The messages_en file in GWX 3.0 Line 253 seems to have a timmer setting error, easy player/user fix with a text editor.
Current:

Should be:

Did you remember to un-install the mods folder from the previous install you had if not remove it from the Ubisoft/SilentHunterIII folders in program files or wherever you had it installed.:hmmm:
I didn't have any modes installed before re-installing SH3.
Except from SH3-Commander wich I rolled back.

Maybe that solves your prob...

No, found at ..:\Progam Files\UbiSoft\SilentHunterIII\ [or whereever you installed it] --> delete the UbiSoft or SilentHunterIII folder :03:
I uninstalled it via the 'software' list, this uninstalled everything except the file in 'my documents' .
I'll uninstall it again and try again...
Still won't work...
Uninstalled SH3, 'my documents' folders. Folders in the SH3 sirectory that weren't removed automatically but still the same error message.
It also says it must be updated to 1.4.
Now I noticed I have an update called ''from 1.3 to 1.4b'' , but in the installation window it shows version 1.3, maybe that's the problem. I've downloaded it from filefront.
Update: This is bull****! Just to be sure I downloaded the 1.3 to 1.4b patch from subsim and still the same error message. I removed everything correctly before reinstalling, patch correct, roll back SH3-commander, what else can I do?

This detection of mods present is usually caused by JSGME it has a hidden file usually within the mods folder so even if the folder looks empty its not.
The only other thing I can suggest is you un-install SH3-commander then try again.
ok just to check you are installing SH3 then the patch 1.4 and then GWX3.0 gold.
and dont forget if you are using Vista after deliting files shut down your computor and leave it off for over a minute so it clears its V memory.
then turn it on and then Re-install
Good Luck
Where can I find the mods folder, can't find it in the SH3 directory.
Yeah, I also tried it after uninstalling SH3-Commander, didn't make a difference.

What's the md5 checksum of your GWX3_Full.exe single file? If it's not d41d8cd98f00b204e9800998ecf8427e the file is corrupted.
What OS are you using - WinXP or Vista?

Hi, I think your work is great and cant wait to try this out. As I am really new to computors and sims can someone just steer me in the right direction. I installed sh3...patched it to v1.4 and am ready to start. Firstly: is gwx 3.0 the same as gwx gold as I see references to 3.0 and 3.0 gold.
after I have installed gwx does it have a menu option to alter values or is it a programme that changes and enhances the game with set values.
After I have the game with gwx added can I add the jscones mod enabler to run alongside?
Do most other mods run with gwx or should I have 2c copies of the game 1 with just gwx and the other with the mod enabler and mods.
How does sub commander work in amongst all this? does it work with the mod enabler or is it an alternative to it/
Sorry for all the newb questions but I want to try to get as much from the game as possible. What I would really like to end up with is sh3 with the brilliant mods you guys have added but the ability to add and try other mods without ruining the game. Thanks Jim.

GWX3.0 and Gold are the same thing, as far as I know.
GWX3.0 modifies the orginal SH3 directory, and I don't think it can really be reversed once you install it other than deleting everything SH3 via Add/remove programs and manually deleting the rest; or maybe, by making a complete copy of the SH3 directory beforehand and just overwriting everything. Don't know anything about multiple installs, haven't tried it.
The mod enabler program comes with GWX3.0. A shortcut for it should be added to your desktop. And GWX3.0 has some mods preloaded (if you wanna call it, preloaded) into the program. Such as the 16km mod, and other stuff. Details of the added mods are in that huge .pdf manual that comes with GWX. That mod enabler is dependant on a certain directory structure that's inside an added "mod" directory that is located in the orginal SH3 game directory. You can pretty much add any mods you want in there as long as you follow the directory stucture of the game. You'll notice that the mods follow the SH3 directory structure that is in the SH3's "data" directory.
Sh3 Commander in an outside program. It's a front end loader. It's completely independent of the game and GWX. Although, GWX has some files that need to be added/overwritten into SH3 commander to make it fully compatible. You'll find the compatibility patch at the main GWX site.
In order to use SH3 Commnader, it requires you to exit out of the game after completing each patrol. And it requires you to start the game with it's own start button. So, it's an outside program, really. It also has it's own mod section built into it that you can mess with via toggle type checkboxes. And a thermal layer mod is built into it, too (no toggle for that). Although it's done more as an illusion than actually adding any physical thermal layers into the game. It just disables enemy sensors after a randomized set depth. A depth that remains an unknown, to the player and re-randomizes every time you restart SH3 with SH3commander.
And for your first patrol on a new campaign, it's recommended to not add any sub enhancements. The orginal SH3 has a glitch where it will not record your sunk tonnage, if you do. After that first patrol you can then add all the enhancements you want... At least, this is what is said in the GWX manual... Me, myself, have never bothered testing that rule. The other way to bypass the glitch is just end the 1st patrol as soon as it begins, or so it says....

From the SH3 Commander User Guide:
What is a 'Weddigen'?
Prior to 1 January 1940, the 1st Flotilla was known as U-Flotilla 'Weddigen', the 2nd Flotilla as U-Flotilla 'Saltzwedel' and the 7th Flotilla as U-Flotilla 'Wegener'. SH3 Commander includes a mod which ensures that these correct names are used prior to 1 January 1940.

I have gotten that message when I switched over to 3.0, too. You have to uninstall everything.
I mean, you have to delete the directories manually. Even the SH3 directories that are in the My documents foldier.
Although... before doing that, I suggest going into the SH3 directory, and try deleting the foldier called, Mod. Maybe it'll be enough? If that doesn't work, then go to add/remove programs, remove SH3... and then delete all the SH3, foldiers manually. Including any you find in, My Documents.
And start installing from the beginning, all over again...

Yes you can't just use your add and remove programs found in your control panel options. You have to also go in to your C:programs/silenhunter3file and manually delete it too. Before you do any of this, you might want to back up your save game file, and you can also save your mods folder so you don't have to reinstall those.

1. Insert your game disc and select the 'uninstall' option
2. Check C\Proram files and ensure the SH3 file has gone.....if it is still there delete it
3. Go to C\MyDocs and delete the SH3 folder contained within
4. Carry out a registry clean (optional but adviseable)

Sorry if this is in the wrong place. But I really didn't want to wade through a couple hundred pages to find a possible remedy.
I mailed GW about my problems but haven't yet received a reply. I downloaded (into vista) the 3.0 Gold pack and followed directions.
I get three warnings when trying to load the game.
1: menu ID 0x1a000008 not found
2: Page Ingame Options not found
3: Something about a Stuka.
Any ideas?
I'm getting problems with GWX Gold too.
I'm using XP and have had no probs with earlier versions of GWX. I've even tried downloading the files again from a different source including the 1.4b patch. Followed the install instructions to the letter, and everytime I try to run it, it ends up crashing to desktop just when the gameplay screen should appear...ie when the mission or career has loaded and it's about to switch to the game screen, which makes me think it may be a graphics card issue but I've never had probs before with anything!!. Also I can run the tutorials ok!!!, but nothing else.
Any help or advice would be appreciated guy's....

GWX must be added to an unmodified, fresh install of SHIII, patched to 1.4b. Any deviation from this will usually lead to all sorts of horrors and is rumored to give the player hemorrhoids.
The menu item means you have a mod conflict so you must be trying to add GWX to a modified install.

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I need help.
I've got this weird savegame bug, playing the game everything is perfect with no problems.
The problems show when I load a save. It loads just fine, but just a few seconds in to play, the game over screen pops up and says that the U-boat has abandonded the mission.
Not only does it end my game it also ends my campaign!
I'm using GWX 3.0, clean install on a vista machine. (It more than meets the recomended specs)
Hi all,
I am just playing my first real career with GWX and it is great! Thanks to all involved for creating this great mod! Unfortunately, I have encountered two small issues.
1. I am playing with the Typ IIA at the moment and after a crash dive the camera in the comand room stays in a steep angle although the boat has already leveled out. Is there any trick to get a leveled view again in the game?
2. I have done now 8 patrols with the IIA and sunk roughly 60 000 tons, but I could not yet promote anyone from my crew. Quite a few of the guys have enough experience for the next rank, but I can only give medals to them. Is it supposed to be like that or is there something wrong with my installation or with using SHCommander?
Thanks in advance for any help and thanks again for the great mod.
Cheers, LGN1
Are you waiting to promote/assign jobs to the crew when at sea or in harbour.I think you can only do that with SH commander in harbour. Also if youre using GWX3 make sure you have the SH3 Commander GWX3 files installed.
Thanks for the reply. I would like to promote them in the game (after patrol when you can also give medals), not in SHCommander.
GWX files for SHCommander are installed and working fine. I don't think it is connected to SHCommander.
Does anyone know what are the criteria for being allowed to promote crew members?

Gawen,
Jimbune is right; you have residual files somewhere on your machine; A "menuIDxxxxxxxnot found means that your menu_1064_768.ini file is screwed-up and is looking for something that is either is not there or has been replaced it when it wasn't supposed to have been.
If it is a Vista machine, it might be in "virtual store". If it XP, it is probably time to format your hard drive and start over. When I was running XP I would format my hard drive every 12 months or so, and it is amazing how many problems disappeared.
LGN1, I don't know why your control room is tipped. You haven't been into the rum cabinet have you?
How the game promotes is a mistery to me. I use CMDR to do it, and if necessary goose up the renown and experience in the cfg files (as CMDR will not promote unless you meet the criteria.)

It's Vista. But, really, I don't want to spend the time screwing around with it.
Too bad this 3.0 mod isn't on a disc and available for a small nominal fee.
Thanks to this thread
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=136442&highlight=diving+angle&page=4
I could reproduce the bug and find a fix. It happens if one clicks on the chief engineer (he turns around) during a crash dive and 'un'-clicks him again during the dive. After this procedure the view is tilted (at least in the IIA). However, if one waits with 'un'-clicking until the boat has leveled out again the view is fine.
If the view is tilted one can fix it by doing a crash dive, clicking on the chief engineer, and waiting until the boat levels out.
Concerning the promotions: I have used the search function to look for any information about what determines whether you are allowed to promote crew members. Unfortunately, I have not found any solid data. If it depends only on the success of the previous patrol it is not surprising that it is very hard to get promotions for your crew with a IIA boat because you have only 5 torpedos.
Cheers, LGN1

Great job on the GWX. I really like it except the large sliding out compass and the engineers report and stopwatch / repeater. Is it possible to remove them? how?

The repeater I can't help with right now, but you can just put the cursor on the shadow below the bottom of it and move it completely off the top of the screen. It will stay gone until the next time you load the game, when you'll have to do it again.

My first patrol and I hit a patch of land on my way out of the Kiel canal, while following the preplotted course. :hmmm:
You'll need to review the GWX manual on the Kiel canal egress/ingress preplotted course. It works flawlessly as long as it is used properly. Have tested it myself.
If you let the course through kiel canal be plotted while you're still docked, it works just fine.
But if you travel a few 100's of meters before using the plotting optin it might already be unable to work because the course gets plotted from your current position on and is not directly related to the canal or the land surrounding it. It is just a fixed route that origins at your current position.
That's why you need to do it as the manual says, when still being docked at kiel.

04-13-09, 04:41 PM
Oh, you mean in the game; I thought you had a personal problem that was too delicate to talk about.
In the game (and in real life) torpedos will detonate early due to many factors, including running too shallow, defective triggers, rough seas and a host of other factors. Yes, this would alert a convoy to danger and get your sub in a whole lot of trouble.
This is not a bug in the game.
Hi to all, I've a problem with sonar icon. When I ask to sonarman to find the ship distance by sonar ping (clicking on both the approximate and acurate finding icon), the game quits with CTD! Anyway, I can ping myself the ship and all is clean.
Is there a fix for this issue?
(this issue came with GWX installation, so I posted here. I have other mods in my SH3, it could be a conflict?)
thx!

Oh, you mean in the game; I thought you had a personal problem that was too delicate to talk about.

Ok. In my situation it didn't alert the convoy so is this a bug?

At times I've seen them alert the Escorts.
Other times the detonations don't.
Guess the look outs were looking the other way then.
If it's a bug, it's from the Game Code itself,
not GWX stuff.

I don't know. I have tried the active radar and have instructed the radio (radar) operator to search, but I have never used it for distance info. I am sure somebody else has. I suggest you ask in the general mods workshop, as some people never read the stickys.

Hi,
I have trouble to install GWX 3, I used GWX 2 without any problems.
Heres the scenario
I tried to install GWX+SH3 on two systems..
1 My Laptop, fresh XP SP3 System, never used SH3 on this one>error
2 My Games PC (XP+SP3) I uninstalled SH3+GWX2, did a registry clean and than I tried to reinstall SH3 and GWX3>error. >
I guess the GWX installer checks some files of the SH3 install, maybe the "Gold" Version is different. For Example I don't need the CD to play, I don't need to enter a CD Key, I don't need to patch (already 1,4)
I only have the "Gold Version"

Odd!
The Gold Version (aka Starforce Free) of SH3 should only differ with 5
files, these are:
MissionEngine.dll
sh3.exe
SimData.dll
StateMachine.dll
Utils.dll
As far as I know the GWX installer does not check these files to see if they're modified. IIRC, it checks the campaign, basic.cfg file size (+ one other I can't remember) and the sh3.exe version number to see if it differs from what it expects to see in a stock 1.4b installation, aswell as checking to see if the SH3 folder in My Documents is still present (?).
I wonder if you could run a little test? There are folder compare tools (free & trial versions) available that can generate a report (either txt or HTML) that lists the contents & file sizes of a designated folder. It might be of use to get a report from your SH3 Gold version so that it can be compared to an original disc installed version.
I personally use Beyond Compare 3 (http://www.scootersoftware.com/) but there are freeware versions available, like this one http://no-nonsense-software.com/printfolder/

It's included within GWX, you just need to enable it.
Check your Silent Hunter Installation directory and look for a JSGME icon, run it. Refer to the GWX manual for info on each modelet included with a GWX install.

I never get lines because I run at 100% realism, but I have found that if I am locked onto a target in the periscope it becomes impossible to get a hydrophone report about it.
Kpt. Lehmann
04-17-09, 09:53 PM
The only modifications I made to the player U-boat underwater sensors, related to the sweep arcs and maximum ranges for the GHG and KDB hydrophones.
The GHG hydrophone ("Gruppenhorchgerät" ... early war hydrophone in SH3) was modified to correctly represent a 10-15 degree dead-zone directly ahead... as the GHG hydrophone could not be focused dead ahead in RL due to its design.
The KDB hydrophone ("Kristalldrehbasisgerät") was modified to ensure the available sweep covered most of the compass bearing.
Both player hydros have a dead space to the rear, representing the U-boat hull, engines, and internal noise etc.
Both player hydrophones were also modified to represent maximum ranges more accurately within the confines of the SH3 platform.
I did not modify the active sonar.
I suggest reviewing the GWX manual concerning late-war sensors in GWX.
To get the most out of available late war sensors modifications in GWX you need to enable the "GWX-Late War Sensors and Snorkel Antennas" included optional mod via JSGME.
I don't think it is related, but we also corrected a stock bug affecting a couple of the U-boats that caused a "Sonar device destroyed" message to be displayed in certain circumstances.
Fatigued crew with sonar/hydrophone training can also cause detection failures.
I hope this helps.
Without knowing the U-boat type, sonar unit being used, and the year in service in-game... I don't know what else to look at. Tis the first I've heard of this problem.

Don't take this wrong (I've had it happen to me when I get busy or distracted), but are you sure that you have a crew member in the sonar slot in the crew management screen? I'm pretty sure you won't get any reports if you don't have anybody in that crew slot.

If your positive you have a fresh installation and hve deleted the SH3 folder in C/MyDocs there are residual files somewhere on your computer.
Uninstall using the game disc...ensure the SH3 folder in C/MyDocs is deleted...run a registry clean, then reinstall as per the instructions on the GWX website (click on my sig).

Can I hazard a guess? Is this a disc based version of SH3 that is already patched to 1.4b, Starforce Free and does not require the disc to run?
I also assume that you have not added JSGME or SH3 Commander to the default SH3 Program Folder. The GWX 3.0 installer has some specific tests that it runs and if it finds certain files/folders within the program directory it will return a 'Modded' result.
TBH, if this is the GOLD Version of SH3 you're not the first to say that the GWX Installer fails.:hmmm:
Answer the above questions. Then I might have another test you can run to see what's causing the conflict. I can't port it here as it would detrimental to many peoples install procedures.
EDIT - A bump for Jim's suggestion (sorry I run 40 posts per page so I don't know if yours wil carry over).

I am having a problem with map contacts with gwx3.
I aint got none!!
I recently dusted off my copy of SH3 and decided to upgrade to GWX3 (it has been a while since I played SH3
Installations seemed to go ok
SH3
GWX3
New version of SH3 commander
OLC gold
No other mods
I set my realism just like I used to do in GWX2
Limited Fuel deselected
No map contacts deselected
No event camera deselected
No Stabilize view deselected
No weapon officer assistance deselected
Everything else selected. Under my old configuration this gave me a realism rating of 80%. This time, however, it is up to 95% :hmmm:
The problem is when I play, I have no map updates. I have tired rebooting, selecting and deselecting No map contacts. No change.
When I select No map contacts the realism does not change. I don't remember this with my old version of GWX.
I tried using the world famous forum search function on this forum, but could not find any posts that addressed this :damn:
In my desperation, I even read the manuals!:know:
Since I could not find anything that addresses this, I have come to the conclusion that I am doing something simple but wrong.
Any help would be greatly appreciated :salute:

ThanksThe MD5 file is a program that tests the file integrity of your GWX download or any other mods you may wish to add on later.
There is more harbour traffic with GWX. But if you PC can't handle it there is a Lite harbour mod that is included. In general there are much bigger convoys than in stock SH3, and i'm sure i'm leaving something's out, so I'll let the experts chime in.

Hello people.
I haven't been around for I don't know how long; and after checking my old discs the most up to date GWX I have is 1.3.
I promised myself I was just going to run vanilla, but after visiting here again I'm going to go with the latest version of GWX
I seem to remember a stability problem when saving games before - is that still around? i don't have the playing time I used to, so there's going to be lots of saving done.
And as well as GWX and Commander, is there any new content that's pretty necessary? With that in mind, my computer isn't too great (see my signature below).
Thanks for any help. And my continued appreciation for the people behind this mod who give up their time.

You need the new CMDR;
Yor rig should run GWX 3.0;
To be on the safe side, however, burn your present SHIII folder to DVD and you can restore it to your present setup in a few minutes if you don't like the new setup.

Nerazzurri, you can't go wrong with GWX 3.0, in my humble opinion. It is the mod of choice for my career and in multiplayer.
Your vid card is in doubt. It can run the game with GWX 3.0 installed, but you may need to crank some settings down a bit to get the best performance. I stress the word "may" because the Grey Wolves have taken pains to make sure the mod will run surprisingly well on older hardware.
I know that GWX 2.0 ran decently on my old nVidia FX 5200 128MB card, but I had to turn off High Quality Textures, Synchronize, and set Particles to 50 in the game's Video Options, then I had to adjust my video card's settings where anti-aliasing was 2x, anisotropic filtering was 4x, and mip-map filtering was set to "performance". Even so, large explosions, like a tanker going up in flames, would cause some lag when viewing it.
I do not believe you'll be able to use the GWX 16km Atmosphere mod, though. You can try it but doubling the visual (and thus the rendering) range will probably bring your vid card to a struggling stutter.
I hope you will check out the consolidated and reorganized Silent Hunter Multiplayer section here at the Radioroom. As good as career mode is, finding the right bunch of fellows to sail with in multiplayer really gives you the feel of a true wolfpack.
Wherever you choose to play, I highly recommend either bigboywooly's GWX 3.0 Online Gaming Mod or my own CSP Online Mod v1.0 for GWX 3.0. Both drastically reduce load times for multiplayer games to about one minute or less.
Welcome back to the Ubootwaffe! :salute:

Thank you, to both of you.
Graf, I realise that my GPU is the weak point in my system, I just can't do much better with an AGP slot. Thanks for the setting suggestions.
From memory, I think the 16k environment mod was around the last time I was here, and I just didn't bother trying it, because of my GPU; so nothing's changed I'm afraid.
Regarding online play - I just don't have the time; I snatch half an hour here and an hour there. I enjoyed TripleA (pbem), but I don't even do that anymore, because although I can make a few moves one day I might not make another move for three or four days, and I just don't like messing people around.
One question remains - stability? Is GWX quite stable? because I seem to remember some issues before; maybe I'm wrong.
Again, thanks for the help people.

Hello people.
I seem to remember a stability problem when saving games before - is that still around? i don't have the playing time I used to, so there's going to be lots of saving done.
After losing many careers due to game saving problems I asked...this thread has saved me many headaches:

Ahhh, now that's what I remember.
Thank you.
EDIT: the multiple save option seems like a reasonable workaround. I'll give it a go and see what happens, but if it spoils the GWX experience SH3 will be going back on the shelf.
Apologies to all for taking up the GWX thread with this.

I think irish is referring to, *ahem*, "shore leave". :03:
Such activities could be regarded as combat training, depending on the port. :O:
GWX has come a long way since you last played it. There have been numerous bug fixes not even covered by the last official patch and more features added than there's room here to list. I think you'll be very happy with the results.
One more tip, in case you get a lot of lag and stutters while leaving port: Use the optional Lite Harbor Traffic mod. LHT reduces the number of ships and aircraft in and around the harbors to reduce the load on your system.
Here's hoping you manage to find more time to sail the open seas, Neraz. :salute:

Does anyone have the SH3 Gwx 3.0 with the 1.4 patch on a download or disc that the hard drive will keep so you will not need the disc to play everytime?
Hello.
Sorry to bother you GWX guys, but i have a problem with under keel fish shots...
I remember in gwx 2.0 well spine break shots make ships instant death in most cases, or in worst case make it stop steamin and waiting for coup de grace but in 3.0 gold...
they steamed away from spot where they earn backboone pain.
This happens to many times... no matter small or big, Passanger/Cargo or Big/Medium Merchant, feels like they are armored or filled with kevlar hellium balloons hehe...
Ok and another thing...
Warships are too fragile;
Today i make my patrol route near Orkneys and fortune smile to me because i found lonely illustrious class carrier, so i have make my calculations etc, but only one fish found her target and that was it... she starts cover in with big fireball and sink rapidly.
Later in same patrol i have make contact with taskforce:
Southampton and Fiji class, again one torpedo, one hit...:88)
Sorry to tell, but i found this not too well balanced or maybe i made too much bad mod combination...

You might be surprised. You can get some pretty powerful cards for AGP, and of course some not-so-powerful cards which are cheap (less than a new mainstream game) but still a big improvement on a 6200.

Yeah? I didn't know. The last time I looked, maybe about 18 months ago, this was the best I could get. What should I be looking for now?
EDIT: Sorry mate! It's not AGP , I don't know what made me think that - it's PCI, not even PCI express. I looked at the PDF manual for my Dimension 3000 and realised I'd made a mistake.
So it's standard PCI.

First post on GWX-ish site so forgive me if I missed a thread.
Was running GWX 2.0 fine on WinXP(MCE), decided to donate and upgrade to 3.0. Install appears to go great, but after career load all I get is CTD when load tries to progress to "Mission." Fabulous little Microsoft "do you want to send error report" msg and all. Generic clean 1.4b install, no JGSME updates yet selected from desktop. Re-downloaded, re-deleted folders, etc. current drivers, Adobe, all the goop per instructions.
I'm back to 2.0 until I get this sorted.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Anyone having similar issues?

Wellcome to subsim.com :salute:
Your problem seems related to a not complete uninstall of the previous SH3/GWX install. Sometimes there are left overs in the windows register, someone will be able to help you better than me, as I remember having seen many threads around with instructions for a cleaner unistall/reinstall.
Unfortunately I have done the same. I've installed several times in the last two weeks, and tried everything to get this to run on my xps710 , 4 gigs of memory, quad 266mhz proc., twin sli 8800gtx nvidea cards; to no avail.
I love this game, but it always crashes after a kill, or after a save, or even
if I try to up time to 256 in game. I'm frustrated. It must be the quad processors, or maybe the nvidea 8800gtx cards have an issue? I'm ready to go back to my old computer. Right now, all I can do is play SH3, plain, without any of the graywolves additions? I wish I had an answer for you,
but I do not.:damn:
I uninstall with a windows program that completely wipes the hard drive of any left over files. This doesn't help. It still crashes.
I also run Win XP Media Center Edition. Maybe this is the cuprit? I always end up with a win msg saying: Silent Hunter 3
Needs to close, etc. It's always an ntdll issue it says????
On the bright side, while I'm actually in the game: GWX3 is beautifull. Thanks to the Dev Team for the many hours of hard work. What a wonderful addition to SH3!!! Also, any donation to this site, is money well spent! Thanks again guys.

If this is the case or otherwise would you be kind enough to send Kpt. Lehmann a PM....he is extremely busy in RL atm but does pop over onto SS as time permits.

Yes;
Use SH3CMDR to vary the reload time, and the options in the SH3 game itself ("realistic reload")
In addition Jimbuna has an excellent set of mods for the deck gun, listed in the SH3 download section under "gameplay mods."

If a forum rules infraction were to occur, I am quite sure that the appropriate Mods Workshop moderators (Hitman, AVG_Warhawk, and/or ReallyDeadPoet) will happily intercede.
Quietly advising a member in the right direction does NOT constitute any sort of disrespect, and I have given no reason for you or anyone else to read too deeply into my post... Currently there is no need for intercession by any moderator.
Thanks.

As this thread appears to be well on the way to hitting a half-million views today... and since we have long passed seeing 150,000 user downloads...
... I thought I'd just take a moment to thank our users for their interest in the work we have shared over the years.
At the end of the day, it is ultimately the user base that has allowed us to enjoy the surreal level of success that our project has enjoyed.
I know it is impossible for us to make everyone happy... but thank you all the same for your votes of confidence. Hopefully someday you will forgive us for the parts ya didn't like. ;)
Knowing that we made a lot of people happy, and maybe given you all a bit of occasional escape from the constant distress of real life...
... makes the years of hard work and trying times surrounding the construction of GWX... worth it in the end.
Thanks guys.

Far from being a stupid question...a bit more like you just haven't come across the answer yet:
The port escorts are scripted to 'loop' if you hang about you'll eventually come across one, but it's much quicker to look at the charts of your port in the top left hand corner of your navigation screen and sail in unescorted.

Do you have two installs, one vanilla SHIII and one GWX 3.0?
If so, you should have two installs of CMDR and use multi-install.
You then point one CMDR to SHIII and the other to GWX.
CMDR will search and find the Ubisoft/SilentHunterIII install. If it can't find it, it will ask you where it is.

I use a handful of GWX mods combined with Torp Damage Final, Water Stream for U-Boats, and Lifeboat & Debris. I can't remember the names of who did those, but they definitely make it amazing too! SH3 Commander has also made it a wonderful experience!

Owner20071963, what you are engaging in now is pure and simple trolling.
Tis really quite childish and small for one calling himself a 'moderator'. You have indeed made a mountain out of a mole-hill.
Furthermore, I'm sure that leaning on the idea that you are somehow 'serving the community' by whinging on and on about that mole-hill doesn't cut the mustard with anyone who can see straight.
Given your obvious attitude problem, and your statement that, [B]"May I say all what was said on Teamspeak by that person, cannot be posted here" loudly suggests that you did plenty to poison the community well.

For years now (long before Owner20071963 arrived) the GWX team has readily assisted newcomers to Subsim and GWX users both new and old. Anyone implying that we are somehow 'not serving the community' should stop using drugs.
This thread was created to assist GWX users with GWX matters. No one should feel put off if directed to a more appropriate venue to meet personal wishes. If for example: you would like to have purple torpedoes and green water... you will calmly be directed elsewhere. It isn't at all our responsibility to assist with personal modification wishes.
That being said, when your wishes are posted in an appropriate (new or old) thread, it may well be a GWX teamer that helps you find or do what you'd like.
Owner20071963, my advice you you regarding this little vendetta you've developed with me and/or GWX... is to take it up with Neal Stevens before you embarrass yourself further. The door for private conversation between you and myself is closed, as you have exhausted that option. You will need to find some other way to deal with your angst.
To everyone else, there are wet blankets in every crowd. This crowd is OBVIOUSLY no different! :shucks: If you need help with GWX related matters... this is the place. Just do your best to ignore the trolls and post your query anyway. We'll get ya runnin'!

Can anyone help me out here, and i apologize in advance if this question has already been asked, but I cannot seem to find an answer to this.
I have a clean SH3 install, patched to version 1.4, and I have downloaded all GWX3 files. :yeah:
however, when I try to run .exe, it tells me "Runtime Error (at 52:371): The source file is corrupted.":hmmm:
I have tried deleting the files, and re downloading GWX from a few different sites, but always get the same issue.:damn:
has anyone else encountered this? please help, I loved the older GWX and can't wait to try the new one.
I am on Vista 32. on a Sony Viao laptop. my old SH3/GWX worked fine on here... but gotta keep up with the Jones' . Thanks!

The install of SHIII must be a fresh, unaltered install, patched to 1.4b. The GWX download must be checked with the md5 to insure a vaild download. The install should be outside of the program and program (86) folders.

Hi Schuppo, welcome aboard!
There was some earlier discussion during development regarding a 'printer-friendly' version of the manual.
I'll talk to Pablo and get back to you here. Just give me a couple of days if you would.
(Wouldn't it be cool if we could give out hard-back copies of Pablo's awesome work? :D)

Hello,
Firstly let me say I LOVE the mod. It is the only reason I'm still playing the game. GWX has turned an ok game into an amazing simulation.
I've recently upgraded to the Windows 7 RC1 and I'm having some issues with the sky textures. During some weather conditions, usually clear daytime skys, I get a strange black sky texture.
I've included a screenshot at

Anyone else had this problem or know a solution?

I like very much the mod,and is amazingly done.
Regards the rose of the wind that comes up on the right side, i just might add, was a little too bright white for me at night, thinking maybe a color like the other side's dials could be easier on the eyes.
Other matter is that I really miss the big flags and names at sides of the hulls in many neutral ships (some illuminated at night), so is there any known mod to mod =.= this up?
A Splendid job your doing, chaps
kind regards

I noticed the german (supposedly) crew still sigh or screams "Oh my God!"
when there are deaths on deck (maybe underwater too?)
i'm getting up new audio for these by agony / screaming files with no words.
My question is... this "Oh my God!" files are heard when someone of the crew is dying? If its the case, i'll will replace it and if works well, post the mod.:yep:

Apologies for my late response. My availability is very limited these days.
I've seen this issue crop up with a number of different users, and a number of threads here have addressed it. (Though my search for those threads has yielded nothing.)
In a nutshell, you now have a corrupt installation. My impression is that the changes to your operating system may have had a role to play in your problem... in which case, a full re-installation of SH3 + GWX should fix it. (You had no black-sky problem before the changes to your OS, right?)
Otherwise, you may want to consider optional mods that you have placed on top of GWX. They may not be fully compatible with GWX and/or may have been installed incorrectly.
Let us know how you get on.

Hi Nictalope,
The sound in SH3 is unfortunately often unidirectional... when it should be omnidirectional. (This problem is related to SH3... and is not caused by GWX.)
What I mean to say, is that if you are facing the wrong way... you can completely miss the sound of depth charges while you are inside the sub etc.
Crew speech in SH3 (and GWX as a result) is certainly affected by this limitation.
Also, if you are viewing your sub from the outside, much of the crew speech is not audible to the user. You must position your viewpoint to be on or inside the sub.
I don't think that a mod will be able to change the unidirectional nature of sounds in SH3.
However, if you know how to edit the sound settings in SH3, or feel that you'd like to make an add-on mod for GWX... feel free to start a new thread and explore that. I'd be interested in seeing the results myself.

Perhaps (and evidently) my english is as bad as I thought.
I was talking about not the direction of sound
but to the english voice "oh my god", i.e. during an air attack when am on deck and i check into my crew and some guy is dead. These "Oh my God" files r present in stock SHIII too.
I just intended to change those english expression (for the german voice option) of "Oh, my God" for some agonizing or screams sound files, much more according to the attack/wounded issue :O:
Just i wanted to know if that "Oh, my God" sound files are triggered by a dead crew. So i can change them.

Well, if you are playing GWX with English voices enabled... I really recommend that you switch to German speech in the main game menus.
Otherwise, if I have again misunderstood you, I don't think that a crewman must actually killed to trigger those sound files. If I recall correctly... they are triggered either by crewmen being wounded... or by the boat taking heavy damage.:hmmm:
You'll have to run a series of experiments to find out.

This is a bug I'm not subject to, but I noticed that they shout: "OH MEIN GOTT" when a comrade is killed. In the heat of it, with the engines running at maximum RPMs and the 20mm Flaks chewing through their ammunition, depth-bombs exploding and so on, it has once or twice sounded like someone shouting "Oh my God" in English. My point: It may not be the game, it may just be your ears playing tricks.

So the last thing is remember some god when you really lay there hurting,
all your comrades running up and down, the Flak firing till ooze burning oil and grease, and the plane engines screaming down on the tin sardine, which tries desesperately to dive and turn...
so I eliminated that idillic, mapled, god rememberance  and substituted for screams or scream, not samples from a non-feeling scream done in a basement, but a good full-lung fine scream of pain which I pitch shifted, stretched and other audio things to make diferent ones...
and tested in battle letting die my brave crew :O: and works quite well actually, having heard those screams from the interior and outside too and make a good mix when all is chaos.
So battle screams mod will be shortly here

Well Nictalope, some would argue that God may be the FIRST thing you think about when you lay there dying...
... However, before this turns into an off-topic debate on death and religion... lets leave editorial comments on God, out of the picture here. Such things can easily be found to be offensive.
I'm all for variety though... as it keeps things interesting.
I would appreciate it if you would kindly continue discussions relating to your modwork on your new thread. This thread is for matters relating to the GWX mod itself.
Thanks.:arrgh!:

Having used GWX for not so long, I discovered  not only a wide variety of ships in enemy ports, but also the AI inteligence improved, since once got inside some port to see if i could catch something juicy and was a nice liner, but neutral :O: , and another good-sized ship, but was a hospital :O:, and some different steamers which most were neutral too :O:, and the english ones were smal small :O:, and then i saw a heavy cruiser and as i maneouvred to shoot some asw boat came too close, I got freaked out, started to shoot torpedos sinking it and every asw and destroyer which came to see what the noise was about, in short, made a mess, ran outta torpedoes, so went out and from near ports were approaching like 5 or 6 more asw and destroyers some straight to the port's mouth and some further, as if they were trying to cut my way, but still somewhat lack of experience as early 1940 asw should be, but they were good at guessing the outtings of the port.
I was really delighted with that, and also the difficult aiming with cannon at long ranges and the almost complete lack of stabilization at stormy weather, as should be.
The search light in cargos, etc, and the ability to blow those bloody shiners away too. :haha:
Really enjoying this mod :D

how's GWX renown system, just give for enemy ship sunk, isnt it?
what if a get the neutrals, etc? Do i get renown penalties?
Hello GWX team,
reading a discussion about Uboat ranges
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=153021
I became curious and compared the range-values in the .sim with with the range-values from the GWX manual (which I divided through 1.85 to get the values in sm instead of km). Doing this, I found that the values differ:
Type IIA: GWX-Manual: 4400km = 2375sm. In .sim file: 2895sm
Type IID: GWX-Manual: 8500km = 4589sm. In .sim file: 5288sm
Type VIIB:GWX-Manual: 15000km = 8100sm. In .sim file: 9733sm
Type VIIC:GWX-Manual: 15000km = 8100sm. In .sim file: 9713sm
Type IXB: GWX-Manual: 20100km = 10850sm. In .sim file: 14500sm
Type IXC: GWX-Manual: 25500km = 13768sm. In .sim file: 18650sm
Type IXD2:GWX-Manual: 55000km = 29697sm. In .sim file: 46621sm (!!!)
Type XXI: GWX-Manual: 25800km = 13930sm. In .sim file: 13272sm
I'm not sure, if perhaps I made a mistake in my thoughts and calculations.
But if I'm right: Is there a chance for a fix?
And if not, I could make that job.
Greetings and thanks again for GWX,
h.sie

I am not sure what the problem is; Penny et al changed the ranges in GWX3.0 to reflect the real life ranges of the vessels. Perhaps Pablo didn't include these changes in the 3.0 manual.

As near as I can tell, the problem is that SH3 renders the world flat while it is a globe. The numbers were changed to reflect how far the particular vessel could travel on a load of fuel. The numbers in SH3/GWX3.0 are as realistic as possible, and are a compromise. See pages 50 and 51 in the GWX3.0 manual.
As far as the conversion of the Km in the .sim files; I am working on an answer. Since I don't know how to open the .sim files, I can't check your math or logic.
When I get a definitive answer, I'll get back to you.

Not content with your previous insults, you have decided to baselessly insult and accuse Neal also. Post reported.
Hi Irish,
you can use Silent3Ditor (S3D) to open the .sim files and check the range values.
In the GWX3-Manual one can read that the ranges from Stock SH3 have been enlarged by 25% up to 33% (depending on the ship type) in order to account for the problem, that the SH3 world is flat while the real world is a globe. The results, that means the increased values, are written into table 9 on page 51. I divided these values through 1.85 in order to get the values in miles (instead of kilometers) because I wanted to compare them with the values of the .sim files. And found out that they differ.....
Greetings,
h.sie
