometimes life shows you clearly that some things are not wanted, I guess Kurt von Zollern's career is one of those things. ;)

Started a new career from scratch now. "Peter Hasenberg" in his U-54 Type VII. Let's hope he has more luck than his comerade. :DL I do miss my Type II boat, though, I think I will make another career for that as well... Maybe Kurt's brother....:O:

Lesson learned: Always save directly BEFORE entering the harbour...

Here a picture of the 3-torpedo-freighter mentioned above:

After reading it for so many times that radio message is starting to have a counter-productive effect on me, though. Every time I read it i feel so... inferior  :88)

As a small tribute to all of you guys here a screenshot of my worst enemies so far, those boats are like bulldogs and are so small that they are not worth a torpedo.

But it looks so harmless, jimbuna. :88) *famous last words*

As I missed my Type II boat so much, I deleted the Type VII career (Goodbye Peter Hasenberg) and started a new one. On 100% realism settings this time, only the map update is enabled.

May I introduce to you: Bert von Zollern, a brother of the famous and deceased Kurt von Zollern. His ship is the U-10 and has the correct "Pig with Umbrella" emblem of the original U-10.

And in case i didn't mention it before: GWX with SH3Commander rocks!

Does anyone know how to get the ship-shaped map symbols back? Running GWX Gold and they seem to have been removed. I believe they are part of the ship file sets in the SEA folder (xxx_shp.tga perhaps?) but I'd hate to think I'd have to restore and rename each one individually. Is there a mod or some easier way to do this?

Thanks JD

They should appear when you are within visual range.

If you want the tails and colours back try the 'contact colour' mod available from my GWX3.0 FF account (link below my sig).

Hello guys.
After playing many times the official SH3, I've just installed GWX3, which is a fantastic super-mod, but I have a problem there.
I can't see the sub's bearing indicator on the map. I mean I can see the small circle around my position, but not that small line that use to show the current direction. Also the ships/planes, no bearing indicator there too.
I know I have to replace some .tga files, I've tried to find the ones, but no luck. would you give me a hand please? Thank you very much and good hunting.

Hi Vigilante. We removed the directional tails from all contacts because it really gives the player too much detailed information about distant contacts such as convoys etc. (Making it too easy for players to intercept enemy shipping... and contributing to entirely unrealistic tonnage hauls per patrol.)

You can replace the contact tails with this mod from Melnibonian's FileFront page: http://www.filefront.com/13424066/Contact_Lines_for_GWX2.0.rar

However, I encourage you to run one or two full patrols before you re-enable the contact tails. (Getting tonnage too easily will make you bored with the SH3 and GWX anyway. :03:)

Good hunting.

Hi Harleyguy.

When you would uninstall the game, did you use the disk to uninstall... and following the uninstallation did you reboot your PC?

Also, did you download your copy of SH3 or do you have a disk copy?

Additionally, is your copy of SH3 already patched to version 1.4? (If it isn't, you will need to patch it.)

(PS: It may be tomorrow evening before I can reply again... unless someone beats me to it.)

Sorry buddy, I've appplied Contact Lines Mod via JSGME, but it doesn't happened anything. I should install it manually, it's not JSGME ready?
I really would like to have that directional tails, not so much for targets, but at least for my own sub. I tried to compare the stock installation with GWX installation just to get that missing trail, but no luck
Few years ago I worked for a while on a real military submarine, we had to evaluate and replace the batteries pack. We had the opportunity to make a few tests submerged in order to check the old batteries and the ships around us were identified with course, speed, bearing, just like in stock SH3. Of course, it's a modern sub, Kilo class.
Good hunting!

Go to Basic config and change all the renown= to zero on equipment, or copy the basic config in the NYGM 3.0 mod

Hi. I was wondering if it was possible to get the type XXI u-boat at an earlier time, say 1942 and it's related tech. i've tried modifying Basic.cfg before but even if i do get the type XXI u-boat, it's like there are missing pieces like i can't use the flak gun or i don't have radar and sonar absorbent coatings yet and all the related tech. Are there other files i have to modify?

Thanks

I'm in late 44 and yet I've never encountered an allied air patrol. Not even in the Bay of Biscay!! There has only been a few bombings of Bergen (my own home city :wah:) when leaving port.

All I can say is, be careful what you wish for.

When I patrol in '43 onwards, I can't even SNEEZE without attracting aircraft.

(Heavy weather does keep them away though.)

Honestly, I think you've just been lucky. The Bay of Biscay in GWX is crawling with air cover... and I seem to find every one of them. I even once witnessed an AI U-boat being attacked by a Sunderland... that I assumed was headed for me. (In Biscay)

Leaving Trondheim & Bergen isn't much better for me either. Once you leave the fjords... You have to keep your head on a swivel.

I sometimes wish they would come for me.

One thing I think is pretty cool with GWX is that there are so many nations involved. Like yesterday when I was patrolling west of Ireland and decided to head north to get me some renown for the snorkel. I decided to raid a port in Spitsbergen In there I was sunk by two norwegian vessels. Two NORWEGIAN vessels. That's cool. I bet they're not happy with me turning into a U-boat captain... :har:

And that was in 1944. Never guessed the norwegians controlled Spitsbergen.

Allied soldiers were stationed on the island in 1941 to prevent Nazi Germany (http://www.subsim.com/wiki/Nazi_Germany) from occupying the islands. While the island had officially been ceded to Norway (http://www.subsim.com/wiki/Norway) in the 1920s, that country fell under German occupation (http://www.subsim.com/wiki/Occupation_of_Norway_by_Nazi_Germany) in 1940. The majority of inhabitants on the island were Russian (Soviet Union had a non-aggression pact (http://www.subsim.com/wiki/Non-aggression_pact) with Germany until June 22, 1941). The United Kingdom (http://www.subsim.com/wiki/United_Kingdom) and Canada (http://www.subsim.com/wiki/Canada) sent military forces to the island to destroy installations, mainly Soviet coal mines, and prevent the Germans from occupying it.
The German battleship Tirpitz (http://www.subsim.com/wiki/German_battleship_Tirpitz) and an escort flotilla shelled and destroyed the Allied weather station there in Operation Sizilien (http://www.subsim.com/wiki/Operation_Sizilien) in 1943. On 6 September, a squadron consisting of Tirpitz, Scharnhorst and nine destroyers weighed anchor in Altenfjord and Kåfjord and headed for Spitsbergen, to attack the Allied base there. At dawn on 8 September 1943 Tirpitz and Scharnhorst opened fire against the two 3-in guns which comprised the defences of Barentsburg, and the destroyers ran inshore with landing parties. Before noon it was all over. Some prisoners had been taken, a supply dump destroyed, the wireless station wrecked and the landing parties had returned on board. The German ships returned safely to Altenfjord and Kåfjord on 9 September 1943. Although those on board did not yet know it, Tirpitz had carried out her last operation.

Those were the spects on my old computer, but with XP.
For Vista, you really need 4 GB of RAM.
For your best performance, you also need nHancer and either AlacrityPC or GameBooster.
Do not choose VSync in the options, and set particle density low.
To speedup loading, you should use only the campaign file of the region you are patrolling and be careful of adding mods as some will be frame rate killers.
Finally, be sure to activate the"lite harbor traffic" mod.
An added suggestion: save up you nickels and invest in a better computer.:|\\

:06: Not sure what's up here but lets see if I can clarify.

Vista requires a minimum of 2GB RAM just to load it's services and maintain normal running apps.

GWX will run on an additional 1 GB RAM but 2 GB is recommended by most here. TBH you could probably make do with Vista + GWX running on 3GB RAM if you disabled most of Vista's resource hungry crap.

To give you some idea of how stupid Vista (as an OS) is, I merrily ran XP + GWX on 1GB RAM (combined) and still had one of the fastest loading times throughout the community and a very stable game.

irish1958

I never said you couldn't run SH3GWX with less resources. I said for the best performance, you need to consider that Vista is a resource hog, and you need to manage the RAM or risk very low frame rates when things heat up. If you want to maintain good frame rates when there is a whole lot of action, you need more.
On my XP set up with the spects listed above, I encountered a convoy in the Mediterranean, with air attacks and a lot of pissed off destroyers, a couple of them disabled or sinking, several burning merchant vessels, another AI sub and a second air attack.
My frame rate dropped to 1, my system overheated and finally a CTD occured. Except for that, I never had a CTD with all the hours and hours of testing.

To the GWX team.

After nearly a year of dealing with the horrible short comings of SH4, even with operation Monsun, I have gone back to SH3, with this wonderful add on.

It is so nice being able to target something at ALL bearings, not have sudden and unexplained CTDs, Having my crew leave the bridge when the boat goes under the waves!! (that is the nicest part), and just overall be able to enjoy a subsim again. Sh4 had promise, but compared to GWX it is a net loss. Just far too many stupid and unacceptable bugs.

When I go deeper my hull tells me through creaks and groans it is under tremendous pressure, and if I get too close it doesn't just silently pop, like it does in SH4. I can interact with my crew and get what I need.

My chief engineer can actually say "amidships" in German.

Let's see what else? OH YEA. I can have a superb management system like SH3 commander work with the sim, making an already realistic sim, even more so.

So I just have to say, the work you put into this mod has made SH3 an even more playable and challenging subsim.

Thank you.

Hello to all fellow captains.

I've been playing stock SHIII for the past month or so and thought I'd look into mods. Well, I came across GWX and was blown away so I downloaded it, read the instructions carefully, installed it and a few other mods carefully and everything works perfectly! :D

GWX has made SHIII a much much better game in just about every aspect imaginable. Thank God I came across it and didn't spend months playing the stock version! I haven't done any new patrols yet because I'm still searching the forums and whatnot for a few more changes/clarifications but even the escort out of Kiel (testing installations/mods) had me acting like a kid that's discovering what his awesome Christmas toy is and does :yeah:

I have a few questions but I won't ask anything yet because I have read all 600 or so pages of the manual but I've only gotten to reading message 2240 of this thread. I'm reading it all 'cause I'm finding the answers to most of what I'm wondering about this way, plus I'm acquiring important gameplay, realism and historical knowledge. I won't continue my career until I've added what I feel needs to be added and it seems that Commander is also a definite must have.

And great news! My career so far (and all its 8 patrols :D) work just fine! Eight patrols may be nothing but it's taken me over a month to finish them and I'm doing quite well (at 55% realism mind you, now 66% with GWX) so I was very happy when I found my career waiting for me after installing GWX.

Anyway, since I got GWX and became a member here, I thought say hello since I'm lurking around and most of all, a great big thank you to everyone, especially the GWX team and its associates; your dedication and countless hours of hard work have given me and others so much. And that goes for the community in general whose various members have made other mods and above all help anyone and everyone. Just reading the first few dozen pages of this thread made me understand that this is a warm community. Heck, I already feel like I'm in the officer's club whenever I come here in between game play.

Happy Holidays everybody :woot:

Well I finally downloaded GWX
What can I say... now I see why everybody keeps talking about it and in such a positive way. Amazing Job guys, really
Btw I've noticed how much smaller the sun is now (I'm guessing the moon will be the same). Is it suppose to be like that or is it a known issue with the 16 km Atmosphere mod that I've enabled? Any fixes?

Oh, you ain't seen nothin' yet. Wait until you run into the...but that would be telling.

Now you need the Kiel Canal Locks mod, and the...no, Steve, give him time to settle in.

The stock sun and moon are something like four or five times the apparent size of the real ones. I still thought GWX's were too big, so I use a mod that makes them even smaller.

Oh, and have you loaded up SH3 Commander yet? GWX improves the game, and Commander improves the career experience.

So yeah, I have a feeling I'm simply suffering from the I'm just not used to it effect, when it comes to the sun. Hard to imagine you modded it even smaller though, the thing already looks like a golf ball from 300 yards to me. But I probably just need to get used to it.
And yes I'm using SH3 Commander, great mod. Gotta love seeing the name and cargo of the ships you sunk!

Heh heh, I was about to read another 20 or so pages last night but your warm welcome and reply, Sailor Steve, made me drop it all and sail out of Kiel to go huntin' :D

Jimbuna, Kpt Lehmann, I appreciate your camraderie and look forward to seeing you around the officers club here in between patrols. And a quick hello to fellow Canuck IanC; I'm a Greek-Canadian living in Athens and it's always nice to come across fellow Canadians.

Have you ever looked right at the sun? No, wait, don't do that. With the appropriate glare it looks a lot bigger in-game.

I may have misspoken as well. The mod I use only affects the moon, which in real life you can cover with your little finger at arm's length. Still, I love the pictures Jim sometimes posts, with the moon covering half the sky.

That last picture above is "Buck." At 1.5 years old, he is my youngest Golden Retreiver.

George "Bailey" is my older Golden Retriever at 8 years old. (I shouldn't have a favorite... but Bailey is exactly that.)

"Maus" is my black Labrador Retriever and she is also 8.

Anyhow guys, just thought I'd wish you all a Merry Christmas today as I'll be on duty tomorrow and all weekend.:up::up:

(They've twice already tried to get me to come to the station today... Things there are busy as heck there ... and TOMORROW looks to have up to two feet of snow accumulation, with big drifts. Not gonna be fun at all.)

Anyone have a few snowmobiles we can borrow? :-? We've had snow before, but THIS MUCH isn't what my city is prepared for!

The pack in the snow rocks and Buck's quite the character there :hmmm: I imagine Bailey keeps an eye on him.

Simba used to intimidate people during walks but that pic's a couple of years old. Now he's graying! hahahahaha so even old folks go aww and pet him.

If there's one thing I miss it's the snow. It's 20 C here and listening to old xmas songs here with the wife & kid by the fire and no snow outside sucks. So enjoy :)

Merry Christmas, kali ypiresia ("good service shift" roughly translated)

If I may, I'd like to offer a "tip" on installing GWX 3.0.

Post #1 states:

GWX 3.0 MUST be installed over a fresh-clean installation of SH3 patched to version 1.4b.

In the pdf file, it asks that you un-install SH3.

Then re-install it and patch it to v1.4.

I like to play the stock version and am in Febrary of 44 in my current campain.

So what I did was to re-install SH3 and patch it to v1.4. Then made a folder in "My Documents" and titled it "Virgin SH3."

I installed all my mods for the stock game.

Then I took and renamed my "Virgin SH3" game to GWX 3.0. And of course, I had to rename the SH3 icon in the same fashion. Then copied this into the Ubisoft folder. Once this was completed, I sent a "shortcut" to the desktop of the newly named GWX 3.0 icon.

Then I followed the instructions as per:

Run GWX.exe and follow the installation prompts

Except that I installed them into the c:/programfiles/ubisoft/gwx3.0 folder.

Simple. I have the stock game and the GWX Gold version I can play.

I did the same thing with SH4.

I have "Wolves of the Pacific" and "Trigger Maru Overhauled".

Hi everybody.

I'm on my way from Kiel to patrol grid BF15 and have saved my game southeast of Southend, before I sail into the Strait of Dover. The date is August 20th, 1940.

I've read this entire thread and fully realize that with GWX installed, sailing though the Strait is a bad idea, as is attempting to shoot it out with Allied aircraft. I do want to get a taste of good action, though, and it is still early in the war so here are my thoughts which end with a question:

I'm chuggin' along on the surface (closer to France than England), it's daytime (morning) and my crew spotted a couple of "convoys" consisting of 9 Axis aircraft apiece heading towards England. It's the Battle of Britain! Since I've got friendlies above heading for an airborne attack, isn't it a ripe moment to stick around and engage the RAF?

Will British AI aircraft be busy in combat against the Luftwaffe above me so I can assist in the fight? In short, will RAF AI aircraft have to contend both with the Luftwaffe and me or will they ignore/not engage Luftwaffe AI aircraft and instead focus only on me?

If it's the former, it should be a very interesting fight :D If not, there won't be much point engaging for a few seconds, only to spend the rest of the day eluding a dedicated assault/hunt against my VIIC.

Jimbuna
12-29-09, 07:04 AM
You would be ill advised to tackle aircraft at any time, nevermind the fact your in shallow water http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/pirate.gif

fireblade918gr
12-29-09, 07:22 AM
Even when the Battle of Britain is raging overhead and Allied air coverage isn't yet extensive, hmm.

It does seem like the most opportune time during the war to make such an attempt, in other words to try and get in a few pot shots if Allied AI aircraft actually do engage incoming Bf-109s etc. Of course the Royal Navy will still hunt me down regardless.

Maybe I'll try it out today if I feel suicidal enough, just to see how it plays out :yep:

Thanx for the reply.

P.S. I imagine there's no point in giving flak and gunner qualifications, then, is there...

P.S. I imagine there's no point in giving flak and gunner qualifications, then, is there...

On the contrary...whilst I subscribe to the theory that air v sub is a one sided affair in the main, there will come the time when your caught on the surface and have no choice but to fight it out. Better to be as well prepared as possible http://www.psionguild.org/forums/images/smilies/wolfsmilies/pirate.gif
